Great! Three times now we have used this company with excellent results.
Description of Work: This is the third time we have used this company. The first time was for an AC repair issue which was handled perfectly, next was a minor heating issue. We then decided, at their advise, to purchase the company's maintanence plan. For $476 we get our two-zone Heat / AC units checked twice a year. This past summer, after our first maintenance visit, the AC was terrific with not one single problem all summer long. I might ad our system is about 10 years old. Home Air come this past week to do the maintenance on the Heating side of our units and I expect the same great results. They sent a professional and kind Technician named Jamal. He arrived only about 45 minutes into the first hour we were given. Great! He was fast, polite, profession, answered questions and left no mess whatsoever. We are looking forward to a warm winter.

Unfortunately, the motor broke during the summer on one of the hottest days, so I ended up waiting - which I expected to do. During that time, it was difficult finding anyone who could come out quickly. They did come out to replace the motor - which took a couple of days to find since I have an older system. Given the unfortunate circumstances, I thought the time to repair the problem was reasonable and the cost was reasonable as well. The technician that did the repair was very professional.A couple of months later, I called them for what I believed to be a problem with the work that the company had done. It turned out to be a non-related problem - my thermostat was not working properly - however, they never responded to my call. So, I ended up calling someone else to fix the problem. So,while they did a decent job for the work required, they did not respond to my call when I thought there was a problem with the original repair work.I give them high marks for the quality of the work and the reasonable price, but low marks for responsiveness - service after the sale.

They did a great job. They got everything up and running. They were much less than a couple of other people I contacted. These guys were terrific. They came in the middle of a heat wave when the A/C crashed and they made time immediately to give me a quote. They were there before the end of the week to repair it. In terms of responsiveness they were incredible. My tenant told me that they were professional and they replaced more than what was in other quotes for less money. I was really happy because of the time schedule and when they got out there.

I was not sure what was wrong with my HVAC. The technician took the time to listen to my very unskilled explanation of what 'wasn't' happening, and then asked several probing questions. He never made me feel dumb to a problem in my own home, as contractors often can. He climbed onto the roof of my condo building in the intense midday heat and humidity of August in DC, and spent time orienting me to the unit before he easily found the problem - I needed to replace the run capacitor, as he showed me how and potentially why it had blown out. He was honest about the cost, which was $300+ for one small part. He was very conservative on charging me for labor, which I very much appreciated, considering how incredibly hot it was outside. He gave me many useful tips about basic HVAC maintenance, and I am taking advantage of those tips now. My condo association is having Home Air Conditioning back to our building tomorrow, in fact, to address what we think is a larger wiring problem creating by the original builder. Looking forward to learning even more. Their service was great from start to finish. Setting up the appointment was easy and friendly, and Carol even called me back once to try and schedule my appointment sooner when a service appointment opening became available. She understood it was mid-summer in DC, and that living without A/C can be tough. They were great.

Home Air Services made three trips to our home beginning in late September. The first trip was to replace a corroding boiler flue. After the first real cold day of the year, we turned on the boiler and the spring on our circulator pump snapped. We hadn't oiled the pump in years. We called Home Air and they looked at the problem and diagnosed it. They had to order the part so they made an appointment to see us the following week. They fixed the circlulator pump. Home Air also filled and bled all radiators in our three-level home. Due to the age of our house (built in 1921) , the relatively small circumference of our pipes, and the fact that we didn't have a downstairs drain, it took longer to fill the radiators but Home Air was very creative in getting the radiators filled. A more modern house would have taken less time to fill. While the radiators were filling, we asked our technician, Steve, about our water heater and air conditioning unit. He took a look and gave us solid advice and preventative maintence tips. Steve was very personable and competent. We would consider using Home Air Services again.
As far as I know, they aren't taking any more customers for oil-heating servicing. They're reliable, and they do a great job.

.It was no surprise to me when my furnace began going bad after having it for 20 years. One day in mid August 2011 I notice water coming out of the bottom of the furnace. I called Home Services and they came within a day or two. When the technician checked my furnace, he told me that there were definately problems that I needed to have fixed. However, I wasn't interested in piece mealing the repairs since the furnace was so old, and I asked them to give me an estimate for a new furnace. They gave me a price and sent another man over to double check if everything was in order, size, equipment, etc. The comapny was back in three working days to install the furnace. It was a father and son team (Chris B. and George B) They came on time and planned on taking most of day to complete the job. About half way through the day, I heard this horrible noise and my house began shaking. The two men ran outside into my back yard and once they realized it was an earthquake they became concerned for my safety. None of us had ever expereinced an eathquake before. Once we all realized the earthwuake was a 5.8 magnitude, one of the men went out to check my foundation. I would say that Chris and George both went above and beyond the call of duty as employees of Home Servicer returning right back to work to install my furnace. When the men showed me the finished furnace, I could tell they were proud of the work they did. That is something nice to see today. When the inspecter came to check out their work, he was very impressed with the way they build the extension on the furnace and did such a neat clean job taping the seams. There is something to be said of feeling secure dealing with companies that make it their intention to always do a good job. But on this job, they deserve big kudos! Catherine Pondozzi
Description of Work: I have had Home Services as my main company to service both my air conditioner & furnace for over 5 years. They installed my AC a few years ago. They come twice a year to check out both these units to make sure they perfom adequately before being used. They always call me in advance to set up an appointment and their service men are are always punctual, neat looking and courteous. This time I needed a new furnace.

I initiated contact online as it was after normal business hours. Kevin Moore called me early the next morning and said he could be at my home at 9am the next morning. He arrived at 8:50am, inspected the system and told me it was not worth repairing and that he would email a quote for a new HVAC with 2 hours. He did. We went with him after several other companies failed to respond to my online contact. The technicians, Chris and Chris, showed up on time for the scheduled installation. They moved some things around, installed the unit, then moved everything back. Approximately 2 hours after the job was completed, another truck picked up the scraps from the old unit. I must say, we were really happy from start to finish, I must have emailed Kevin a dozen times to ask questions. Either he or his workmate (Holly) responded to each and every email I sent. Usually within 30 minutes or less. The true test came after all the work was completed and paid. I sent Kevin another email asking if he or one of the guys would come by and show my mom how to use the new system. He did! Chris and Chris (I don't know there last names) both came early one morning, and spent about 10 to 15 minutes with my mom. For that, I would recommend Kevin and Home Air Services many times over.

I don't understand. This is a service they should be trying to get people's business. It is my money after all. Since when did this start being a negotiation. If they wanted my business they should have never tried to charge me $95.00 for a service call for doing nothing and another $95.00 for a diagnosis. They reasoned to me that they have to pay their men. Isn't that the cost of doing business? If they had done the right thing up front I would have gone with them but unfortuneatly I don't trust them now.
Description of Work: They were called based on Angie's list recommendations and were suppossed to go out between 12-4 at 4:30 they couldn't find the place and got beligerent with my assistant. I called the next day and they then indeed come out. They followed up with my by phone since it is a rental property. I was informed that, "Yes, there is something wrong with the airconditioning but they didn't know what because it was all frozen up and they had to shut it down. I owed them $95.00 for a service call and they would go back out tomorrow." When, I asked about following up they informed me that I would own another $95.00 for the next day for a diagnostic service. When I questioned that (was talking with the dispatcher) I was told that was the way it was. I called back and spoke with Terese and when I vehemently protested the wisdom of a $95.00 fee to tell me something was wrong when I knew something wast wrong or I wouldn't have called them she FINALLY said fine that if I went with them for the repair they would wave the second $95.00 fee. Throughout the course of this conversation I ask for someone in authority and was told that the service manager was not in (who is Therese) husband and that his voicemail wasn't working. I asked for the owners name and she nor the dispatcher would give it to me repeatedly. After threatening to go to the better business bureau, she gave me his name but would not give me a contact number.

The reason we did not make it between the 12-4 time frame is because Member (an out of town landlord) assistant gave us the wrong address! We were not "belligerent", but dealing, in my opinion, with an unreasonable person. We did not ask for payment for the first days trip of driving around and finding the home, even though it was not our fault we were given the wrong address. We did require payment for the visit the next day in the amount of $96.00 because we did gain entry and informed the customer the unit was iced up and we would need to return to do the actual repair once it thawed. We don't own the system, Member does. We did not install the unit nor have we ever serviced it in the past. The way this situation typically works (and usually without issue with our customers) is after the unit thaws we return to make the repairs at our normal hourly rates as if we never left as this seems fair and reasonable to us. The problem in this case is Member refused to, and has yet to pay us anything after the two (2) trips to her rental property, even though she said "send me a bill" which, after two (2) months, we can only assume she has no intentions of ever paying us.

After being on a waiting list with another company for 3 days with no end in sight, I called Home Air Services at about 10:30 a.m. I was told someone would come between 12 and 5 pm that same day! Sure enough, at 1:00 a technician called to say he would be at my house shortly. He showed up around 1:10 and was finished by 2:00. He was friendly, helpful, professional, efficient, and best of all, now our air conditioner is working fine. No one likes to pay for home repairs, but the price seemed reasonable, and we used an Angie's List coupon for $20 off.
Description of Work: The technician replaced the capacitor in our central A/C and gave a general check of the unit to make sure there were no other problems.

On the plus side the tech was very punctual and pleasant. He clearly has a lot of experience. He minimized the mess and cleaned up after himself. I believe the condensate drain in my house is not well engineered and it is definitely difficult to access. No doubt it was a challenging job, but I remain underwhelmed by the way Home Air almost didn't rise to the challenge. I think the tech was qualified but they sent him out with missing and broken equipment, and when he called in for more support he got nothing. Then the bill, which covered all the time we spend fumbling around with inadequate tools (they did not charge for time spent going to the hardware store) was shocking. There was no estimate in advance as this was an emergency call. Overflowing condensate was flooding my house. I want to like this company. They did a big job for me a few months back, and while they did not get it right the first time, they came back and made it right in the end. They are very good at working with the customer and keeping the customer in the loop. The problem is that the customer (at least this customer) has to spend too much time making sure the job is done right. The individual people are fine, but they just aren't very well organized.
Description of Work: A/C condensate drain was clogged. Service tech and I spent over 3 hours troubleshooting the problem. He did not have all the right tools on his truck. We had to go to the hardware store to buy a shop-vac because the one on his truck was broken. We had to use my drain snake because he did not have one. In the end he was able to get the drain working again, slowly. Neither he nor I have much confidence that it will stay unclogged for long.

We agree organization is very important, especially during this hectic season. We constantly strive to make operational improvements. I believe the equipment/tool issue in this case was due to the technician not being in his normal vehicle, using our spare vehicle, as his was in for maintenance. We appreciate your comments and will continue to do our best to serve Angie's and all of our customers. Thank you.

On Monday we spoke to Holly early and within the hour she had two window units delivered at no cost to us to use for as long as we needed also she said if we needed more just call back. Well with the heat and humidity we called again the next day and again they were delivered and installed. I can tell you this this company really knows how to treat there customers..they have top notch customer care, something you don't find too much of anymore. We highly recommend this company....Thank you Ivan, Holly and the team at Home Air Services.
Description of Work: Ivan came out and tried to fix our very old (at least 12yrs) He tried everything it needed a new circut board, probably refrigerant and a number of other things..He managed to get it started but alas it didn't last long.. He came back and tried a number of other things but it just wasn't working...Being that this was a Saturday too he really couldn't do any more....Kudos to him for trying to fix an impossible situation...He advised us that with everything that was wrong it probably would be better to think about replacing it. He gave us a proposal and told us to call the office early Monday morning and speak to Holly, she could have window air conditioners brought out until we could get our units.

I couldn't be happier with the service and repair from Home Air Services. I called on Monday and Tim, the service technician, came on Tuesday as promised. I was called 30 minutes before he was expected to arrive which was great. He came in and very quickly assessed the situation. We did not have the proper air filter for our unit which allowed dirt and dust to accumulate on the coil. He cleaned the coil, replaced the filter and put in less than a pound of freon. Tim explained everything to us as he completed the work, advised us on the condition of our current unit and what options to think about in the future since our unit is old. No pressure to buy something new. He also explained the advantages a yearly service contract would provide, but again no pressure to purchase. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely use this company again. Thanks Tim and thanks to Angie's List! Sharon Cecil

Very pleased with the service. Call was immediately answered by a nice man. Said he would call me back with a service date and time. Thought I would have to wait several days due to the heat wave. Received a call back in about an hour asking me if late afternoon tomorrow would be OK. Repair man showed up at 3:30 was friendly and very knowledgeable. Had the system working and was finished in one hour.
Description of Work: When the first heat wave hit my air conditioning was blowing air that was barely cool. Called Home Air Services and a repair man showed up the next afternoon. Repair man immediately found the problem, a leak in the piping where it connected to the outside unit. He fixed the fitting and refilled the system with freon. System is now blowing out cold air.

I left several voicemails (three, to be exact) over a period of more than 24 hours. Each message contained my name and my telephone number, twice, and the fact that I had a service contract. The calls began at 10:30am Sunday. Finally, at around 10:30am Monday (July 4), I got a call back. The man was not easy to understand because he had an accent. Regardless, I understood several things from him: I had to pay him, directly, when he came to my house, and he said the cost was at least $80 for every 15 minutes after the first -- I missed what he said about the initial charge. He said he was not responsible for the person who did not call me back for the previous 24 hours. He demanded payment from me, though I asked to be able to work it out with the office. He said that and quot;he was the companyand quot; once he was on the service call, but he was not the company for purposes of redressing the fact that I didn't receive a call back in a timely manner. When I told him he couldn't have it both ways -- either he is the company and is responsible for the whole situation, or he is not -- he hung up on me. So here I am, having prepaid for a year of a service contract, not having been called back for over 24 hours, and then being rudely hung up on once I was finally contacted, and after being quoted an exorbitant price. Needless to say, I will be asking for half of my annual service fee to be refunded, and I intend to switch companies immediately.
Description of Work: I have a service contract with Home Air Services. They serviced my two central HVAC systems in the spring. On Saturday of the July 4th holiday weekend, my upstairs unit stopped working. It was in the mid-nineties with high humidity and heat advisories. So, I called for service, per my prepaid annual service contact.

Our first duty tech, tells me he just got the one message on Sunday, but could not make out the phone number. He again did get a message on Monday and forwarded to the second duty tech, with whom he split coverage over the holiday weekend with. It is true the second duty tech has an accent and can be somewhat difficult to understand over the phone. Yes, it does cost more to run holiday service calls because we have to pay the technician’s overtime plus hourly holiday pay. Service is C.O.D. (cash on delivery,) which he is responsible for communicating to the customer upfront before running a service call. Yes, although not what the customer wanted to hear, I would say the earlier communication issue with the prior duty tech was a managerial issue, with the then payment issue was the second techs responsibility. We are happy to refund the unused portion of the member's preventive maintenance agreement. We apologize for the communication problems, but the second tech did the right thing by not running the call since the customer was not willing to pay at that time, and thought it should be run at no charge because of the aforementioned communication issue.
