The repairman was very neat and professional. He took up everything and when he was finished he cleaned it up. He was very attentive and tried to make it very economical with the plan. They agreed to come back to do another inspection. The person who came back was equally professional. It was really wonderful.
Description of Work: They came twice. The first time I had a drain clogged in the kitchen sink. Their company came and unclogged the drain.

Overall, the contractor who came out was punctual, honest, and very professional. I couldn't ask for a better experience.
Description of Work: I called Vito Plumbing and had a really good experience with them. We didn't end up using their services, but someone came out to give us an estimate about having some pipes inside the walls re-insulated. I made an appointment for Wednesday and it was completely my fault, but I missed our appointment even though they arrived exactly on time. I apologized on the phone profusely and they were kind enough to come the next day at the same time. Again, the contractor arrived as scheduled and this time I was there. He looked at the water damage from the wall, asked if he could go inside one of the condos that was above the water damage, and then went to the roof to look at the AC units. After talking to him about the issue, he said that he didn't really think it was lack of insulation from the pipes, but thought it might be that an air conditioner was lacking Freon which caused water to build-up and damage the walls. He said that he could open up the wall to look inside, but this would cost around $250, but he recommended that we not do that, but just get the wall repaired since there have been no new water damage, so he highly doubted that the water damage was due to poor insulation. I appreciated his honesty and expertise and we decided not to open the wall, but just get it fixed. However, if there are future problems, we'll be sure to contact them for any future issues.

"Gavin" was cheerful and personable and had everything needed to make my repair in his van. My condensate pipe had cracked at the point where it went through the basement wall, so he had to replace the whole thing. Gavin quickly cut and glued PVC pipe and elbows, and made a very neat job of it--looks much better than before. He waiting to make sure the exterior portion of the pipe was draining properly before he left. I was so pleased with the work that I signed up for a service contract so that they will come back and service my furnace and AC regularly.
Description of Work: AC condensate pipe was leaking badly, puddling in the furnace room and running out into the finished basement area and soaking the carpet. The first highest rated company I called on Angie's List was closed by 2pm on a Saturday, so I went to the second name on the list which was Vito. I was impressed to get through to a person immediately; a truck was at my house in about 90 mins.!

Until the July heat wave, we had been experiencing a moderate summer and our AC was working fine. There were a few hot days when it would take a little longer than normal for the house to cool, but it was good enough for us. Then the derecho and heat wave hit in early July, and we were among the million households that lost electricity. After our electricity returned and our AC began working again at the peak of the heat wave it was clear the AC was not cooling as it should (the unit was running full throttle and the thermostat was reading 84). We have a maintenance contract w/ Home Air Services, so I called the general number on a Thursday night, really wanting to get the unit fixed before the weekend. I was also concerned they would be busy in the midst of/recovery from the power outage and the crazy heat. I left a message on the voice mail, and sent an email. I then called the office soon after it opened on Friday morning. The person reported that he had seen my email the night before and would send a technician to our house in the morning. I had to go to the office, but we arranged for the tech to call me at the office w/ enough time for me to get home. The tech got tied up w/ the previous job and didn't get to our house until around 2:00. The phone ahead arrangement worked well - the tech was there when I arrived home. Once he got in, he went right to work. He soon figured out there was probably a slight leak from which we were losing refrigerant. He offered two options - run a test to confirm the leak, or assume there was a leak and put in a refrigerant that had some ingredient that would seal the leak. I chose the latter, which he later said was the right choice. About 30 minutes later the house was at a normal cooled state, and the unit has been working regularly since the repair from a week ago. I was really pleased w/ the experience. I especially appreciated their fast, same-day responsiveness -- probably helped to have the service contract. I also appreciated the repairman's technical expertise, quick diagnosis and action. It would have been nice if the appointment estimate were more accurate, but I was so desperate to get it repaired before the weekend that the delay was a minor annoyance.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and fixed problem w/ central AC unit that was not cooling our house.

I called when two of my toilets were backed up. Apparently, it is not advised to place kleenex down the toilet! Anyway, they were extremely great at getting to my house within 20 minutes of the call. I was told it was a $50 fee for coming out. I agreed. I assumed that would be applied to the services, but it wasn't' I had to pay that in addition to paying for the services provided. The plumber snaked both toilets, which took all of 10 minutes maximum, and then charged me $356. He said that there is a basic charge for snaking the toilets and that he gave me a bit of a break on the second toilet. I'm very happy to have them functioning again, but $356 for less than 10 minutes of work seems a bit ridiculous to me!
Description of Work: My toilets were both clogged and they came and snaked them out.

We take any and all comments very seriously and thank you for taking the time to post your comment. James Vito, Inc. offers upfront pricing specifically to help reduce pricing complaints. It appears that we scored well across the board except for price. There is of course a direct correlation between price and quality of company. We are very competitively priced for the DC Metro market and our price books are updated twice a year and in some cases certain repairs will decrease. I did review the work ticket and all 3 of the signature boxes were signed with no indication of the pricing concerns. Our main concern is that you were given the price upfront and not "after the fact," which in this case it looks proper. Also if you look at the ticket the it shows dispatched time, arrival time and completion time. Total time from dispatch to complete was 1.5 hours. It is important to remember that the cost of the technician and the truck (with materials) is only 50% of the cost to deliver the service customers demand and deserve. Lastly, should also mention that the technician should have offered a Service Partner Plan which would have entitled you to receive the Value Rate which is typically 25% - 30% lower than the standard price. We want every customer to be satisfied with our service not just the price. We will call you to discuss some options that will hopefully make you feel 100% comfortable with Vito Services.

I got the semi-annual HVAC inspection service, thinking it would be a good idea as basic maintenance. I watched them service the unit twice. All they did is pop the unit open, poke around a bit, and clean the black gunk off of the coils. The problem is that when the cleaned the black gunk off the coils, it just dropped into the condensation drain. They didn't do a good job of getting rid of the gunk. Instead, putting most of it down the drain. Fast forward a month, my leak detector goes off. My condensation tray drain had clogged and was overflowing. Fortunately, it overflowed into the water heater, where I had a leak detector. It's after hours, so I call their emergency number about the leak. I don't hear back from them until the next morning. They send a guy out, who says he can't do anything for another two days. He doesn't have the tools with him. So he charges me $100 for the visit, and I call a plumber. The plumber comes out, confirms that an and quot;unusual amountand quot; of black sludge had collected at the entry of the drain. He solved the problem, and now the tray drains once again. The plumber also says that it's not necessary to clean the coils, although I'd say doing it every few years probably isn't a bad idea. Twice a year is completely unnecessary, and you can do it yourself. Summary:HVAC service is (likely) not worth the money, and will probably cause water damage to your home by the time you notice the leak. They will charge you more to come out and fix it, let alone the cost of a new ceiling after the leak has spent days collecting.

We can’t say for sure, but it is possible the residual “black gunk” clogged the drain, as the air conditioner is by design a dehumidifier, and the indoor coil constantly sweats and drains. Our after hours response duty technician should have contacted you. We sincerely apologize that you did not hear from him. That is extremely unusual and we will research your service tickets, follow up and speak with our technician(s.) It is always a good idea to clean the coils (frequency depends on the rate of dirt accumulation) as they are the temperature transfer medium. Dirty coils reduce BTU capacity and increase utility bills. Most maintenance items can be done, for those so inclined, with little training, although certain items do require a trained eye. For the cost of most two (2) visit maintenance programs ($194-$244) and the bundle of benefits we package into them (No overtime charges for after hour repairs, 10% parts discount, duct cleaning discount, free A/C and heater loaners delivered to your home, priority services (missed in this very unfortunate incident,) etc…) I think they make a lot of sense for most homeowners. You have a much, much greater chance of a water leak without maintenance than with maintenance.

Chris and Duane came over this morning and installed my new Lennox AC unit. Really nice guys - they were very polite, did the job well, cleaned up after themselves, and brought a few important things to my attention. This is my third or fourth time having Home Air come out to the house, and each experience has been positive. Carey came over a couple weeks ago to give me an estimate and he help me choose the right unit for my place. He didn't treat me like I was an idiot and didn't make me feel like I was being ripped off. I trusted his expertise and he was able to answer all of my questions. This company seems to treat its employees well and certainly treats their customers well. If they had affiliates who did roofing and all the other things I need to overhaul this house, I'd call them. I appreciate independently-owned businesses like this one who still believe in real (sincere) customer service, not the robotic, scripted, "I'm-sorry-to-hear-that-ma'am," customer service you might get with larger companies. Thanks again to the whole crew. I get different employees each time (I think there are about 20 folks on staff) but the service is consistently excellent. I appreciate that!

Tech inspected the AC and found almost no Freon.. I was quoted $125 per pound to refill (later received a quote from different company for $90 per pound). I asked if they could track down the leak first and the tech said it would be like $300 to find the leak and then the cost to fix it and replace the Freon, probably over $1k.I asked for an estimate to replace the unit (built in 1992) and the sales guy came out within 30 minutes. They sent me an initial estimate for the cheapest unit (Payne - not rated well) which was $3900, so I asked for another quote for a two stage (Carrier) and the quote came in at $6800. Had another company (Glenmont) do the same process and he quoted the Freon at $90 and the same two stage unit for $5000, which included replacing my electric element forced air heating.

Excellent. The customer service was professional and called me one hour before the arrival of the technical to confirm the time. The technician came on time, was courteous and professional. He was not trying to do unnecessary work and diagnose the problem in a very pragmatic way. He identified that the issue was likely to be at the room and it would be preferable to look there before doing the expensive plumbing work. he took the time to explain

They did a good job. They were on time and they performed within the expectations. They are proper, clean, and respectful.
Description of Work: The first time they came out they helped with a leak in a condo under a sink. There was no hot water coming out of the faucet. There was another problem in a different part of the building. It ended up being a condo problem with the kitchen sink backed up above us. The second time they helped was with a bathroom toilet where the water would not stop. The replaced the innards of the toilet.

They were the only ones that could fix it. It was about 2 days before Christmas. We didn’t think we were going to get help till after Christmas. They found the leak which was the problem. We thought it was our upstairs neighbor having a leak, but they found it was our inside piping. Our plumbers that work with the complex couldn’t solve it which is why they called Vito. He saw what was going on and he fixed it. They were very good. I even recommended them to my daughter. I liked that he showed me where the problem was and why it had happened. All of the piping in our condo was done back in the 80s.

It took them about 2 days to get out and it was an emergency. It was really cold. Another year went by and I had another problem. I had let them know I Had renewed the agreement with them. They didn’t come out right away. The guy that they sent looked at the furnace and said it was the ignition switch and he said it would be $500.00. I went online and I saw the ignition switch online for $35.00. I asked if I purchased it if he would install it. He stirred for a minute and he said it wasn’t the ignition switch. I have found someone else to help me out through Angie’s List and they have done great work.

At the last check, I discovered they never checked, cleaned, or instructed me to change one filters that was located in area of the duct work. . I did not know about this filter. I was also never told by previous service man , that the person who installed the humiderfier did not connect it correctly and it was not working properly. I than learned that the humidifier was not covered in my service contract. Although when I took out the contract, I was told the entire system would be covered. I am very disappointed that I had my systems services several times before the problems where brought to my attention and that previous serviceman did not check the one filter, inform me that there were problems with the humidifier. The previous service people also flooded the area of my basement where the heater is located and left it for me to take care of. The last service person was excellent and if I received the type of service he performed, I would have been very happy of the company and kept my service contract with them. All the other serviceman did not do a very good job and flooded my basement.

Victor arrived within the timeframe specified before the date the work was performed. He surveyed the work to be done and gave me an estimate on the spot. He left to get parts needed for the job and actually went to three different places to locate the parts. His work was excellent and he described in detail what needed to be done and offered different solutions to the problem on hand. His mannerism was outstwanding and he was a very competent and pleasant person to have around. I would not hesitate to ask for Victor to do any future work for me. He is definiely a people person and very good at a service-oriented career. Congratulations to Vito Plumbing and Victor for a job well done.

My boiler was on its last legs and it was time to get a new heating system. I found Home Air Services on Angie's List, where they had lots of strong reviews. I called them, and they very promptly set up a free estimate. Carey came out, discussed my system with me, and shared my options. There was no hard sell. After comparing a few companies, Home Air Services was the best buy for the money. I would recommend them and their work.
Description of Work: Home Air Services crew came out (on-time) and removed my old boiler. They carried the old system away and installed a new one. They turned up my thermostat before they left to insure it was working. After the installation was complete, the lead (whose name I forget) introduced me to the new system, showed me my owner's manual, and told me why they left one of the old parts (compressor tank, I think) behind. After they left, I noticed there were a few bits and pieces of debris left behind, but perhaps this is par for the course with most construction work... Update since installation: Since having it installed, I did have one complaint-- I hear a 'thud' whenever the system turns off. They very promptly sent someone out, who very THOROUGHLY inspected my system (he spent more time at the house than I imagined he would). He found there was nothing mechanically wrong with the system, but there was nothing he could do about this sound. It is slightly annoying, but I a somewhat small price to pay for a furnace which heats all of my radiators.
