We have used Bentz electric many times over the years. We had a panel upgrade and various smaller projects. They are consistently more competitive on pricing than larger firms. Mr. Bentz and his workmen always arrive on time and tidy up after the work is conpleted.

In addition to completing the original task satisfactorily, he also rewired our 3-way switch (that was messed up by our kitchen contractor) for a small amount of charge. I like his friendliness, and flexibility.

This is our second experience with John and we plan on using him for a third project soon. He came to our home twice for this job, for the initial estimate and for the job itself, and he was very punctual on both occasions. The work was done professionally and he patiently answered all of our questions about it. We've had no problems with the work in the month since it's been done.

We were very pleased with the speed of service and how John thoroughly addressed our concerns with the existing wiring. We have hired Bentz Electric again to install track lighting in our kitchen, install a new external fuse box, and replace an existing chandelier.
Description of Work: The previous owners of the home we moved into recently did a lot of amateur electrical work. While we had hired Bentz Electric to install new track lighting, John prioritized other tasks in the home to ensure we were safe and up to code. John assessed outdoor electrical work, fixed two external outlets, assessed our attic wiring and boxed loose writing in the attic and basement, and assessed and installed lighting in two closets in the master bedroom.

I used John's services in Brentwood, MD on a previous job and wanted to give a local small business owner the opportunity on a property I purchased in Baltimore since I will be purchasing multiple homes as a real estate investor. John called my number right back after I called but as soon as I said, "Hi John. This is a previous customer who used your services before and I wanted to find out if you support Baltimore for a whole home re-wiring..." at that point, the call hung up. Wow. I was really, really suprised at this level of unprofessionalism from a contractor. Especially, since this is a $5000-7000 job. Wow. Thank you from saving me from a bad experience.

I am going to have to have that work redone. I want to alert people about that eight hour, that full day special that he’s been running. This is the second time I’ve used him. I think I used him in 2015 and in 2015 he had helpers and he had a couple of young guys working for him and an electrician who actually did like the heavy duty exterior stuff. When he came this year he came by himself. If you look at my emails to him you’ll see where I described the work as I had two exterior motion detectors that simply had to be replaced. He did need to use a ladder and this guy is pretty overweight and he didn’t like working from the ladder. One of the motion detectors he put up, it does not, one of the bulbs doesn’t work at all. I got some high end motion detectors called Rab. He didn’t do the walk test. You know the walk test is so you can point the motion detectors and you test it to make sure it comes on when you wanted it to. I want them so that when I pull my car up in the evening you know after it gets dark they’ll come on. One of them he didn’t test at all and the other he told me there was no reason to do that with these new motion detectors, you just set them up and point them. Then one of them he couldn’t get off. I just wanted them switched out but there is a box that you connect them to that he said he couldn’t get the motion detector off of that box so he had to cut the wire. He went out and bought a new box but I have a masonry home so when you start moving things around you leave holes. He left a hole up high. I can’t reach it because I need a ladder. So he didn’t do the walk test. One of the bulbs doesn’t come on at all. So what good is that to me? The other thing I asked him to do, I have two outdoor electrical outlets that were pretty old so I simply wanted those replaced and if you check my email you will see, I sent him an email through my Angie’s List email just telling him that the quality of work and his attitude had changed tremendously since he was here before and I would not use him again. The kind of things he did, one of the boxes, I mean the wiring was already run. All he had to do was switch them out. One of them has a huge hole behind it. Now I don’t know if that hole was already there or if had started to chisel it out but either way, the way that he put the box up there is daylight behind it. That means that water, snow, everything will be falling right down on that wire and into the masonry and he didn’t even point it out to me. It’s one thing for him to have said, look I don’t do masonry repairs and you need to have this fixed but just to stick the box up and not say anything. I don’t want him to come back which is why I haven’t done the review. I called him before when this was done and I had been at work and I just didn’t have time so far to find another electrician. I paid him and see when you guys have us pay in advance for those specials we’re sort of stuck. He came at nine, he was done by two and part of that time he had to run to Home Depot to get an electrical box and to go back and get his ladder because he showed up and I told him he was going to need a ladder, he’d be doing exterior work and the reason it took so long was because was he tried to find a decent day for him to work when it wasn’t raining and it wasn’t too hot. We came up with the date. This was easy. A handyman could have done it. I didn’t really need an electrician to sort of replace things. A handyman might have even done a better job but because I used him before and him being a certified electrician, I thought okay I’ll get better quality work. The opposite was true. So he worked about maybe four hours. He came at nine and he was gone by two and an hour of time he was off the job so there was plenty of time for him to finish up and do it right. He just didn’t want to be bothered. So no I don’t want him to come back, I am not going to have a man at my house, I am not going to get into an argument with people at my home. And I am not asking him to come back to do work that was so easy. He just didn’t want to take the time to do it so there’s something wrong there. So I definitely wouldn’t use him. That special is not as good as it sounds. He lost his worker and physically he is not fit enough to do this work and actually he doesn’t like working out like this. It’s going to cost me a few hundred dollars to have someone come and re-do that work. Instead of making another hole in my masonry when he moved that motion detector he could have run new wire and put the box right back in the same place. But that was the easiest thing for him to do. So he leaves me with two holes in the masonry that I have got to plug up.
Description of Work: Replace two exterior motion detectors, replace two outdoor electrical outlets, replace a light fixture in the bathroom and check some wiring on the doorbell.

They did an outstanding job when on other company wanted to accept the job. Cost was very reasonable. Timing and deadlines were met. The company really pulled through when I needed them most. They were life savers.

He is very good. I think I did get him off of Angie's List, too. He's very good, comes when he says he's going to come, he's a little bit pricey, but then electricians are, what are you going to do about that. I think he's a little bit pricey, but I don't think he's any more pricey than anybody else. I think' he's very good, and I've been very satisfied with his services. I'd probably give them a B [overall], and that's not an A just because of price.
Description of Work: I've had him in 3 or 4 times to replace fixtures, mostly to replace fixtures and do a little bit of wiring repair.

We found Bentz Electric through Angie's List. We called the firm the next morning (Saturday), explaining the situation of half power. outage. They said they will be stopping at our residence. A rep did stop by and checked our circuit breaker. He said that I have a "phase down blown out" and Bentz were not responsible for that underground malfunction. Suggested that I call Pepco (our power supplier). What we were upset is that for a ten-minute consultation we were charged $175.00. When I mentioned Angie's, the rep gave me a ten-percent discount and reduced the amount to $157.50, which was paid with personal check. I would like to refer to Bentz's advertiement on page A16, April issue, that mentioned "FREE INSPECTION FOR ANY SERVICE CALL FOR ANGIE'S LIST MEMBERS." What's more, Bentz lost its opportunity to make an impression on its potential customers. I am requesting a return of the whole charge of $157.50.
Description of Work: While we were out of town, there was a power outage in our residence. Upon our return on Friday, April 14, we found that half of our house had power, the another half did not.

Pepco said they wouldn't reconnect my house to the power grid until my service entry cable, connecting the power meter to the top of my house, was repaired. I didn't understand, at this point, that the county I live in would then need to inspect it before Pepco would reconnect me, so I was looking for a company that could do the work fast so we could get our power back. Bentz looked okay and they came out quickly. They trimmed back my service entry cable and refastened it to my house. I then found out that the county had to inspect, and it failed inspection. So Bentz didn't know that the county had to inspect, and didn't know that the way they mounted the service entry cable would fail. I think they should have known this. This took two guys about two hours and cost me $850. Then to file the permit request for the county to inspect cost another $175. Bentz came back promptly after the failure to redo the install with a new cable that then passed the inspection. This was an additional $400. It took several days to have the reinspection done, and this was the winter, so we moved into a hotel while this was going on.
Description of Work: I had a tree come down on the side of my property, knocking out power to my house. This necessitated having repairs done to the cable connecting my outside power meter to the power lines from the utility pole.
