Arrived on time, 7:30 am- in one hour had serviced and repaired some wires in our AC unit and checked out the Heater :) Very good! A+++ and will use again! Clean too :)
Description of Work: We just had a terrible experience with a plumber from Angie's List ($400 for 8 minutes work unstopping two drains) so we were hesitant to use another Angie's List service- Home Air Services Inc changed my mind on that! A+++ $194 for a service contract for our AC and Heater twice a year is very fair (so this time really only cost us $97 :-) Friendly, fast, on time and yet thorough. Explained everything clearly to us and gave helpful recommendations on extending the life of our AC unit! Thanks!

Great! Will definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: Had A/C unit issues with the drip pan filling up with water. Tech came in and immediately was able to determine the issue. Within 1.5 hours he had everything fixed and cleaned up. He also walked us through how parts of the A/C unit worked and tested how well our unit was working. Overall a great example of how a service call should be handled. Very pleased!

Not so good. The initial service was fine but I was never contacted to service my gas furnace (this was a yearly contract for 2 checkups) and by the time I needed service they were not willing to check my unit unless I renewed. The 'sales' person over the phone hung up on me when I could not provide a Visa/MC number and I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN!
Description of Work: I purchased a service contract with Home Air Services for $280. When the tech arrived to service my unit, there were additional charges totaling up to ~$350.

It’s a little hard to piece this one together, and say exactly what happened when, due to the volume. Generally speaking, our procedure for contacting customers for getting their maintenance scheduled is we try by phone twice, if no call back is received, then we mail out a pink postcard. If anyone ever called and said they wanted their maintenance that was paid for but not run for whatever their reason, we would of course honor it, with or without a renewal. This one is particularly hard to understand since the time period would have been at our slow time of year and we were looking for work to keep the men busy. Of what I could track down, the member didn’t speak with a sales person (as we only use techs/managers at this time to do estimates) but instead, with one of our dispatchers. His side of the story/recollection is that there was no mention of any missed appointment, just the customer wanting to renew his maintenance agreement with an Amex card. When informed we only accept Visa & MasterCard, he said all right I’ll call back and he hung up. In any event as previously stated we are more than happy to run the remaining maintenance under the old service agreement, of course at no charge.

Twenty two years as a regular maintenance customer, with a furnace replacement less than seven months ago and they would not even schedule an apointment because my renewal payment was aparently two days late (One of those days with no mail service). This was to schedule an appointment which typically is about a week or two in the future. They would not even take that step. Customer loyalty is apparently not a two way street with Home Air

I would like to start out by saying that, although no money was involved, the entire situation seems unfortunate and overblown, and probably unnecessary. With regard to the prior furnace install, a service dispatcher is not necessarily going to know about an installation purchase during the prior year etc…, but we do sincerely appreciate the member past patronage and loyalty. If the member would still like to work it out, I can resolve it for him. With that said I get a little different version from our dispatcher, who says he did offer to take a credit card at the time of the call, but was allegedly told the customer would rather send payment in later that month. The general procedure would be to collect payment before going out on a service agreement, or to have payment left at the job site for the technician to pick up if time were of the essence for some reason, as it can get very confusing for dispatching from the computer when a call is run not in the renewal cycle sequence. I can also understand how the member feels after having made a large purchase within the last year. I too sometimes feel somewhat insulted for example, when cashiers ask me for an I.D. at a store I frequent when I use a credit card since I know I’m good for it. Bottom line, I believe rational voices on both sides could easily have worked something out, I would be happy to work out an alternative arrangement with the member, I just think policies/software and the real world don’t always flow together. No insult intended, sometimes employees are between a rock and a hard place between following their instructions, interfacing with computer software (their not good with exceptions) and their authority to deviate. It is unfortunate this ended up this way; I believe it can easily be resolved.

He gave me some pretty good technical advice. He told me that the way I had closed my dampers, I have been overheating my furnace. I had leaks in my ducts and the piping and he told that I had to seal those, which was pretty obvious, but he did confirm that. He suggested a solution to reduce the noise in the system. He was pretty helpful.

I called them first thing in the morning and they gave an appointment window that afternoon. About halfway through the window, I received a call from the office letting me know the technician was running late but would be there that day. I appreciated the call rather than just letting me wonder. He found the problem but was unable to repair that day as the line was frozen and the unit needed to be turned off to allow it to thaw. He offered to come back the next day to replace the two broken parts but I was unavailable so it was scheduled for the day after. He arrived and promptly replaced the two parts, checked the system and added the needed coolant. I really appreciated he only did the repairs necessary and didn't try to sell me a replacement system (the unit is 14 years old!). I'll be budgeting in savings for a new unit next year and Vito will surely get an opportunity to provide a quote.

I called them, discussed my needs and gave them the address. They scheduled to come out the next day to provide a free estimate. The gentlemen arrived as planned, drafted an estimate that day, and faxed it over to me. We accepted the estimate, signed and faxed it back. They called and I gave them my cc # over the phone. They charged 30%, then installed the unit two days later- and then I was charged the remainder. It was simple, easy and straight forward- they even beat the price quote that I had received from another company (about $600 off) and I am happy with the service I received!

My unit is working after five visits from VITO. In early March my heating unit stopped working. Initially, the serviceman informed me I need a new motor. I okay'd the work. When he returned, my neighbor was here to let him in. When I got home the air flow pipe was off the unit and the unit was running very loud. No one from the company called me but left me note indicating the pipe was not sending air to the heater. I called and in a dismissive tone was told the pipe needed to be replaced and the loud noise was because the pipe had been removed. I did not feel comfortable with running my unit, since it was left dismantled without at least a courtesy call. I contacted the company to inform them that the unit ran loud and I had concerns. They sent out another serviceman who was also dismissive. He told me if I replace the pipe then all would be okay. The pipe was replaced and the unit was still loud. Then, they decided it was the blower motor. After 4 days pre-spring weather with no heat, a blower was put in. Yes, I firmly believe I was ripped off and further no one from the company bothered to apologize for the inconvenience. I do not recommend this company for any work what so ever.

I got bids from a few companies and this was the best one overall. The system worked quite well for heating this winter. Summer is yet to come. I moved into this house in November and immediately arranged to have an HVAC installed. I never used the previous system so I have no point of comparison for this house. Previously, though, I lived in a one-bedroom condo on the ground level. My winter utility costs were a little higher in the one-bedroom condo (700 sq ft) than they were in this rowhouse (1600 sq ft) with this new system. I expect the summer costs will be a little higher here, since the condo was ground-level with neighbors running their AC above me.
Description of Work: I had a hybrid gas / heat pump installed. The system is a Trane. The gas furnace is 80% efficient and the heat pump is a 15 SEER, 2 ton. Blower is variable speed.

Six weeks after the technician had made the repair, the flex-duct piping fell completely off the furnace again. The owner (a friend for whom I became a volunteer property manager when he was transferred overseas with very little warning) assumed that the second repair would be done at no charge. His viewpoint was that the technician had overlooked something; otherwise, the problem would not have recurred. When I said this to Lionel, the owner of the company, he said that sometimes repairing an obvious problem will cause an underlying problem to become apparent. Although this made completely good sense to me, I expressed my queasiness over committing someone else's money (my friend's) with no idea of how much money might turn out to be involved. Lionel replied that although it is company policy not to give estimates, he was happy to send a technician in my sort of situation so that we both would know why the repair had come undone again and--if I needed to pay for an additional repair--how large a repair would be involved. Lionel was able to get a technician there quickly (both times, which was good, since there is a tenant in the apartment and the furnace closet was the only part of the apartment that was warm; the rest of the apartment was icy-cold). The technician's "diagnosis" was that although the first technician had carried out the repair competently, the second technician could see an alternative taping strategy that would make it all but impossible for the flex-duct piping to come unstuck again. Very cheerfully, the technician got out a roll of tape and did a careful job of taping the flex-duct piping again. Should Home Air Services have been responsible for the second repair or should I have paid for it? It could have been argued in either direction, I think, which made Home Air Services seem highly classy to have settled the argument in my favor without arguing at all. There was no charge for the second visit, and both Lionel and the technician were as nice to me in settling the matter as it would have been possible to be.
Description of Work: The flex-duct piping that carries warm air out of the furnace and into the apartment's system of ducts had fallen off the furnace completely. The technician re-taped the flex-duct piping to the furnace and checked the ducts to see if warm air was flowing.

The techncian was very prompt and professional. However, in checking the system, he left the water inlet valve open so the system overpressurized. After he left I found water in the basement coming from the pressure relief valve and spent a lot of time reducing the pressure back to normal and cleaning up the water. The parts price quote was $505 for one part and $298 for the other plus a rough estimate 4 hours labor at $160 per hour for a total of about $1443. The system was repaired by another contractor using new parts for less than $400.

Normally the water inlet valve on a boiler is left in the open position, and it is the job of the “automatic” fill valve (between the water inlet valve & boiler) to modulate the flow of water to the boiler. It’s a little unclear if this customer is saying the other company charged $400 for parts or the whole repair. Based on the great disparity in cost (typically we are in the middle price wise) it doesn’t sound like the “scope” of our repair was the same as the other company. If he would like to send me a copy of the other company’s ticket I would be glad to review it. Our price/labor estimate would also have included, the time consuming draining down of the boiler, bleeding all the radiators, etc. So the amount of time quoted seems in the ball park. Although it does happen, we would rather estimate on the high side and bring actual bill in under the estimate, than charge someone more than initially expected. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, as we distribute it to our technicians whether positive or needing improvement.

We had an iffy encounter with Home Air Services last year, and reported as much here on Angie's List. The company contacted me and apologized for the problem, and asked for the chance to make it up. This year, when we decided to get several quotes for replacement of our aging HVAC system, we decided to give Home Air Services another chance. Scott came out on a Friday, and was very friendly and professional. He clearly understood our system and its various shortcomings. He told us that we would have an estimate with several options by close of business that day, or Saturday morning at the latest. At this point, we were very excited about working with Scott and Home Air Services. Saturday came and went with no estimate. As did Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday I called to inquire about the missing estimate. They put Scott on the phone, and he apologized profusely and promised to have it to me by close of business that day. It is now Wednesday, more than five days after we were initially promised the estimate. We will not be using Home Air Services.

To start, we want to apologize for not executing in a timely manner the free estimate for this member. From our side, you can see, from other write ups, that for the most part we do service our customers promptly. So first, I’d like to repeat that for the loyal Angie’s community, since I can only fix things if I know about them, whether for service or a free estimate, if you ever have a concern please contact me directly on my cell phone at 301-674-4179. Although I can understand how we get behind on the free estimates at the height of the heating and cooling season, this isn’t the case currently. Furthermore, I don’t know if this was, or wasn’t the case in the instance, but from time to time we have seen if we send email from “Outlook” and the recipient uses “Hotmail” or “Yahoo” and do not have our email address saved as one of their contacts, our estimate can go directly to their junk mail file. We show the proposal was sent on Tuesday, but we don’t want to make excuses, it appears we could have done a better job communicating with this potential customer.

I called after a night of no heat upstairs. I decided on Home Air after reading through Angie's List reviews. I was given a window of 12-4 pm that day, which was great since it usually takes several days to get someone out this time of year. My service tech arrived at noon. He diagnosed the problem quickly. I was very happy with his knowledge and willingness to take the time to explain how the system worked and where the problem was. I was thrilled with the overall experience. I have used 4 different HVAC service companies in the past year and Home Air was by far the best one I have used and will continue to use.

They just do our furnaces. We have a service contract with them. They are very good. We have never had any complaints. We haven't used any other companies so I can't compare their prices with anyone else's. Once or twice they have had to come back because they overlooked something, but they have been pretty good. They are very prompt. They are very punctual. They give us a time and come between the time that they say or call and tell us that they are not going to make it in that timeframe.

Home Air Service was great! Since the purcahse of a furnace is a major purchase, I did extensive research and got 3 estimates. The first 3 estimates (2 from Angie's List) each lacked something (either bad service or too expensive). Home Air Service provided excellent service at a fair price (not cheap - you don't really want to go with the cheapest when making this type of purchase). Scott came out and gave me the estimate, answered all my questions, and gave me a brochure on my system. Vicki in the office was pleasant and efficient. The technicians who performed the installation were punctual, professional, and completely cleaned up when done. Most importantly, the system works great! I have never been warmer in my home!

The furnace on my rooftop heater/AC stopped working. No hot air. I called, and the dispatcher asked if it would be okay if the tech came out the next day. Great! He showed up early on a Thursday, and went up to the roof. He did some diagnostic testing, explaining to me the process. He was able to diagnose the problem in under a half hour. The furnace had a blown out induction motor. I took a photo of the motor's label in situ, and got some pointers on how to pull the old motor, and put the new motor in. Went online, bought the new motor, and just installed it. 68 degrees and loving it.

Signed them up for twice a year inspection of HVAC - the furnace in the fall, the AC in the spring. Performed successfully. A month later called them when radiator zone was not putting out heat. They came within hours even though I said it was not urgent (60 degree weather). Immediately diagnosed problem as a bad switch on the water pump, switched it out with the not as essential lower level zone until they got a replacement. Advised me on options (replacing switch or entire panel) and recommeded the least expensive. Dealt with two different people for the inspection and then the repair -- both highly competent and professional.
