Everything went very smoothly because he took the trouble to come and look at the work beforehand instead of just providing a guess over the phone.

As a side note we had previously called Helms for help with a ceiling fan not working right. They came out and told us how to fix it, no charge. Then called back to make sure it worked. Really impressive service!
Description of Work: Line from electric company going into house was frayed. We needed new lines, permits, Harford County had to approve, BGE had to do follow up after everything else was done.

 + 0 moreI could not have asked for better service. Bob was such a nice guy. Explained what was wrong and proceeded to repair within minutes. Bob had to find the breaker which controls the switch as I could not. Bob easily found it. He also replaced a light fixture that was not part of the original call. I have his card handy and will certainly call if any electrical work is needed.

It was a pleasant surprise to find a craftsman who not only was proficient in what he did but was proactive in meeting our needs, even some needs we were unaware of until Bob started making suggestions.(see above) He and Wes did an A+ job.They arrived on time fully prepared to do their work. They were efficient in what they did and they did not waste time standing around chatting.They left our house clean and tidy. We appreciate the fine job they did.
Description of Work: Bob and his helper Wes were hired to install a new ceiling fan. When we were talking about this job Bob suggested we install a longer rod on our new fan. He cared enough about doing the right thing that he made this suggestion and we are glad we did. It looks and operates a lot better than the one they took down,. Bob and West installed under counter lights, again followed his suggestion as what to install and again, we are glad we did. They installed a cable box in the room where we are going to put our TV. He spotted a code violation regarding a ground wire to our gas supply line outside and repaired it. We were talking about how inconvenient it was to turn off the stairway light from the second floor, as it was down the hall by the bathroom. Bob suggested he install another light switch at the top of the stair case. We followed his advice and, again, are glad we did. Bob did not just come to our new house and take our order, he was proactive in his craft and this showed in his work and in his suggestions. They cleaned up after they were finished and left our house clean and better looking. We will recommend him to anyone who needs electrical service.

 + -1 moreI have nothing but the highest praise. I came home to find the electricity in my house on the fritz. Among other things, neither the heat nor the hot water were working. Mr. Helms made a special trip after hours, arrived promptly, and diagnosed the problem. I was able to work with BGE to resolve the problem in time to get a good night's sleep.

 + -1 moreI called first thing on a Monday morning hoping for a same day appointment. Helms was nice enough to offer me a 7pm same day appointment. He knew my daughter had no power in her room and that I was worried about what the electrical issues were. He actually showed up 45 minutes early, which was great, and after 5 minutes of trouble shooting, he knew the issue was a bad recepltacle in a room other than the room I was having no power in. Since he was there I mentioned another outlet that I knew was bad and he also replaced that one. Great Service, very professional, and knowledgeable. We will use Helm's again with no hesitation!

Him and his apprentice were able to quickly review the scope of work and explain plan to install "free floating" electrical outlet for a gas fireplace insert. The project was a little bit technically challenging because he had to drill through the fireplace brick wall, and route wire through basement ceiling. Only took about an hour and they cleaned up after the project.

I called them first thing this morning with the hope that they would be able to come to my home in the next few days to inspect and fix a problem with my electrical panel. Bob Helms called me back within 15 minutes of my leaving a message and he was able to fit me in and was at my home within about 2 hours. I am very impressed with this company and would definitely use them again and will recommend them to others. They are very prompt, good communicators, nice, and professional, and did a great job!  + 1 moreBob and Wes arrived promptly (even a bit early) and hit the ground running from the moment they entered the house. They worked non-stop on repairing a laundry list of items from a housing inspection on an REO property that I purchased. It was an extrememly hot day, the house does not have working AC and they needed to be in the attic space for some repairs (which I'm sure exceeded 100 degrees that day). They got all the items on the list done in 3 hrs. Unfortunately for us, many of the "updated" items (ceiling fans, light fixtures) that were done by the property management company of the bank were done improperly and will need to be fixed, but Bob explained that these could be done over time. They were incredibly professional and provided the most economical option for some of the repairs that needed to be done and identified some items that we could take care of ourselves. I will definitely use them again and would strongly recommend to others.

 + -1 moreThe GFI* box in the basement's mechanical room was used by the plumber and when he was finished, a wire in the box was not connected. Outlets as well as my lawn post light did not function. However, thanks to Bob' professionalism and patience, he identified the problem and fixed it. His fee was very reasonable; he also took the time to speak with the plumber, after I contacted him, to explain the error that was made. He is my go-to guy whenever I did a super electrician.
Description of Work: Bob, a sleuth comparable to Sherlock Holmes, tracked down an error by the plumber who installed my new gas water heater.

I was remodeling a bathroom and during demolition I came across some wiring issues I was not comfortable dealing with. I called Helms, realizing I would might have to wait a while to get service because of the holidays. To my surprise they said they could be here in a few hours. They showed up as promised and did the job. Not only that, they offered some lighting design suggestions and offered that I could save money doing a few things on my own. They will get any future electrical work I need.

 + -1 moreThe circuit went dead on 12/21. I called BGE Home and had them send over someone to look at the problem. He spent nearly 2 hours hunting for the problem with no result other than to charge me for his time. He said that he would come back with help but not until January 6th. Not willing to wait that long, I started hunting for a local electrician and found Helms Electric. They were rating high on Angie's List, so I thought I would give them a try. I called the day after Christmas and Bob got back to me that afternoon. He and his assistant came out on the 30th and within 15 minutes found the problem. The difference was that they started from the beginning of the circuit and worked forward until they found the problem while the guy from BGE Home went to the end and worked backward. What is came down to is that Bob and his assistant were at my home for less than an hour and found and corrected the issue. The work was done quickly and professionally. I have a few more electrical projects coming up this year. Helms Electric will definitely asked to do that work. Thanks Bob!!

 + 2 moreBob was very flexible finding a time to come out and look the job over that worked for both of us. He was very professional and presented different options to accomplish what we wanted done. We decided to go with him and he was able to schedule the work the next week. Bob and Justin showed up right on time and went straight to work. They were professional and curteous and answered any questions we had throughout the day. We also added several small things that we hadn't thought about when meeting with him before the day of the work and they were super flexible in accomodating the extra requests. The workmanship was excellent and they explained everything they were doing so I could inspect the work prior to them leaving. I couldn't have been happier with the work and won't hesitated to utilize Helms Electric for any work I need done in the future.
Description of Work: Installed 24 Circuit 100 amp subpanel, installed under cabinet lighting in kitchen, installed exterior security light, replaced exterior outlet that wasn't working, ran new service for microwave, replaced ceiling fan, repaired 3-way switch in kitchen that was improperly installed.

He was very professional when he came to the appointment and gave us suggestions on how to accomplish what we were trying to achieve. He had the experience and know-how to bring ideas to the table that we hadn't even thought of, or even knew were available. Bob came through with an estimate very quickly. Bob and Justin came on time and tackled all the work in a professional manner. Everything was completed as promised and done very neatly and successfully. I am so happy with my new kitchen lighting.... the kitchen is properly lit for the first time in its 22 years! I would highly recommend Helms Electric.
