CONTINENTAL LANDSCAPING INC

Project started in August 2013. Contractor initially dry-lay installed flagstone walkway using polymeric sand. During installation, we pointed out that the stone outlay did not conform with the contract drawing. Instead of adding additional stone, the foreman increased the gap width between stones. Within a month of installation, several stones became loose. The contractor responded by adding a sealant to the polymeric sand. After another month, more stones became loose. In addition, a visitor injured her ankle when her shoe heal punctured a large grout seam. Upon closer inspection, nearly all grout lines were soft and susceptible to puncture even from slight finger pressure. After trying to recontact the project manager, we were told that he no longer worked for the Continental Landscaping. A new project manager was assigned. We were informed that polymeric sand was not recommended for this installation type, but unfortunately the colder weather prevented repairs from occurring before spring. In late April, I had to initiate contact with the Continental Landscaping. After two emails and waiting two weeks for a response, I called the company to finally schedule repair work in early June. During this period, the walkway was experiencing 80% degradation in loose stones and eroded polymeric sand. Also during this period, we asked two independent contractors to assess the installation and both were highly critical of using polymeric sand. In early June 2014, a new crew and foreman replaced the polymeric sand with Gator Dust, which we were assured is the best product for our walkway. Also repaired was the stoop, which did not have the main stone step properly anchored (one could easily lift it off the base). Within two weeks, over half the stones were loose and the Gator Dust was degrading in several areas. We contacted Continental Landscaping and the foreman came to inspect the walkway. I showed multiple loose stones in the walkway and stoop (rocking back and forth when stepped on ? in several cases, one could just lift the stone up). He arranged to have the AllianceGator representative inspect the project a week later. The Alliance rep inspected the walkway without Continental Landscaping present, and relayed that the crew did not properly mix the Gator Dust. This was clearly the case, since most had washed away to bare sand and other areas had only an 1/8? layer of semi-firm adhesion. He stated that he would be present when Continental Landscaping came to repair. After another long delay, in mid-July we were informed that the foreman would come to make the repairs. Based on the extensive degradation that continued during the thirty days, we conveyed how unsatisfied we have been with Continental Landscaping?s work ethic and quality control, and made it clear that if we were not satisfied with this next repair, then we would request our money back. The mid-July repair was incomplete. The areas that were repaired seemed to standard, but unfortunately approximately 50% of the walkway?s stones were still loose and were not addressed during the repair. Several areas still had exposed sand from where the Gator Dust had eroded and other grout areas remained so soft that you could press a finger through the grout. We sent an email to Continental Landscaping requesting a refund of the work and reclaim the stone if desired, and implored the owner of Continental Landscaping to personally inspect the poor workmanship. The terse response was that Continental Landscaping would not follow-up with an inspection nor consider refunding our money. We are reporting Continental Landscaping to the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. All work deficiencies have been documented with photographic, video, and physical evidence (grout depicting nominal depth). The exceptionally poor price mark is given based on the cost to install a new walkway and stoop. The new contractor completed the work from contract signing to finished project in less than a week for half the cost of Continental Landscaping. The new company did not cut corners ? they used thicker flagstone positioned with close gaps using a wet lay installation. They even provided sod to the immediate lawn area that had experienced construction damage.

As before, he responded promptly, provided a fair estimate of the work, and we are so pleased with the results of the new LED lighting. We asked to have 3 of the lights moved since they were close to the driveway and Tony personally came to move them to our satisfaction. I highly recommend this company for their quality work.

CONTINENTAL LANDSCAPING INC is one of the best hardscape companies in the area. Tony and his crew have done work in at least three different locations in our community. Our community needed to replace our old broken down gazebo. We sent out bids from 4 different companies. Based on the design and proposal write up, Continental won the bidding process. They delivered a beautiful and structurally sound area that is constantly used by the community. Feel free to stop and look at it - it is located at the corner of Fairbourne Court and Bakers Place in Hanover, MD 21076. Keeping in mind, there was a huge demo of an old commercial gazebo and quite a bit of cement prep work, the HOA spent about $24.5K for the whole project, guaranteed for 2 years. Tony finished the work in May 2014. Kids climb on the pillars, use sidewalk chalk on the pavers, it is used for kids mini photoshoots, and I have seen picnics happen in the middle of the new area. At least one other homeowner spoke to me about some work Tony had done for them in the neighborhood a few years prior -- due to ground settling, some stone work shifted (no fault of Continental), and it was explained to me that Tony held up his warranty and sent a whole crew for most of a day to repair the ground shifting stonework. So, I have seen it first hand they do nice work and they stand behind their work. When the biding came out, Continental was not the cheapest but he also was not the most expensive but he surely did the best work. We would hire him again whether it was a $5K project or a $25K project. Continental does nice work!

They were scheduled to do work by no later than July 7th. They did not end up doing the work until three weeks later around July 29th. They did not stick with the day they told me. When I would complain to them, they would blame weather or the utility company. They indicated that the work I needed done was smaller than other larger jobs-basically pointing out that my smaller job was not quite as important as the larger jobs. With that being said, that is why I had to wait to have the work done. One of the reasons I went with this company was because they are a Super Service Award Winner. Their quality of work was definitely super, however their scheduling was not. With other service providers I had used, I got other estimates and interviewed other companies. Unfortunately, with this company I did not compare them to other companies before choosing to do my project with them! The team that came in and did the work did a really, really good job! I am not unhappy with them whatsoever! I am only unhappy with the scheduling process.

Overall, an excellent experience from beginning to end. Tony promptly responded to my request for contact and made arrangements to meet with me to discuss my project. My goal was to improve the curb appeal of my home. He created a plan, reviewed it, and gave us options for changes. We were impressed with the quality of the design work and attention to detail. We live near a park so deer frequent our property. Tony was mindful of this and included deer resistant plants and low wattage lighting for the evening. Tony called and had an opening and within a few days, the project started and sooner than I would have planned, the work was finished. The landscape team was courteous, hard working, and cleaned up at the end of the day. I was impressed with the team's attention to detail including caulking an area around the driveway and filling in a low spot with asphalt near the new paved walkway. I asked Tony to put a sign in my yard so I could proudly display it for my neighbors. I have to say it makes me smile to see my neighbors slowly driving by the front of the house and gaze. Several neighbors have approached us just to say what a nice job Continental Landscaping did and likely will be having work done at their homes too. Thanks Tony, Mike, and the team for delivering an outstanding product and added value to our home.

I spent a few hours researching possible contractors for our hardscape plans. I interviewed four different providers and settled on Tony and Continental. The pricing was great, but along with that his integrity, depth of knowledge, communication style, and professionalism made Continental the easy choice to do the project. From the first design meeting to the regular meetings on the project as it went on, I always had a pulse on what was happening and Tony made it easy to make changes on the fly. I ended up adding several thousand dollars in work to the project, because the team made simple changes that impacted the overall look of my home and showed me how much better my house could look. The results are amazing. The patio is exactly what we wanted, and his design eye helped us improve our ideas to come up with something way better than originally planned. I plan to have Continental continue to work on the landscape and hardship on my home, and expect a long relationship with Continental. To sum it up: 1. We love all three projects installed by Continental Landscaping. They have created esthetically pleasing focal points, have added value to our home, and have brought hours of relaxation and enjoyment. Both the management and the team of workers have always been friendly, efficient, and professional. We would definitely work with them again and recommend Continental to our neighbors.

I can not speak highly enough of the professionalism and quality of work performed by Continental Landscaping. They were timely in all phases and more than delivered on their commitment of a high quality project. Could not be happier with the selection of such a talented contractor.

Tony was great to work with to design just the landscape features we were looking for. We got three quotes and not only did Continental come in with the lowest price, but we were also convinced that they would do a first rate job. We were not disappointed. A couple of times issues arose, and were worried that we would have to make some compromises, but Tony was great about resolving things to our satisfaction, even when it meant extra work on his part. Oscar, who was there for the entire project, is a meticulous craftsman. We would definitely recommend Continental.

The new pathways were done skillfully and look lovely. We would give Continental a A rating if the appearance of the paths were the only issue. However, we pointed out to the company that they had to be careful about the grading since our drainage issues, with the patio door not much above the level of the patio, so the nearby swale has to have sufficient fall to carry off heavy rains. We did have a very heavy rain event, and had substantial flooding in the patio and swale area, which was much worse than before the new paths were laid. If the rain had lasted much longer we would have had water coming in the patio door. The grading was not properly done and substantially worsened our already marginal draining situation. We had up to 6 inches of water in the area near the swale and patio, something that had not happened before. It is true that the provider had suggested putting in some drains, but we decided we could delay doing this so as to keep the job affordable at this time, since the drainage had not previously been a major worry. The Continental job supervisor came back to look at the problem about 2 weeks ago, but have not heard back from him. In the meantime we will have another company install a drain system since, after talking to the new company, we are convinced that they have a much better understanding of what is needed to correct the problem. We would not have contracted for drainage work at this time, but the problem created by Continental forces us to spend a considerably more money to have the problem corrected.

They were absolutely wonderful. After we agreed on a contract, Tony, the owner provided an estimated start date. They actually started early and finished within a week. They workers were timely, professional and actually did more than what was agreed to. At no point did Tony request payment for the extra work, which was just unbelievable!! I cannot thank him enough for the extraordinary job and willingness to work within budget.

They worked really hard. The product was wonderful. It was expensive.

Extremely professional - followed through with all promises and was always on time. Work was better than expected. Brought samples and brochures which made it easier to pick out the product I wanted to use. Would use again.

Tony listened to our yard landscaping wishes, made some very insightful comments. Got back to us with a quote in a timely manner and had his team perform the work on the dates and times that he said that they would.

The quote was for $10000. I ended up not using them since we did not use anybody; pretty much put the project on hold. Michael the owner came out, he was very knowledgeable, very friendly, and very punctual. He was very experienced but we did not go for it. I would consider using them in the future.

Mark Stevenson, Sales and Design, listened to our ideas, made suggestions on materials and design details, and promptly responded with a preliminary drawing that was basically on target and required very little adjustment to meet our desires. The quoted price for the work was reasonable and about 20% lower than another contractor's bid. The construction crew worked hard and efficiently, and were careful to minimize "damage" to the driveway and adjacent grass areas. We are very pleased with the professionalism of everyone from Continental involved in our project, as well as the final result. We would certainly recommend this firm to anyone wanting to hardscape a portion of their property.

It was easy for me. They worked very hard for about a week to complete the job. They always showed up as promised and worked long days. A supervisor was always available if needed--and I need him once. He scooted right over and solved a small design issue.

Continental Landscaping quickily transformed my yard from a weedy mess into a very polished and clean yard.

Tony replied promptly to my request for an estimate and came to inspect our pool deck at the appointed time. He listened to our concerns, shared his observations as to the likely problems and proposed a solution that although potentially expensive was the best alternative to correct the problem. This involved taking up all the existing pavers, regrading, and placing the pavers back, as well as installing a new drainage system near the house to prevent future flooding. He kept in contact with me throughout the process and his team of skilled workers did an exceptional job. The new pool deck looks better than the original. With the recent storm as a test of the new drainage system, I can say that it performed extremely well! I highly recommend Continental Landscaping and would definitely use them again.

Superb!! It is the best way to describe my experience with Continental Landscaping. Tony came with not one, but two drawn specs and a written proposal for my front yard hardscape, which gave me a wide range of options in completing my project. The quality and outstanding work performance of his crew made the process easy. I made add-ons to the original plan, which Tony accommodated without any problem. He was truly a joy to work with. The experience was an utter pleasure. Tony was up front with me and worked within my time-frame. He kept me updated and answered all of my inquiries quickly.

We were repeat customers of Tony Verzi and his Continental team. About 4 1/2 years ago they completed an overhaul of our front stoop and landscaping. After completing a project to add an addition that removed our existing deck we were seeking a patio to create outdoor living space. We talked to several other contractors about artistic concrete and flagstone options but landed back with Tony. He offered a very competitive bid and a higher quality look than what we could have gotten otherwise for the same amount of money. The Continental team worked a 12 hour day to get the patio installed for us by Memorial Day. The came back that Saturday to complete clean-up and lay down seed. We felt they went above and beyond what was required. We would recommend Tony and his team to anyone seeking patio or hardscapes in their yard.

I can't say enough about the quality, professionalism and value presented by Tony and his excellent team.
