Bob continues to impress me with his knowledge and professionalism. I have used Bob many times over the years for a wide variety of electrical services. Each time has been a top quality experience. On the most recent visit he put in new wiring on a sun room that we had built. It seemed to me that it would be a difficult task because of limited access to some of the locations. He made it look easy with absolutely no complaining about what we asked him to do. He also installed new wiring for a transfer switch to connect a new generator. This went smoothly and he took considerable time with me to explain what was done and how to use the system. Overall, Bob is one of the best contractors of any kind whom we have ever worked with. He is reliable, responsible, and professional. He has an impeccable knowledge of code and sticks to it. He keeps us posted by phone if he is running late in arriving at our site. He cleans up after himself so that everything looks as good or better than it did before he did the work. I wish he was more than an electrician so that we could use him for all of our projects -- plumbing, construction, whatever. After a miserable experience with an irresponsible contractor who built us an out building, Bob is a breath of fresh air.

Very happy to have worked with Helms Electric! The owner (Bob) not only gave the quote but also performed the work. I had under cabinet lighting installed and he explained the process in detail so that I wouldn't be surprised. I appreciate that he was so thorough, which also showed in the quality of his work. He and his helper cleaned up afterwards and all in all it was a very pleasant contractor experience. He's definitely my go-to electrician from now on!

The work went extremely well. I had a garage, mudroom and office built in 1994 by a contractor. Recently I sold my home. Upon selling I discovered the original contractor had never had a rough-in inspection or final inspection performed. The original contractor had also never obtained the final occupancy permit. After calling and visiting the Harford county inspection office many times I called Helm's electric to resolve the problem. The owner Bob showed up promptly did a preliminary assessment and said he would talk to the county, obtain the proper permits and do any work required to bring the project into compliance. Before calling Helm's I had called 3 other electrical contractors with either no response or they were not interested/intimidated by the process. I then went to Angie's list and found Helms. I explained to the owner how I needed the work completed and inspected by the end of March because that was my settlement date. Helm's did everything needed, met with the inspector/county and the garage, office and mudroom passed the rough-in and final county inspection. I am very relieved and please with the work Helm's performed. Additionally, their price was very reasonable. I had 2 other prices and Helm's prices came in below the others, who eventually didn't show or didn't want to do the work. Great job and thanks!!

bob came to our houses(2 jobs)gave a quote,made a date to start the job and then cancelled,made another date and then cancelled again.Left us hanging for 3 weeks ,no e-mails,no phone call,nothing,I had to find another company FAST.THANKS A LOT ,BOB

Outstanding. Very professional and responsive. Very high quality and neat work and cleaned up after themselves. They stayed with me while I tested the generator and switches. I would trust Bob Helms for any of my future electrical needs.

I switched from an electric range to a propane range. This required the tank, plumbing and the plumbing needed to be "bonded" to the electrical panel. I called Helms and was happy to connect directly to the owner of the company. He had a job the next day, but set up a later time to come by for the estimate. I quickly got a price to do the bonding of the plumbing and installing an outlet to hook up the range. He showed up on time and made quick work of the install. I'm very happy with his service and will contact him again when I need other electrical work done.

The vendor consistently answered phone/returned call in acceptable timeframe. He showed up when expected to do the quote and also to perform work. Work was performed within the timeframe he quoted, he did quality work and was very professional. The main point here is that I cannot understand why so many service professionals (electricians, plumbers, etc) cannot seem to return calls, show up when promised and in general communicate with their potential customers. Bob Helms of Helms Electric gets and A+ on all those categories. If you are looking for a reliable, professional electrician, please contact this company first and you will not be disappointed.

I called Bob Helms after looking up electricians on Angie's List. I'd had two other electricians come out to see about finishing a job that our previous electrician could not finish. The others did not offer any solutions and were generally unresponsive. Bob answered his phone and we chatted briefly about the problem. He arranged to call back later that day (and he did at the time he said he would). He came out the next day, looked at the problem, offered a reasonable solution and told me he'd call with an estimate later that day--he did just that and we arranged that he'd come out later that week. He arrived with his helper right on time and did the work we agreed upon--at the price we agreed. He and his helper were polite and professional, and tidied up when they were finished. Not only that, but they cheerfully put up not only with my three dogs, but with a neighbor's dog who we were watching that day. Not many people would be so accommodating with 4 inquisitive dogs mobbing them every time they walked in/out of the house. Bob seemed genuinely sorry that I'd been trying to get this issue cleared up for the past 4 years and I know he went out of his way to make it right for me. I recommend Helms Electric wholeheartedly.

Robert was punctual, polite, professional, and knew what he was doing. I won't hesitate to use him again when the need arises.

I actually called somebody else who was 24 hours seven days a week. He didn’t get back to me until three days later. Mr. Helms got right back to me within an hour and a half. We have had him before. He has done a very good job. Our experience with them was excellent. I had actually just looked him up in the phonebook, and got a price from him on what it would cost to install a ceiling fan. His was a reasonable price, so I got him to do it.

Highly professional, focused and a pleasure to have in the home. Got right to work, cleaned up area, and left old parts in a neat pile. What I appreciated most was that he sifted through my talk and heard my concern about water maybe penetrating behind the siding if the new fixtures were mounted in the same way as the old fixtures. (There is staining inside the home, further down on the wall, but I am unsure if staining stems from the light fixture or from the nearby sliding door.) He proposed a solution that I opted for because it made me feel comfortable.

We were selling our house and I called Bob to address a couple issues that the home inspector noted. He came in and completed the job quickly and without any issue. The total cost ended up being less than what I expected. Bob was very polite and professional - someone I would defintely call again for my electrical needs.

We finished off our basement this Spring. We had Mr. Helms come out to perform the wiring for the receptibles, and to install recessed lights. Everything went great. Mr Helms was very responsive, returned calls promptly and was easy to work with. Since the recessed lights were wired prior to the drop ceiling installation, Mr Helms accounted for the fact that the lights could be positioned in various spots within the ceiling grid. This was noted by our contractor as a great help and a sign that Mr Helms was thinking ahead. We are very happy with the result and would hire again.

We had one outdoor and several indoor lights that weren't working. Helms came out the day after we called them, right on time. They repaired or replaced fixtures as needed, and made recommendations for upgrading to more efficient, cost-effective equipment. Very polite and courteous. Will have them back to install more outside lighting in a couple months.

Mr. Helms and his employee arrived on time, quickly did the work that I requested, and left both areas clean. Both men were very friendly and professional. I would definitely call Helms again.

Mr. Helms arrived with his assistant within his estimated arrival time, assessed the problem and replaced the circuit breaker box. Good, no hassle service.

I called Helms electric based on reviews here on Angie's List. Bob, the owner, took the call. I made an appointment for an estimate. I discussed with him the work I wanted done. Bob made suggestions on how to install the outlets I wanted that resulted in a more efficient installation. He scheduled the work day within two weeks of me accepting the estimate. He did not require a deposit to begin the work. Bob and his helper showed up 15 minutes early on the scheduled day. They promptly went to work, taking a mid morning break for a few minutes and a lunch break at noon. They cleaned up after themselves, prior to the walk thru to check out the completed work. The completed job was neat and professionally installed. Both Bob and his helper were friendly and curteous. He laid down a drop cloth inside the garage door to limit the amount of dirt tracked in. The job was completed by mid afternoon. He will be returning to complete an unfinished task, one not due to his fault, but to a backordered transfer switch. I talked with his helper who is working under Bob towards a Master Electrician license. He commented how he was learning a lot from Bob and that Bob liked to be personally involved each job. This is something I like, because I have often gotten estimates and it turned out that the person doing the estimate was not the person doing the work. Will definitely be using him in the future.
