Description of Work: Mr.Mulcaire did some carpentry work and repairs to our water damaged basement. The problems, I believe, are with his crew. The work done by Mr. Mulcaire is satisfactory. The work done by the crew is terrible. While doing the drywall repairs, they did not cover our belongings. Drywall dust gets everywhere and is now covering everything in the rooms in which they worked; our Christmas decorations, sleeping bags, pillows, furniture, everything. We went down and put tarps up to block one part of a room and covered the upholstered furniture that already had a layer of dust on them. Drywall mud was flung everywhere and far from where the work was done, then not cleaned up until I complained. We still spent an entire day scraping the floor to get it level enough before installing the new flooring. The paint job was awful. They did put a second coat on the walls (insurance only allowed for one coat-unbelievable). There are multiple places where the mudding is uneven or left holes and marks that should have been smoothed before painting. We asked Mr. Mulcaire to do some extra work to be paid for separately from the insurance claim. The work was done and paid for. I have to say all in all we were disappointed after reading all the stellar reviews by other people. He did price fairly and we got a couple things done that should have been done a long time ago. He did a few additional repairs and said he did not charge for the work. I strongly suspect the painting was done without cleaning the walls first. With the amount of drywall dust everywhere there must be dust under the new paint. Everything about painting says to clean the walls first. I don't know what will happen to the paint now or in the future. I know the rooms have to be repainted after patching all the drywall goofs. They did not use tape prior to painting. There is white trim paint on the walls and wall paint on the trim. They painted my towel racks in the bathroom and the drop ceiling frames. There is also light paint and drywall mud on my dark green carpeting in several places! I have so much cleaning to do it is very discouraging.

Contractor came out and told us he would provide an estimate later that day. I tried to follow up about the estimate, he did not respond. When I mentioned that I would post this on Angie's List, he responded that circumstances change and he forgot about our job.

My mother shipped to me three pieces of family furniture from Europe: a chest, a desk and a secretary desk - all in perfect condition. Unfortunately, the shipper did a horrible job packing the furniture and all three pieces arrived damaged. Two of them severely damaged - I literally had pieces of wood falling from them. These pieces of furniture are over 50 years old, and the third one is 40 years old. I was devastated beyond tears, because I grew up with this furniture, and that was the main reason I wanted it shipped to my home in the US. I was extremely fortunate to hire Mr. Billy Mulcaire of KingCaire Construction to repair my beloved furniture. Mr. Mulcaire repaired all three pieces so that I cannot even tell that they were damaged, let alone where they were damaged. When I saw my repaired furniture, I literally cried out of happiness! And, here is another amazing thing Mr. Mulcaire did. The top of the desk had been painted to another color at some point over the years. Mr. Mulcaire brought it back to its original color. Being print journalists, my parents used the desk when writing at home, and I still vividly remember its original color from my childhood. I was speechless to see the desk back in its original color after all these years! Now I know whom to call if I need any work done on my furniture in the future!

Billy Mulcaire did a superb job of getting the design done and producing a detailed design and contract proposal so we could make an informed decision. He properly accounted for several change orders and was always easy to reach and responsive to concerns throughout the job. The task was completed on time and on budget. Billy did his best to minimize the disruption that this major project caused and was meticulous in ensuring a clean work area after finishing work for the day. Billy and his team were great from beginning to end and we would be happy to use them again.

Billy came out, we talked about my ideas. He had some better alternatives. The quote was by far the best I received and he was able to start in a couple of days. They had to finish the deconstruction that I had almost finished, down to bare basement walls and ceiling rafters. They installed a new drywall ceiling, blocked in around the exposed ductwork and repositioned the recessed lighting. Built 4 new walls with doors where I wanted them with new outlets. The doors were a little tricky due to the low ceiling and duct work. While that was going on, a new bathroom was being built. The old toilet and sink were reused and a shower was installed. Nice tile, not the pre-fabed one. When it came time to pick out tile for the bathroom, whats a single, color blind guy like me know. Well it just so happened a women at KingCaire Construction was delivering pay checks and Billy volunteered her services to pick out tile for me. We decided on 'earth' tones. She and Billy went off to Home Depot (I think) and came back with nice color co-ordinated tile. Midway through the project I decided I wanted to redo the steps leading down to the basement. No problem for these guys, a little extra money for material and work and done. About a week after the project was done, I discovered a problem with one of the outlets. Bill and his son came out, fixed it up no fuss. It was fun working with this company

Interactions with Billy were great. He came to my house and we discussed the various options on the best way to replace my handrails and ballusters. I only got as far as receiving the stimate when I had to put the project on hold. I will call Billy again when I can have this project done.

KingCaire will be the first call we make when we consider our next remodeling project. Our experience with them was excellent, particularly in four areas: their service was affordable, they completed the work in a timely fashion, their communication was clear and frequent, and the quality of their work was impeccable. They went above and beyond in a few ways too. Affordable: KingCaire was the lowest bid among the four we received, and the bid was fixed-price. We were prepared for overruns (based on conventional wisdom of home renovation), but Billy (the owner) told us that he offered a fixed-price contract. He did warn us that he used a budget for certain costs which might increase depending on our preference. For example, the bid included a budget for tiles and lighting fixtures. But we stayed within our budget, and did not face any overruns. Timeliness: the work was completed on time. The contract allowed for four weeks, and they finished at the end of the four weeks. They came back for one additional day at our request to follow-up with us on our punch list. Communication: their communication was clear and frequent. Billy was available by phone and email to answer all of our questions, both before we signed the contract and during the project. He responded to phone calls and emails before the day ended, and helped us evaluate options and answer our questions. His son (whose name is also Billy) was onsite every morning to answer our questions as well. Quality/craftsmanship: we were very impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of their work. Our remodel was a complete overhaul of our basement. In terms of the quality, we were very impressed that they used green-board (a water-resistant drywall) to mitigate moisture issues with our basement. They installed access panels in a few places to make pipes and other infrastructure easy to get to. In terms of the craftsmanship, we are very pleased with the look of everything. They also went above and beyond for us in one way that?s worth highlighting. We had a plumbing issue the day after we went over our punch list (thinking everything was completed). I?m certain the issue was purely coincidental (it?s like rain on your wedding day, or a plumbing problem in your newly remodeled basement). We called them in a panic at 9:30 at night, and they were back at our house at 7:30 the next morning. They fixed the problem, and we?ve been happy ever since. We were extremely pleased with their work. We would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: KingCaire Construction remodeled our basement. In layman's terms, this meant removing the old finished basement (we think the previous owners finished it themselves in the late 70s - think wood paneling. After that, they started from scratch and we ended up with a new floor plan and finished basement. Specifically, they performed the following: demo'ing the old basement, installing an interior french drain and sump pump, re-pouring the floor, electrical work, installing a full shower including plumbing work, framing, and painting the new walls.

Provided detailed project plans including 7 page project specifications and 2 architect drawings with all items marked and clear. Looking to gauge interest and get estimate. They may do good work, but I'll never know. Their business skills seem lacking as they took a few days to get back to me and then insulted me over the phone by calling me "impatient" because I had forwarded them all of the project information and was looking for a simple call back. They need to work on their organizational and administrative side, because it is obviously lacking. They also need to work on their phone skills and not insult prospective clients.

I personally respond to all inquiries and work in the field at the same time, this helps to keep our overheads down but may slow our response time when we are extra busy. Excellent job from beginning to end. We have a home built in 1942, plaster walls, and small closets. The closet where work was done had a single door on it, but 'wings' that opened up inside. It was difficult to reach anything inside the two sides of the closet making it not particularly functional. Billy Sr. came out and did an estimate of $1400 installed and including the door (solid wood Jell Wend). The work was performed by Billy Jr. and another gentleman. They started at about 8:15 a.m. and were done at about 5:15. They stopped only for an hour (for lunch and to pick up the exact amount of hardwood floor needed to patch the hole made once the walls were taken down}. Given the year of the home, the molding around the door was no longer available and would have been quite expensive to have milled. No worries . . . they simply used the molding from the inside of the original closet and when installing, put the new molding on the inside. Billy Sr. came with the guys in the a.m. to start them off. He gave a few instructions like telling them to be sure to be very careful when they pulled out the old molding so that it could be reused. They were certainly professionals and excellent craftsmen. The new closet doors look terrific . . . as if they came with the original house. Now that the opening was wider and the full closet was more accessible, I was then able to have an Elfa closet system installed. I'm extremely happy with the work done by Kingcaire Construction. They were terrific and I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Widened a closet door, installed new double doors, patched floor, re-trimmed new door opening.

From start to finish KingCaire Construction was exceptionally professional, the work was perfect and the price was very reasonable. I contacted them to remodel our staircase, and to build a pony wall and closet. Mr. Billy King, the owner, met with me personally to discuss the project and provided a quote within just a few days. The work was scheduled to take place over three days. I asked him to customize the staircase to match the image of one that I found online. My top priority was to make sure that the final product was high quality and that it blended into the existing house seamlessly. The crew arrived on time and finished on time. Each and every worker was very professional and courteous. More importantly, they did an EXCELLENT job. I'm pretty picky, but they really managed to build exactly what I had asked for and the result is beautiful. The staircase required custom carpentry and they nailed it. The pony wall and closet look like they were part of the original house - the molding, trim, paint, everything match perfectly. I understand from speaking with Mr. King that he had several years of professional carpentry training and it really shows in the final work. And they even cleaned up thorougly, what great service. I really can't say enough good things about Mr. King and his company. My husband loves their work so much that he wants them to remodel our kitchen!

Great! See above.
Description of Work: I wanted to have a carport built next to, and somewhat in front of, my home. Kingcaire came out and met with me to do a quick measurement and sketch; he followed up by going to the Planning Dept to see if my carport would be permissable. Unfortunately, the county would not approve the plan. He called me right away and let me know. I greatly appreciated that he took the time to check for permits before spending any of his time - or mine - detailing and estimating. Of course going to the Planning Dept was also on his dime. He was personable, professional, and gave excellent service. I hope to use this company in the future.
KingCaire worked with me every step of the way from dealing with the architect to deaingl with my time limitations and budget. They were always there on time and did what they said they were going to do. The quality of the workmanship was far superior to what seems to be the norm these days. I am now trying to figure out what to do for my next big project, and will definitely be bringing these guys back to do the work!
Description of Work: This crowd was great! Billy and son, Billy Jr., did a superb job overall. To begin with, they put an upstairs addition on my house which involved an additional bedroom and master bathroom including wood floors, outside brickwork, siding and roofing. It turned out wonderfully! I was so happy with the result that I immediately decided to renovate and expand my kitchen. Billy worked closely with me as I worked out the details with my architect and budget. We collaborated every step of the way. They converted my existing kitchen and garage into a luxurious modern kitchen with custom cabinets, bumped out a large bay window, as well as adding a brand new bathroom, and office space. I couldn't be happier with the quality and professionalism of KingCaire!

They gutted the entire house, managed all the subcontractors, performed all the work which beautiful craftsmanship. Even better, they stayed within budget and on schedule. The custom built oak cabinets in the kitchen and the oak flooring throughout the house are beautiful. The tilling job in both bathrooms are gorgeous as well. Would hire them again any day.

The overall experience went great. Billy took my drawings and plans for a new kitchen and gave me a fair estimate. He was a lot more affordable than other companies that I had interviewed. I was so impressed with his work ethics and previous projects, that I hired him soon after. Work started within the week and his crew worked tirelessly until the project was completed. (they even worked some weekends) I was so impressed with how they would show up on time everyday and clean up the area every evening. We had some unexpected problems like a sloping floor, but he was able to fix all of them without blinking an eye. Billy truly is a master carpenter. And my solid Cherry cabinets are all the envy of my friends. I couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: What a great company. Billy, the owner, worked with me to help me build my dream kitchen. They saw my vision and executed it perfectly. We had to take the wall out between the kitchen and the dining room, and make one big great kitchen. I got custom built cherry cabinets that make the room look spectacular. They even matched the wood floors from the dining room into the new kitchen perfectly. Billy and and his son always arrived on time and cleaned up after every shift. They were so trustworthy. I can't say enough good things about them. I liked them so much, I hired them again to help rebuild my leaking roof the following year.

i bought my first condo in 2007 with the dreams of a new kitchen. My old kitchen was from 1979 small, no space, and for a stove it had a built in cook top. As a single woman I was very nervous about hiring a company to remodel, since it has been known that some companies like to take advantage. My friend who owns the Blair Mansion told me that they had a wonderful company that remodel the Historic Mansion would be willing to meet with me. The owner of KingCaire Construction came over and he was so professional and pleasant. He sat with me and we made two plans - the first was my absolute dream kitchen (which I don't think would even fit in my condo) then we took those plans and created a plan that would work for my budget. My main concern was that I had to live in my condo while the work was being done so completion time was a stressor for me. They were wonderful, they said the job would be done in 3 weeks and it was to the date! Also all the employees were so professional. They kept the work space clean and respected that this is my house and not just a construction site. I felt like I was working with a familyl member to create my dream kitchen. I would highly reccommend Billy and his company.
Description of Work: Services Performed: 1. Complete demolition of kitchen. All cabinets, flooring, appliances and even two walls were ripped out. 2. Kitchen was redesign to have a proper Oven. They had to add a gas line. 3. They added all new cabinets. 4. A breakfast counter was added. 5. New titled floors were added. 6. For a personal touch I am short so they added pull out step stool all around the kitchen that blend into the wall. 7. They custom built a gorgeous bar that holds dish ware and glasses on display, has a place for wine and liquor but also has added 4 times storage space to my kitchen/ dinning area. 8. All new lighting was added 9. Granite Counter Tops and a new deep sink was added. 10. All new appliances were added (but paid separately from the 18K)

I haven't had anything better done. They did a great job with our porch. It is absolutely gorgeous. They were here on time and did beautiful work. I never had to call them back. They cleaned up for us when they left.
Description of Work: They built a screened-in porch for us. They have also put in windows for us. They also laid a floor in the family room for us.
I have never had contractors like these guys, they are the best. They are a father and son team from Ireland with the skills to do anything. They couldn't be nicer or friendlier -- my kids love them!
Description of Work: KingCaire built an addition onto the back of my house and I will tell you, when the rest of the house tumbles, the addition will still be standing. Few people in the building trades still use the same skills these guys have: no prefab rafters or joists, just solid wood.
