The initial sales process went very well, very straightforward and no sleaziness. The removal of old and installation of new was very professional also. However, the system had performance issues after install. The unit would cycle on and off too frequently; and the unit would not remember its temp settings. The cycling issue was due to the way the machine was designed; more knowledge of the unit and forethought by the vendor would have mitigated instead of exacerbated the design problem. For instance, a remote mounted thermostat would have remedied the problem, yet it was never mentioned or offerred. The service techs who came out to inspect the issues after the install were completely incompetent... in stark contrast to the excellent service up to that point. So, for their followup service, I would not use them again. I didn't feel adequately supported. Anyone can do a good job selling, and fewer, the install.. but the best test of any service provider is how they do later when there is a problem and you need help.

There's a reason this company is so highly rated. They performed the work in a professional way and accomplished it on time. They were happy to answer any questions I had and ensured everthing was working before they left. Just remember - after the intial visit to give you a price, there is a technical person who will need to revisit your home for the final inspection and make drawings for the installation. That wasn't originally explained during the first visit. Also remember to have the technical person explain how the furnace is going to be vented. Once underway, they decided that they couldn't vent through the wall but had to go through the ceiling. Once they had cut a small hole in the ceiling (of the furnace room), they realised the pipe would have to go through the window.....still they did an excellant job and would recommend them.
Description of Work: They installed a new energy efficient furnace that vented externally.

I got a quote from them for replacing my central ac unit. At the time it was not working and I asked about the furnace and whether it needed to be replaced. They thought it was ok but hard to tell in hot weather. They recommended just changing the ac. We had the work done which was done timely but a bit messy. The following December our furnace stopped working. We had been happy with them so we asked for a quote and a plan. They could replace the furnace next day which meant we could leave for vacation on time. Everything seemed fine until we needed the ac the following May. The ac was condensating all over the floor because it was now lower than the sink the drain line went to due to the new furnace being shorter than the old one. Someone should have known this at the time and had a plan. I called the emergency service due to the flooding and had to agree to pay an emergency fee as the ac was now past its warantee. When the technician got there and saw the problem he waived the emergency fee but charged me for a pump to get rid of the condensation. Now every once in a while the pump does not keep up and I get water in my basement. They claim the pump only has a 90 day warantee ut the issue is faulty system design. The designed my system and it does not work. The warantee should not apply if the basic design is flawed. I had to pay a fee to have them look at it because they claim it was past the warantee. I originally gave them a good review but now wonder how competent they are.

Sorry to hear you had this complication, neither I nor the service manager was aware of it. I agree with charging you for the pump, as you would have had to pay for it initially as part of the install if the problem had been anticipated, but we will (at no charge to you) address any remaining draining issue. Again, I believe since it was a night duty call and the service tech doesn’t have access to your file or our computer system he made the right call at that time by only charging for the pump. However, you also state “the pump can’t keep up”, this shouldn’t be (the pumps we use are rated at 20 gallons per hour), we need to determine what’s happening and resolve your draining issue, again at no cost to you. I will have someone from our office call to set up an appointment to have Scott, the installation manager come by.

It went very well. I got a number of estimates, and HAS seemed like the best combination of price and quality. It was a little difficult reaching the service manager, I wasn't calling at the right times, but everyone was helpful and friendly. The day of our appointment something came up and I had to be out in the morning, and called to ask if it would be possible to have the technician come in towards the end of our window. That was not a problem. Then I ended up being done earlier than anticipated, called to say that I was back home, and the technician came over just a little while later. That was great. He was friendly, cleaned the boiler, went over the system with me... All good. When I paid I forgot to give him the Angie's List coupon, and so didn't save $20. I realized this the next day, called HAS, and they have sent us a check for the $20. Yay! I'd definitely work with them again.
Description of Work: We had a technician come in to check and clean our boiler/heating system and to bleed radiators, all of which he did.

The furnace apparently had its checkups, but my two split Fuji Halcyon A/C units appear to have been entirely ignored. They have been spitting chunks of black mold since I returned home in May 2010 and are still doing so in September 2010. They were very expensive units (approx. $8,000) and they simply don't work as well as they used to. Even worse, I have sent emails asking for an explanation and - at the very least - a refund for half the service contract since they only did half of it. They have ignored my emails, and made no effort whatsoever to make the situation right. Between the leasing agent and Home Air Services, I never even received a copy of this "service agreement" I paid for.
Description of Work: In response to Home Air's explanation for its problem service: Mr. Boulin’s condescending response to my concerns was not appreciated. If he had bothered to investigate the type of units I have, he would have known that there is no filter in that unit besides the washable panel filter on top. There is no carbon filter which could have “disintegrated”, as he surmised. My request for a refund stands, as the offer for a free cleaning does not benefit me. Mini-splits are complex units and it does not appear he is qualified. Further to his response: Superpages.com continues to list this company’s email address as homeair@verizon.net, yet Mr. Boulin blames me for not calling him. Someone needs to tell him that that is not how most of the world communicates anymore. The fact that the tenant did not have a key was the property manager’s fault, not mine, so he should refrain from pretending he was doing me a favor. I still have not been provided with a copy of the “contract” for his services. Original complaint: In 2008, the leasing agent for my home, the Meyerson Group, strongly suggested that I get a service contract for the HVAC at my house, with Home Air Services, while it was to be rented for two years. The contract was supposed to include preventative maintenance checks for my furnace and air-conditioning, yet when I returned in 2010, it was clear the A/C had not been touched.

The reason members email was never responded to is because they were sent to the wrong email address. Our email address is info@homeairservices.com. A simple phone call along the way could have gotten this situation addressed promptly. With regard to the maintenances please see the list performed below. Although all the maintenances were performed the last time the Fujitsu A/C’s were done on the second year contract was Sept ’09, contract was not renewed for 2010. The particulates the member refers to may be disintegrating filter pieces. However, we would be more than happy to do a free A/C maintenance on them for the member due to the email communication issue. I hope this addresses and satisfies this member’s comments, I would be happy to speak with member at her convenience. The outdoor unit of our heat pump/AC system had been making a really loud rattling noise whenever the AC came on. It didn't make the noise when just the fan was on, and we couldn't tell if the fan was hitting anything inside the case. The technician arrived on time and was very friendly and easygoing. He examined the outdoor unit thoroughly, testing several different theories for the problem. As new homeowners, we felt he had a good understanding of our situation when he suggested starting with a low cost fix first (replacing just the fan), and holding off on a more costly repair (replacing the motor) only if needed. He also checked our indoor unit, provided basic maintenance suggestions, answered all of our questions honestly, and did not try to upsell us on additional services. He did leave information on the company's maintenance plan with us, but did not waste anyone's time telling us all about it right there, which may have resulted in a higher diagnostic visit fee. It may go against conventional business practices, but we really appreciated his straightforwardness and thought his manner reflected well on the company. Ultimately, my father brought his own technician to fix the problem, but if he hadn't, we likely would have hired Home Air Services. We would call them for repair work again.

On the Saturday before Labor Day, my 17 week old puppy chewed through the thermostat wire on our outside AC unit. A friend replaced the wire but the AC unit still would not come on when we turned on the thermostat inside. On Tuesday morning, I called Home Air Service and they indicated they could come out between 9am and 12pm the same day. Tim arrived about 10 am and within 10 minutes, figured out that the transformer was blown when the wire was destroyed. Tim replaced the transformer and put in a fuse to keep the problem from occurring in case the dog or a power surge destroyed the wire. Tim showed me how to replace the fuse and he even left an additional fuse just in case! He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He left a service contract for us to review for future service.

Home Air came out and provided a very competitive estimate the day after we called and were able to schedule the work within a week. The estimator was very helpful and provided a thorough explanation of what was needed and why. The guys who came to install the unit showed up on time, completed the work extremely quickly (in about half the time that was expected!), and even took care to make sure not to trample any of our plantings. They were very helpful to answer questions that I had and explain the workings of the new system. We liked them so much we went ahead and signed up for a service contract. Our house is nice and cool and the new unit is very quiet.

My only negative about Home Air is I called their emergency number several times over an hour during the night before I got a return call. It could have been more responsive. After I did receive a call and talking to the tech I decided it could wait till the next day so I wouldn't have to pay late night service fees. The next day I left a voice mail with Home Air and did not receive a call back so I contacted them again during their business hours. They were able to schedule Gemal to come out at 9:00 that morning. Gemal was great. He blew out the pipe to fix draining issue and installed a device to switch off my indoor A/C if the water level in the drain pan gets too high. The work was outstanding and the price was very fair. My only complaint is that Home Air could be more responsive to their emergency calls and voicemails. I want to note I have a service contract with Home Air based on the past excellent service I received from them. My last service contract back in the spring the technician recommended I install the device to detect a rise in water level in my drain pan. I refused the service. I know now to listen to the professionals because I would not have to spend time and money fixing my dry wall in the kitchen that is underneath my A/C unit.
Description of Work: My indoor A/C unit drain pipe was backed-up and the water pan was full and had begun to overflow. Home Air blew out the pipe to fix the clog in the drain and install a device to detect a water level rise in the drain pan and shut off the indoor A/C unit.

Needless to say I did not go with them or even get a quote from them.
Description of Work: I called about having a new Heat Pump put into my condo unit on the 3rd floor and the gentleman on the phone said automatically that it will cost an extra 600-800.00 as they would have to bring a crane to lift the new Heat Pump up to the third floor...they were the only company that said that...I was like what? What? I think it's pretty bad to get slammed over an introductory phone call, before you even get a chance to go out and survey the site for a free estimate, at which time this potential item would have been addressed one way or the other. The fact that we brought up that the member "may" need a crane on a 3 story roof top condo and quoted what it typically costs before hand seems thourough, I don't have a problem with the statement and really don't understand why the member did. It seems like sometimes you just can't win, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Our service window was from 2-5pm. At 3:30pm they called to say the repair person would be there between 4-5pm. The repair person arrived at 4:20pm. He asked for a synopsis of what happened, quickly went to work and found the problem within 10 minutes of his arrival. He then checked all the screws and wires in the AC fuse box with his special tools. (Note: He did not fix wires in the fuse box that contains all of our condo's power; he only fixed the wires in the separate AC fuse box.) He tested the AC twice before leaving and gave me a few tips for general maintanence of our AC. He was in and out of our home within 30 minutes. The repair man was professional, friendly but focused on resolving the issue as fast as possible. This was our first time using this company and we would use them again.
Description of Work: We called for service because our thermostat stopped working (its screen was blank) so we had no AC. The repair man fixed a loose wire in our AC fuse box that brought power back to the thermostat.

I was given a time frame from 2pm-4pm for technician to arrive. I took half day off work to be at home during that time. Unfortunately technician arrived at around 5:15pm. I had to call the company myself to confirm that technician is actually coming. I understand that different things can come up but it would be nice for someone to give me a call to let me know about a delay. I someone called I may have avoided wasting half day of my vacation time. Everything else went great. Technician's work was efficient and professional. He answered all of our questions and gave us several good advices about our equipment. I will hire this company again.

They were recommended by neighbors several years ago. I had used them a few times as my old furnace was faltering. The furnace died in the coldest week of January, and Home AIr came to the rescue as soon as possible with an assessment of the problem and cost estimates. They were professional, reasonable and reliable. I only had to wait two days for a new furnace.

It went great. I called them late afternoon during a heat wave and Tim showed up the next afternoon. The system had not been putting out very cold air and the previous company that serviced it told me I needed a new compressor. Turns out it was a leak. Tim found a couple of plastic caps that did not have rubber gaskets in them and replaced them with metal caps with gaskets, added some charge to the system and it is blowing cold.

Our central air conditioner among other things in the house went out when a lightning struck near our home. We initially tried troubleshooting to see where the problem was and it seemed like the compressor was turning on just fine, but no air flow was going through the house. We called Home Air Services and Tim came out on a Saturday afternoon on time to fix the problem. He was able to quickly troubleshoot the problem down to a faulty circuit board, which was probably fried from the lightning strike. I'm very satisfied with the service they provided and will not hesitate to call them again. Tim also offered very useful advice on how to properly maintain the heating and A/C unit. They also offer a maintenance program to come check out the equipment twice a year. I'll definitely use them for that service as well.

On balance it was a satisfactory experience but there were numerous glitches. The sales rep, Casey, seems to really know these units. The installation manager that he turned the job over to seemed less well informed as well as the installers themselves. One of the frustrations was dealing with too many people. The installation manager planned to have the tubing for the air handler in our dining room embedded in a hollow wall, but the installers insisted that they could not do this and instead ran the tubing on top of the wall from the unit location to the outside wall, about 2.5 ft away, which was unsightly, even when covered with a vinyl cover to hide the tubes.. The solution was to move the unit so it directly abuts the exterior wall. This left holes where it had been affixed to the wall, which would be a problem, were it not for the fact we plan to repaint the wall anyway. We had no problems with the other air handler installations. They had considerable difficulty getting the double unit to cool properly. We had two visits from technicians which did not solve the problem. Finally Casey came out and discovered that the system had been over-pressurized. He drained coolant and suddenly it worked fine. The end result is that everything seems to work OK. I have given Home Air a B rating because of their reasonable price and the fact that they never questioned our complaints as some service companies will do. They worked until they fixed things to our satisfaction. One other point: We had intended to withhold our final payment until things were fixed. However, the billing office improperly charged the credit card I had used for the deposit after the second to last failed visit to fix the cooling problem. When I saw the charge and called them on this, the billing person profusely apologized and immediately reversed the charge, explaining that she understood the problem had been resolved.
Description of Work: Home Air diagnosed our needs and installed two Mitsubishi ductless mini-split AC/Heat Pump systems in our early 1930s era Cape Cod. One was a Mitsubishi outdoor unit model # MUZFE09NA with a Mitsubishi indoor air handler model # MSZFE09NA. The other was a Mitsubishi outdoor unit model # MXZ2A20NA with two Mitsubishi indoor air handlers model # MSZA09NA and MSZA012NA.

Home air services did an excellent job. They determined that the unit needed replacement, at a visit arranged for repair. They arrived on time for the repair visit and provided good information on the new air handler options. The appointment for replacement was set within 1-2 weeks of the first visit. They made all the arrangements for the crane and completed all the work within a few hours. All I had to do was let them in and show them the A/C unit and circuit breakers. They mailed me the warranty information soon after the job was completed.
Description of Work: Replacement of central air conditioning unit (including the rooftop compressor) for a condominium unit. Cost included crane to remove old compressor and place new one on the roof of the 4 story building. Services included complete installation of the central air unit and a new thermostat.

The job was done quickly, friendly and professionally. Tim showed up ahead of schedule on a Saturday, after the appointment had been scheduled the day before. The A/C had shut off for an unknown reason, and Tim checked the outdoor unit, evaluated the freon level and determined that it had shut off due the circuit being tripped. He also cleaned the air filter of the main unit in the attic, which may have been the source of the trouble, and volunteered the Angieslist coupon discount. Would definitely use them again for my home heating/air needs.
Description of Work: Evaluated and repaired non-working outdoor A/C unit, cleaned air filter to main unit in the attic
