Even though the service was not performed the day I called, the very next day they came and fixed the problem The technician was very thorough and continued by the procedure even ~20 feet after the problem was fixed. In the next days another technician came to take a video camera inspection of the sewer line confirming that there is no other problem (like infiltrating roots). The cost of the camera procedure was included in the price paid.

The technician was punctual and professional. He installed two toilets for me and did so in a timely fashion with no mess or clean up from me. He was careful not disrupt anything in my home and I thought it was very insightful to have surgical foot covers for his shoes. He removed the old units and did so by placing them in large trash bags which prevented leakage onto the floor. I was pleased with the over all service.

I noticed a growing dark spot on the bathroom floor tile and contacted several contractors/plumbers for an estimate. Most wanted to tear up the tile floor because the source of the leak was not obvious; needless to say, that would have been expensive. James from Len the Plumber quickly realized it was coming from the toilet even though there were no indications that the toilet was the culprit (the dark spot was about 6" from both the toilet and tub). It turned out the flange was busted. I have an older house so everything is more complicated than it would be in a modern house, but he managed to get everything fixed quickly and showed me each step of the process. He flushed the toilet probably 20 times to ensure that he had fixed the source of the leak, but also showed me the pipes from below (fortunately they're accessible from our furnace/hot water heater closet) so that I could keep an eye on it for my own peace of mind. James also replaced the broken valve stem on one of my outdoor spigots and fixed the pipes leading to the stem bottom. He even offered to run to Home Depot to look for a replacement that would be less expensive than what he had available on his truck. I actually preferred to use his more expensive spigot because it was frost-proof and standard size (the old one was a very unusual size, which caused problems at the point where it joined the pipes). For both jobs, James showed me the price upfront and provided a discount since he was doing multiple jobs. Plumbing work is always more expensive than I think it should be, but at least with Len the Plumber there are no surprises (and they charge slightly less than other plumbers I've used). This was my second time using Len the Plumber. I've been impressed by their promptness, friendliness, and cleanliness. They always wear booties in the house and they clean up after themselves extremely well. James even vacuumed the floor of my hot water heater closet even though all he did there was stand and point to pipes.

4/28/14 - UPDATE - George DeGrasse, Service Manager did contact me and it was in a timely manner. He was polite and during our conversation he informed me that their policy is to reduce the cost of additional work by $100. This was never communicated to me by Tom the technician. George was concerned about what happened and refunded me $144. That was nice of him, but I still feel that $404.58 is too much to pay for what service I received that day and for the uncomfortable position I was put in my the technician. Bathtub faucet started leaking late last night. Out of the companies I called this morning Len the Plumber was the only one that I got to commit to coming out today. I clearly explained that my toilet wouldn't fill after flushing and the tub faucet had a steady stream after I turned it off. These appeared to me simple plumbing issues but because of the water running I was concerned about the impact on the environment and what my next water bill would be. I was told when I called it would be $49 to show up at the door. There was no hourly charge but flat rates for each job. The $49 would be credited towards the work done if done that day. I did not identify the brand of facuet (I have American Standard) and in hindsight after my encounter with Tom, I think it's a good practice to get into. Very polite and professional. Tom Sauvage looked at the toilet and began discussing rebuilding the tank. He pointed out the two washers on the bottom of the tank and told me that they detereriorate and we could get the whole thing done for $314 or just replace the flapper and fillvalve for $214. I looked at the washers and didn't see any evidence of impending doom so I told him just the $214 job. When he was wrapping up the job he mentioned that the washers in the tank were ok. He moved to the tub. He told me it would be $191 to "identify repair parts for tub valve" and then $191 to repair it + parts. I asked him if he would mind showing me how to remove the areator ring from the bathroom sink faucet so we could clean it. He said it would require him taking toilet paper or a rag and wrapping it around the ring then using a wrench/plyers to twist it. He said it might mark it up and so he gets the customer's approval first. I told him thanks but to forget it because if that was all that had to be done, I'd try it later and he could focus on the toilet and tub. Tom said he didn't carry American Standard parts on his truck and they would have to be ordered then he would have to return to put it in. He mentioned replacing the faucet for approximately $700. I showed him the access panel to the bathtub plumbing and he said the wall would have to be cut about a foot higher to gain access. I asked if there would be any welding involved and it was unclear to me if there would be. But what was clear to me was that I wasn't willing to invest in wall work and new parts + labor at this time. He asked me if I had the paperwork that went with the tub faucet so it could help identify the part. I asked if the part number was on the one he removed and he said no. I happened to know there is a plumbing parts store a couple miles away which he recalled and my daughter offered to go pick up any parts so the job could be finished today. I agreed it was a good idea to replace the cylinders in both hot, cold and the water distribution handle. At one point Tom called to me and showed me that he had gotten the water to stop leaking without replacing the parts. I told him that even though he did, since I couldn't get it to stop it was best to move forward and get the parts replaced. I didn't want it to begin leaking after he left and then I would have to start all over again. He was able to get the hot water handle off, but the screw to the cold water was damaged he said. He said he could drill to get it out but that might damage something else. He also said he couldn't get a part off the water distribution handle without using a wrench (I was surprised that would be an issue) and that it might damage something. I thought he would have at least tried to grease it to get it off. The exact same washer/nut looking piece came off the hot water handle without a problem. I decided each job which I thought was a small job was getting too complicated and out of control so I asked Tom to simply fix the hot water handle which needed the porceline cartridge inside it replaced because he said it was not repairable and to fix the toilet for which he had the part on the truck already. Tom went and got the cartidge from the plumbing store and replaced it. He then showed me the valve on my water meter had a cracked washer/nut or something and he wasn't sure how long the existing packing would last. I told him it was on my radar but with the cost of having these two jobs done being so high, I was using up my allotted budget for now. He said but if it breaks, you will have to get it fixed. I told him I know. He gave me an estimate of $465 to repair it. That was for 2 hrs. Anything over that was $81per half hour which I thought was strange since I was told by the dispatcher that they didn't have hourly rates only job rates. And I'm not sure if that included parts. He told me the values looked to him as originals to the house (built in 1950) and "they" don't make parts for them any longer. After taking a longer look at the meter and valves when we finished up, I saw a purple plastic ring around one of the tubes and then recalled that WSSC had replaced it when they upgraded their meter system. When Tom finished, he did tell me the hot water handle was tight but would relax after using it for a while. I showed him where the water distribution handle was leaking when it was turned on and he said he saw it but because he couldn't get that piece off he couldn't fix it. Tom gave me $81 off the cost because he wasn't going to charge me for going to get the part. I asked him if he had removed any of the existing tape on the meter valves because I didn't want that to blow up and he said he only touched it to turn it off and on. I understand that when you are dealing with an older home, there are issues that come up. Also, I have been considering replacing the facuets and so when it came up, I did want to know more about doing it. But it was clear to me that Tom's cost to simply replace the part in the toilet and a cartridge in the hot water handle was about 1/2 what it cost me to replace a water heater and that Tom seemed to be having so many problems with even the basic tasks, that allowing him to do anything more than what I did was asking for expensive trouble. The reason I said I would use them again, is because there is no option of MIGHT use them again. I don't know that Tom's skill set is typical of all the technicians with that company. Based on what I observed, I hope not. Also, I probably would have done better sourcing these small jobs out to an Handy Man than to seek out a plumber. I was concerned about the water running for so long and that I had to take off work to be here. In retrospect it may have been less expensive to me not the environment to have let the water run for a couple more days until I could arrange for someone else to come out plus take additional time off work rather than to have gotten this done by Len the Plumber. Possibly for a larger job Len the Plumber may be an option.

I had a new pedestal sink installed in my bathroom. About a year later, my cleaning lady noticed that it was leaking from the back. It was the seal around the drain. It was like the week before Thanksgiving and I was having house guests. The guy came from Len the Plumber. He told me that it was going to cost $475 for them to fix it, which is almost twice what I paid for the sink. I told him that wasn't going to happen. He was a little surprised but he left. One of my houseguests said they could fix it. He went to the store and spent $20, $10 of which was for the wrench he needed, and he fixed. I will never call Len The Plumber again. They thought they have a captive audience because it was close to the holiday. I don't know their motives. All I know is that they quoted me a ridiculous price for a small repair. I think that it's a collection of subcontractors. It might be that not everybody would have that experience because it would be a different subcontractor. If I heard someone was going to call Len The Plumber, I would tell them not to do it. My houseguest did it in like ten minutes. They were way overcharging. I paid them $50 to tell them to go away. They were very responsive. They came the same day that I called them. The guy was clearly not telling the truth or didn't understand the job.

He was great! They were right on time, I was satisfied with the work and he worked on 2 of my bathrooms. If I need a plumber again, I will call him. Everything was fine, even the price was right. If it wasn't right, I wouldn't recommend him. So far the quality is good. They flush and they do what they are supposed to do. They were right there when they should have been and they were polite. He was a mature man and he did the job like he's been doing it all his life.

Came back a few weeks later when we asked about problems related to water pressure and sediment and also poor quality from our 1 year old dishwasher. The technician spent about an hour trouble shooting. The sediment he found to be coming from the water conditioner which was clogging our faucets. This was happening because we were turning off the water each weekend, but not turning off the water conditioner. This was causing the sediment to backup, which in turn affected the water pressure. The dishwasher was not found to have a collection of sediment and he suggested calling the manufacturer for optimal efficiency. (we did this later and simply switched the type of dishwashing detergent). Len the plumber did not charge anything over the initial service fee.

Late on a Sunday afternoon, we discovered that the laundry sink wasn't draining and water was also backing up in kitchen sink upstairs. A friend recommended Len the Plumber (the plumber we normally use does not have 24 hr. emergency service). They were not able to fit us in that day, but scheduled us for 9:00 the following day. The plumber arrived on time, was professional and friendly. He determined the problem and snaked the drain, which resolved the issue. Before he started the work, he explained the pricing for the service, which I accepted but thought was a bit high; I also had a coupon, which reduced the price $10. He also gave me estimates for two other services. He did a good job cleaning up afterwards - always appreciated. Overall, we are happy with the work performed.

$282 for 45 minutes on the jobsite is a pretty good hourly rate ($376/hour). They claim that they don't charge by the hour...but by the job.....but won't give you an estimate on the phone. Hire pressure sales tactics. He strongly suggested letting him provide an inferior disposal (my conclusion) at an all in price of only $623. Went on to say that if we took his disposal we'd get a 4 year warranty, otherwise 30 day. (The disposal we furnished has a 4-year warranty) I'd recommend them to anyone that has too much money and doesn't care what things cost. I'd rather get ripped off by every other plumber....before I'd call them again.

Our regular plumber was out of town for the holidays and I did not want to be without a master shower for the long weekend so I thought I would try Len the Plumber. I went to their website and completed the online form. They called back within an hour and said someone would be out to the house later that day. A gentleman arrived within the window and was polite and friendly. He stopped at the door at put on shoe cover booties before coming in the house. I showed him the shower and he just took pictures of the dis functional temperature gauge (my husband took it apart earlier thinking he could fix the problem himself). He said he would send to someone back at the office and they would give him a price for the part shortly. He did no further inspection of the shower. He did a similar assessment of the basement leak. He explained in great detail what he said needed to be done. I asked him to write up a ticket with the pricing for both fixes with enough detail so my husband would know what he was proposing since he was not at home at the time. He did this and listed the cost for each which totaled almost $1,000. I was shocked at the expense, but could not effectively gauge the reasonableness of this estimate. I paid him the $50 fee to come out. After seeing the cost, we decided to wait for our regular plumber for a second opinion. Our regular plumber said we did not need a new part for the shower and that the current gauge just needed to be cleaned which he did and it worked. He also fixed leak in basement - charge for both $225!!!! I will never call Len the Plumber again unless I am in desperate need of a quick fix, regardless of the price.

We had sewer backup on a Sunday morning. Regular plumber did not respond to phone call. In mid morning, called Len the Plumber who promised to come in late afternoon. Plumber (Vik) arrived around 4:00 PM, removed the toilet, and attempted to snake the sewer lines. Unfortunately, due to the poor design of plumbing systems in Levitt homes, the plumber was unable to complete the task. The charge was quite reasonable including for removing the toilet and snaking the lines, including a sizable discount on the cleaning services and did not include any premium charges for Sunday services . He set up an appointment for the following day to make another attempt. Late Monday afternoon, he arrived for a second attempt, trying to access the sewer lines through another toilet. After working for over an hour, he concluded that he was unable to access the sewer lines through the toilets. The only other option was to cut holes in the walls in an attempt to locate the plumbing stack. On this occasion, he did not charge any additional fee, because he failed to clear the drain. Ultimately, I decided to contact another sewer cleaning service that was very familiar with the houses in my neighborhood. While the second plumber was successful in clearing the sewer, his fees were twice that of Len the Plumber. While the plumber from Len the Plumber was not successful, the failure was due to the absence of a plumbing design standard in my home. If the plumbing had been more in line with standard practices, I have no doubt that Len the plumber would have been successful and at significant lower costs than I had to pay

Overall, he fixed everything well, though he didn't suggest to nor fix the broken stopper in the sink, so that is still broken $500 later. It was almost $200 just to snake one of the drains. That seems exorbitant to me. He performed the work quickly, which was nice, but again I feel that it cost a lot for a little work/quick job. He didn't wear protective coverings on his boots, so he tracked mud on my carpet. He was responsive and cleaned the mud very well. Lastly, he threw a clorox wipe into the toilet and clogged it. He was already gone when I discovered that, but I am sure he would have fixed it if he were here. I just think it's silly that - of all people - a plumber would throw trash in a toilet. He was very helpful about advising us how to maintain our plumbing and deal with clogs without having to use a plumber, which I really appreciated. He was very nice and very responsive, but due to price, mud, and toilet, I will not use Len the Plumber again.
Description of Work: Fixed two master bath sinks. One rusty pipe, one hair clog.
