They showed up within the time frame stated. It was all done in an hour and I'm happy with the results. My contractor experiences with Angie's List have been mixed, but this was one of the best. A solid "A" for Home Services.
Description of Work: I wanted a check-up of my AC system and called Home Services. Since it's the beginning of the summer season, I expected them to tell me that they couldn't see me for a week or more, but they were able to schedule me within two days. The technician was extremely professional, nice, and capable--explaining what he was doing along the way and making recommendations to me regarding maintenance.

The company installed the tankless water heater and air conditioning unit over a two-day period. The workers were professional and knowledgable and worked neatly and efficiently. I talked to three companies about tankless water heaters and I found this company gave me the most accurate information and was the only one that offered me a unit that was actually appropriate for my home size and water needs (the other companies tried to sell me units that were too large). The only negatives: The workers knocked out the pilot light on my furnace unit (note that this installation was in December!) and I had to call them back to get the furnace restarted. With the air conditioning unit, which we did not use until May, we discovered that the condenser outflow hose was blocked, and thus water backed up into the unit. Again, the company responded quickly, properly installed the hose, but then crudely repositioned the indoor portion of the unit so that it was at the proper angle for draining condensed water. Bottom line: Courteous, professional, honest, willing to correct mistakes -- but in my case I wish they made fewer mistakes.

The tech was competent and friendly. The problem was that he arrived after 6pm, when I was told that a tech would arrive between 11am-3pm. When I called at 3:30pm to determine where the tech was, I was told by the gentleman answering the phone that "we have no record of your appointment." When I explained that I had called at 9:30am that day and relayed the time period, as well as other pertinent information (rate, etc.) that had been provided to me he asked who I had made the appointment with. I obviously have no idea who answered the phone (other than that it was a male) and I didn't feel that the o*** should be on me to prove that I had an appointment. After some disagrement over this, he did agree to send me a tech (who arrived sometime after 6pm).

The technician missed the first appointment, but he had called to let us know that he would not be able to make it. When he did come, we found the technician informative and we appreciated his views on the options for replacement. We had looked forward to the estimate, which he had promised by the end of the week. We did not receive the estimate so we followed up to find out and we were promised that the estimate would be provided. It has been over 3 weeks but we did not receive the estimates from him.

This work was a follow-up to a routine service call I made to the company, see separate report. The service call determined that A/C had leaked coolant and given age of unit would not be worth it to repair. Furnace was 18 years old, so they recommended that I replace both at the same time to save. Install went well. Installers were professional and arrived on-time. After completing work they tested the system and instructed me on how to work it and what preventative maintenance should be done.

Very well! We were initially provided a quote last year and when we called in March to follow up, they honored their quote from last year. We were impressed by this. We had two home inspections (initial and again in March), including one with a technical/install guy who looked at the physical aspects of the installation and was better able to idenitfy what needed to be done and how long it would take. The guys finished the work in three days - installing the rooftop air compressor, heat exchange in our crawl space, and refrigerant lines/blower units within that time. Because we live in an historic building (1928), they had to be careful about impact, but the impact was minimized. Only complaint was that they left greasy smudges on a lot of walls - in our unit and in the common areas - and didn't clean it up (which upset our building manager), but we cleaned it up. Because some of the guys live far away, they were a little late arriving the last two days, but made up for that in the quality of the system installed and the effort to complete on-time. One note about the system, and we think it's an install issue since it only stems from one of the three units installed: the system rattles when the heat exchanger/compressor kick in, which is a little noisy. We're looking into solutions to dampen the noise, but otherwise, we were thrilled with the process and service.

When the technician arrived he was professional, and completed the service call. Explained in detailed what he did and offered some suggestions for better AC throughout the house.

Tim arrived at the very end of a three hour window. Didn't introduce himself, though was wearing a name tag. Seemed kind of confused by the three-wire set up our 1941 house has. Called some other folks and got it figured out eventually. Told lots of personal stories throughout his visit... Setting aside that I don't particularly want to hear about his ex-wife, when he's billing by the half-hour I'd rather him spend less time talking. He eventually decided that the compressor was broken. He quoted us a quote of $5,500 to replace the whole unit. We called another company to get a second quote, and very glad we did. Fifteen minutes after the technician arrived, the old AC unit was up an running. It may not last forever, but it works and we didn't have to spend $5,500. Overall, Tim was nice and seemed fairly competent, but he wasn't the most professional and seems to have tried to sell us a new system we didn't need.

Thank you for your response! The technician in question is a very promising, friendly up and comer, but not one of our seasoned, veteran techs. It sounds like the compressor may have been opened on internal overload while he was there, hopefully the unit will not overheat this summer and reopen. Should the unit fail again this season, and you wish to pursue the $1,500 energy tax credit currently available, etc, I would be happy to work out a further discount with you. I think this tech did his best and will be fine, but needs more field time along with our ongoing mentoring. Thank you for your input, feel free to call me if you would like to discuss further.

Selected Home Air from a number of bids. Their contract/bid was thorough and easy to read. The sales process took some time before we got a written bid, but it was in part due to changing tax credit policies for environmentally friendly units and they were trying to provide a comprehensive quote for both A/C and heat initially, but we opted to go with only an A/C at this time. Once we selected them, their installation scheduling process was efficient and someone stopped by in advance to do a pre-flight check to make sure they would have the correct equipment for the subsequent install. The installers were prompt, the installation process was fast, and they left the area neat/tidy. They were even considerate of our concerns with our two dogs escaping due to our loose gate and double-checked it on their way out.

On such an abnormally hot day, I figured that my pre-booked first time service call would have to be reschedule. The company called early and said that my technician would be a little late which was completely understandable and OK with me. Tim came within an hour. He was very efficient, thorough and knowledgable. I went ahead with a service contract and look forward to using company....and hopefully Tim...twice a year to make sure that our systems are performing at their peak.

The company was able to accomondate a request for earlier service, as it was clear that the weekend would be hot, and the system would have to be working (very good!). The technician was extremely polite, thorough and checked the entire system. He also repaired a condensation drainage pipe that had become disconnected. He reconnected it with some sort of cement so it would drain properly. He tested the system to see that the drainage was coming from the correct pipe, and going into the gutter system. My only real complaint is that it took him an extremely long time to do the checking of the system (one zone) and do the small repair. I paid for the $265 for the twice a year contract, but also had to pay $172. for his reaffixing the condensation pipe. This seemed very high for the type of repair. Home Air could improve on their service by telling their employees to clean their muddy boots before entering a customer's home -- because the tech had to enter and exit a landing window to get to a flat roof for the condensation pipe repair, he left dried mud under the window on the wall. (Only a small annoyance, but still) I called their office and was assured by the original office person that she would check with her service manager about the charge and get back to me. She also admitted that this particular is known to be slower, but is very thorough. I feel certain that I will be contacted, as this company seems service oriented.

Thank you for taking the time to give us a fair and balanced review. We have, in the past, instructed our techs on such things, but will continue to reiterate this type of issue periodically with them. Not being there it is hard for me to comment with specificity on if it took the technician too long to do the various things, however in the name of customer satisfaction, would it be satisfactory if we use this letter/e-mail as tripling the next Home Air Services billable call you have, from the normal $20 Angie’s coupon to $60.00? And, of course, if still needed I would be glad to make a quick courtesy call to wipe up footprint mark.

I moved into a foreclosure, and after about 3 months both of my A/C units started going bad. After having a bad experience with a contractor who came out to repair the units, I joined angies list and found out about Home Air Services. Their professionalism was top-notch - from the first repairman who came out to the estimator - to the crew who performed the installation. They were consistently on time, polite, clean, and fair in all of their dealings. Most importantly, the individuals i dealt with were honest, not trying to upsell and providing me with the solutions that were right for my home and my budget. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for HVAC services and products.

Went very smoothly throughout. Making the initial appointment the service rep picked up on the first ring and she was very pleasant; later I had to reschedule which was also easy. Company called 30 minutes before technician arrived, as promised. Technician, Tim, arrived right in the middle of the 4 hour window. Company charges by the quarter hour, so speed is essential. Tim got to work immediately and was very efficient. He inspected the inside air handler and while in there noticed the filter needed to be replaced. He gave me a few freebies off the truck and installed it. Then he inspected the outside unit. Unfortunately when testing the coolant pressure he determined that the system was bone-dry and probably had a leak and the unit needed to be repaired or replaced. Since the unit was 15+ years old, I decided to replace it. Tim immediately took me off the clock and started to take measurements and work up an estimate. I decided to use Home Air Services to replace my A/C because of their good reviews, and especially because their Actuals always come in very close to their estimates.

Estimator visited and looked over the situation; came back within hours with documented alternatives (possibilities he had discussed with me when he visited) This included price information as well as the specifications of the equipment he was offering. I picked the one that seemed best for this situation, and we scheduled installation. Everything went as planned. The technicians arrived on time, did all the agreed upon work, installed the new unit, cleaned up thoroughly and showed me how to work the new programmable thermostat. Everything works perfectly.

They take their job seriously. When I contacted them they immediately set up an appointment to come and take a look at my system. Some of the other companies just gave estimates over phone without looking at the particulars of the situation, which in my case was due to the lack of a drain in the utility room to dispose of the excess water from the humidifier. Matt Smith came and took measurements, even took digital pictures of the furnace and provided me with alternatives. On the day of the installation, the technician was on time and worked efficiently and cleanly. We had a minor mishap with the system on the day of installation because the pipe that was going outside the house for water drainage froze. However, Matt personally stayed on top of the matters, sent a technician immediately and remedied the situation with no additional expense to us.

Called on a Thursday. The could come Saturday (overtime rate) or Tuesday. Talked to the technician on duty first thing Saturday morning and by nature of problem he said it could wait until Tuesday. Same technician I talked to came on Tuesday morning. Tinkered around and discovered expansion tank was turned off, which mean excess water, about 1/2 gallon a day, was coming out of escape pipe. Once he opened it back up, it did the trick. Still have a couple of drips but not the problem. All along, the technician was thorough, explained things along the way, and it felt reassuring and good value.

The office assistant provided : how soon I could have service, the approximate time of arrival, the price without the $20 discount. The technician arrived late but I had received a call informing me that he would be delayed. The technician first checked out the noise problem with the dehumidifier. He could not find any reason for the problem but suggested what I could do if it occurred again (in order to narrow down where the problem was). He checked the heating, cooling system and thermostat and provided tips for a more efficient use. I was very satisfied with the quality of service.

There were some glitches in the installation, because the air handler was a bit too big for the closet. They tried to find a new air handler for me, but most were of equal size or larger. In the end they ended up installing the larger air handler and working with me to make the closet work. Throughout they were great, working with me and explaining what was going on. They really persevered and I appreciated their willingness to stick with it, even when I called on Sunday with a problem with the air handler. They spent countless hours making sure I knew what was going on, how to best work the system and they even adjusted the closet doors so that they would work with the larger unit. I was impressed with all the technicians that came out and learned a lot through their patient explanations.

Home Air Services was by far one of the best repair experiences I have had for any product. I had first called another company that I had used for plumbing in the past. The technician they sent clearly could not determine what the problem was and wanted to charge me over $500 to replace a few parts. His explanation of what was wrong made no sense. So I looked at the Angie's List reviews and called Home Air Services. They came out that afternoon, within the three hour window they gave me, and the technician they sent quickly did a bunch of tests and determined where the problem was. The service call and repair would have been about $150, but I was so impressed by them that I ended up signing up for their annual service plan (around $250) and so they only charged me the difference in cost for the service plan. The service was probably a little more expensive than some other companies, but it was worth it. I had working heat again instantly and a lot of confidence in the repair job.
Description of Work: My heat was not functioning properly. The furnace kept trying to start and would then almost immediately shut off. There was a little heat coming from the vents, but when the temperatures outside started dropping severely, the temperature in my house got down into the 50s.

I came home from work after 7pm to a dripping ceiling. Went upstairs and realized the boiler was leaking. I called three companies listed on Angie's List and HASI returned my call promptly. Matt listened to what I had to say (in my panicked state), told me what he thought it might be and said he'd come out though he was coming into DC from Baltimore. Less than an hour later he was at my door. He spent a few minutes looking things over and took care of the leak. He was patient and answered all my questions while waited for the boiler to refill to make sure it and my heat would work properly. He finished in an hour and a quarter and was a complete professional. I would be happy to use them again and to let my friends know of the wonderful service I received.

The pipes in our heating system had been banging for more than a year. I thought it was because of air in the system, but that turned out to have nothing to do with it. We had another contractor (Kensington Heating) come out three times but they could not figure it out. However, Steve from Home Air had the problem diagnosed withing five minutes of arriving and had it fixed within 15 minutes. I signed 'em up on the spot for an annual maintenance contract.

On January 21st, 2009, my wife noticed that the furnace had not come on in a while and the house temperature had dropped to around 60 degrees. I did a quick check of Angie's List and found Home Air Services as the top rated HVAC in the Rockville area with many positive reviews. I contacted their dispatch for an emergency call around 9:30am, they took my information and indicated a technician would be out shortly. Matt from Home Air Services arrived promptly at 10am and began to inspect the furnace. Matt was professional, courteous and polite, all the while working on the furnace. He explained in plain understandable terms what was wrong with the pilot assembly and how he fixed it. He remained with the furnace to make sure that it ran properly and checked the intake vents to make sure there were no restrictions. He then answered our numerous questions about our 18 year old legacy furnace system, our digital thermostat and even our legacy AC unit. Matt also left a yearly service agreement contract for us to look over that would encompass both AC check up and furnace checkups. Home Air Services was unbelievably quick to respond, very efficient and professional. I can see why they have been nominated POH so many times. I also like that Matt never pushed the replacement of any item in a 18 year old system that up until this morning had run without incident. In a nutshell, I trust Matt and he is the reason we will use this company in the future.
