Chose Benjamin Franklin because of previous experience with technician (Chad) who also gave the initial estimate and took the time to walk through the sizes and brands available and offer advice on each. Trusted that he would install correctly and take care of details because of our previous service cal/experience with him. I was also pleasantly surprised that they could schedule us so quickly-- just a few days after I called to schedule. This was a planned install (not an emergency) to replace a 20 yr. old Rheem Ruud heater. The day of install, he arrived promptly with all equipment and parts on hand. He was here several hours and at the end, he took the time to go over all the details with me. The new tank is much larger than our old one and I felt that he positioned it correctly for the space (so it would not interfere with access to rest of storage space) and all the settings were right on. So far, am very happy with the water temperature and amount of hot water available. The company is maybe a little pricey, but having had several bad plumber/plumbing experiences in the past, I don't want to deal with anyone else, but Chad at Ben Franklin. He does the job right the first time and I have peace of mind.

The price was higher then competitors but I was expecting the work to be higher quality. They came right out and they fixed the copper piping in the yard. The person that closed up the site, tore up our gully. Left patches where there is no sod. He threw some grass seed down to fix. The sealant around the pipe was causing water to come into the basement. They had to break the wall to fix the piping again. I was informed that the compound used to seal the pipe was not correct. Then I noticed a sink a hole (several inches) where they filled in the dirt, it was sinking. The manager promised me they would come in and patch the holes in the yard. They have promised to come out and fix the problem. If they do come back and fix the problem then I will change the review to reflect the work they have fixed. The work and lawn was fixed months later but was a big disappointment.
Description of Work: The outside lawn there was a hole in the copper piping they had installed 20 years ago. I noticed the leak from the dampness in the front lawn. I called them to have them fix it.

It was quite a pricey service, but they did a really good job. They were on time, they warrantied their work, so that was part of the price and the reason it was a higher cost. They were very polite, professional, patient, explained everything and even taught me some things to prevent problems in the future. I will have them back in the future.

I spent a lot. I was comfortable with what he was saying so I went ahead and purchased it. The technician that came out was on time and he explained everything to me before he did anything. He told me the price ahead of time. Once I agreed, he started his work. He explained about the trap. He didn't have to put that in, I could have used my old trap but he explained to me the difference. Whenever I need any plumbing job done, I will be calling them back. He cleaned up the place when he was done.
Description of Work: I had to get my drain snaked by Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. I also purchased a trap for under my sink that he recommended.

My old water heater stopped working and I call Benjamin Franklin to do the repair. The service technician, Chad, was prompt and friendly. He took his time to show me what was wrong and told me that he would call in the next day to give me an estimate on both repair and replacement. The technician called as promised a day later to inform me that since my unit was 12+ years old it was best to replace the unit, which was my preference due to the age of the unit. He continued to tell me that since my water heater provides hydronic heating to my condo that the replacement was not going to be cheap and the range for replacement was between $7,000- 14,000. After I fell out of my seat, I told him to give me a couple of days to do some research and get back to him. I had a couple of other companies come and take a look at the water heater and gave me quotes starting much higher than $7,000. So I contracted with Benjamin Franklin to complete the replacement of the water heater. The company kept me informed as to when the parts were ordered and when they arrived. Day of the repair - Two technicians (Chad and other tech) arrived promptly at 8:30 am and worked tirelessly to replace the water heater. The job was completed at about 8 pm New Year's Eve. Chad informed me that he needed another part for the job ad that he would return to make the final repair but in the mean time I have hot water. I really appreciate the how quickly they were able to assit me and I would have no problems using them again.

I was quoted a price on the phone that turned out to only be the flat service fee for every call. When the technician arrived, he was very accommodating. He said that they have a chart with the different charges per sevice. He gave me the price first and asked if I wanted the service done. He hooked up the dryer without a problem and also adjusted the legs on the washer and dryer so that they would be balanced.

My rating s are based on the overall experience not the technician. The technician was very professional and punctual. Called at 8:45 pm after finding water on the basement floor. Thought it was coming from the water heaters that were installed in December. Told they could not find my information in the system even though I had a faucet replacement done the day before (Friday). Was told that I could wait until Tuesday or be put on a priority call list. Asked to be put on the priority list because the leak was getting worse and we could not stop the water. Called numerous times during the night to see when they would be coming. Were told that the service man Jason was out on a call and would contact us shortly. After another hour passed by received a call from Vincent who told us it was the wrong branch, he would be willing to come out but would have to speak with his supervisor and call us back, but in the meantime to make it easier on him we should drain the 2 75 gallon water heaters. While we were on the phone with the call center to find out what was happening and told Jed was on the way, we received a call that no one would be coming out. At this point we didn't know if someone was coming or night, so we had to call back once again. Finally we received a call from Jed saying he was on his way. After talking to Jed found out that he was on call but had not received the call to come out until around midnight, and that he was not on a previous call. Jed arrived around 11:50 am and found that it wasn't the water heaters but a pinhole leak. He fixed one, and then found another one which he fixed. Jed was great and very pleasant. I would recommend him, but can't say I would recommend the company. He told us to call Doug and let him know about the situation. We followed up and Doug was not available, but we could speak with Paul and let him know. We spoke with Paul, and he was going to call the contact center. He has yet to follow up with us as well. Very disappointed with the response and because I have another faucet to replace and at this point I am not sure if I will be using them again. Received a quote for the first faucet and shower replacement of $849. Asked for another one and received a quote of $1450. Quite a difference.

I first called very late at night and waited too long for them to arrive. I finally called back and rescheduled for the next day. When the two plumbers did arrive, they quickly assessed the situation and discussed their approach and the quote. It was slightly higher than the previous plumbing service. Once they got to work, it was clear they were going to stay until the job was done. They discovered the blockage of tree roots and worked hard to open the pipe. They cleaned up after themselves. It was clear that the quality of service justified the additional cost.
Description of Work: Contacted Ben Franklin Plumbing to open our clogged main sewer drain line -- about a month after another company did the same work imperfectly. Two technicians used increasingly larger snakes to clear the line of a massive amount of root growth. Drains throughout the house now work perfectly.

currently on septic tank. I want to hook up to public sewer which runs on my street. called franklin. had to call many times to get callback. finally got a visit from Paul.hajzus, in july (I don't have exact date, as I never received estimate) who was pleasant. He said something about difficult nature of interacting with WSSC, which I do not doubt. Said he would contact WSSC and send me an estimate. Nonetheless, I never received an estimate. Just a waste of my time.

They were here on time. They have gone through the billing process with me and they have shown me the things. So far I have been happy with them. The price is a little shocking but I think that is the price that is being charged. When I asked them if I could go over the weekend and find faucets on my own, they said that it would be fine and I could do that and if I found something cheaper they would come next week and do the work. They are giving me the option of seeing if I can get the price down by buying it myself. They said they will not charge me the service charge for next week. They were very responsive. They gave me a window and then called and told me when they were on their way within that window. They were professional. They put booties on because it was raining when they came in. I would use them again in the future.

Note that the Company does NOT charge by the hour for minor leak repairs. They have "standard pricing" sheet instead. When I heard the estimate, I balked -- but of course the technician was already there, we had to get the leak fixed, etc etc. The 5-to-10 minute replacement of a supply tube running to our icemaker cost a whopping $292 (including a $74 service call cost). The technician was polite and professional and quick, and I trusted the advice he provided with respect to the water heater (we were considering tankless but do not have adequate venting space) but the high prices for minor repairs reflect the signficiant overhead of a large chain, which this is.

Ben Franklin was wonderful. I highly recommend them and will definitely be using them again. For the water/sewer line replacements, they used a new technology that cabled new pipes underground without having to dig massive trenches in my front yard. There was no damage to my yard, and more importantly, the procedure preserved all the roots of a massive poplar tree that sits directly over both pipelines. The only digging was under the sidewalk where the pipes connected to the city valves, and there, they even cleaned up some bad root-cuts that the city had made when replacing my water meter. Our yard looks exactly like it did before they replaced the water/sewer pipes! The other work that they did on replacing interior water lines, vents and the toilet were also very well done. They were fastidious about diagnosing problems and checking their work to make sure they fixed the problem properly. They also informed me when work didn't need to be done so I didn't pay for unnecessary work. For example, an interior sewer junction had previously been leaking and we had contracted with them to replace that junction. But when they checked it after the main sewer line was replaced, they determined that the junction didn't need to be replaced after all. It had been leaking from the pressure created by the backed-up main sewer line. They also provided us with complementary products to help clear the organic gunk from our kitchen drain line. The price was very reasonable given the technology and the scope of the work. They have a book that lists fixed prices for all their jobs, so we knew they were not just making up a price on the fly. Doug, the owner, and Paul, the main supervisor, did the work and very patiently answered all our questions. They showed up right on time, cleaned up very nicely after themselves and kept us apprised of each step in the process.
Description of Work: My water pipes were galvanized pipes that were totally clogged with sediment and tree roots had invaded my sewer line creating a very slow drain. Ben Franklin replaced my water and sewer pipes from the house to the city street connection point. They also installed my washer and dryer and replaced some old galvanized water lines to my washing machine, a gas shut-off valve that had rusted, a vent for my water heater and a toilet that had been clogged with hard calcium deposits.

The manager (Mr. Terry Fisher) also did not charge us for installation of a garbage disposer that I had purchased with 5 years warranty for labor. The reason was his good business sense due to my complaint for late show for the service and not having the replacement part by another serviceman two days earlier over the weekend. The serviceman that did both jobs on Monday (4/18/2011) was Daniel Izenberg. He was very friendly and competent. He too, had a very good business sense. That is why I decided to replace our sump pump with a more reliable system. Also, I purchased their annual check-up service (I received a %15 discount for being a Ben plumbing member). Overall I am very satisfied with their service.
Description of Work: Replaced a sump pump and added a back-up sump pump system powered by a battery that is maintained fully charged with a charger connected to our electrical line. The system is under warranty for parts and labor for 5 years.

We're long standing customers of Ben Franklin, so we called them to fix a kitchen faucet leak. Israel came out and discovered that the leak was coming from the hose attached to the faucet sprayer. It was a pretty big leak. He gave us a quote to replace the entire faucet; and a quote to repair just the part. We opted with repairing the part. He said the part needed to be custom ordered. He also adjusted the dishwasher so that it fit better in the space. He was able to adjust the leg height. He could not bolt the dishwasher to the granite countertops since it is out of their area of expertise; however, the dishwasher does fit much better in the space despite the remaining wobble. About a week later, our regular guy, Chad came back with the ordered part and installed it. It now works and there is no more leak. I only wish the price were a little lower (both visits together equated to less than 2 hours), but that being said, these guys consistently perform great service and we expect to call on them again in the future.
