The experience was very positive. I received bids from the company twice - once in 2011 (when I did not continue on to replace the old HVAC) and then again in 2015 (when the old HVAC finally failed). Both times I was impressed with the knowledge of the managers who came out to review the installation site. I had a number of questions about the product in 2011 since I was at that time relatively unfamiliar with water source HVACs. Carey (the company manager) spent quite a bit of time answering them. Although I had fewer issues when I spoke with Kevin (the installation manager) in 2015 he was equally helpful. Kevin provided a bid by the next day - which was a definite plus given the January temperature! The product was immediately available from the distributor and the HVAC install was scheduled for the day after. The installation went smoothly with the installers particularly helpful when we encountered a site issue that was a little more complicated than what I had previously anticipated or alerted them to. They were a pleasure to deal with.
Description of Work: Installed a water source HVAC and thermostat.

They are very responsive. The technicians are great. The guy that came to do the estimate was great. I called and told him I wanted him to do this he told me he had surgery but he still was setting up the time to do the install on the phone. I would recommend them to friends and family.

They were highly professional; however the work took longer than they projected so they had to get another guy to come out. They were punctual, very nice and they went right at it. They jack hammer and digging was harder because of the soil. So they had to get another guy to come out and help. They told me that they could do it in one day. They left the manual for the pump but not the one for the backup system and I wanted that as well. He had to readjust the pipe because it would leak on the house. So I had to buy a hose because it was not provided. The original hose only came out about 3 feet from the wall.

Kitchen sink drain was completely stopped. Running the disposer would force the water down the pipe but otherwise it would just sit in the sink. I disassembled the drain and did not find the P trap clogged. As I do not have a snake, I used fish tape to see if I could find any clogs and although there was goop in the pipe (I only could get the fish tape to go about 3 feet before it wouldn't make a turn), I couldn't find any issues. I reassembled the sink drain and dumped a box of baking soda and half a gallon of vinegar down to clear anything else out. I let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then flushed it with a gallon of boiling water (by running the disposer). No net effect on the sink - still would not drain at all. At this point, I called Vito, who did some duct work previously for us and was recommended by a good friend and real estate agent. They informed me that it would be an hour to an hour and a half before someone could come and they charged $165 to come out on Sunday, which is added to whatever it costs to fix the issue. She would not quote me a price for clearing a kitchen sink clog on the phone - saying the plumber would have to diagnose the problem onsite. It would have gone a long way if she had given me a range or examples of costs depending on the issue, since I already had done some work. The plumber called and came out. He took one look and said he needed his electric auger, which was an extra $65 on top of the $340 to clear the drain (and the $165 to come out on Sunday). He spent a little over an hour augering the pipe, going down 21 feet (at some point I know it was the condo building's responsibility). He did not find any specific cause, but did find some grease in there. The sink now drains normally and no more issues. I think charging an extra $65 to use their own tool was a little obnoxious - especially as the fee for snaking the drain is already $340. But Vito did a good job and I would call them again, except I would not have them even come out without getting a price quote ahead of time.

They utterly screwed up the installation. They screwed up so badly that the whole system, which was an expensive central air conditioning system, failed completely in 2 1/2 years. Their installation failed and it failed out so badly when it went down, it completely burned out the entire electrical installation. Fortunately it didn't damage other things. I had to wear them down but they were willing to do all of the repairs without charging me and they finally agreed that the warranty covered it. The warranty would cover the parts but not the labor to install the parts that were covered by the warranty so the labor alone would have cost $10,000 to $12,000 and it would have taken four or five months because they were doing the repairs incorrectly. I ended up not having them do the repairs. I would strongly urge people to avoid them.

Response from Vito Services
Although the members comments appear to be somewhat incoherent, I would nevertheless like to respond with relevant facts as we know them…1) The installation was done on 6/30/2006, not 2010 as indicated; 2a) The air conditioning system we installed over 7 years ago was not expensive. He purchased an upgraded 48,000btu, 4Ton, Trane XL14 series outdoor condenser with an attic installed high efficiency variable indoor air handler for maximum dehumidification with new secondary pan with audible safety switch and digital, programmable thermostat for $5,450.00. As well, an optional state-of-the-art Trane Clean Effects was also installed. 2b) This system came with a ten year compressor and ten year manufacturer parts warranty on component parts, as well as a one year warranty on labor against defects in material and workmanship from Home Air Services. 3) Everything worked fine for approximately two years until one weekend we were called out, in 2008, and a technician found that a varmint had apparently gnawed through some electrical wiring in the outdoor air conditioning condenser, which we identified and repaired in 45 minutes. 4) Then, in 2011 (after having no maintenance performed since its start-up in 2006) we diagnosed and replaced a fuse and contactor in a one hour period. We ordered replacement parts under Trane’s warranty, eventually returned them, as the customer refused to pay any labor for their installation. The customer told us he was an attorney who was recording our phone calls and called our dispatcher some unflattering names. 5) The installation was and is just fine. The electrical problem was minor and was not of our making. I feel this entire review mischaracterizes all aspects of our installation. I have no idea what the last sentence is referring to, in reference to labor costs and time. I assume this is due to our asking for the labor portion of our repair, some four years out of our written warranty period. It was a very nice installation performed at a very competitive price.

They cleaned the system, said the line had been clogged, it was now fine and went on their way. $300+ dollars. About 40 days later--after $600 worth of repairs on damaged drywall had already been completed--the leak reappeared. When I called, they said they would have to charge me another service fee to come out again because the service they had provided before (vacuuming the line) was not covered under warranty. When they came the second time, they said there was a crack in the drain pan under the unit--which they had clearly failed to notice the first time. They charged me another $200 for this new intelligence and said they were going to be in touch about getting a new drain pan. They called the next day to say they were trying to locate the drain pan and weren't sure it was a type that was made anymore but they were looking for one. That was 3 days ago and I've heard nothing sense. So, I'm left with a brand new ceiling in my bedroom that is already being destroyed again--and still can't turn my a/c on. I called a new company this morning. My feeling is that when you do a job and there is a problem with it, your first reaction should be to apologize and do everything you can to make it right. Their approach was more about doing everything they could be make sure they would get paid for another visit-- very shortsighted and it has cost them a long term customer. The cost of the second visit was not so much the issue-- it was their attitude about the whole thing that really rubbed me the wrong way. Not customer service oriented at all.

Our existing water heater had developed a leak after 18 years. After getting a number of estimates from Vito and other recommended Angie List providers, we went with Vito. Vito was the only one that handled Bradford White and Rheem. At their recommendation, we went with the Bradford White (although they said the Rheem is also a good unit, they preferred B&W). Their pricing was competitive with the other companies that provided estimates. They were all about $1500 for the water heater install including the required expansion tank, permits, removal of old water heater. Vito offered to beat the other by $50. These guys were great. They called in advance of the install. They arrived on time with a brand new water heater in perfect condition (no dents). They said they looked it over before bringing it out to the house. The guys were extremely polite, helpful, and did an excellent job of installing. They cleaned up everything spotlessly before they left. The water heater is working perfectly. Job well done. I would definitely recommend them and would use them again for other projects.

About as bad as it could possibly be. They charged my neighbor more than $270 to clear her sink, and now refuse to take responsibility for the water damage and inconvenience they have caused me. UPDATE: I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO HAVE THE FLOORING RIPPED OUT AND REPLACED TO GET RID OF THE STINK OF THE BIOLOGIC MATERIAL THAT SPILLED OUT OF THE PUNCTURED TRAP. I PROVIDED VITO WITH THE BILLS AND ASKED FOR COMPENSATION. WHAT DID I GET? NOTHING. I HAVE TO SUE HIM NOW. BEWARE. Update: On July 5, 2013 I sued Vito in Small Claims Court in the District of Columbia (SC2013 SC3 003498). We settled on the full amount of my out of pocket expenses, $3,123.36. He refused to issue to me any letter of apology or acknowledgement of responsibility. Quite a guy.
Description of Work: I live in a condominium. My next door neighbor hired James Vito to clear a clogged sink. I was not home at the time -- I was in Pittsburgh for a funeral. The plumber snaked through the stack (and into my apartment!!) and tore a hole through the trap in my kitchen sink, causing whatever was in the stack to dump into my kitchen floor. The cleanup of the waste water damage has been an expense and an inconvenience. Call it trespass, call it gross negligence, call it utter incompetence, or whatever. The key thing about this company is their failure to own up to what they did. They have to date (3 weeks later) failed to respond at all to the management company or to my fax.

The plumber took off the shower handle, looked at the cartridge assembly and said the leak was not coming from there, but was coming from a leaky shower head. The shower head was new and his explanation (that the shower head was "holding on to water" made no sense. He turned the faucet off and told me to watch it for a few days. Although the water was leaking out of the shower head, the leak could be stopped by carefully "working" the handle (and not shutting it off tightly). It really was clear that the problem was originating in the assembly behind the handle. When I called to complain, and to ask Vito to send out another plumber, they did. That plumber took off the handle (as did the first plumber) and immediately saw that there was a gear/part (male or female part, I can't remember which one) that was clearly missing. We called the manufacturer, and the part was shipped to me free. I had an additional $48 charge to have that second plumber return and successfully fix the problem. The first plumber deserves a solid "F" and the second a solid "A" so I have averaged the two and have given Vito a "C." I will note that Vito calls almost immediately after their plumber leaves the house, asking for a review. Unfortunately, the time prior to this repair, I also had Vito in for a repair job and gave the guy a good review. Several house later, we encountered a major problem and it became clear that he didn't thoroughly check his work before leaving the house. Also called and had him return the next day. Although he said the second problem was not related to the first problem, had he checked he work thoroughly while he was here, we would have discovered the problem immediately.

They were great. They had a good rating on Angie's list and so I went with them. The also did some work for my neighbor. When I saw the truck over there I looked them upon Angie's list and said okay if the neighbor and Angie's list say that they are good, I am going to do this. They were not as reasonable as the other company, but their price was all right. They were very professional and they got the job done quickly. The guy was not as friendly as was of the other company, but he did his job well. What happens is, the office guy comes out, he takes a look and then he gives you the estimate, which you get over the mail. Then another guy would come out and take a look at what needs to be done, then they come out and they do the job. So they are very professional.

Called at 8:40am, received a confirmation call from Kenney at 9am, he was on site at 10am. Kenny was extremely professional, very personable, and a great example of superb service. Within seconds, he identified the issue and fixed it (call it operator error). Then took the time to go over some boiler basics, asked if we had other questions, then helped trouble shoot/bleed some colder radiators. He was extremely efficient while remaining very pleasant the entire time. Even my normally shy son immediately opened up and liked him.

They were very courteous and businesslike. They went right to work, fixed the problem. This was a problem with a leak that I had been trying to have fixed since April, a leak that several other companies that I had hired had not been able to find the source or fix. After finishing the job, they cleaned up everything very nicely. All in all, I was very happy with the service.

Initially the boiler was installed incorrectly and we had horrible water hammer (banging pipes.) I pointed out that the boiler was not installed to manufacturer specifications. They came back and installed it correctly and our water hammer is gone. Steam heat is relatively rare in these parts so it is not surprising that their technicians did not have a lot of experience installing steam. At the end of the day they made everything right without a lot of fuss and I am very happy with the end result.

I am writing this to warn other people NOT to use this company. I chose them because they were local, and didn't have many reviews. I like to support local businesses and figured I would give them a try. The phone call to set it up should have tipped me off; "Tracey" was short and curt when setting up the appointment. That in no way prepared me for the horrible service I was about to receive. "Javin" the tech was an hour late (one hour after the "he will be there in 30 min. phone call). I greeted him warmly and stuck my hand out to shake his, he brushed right by me and walked into my house. I started explaining the the sound we were hearing; he cut me off and asked where the heater was. I told him it was outside on the balcony. He went out there and proceeded to take more than one phone call-talking for over 5 minutes at a time. I again attempted to explain the noise; he scoffed, shook his head and said, "No, I don't think you are hearing that". Although he did not speak to me. He spoke only to my male friend that happened to be visiting. He would not even look me in the eye. I have NEVER been treated this way for being female. He spoke to my friend saying, "She doesn't know what she is talking about, I'm sure she is hearing a different noise etc." At this point I was so mad, I removed myself from the room because I was about to order him out. Even typing this is upsetting to me. To make a long story short; he supremely disrespected me; a single female homeowner, in my own home. He dismissed everything I said. He fixed nothing and had no suggestion for what the problem was because he refused to believe I was hearing the sound I described. He refused to speak to me or meet my eyes or shake my hand and only spoke to a male who had no knowledge of the problem.
Description of Work: I had been hearing a loud vibrating sound whenever the heat clicked on, so I decided to get it checked out. This was by far the WORST SERVICE I have ever received. I have been in the customer service field for over a decade and the treatment I received would have gotten someone FIRED in my previous places of work. They called to confirm my appointment about an hour before the scheduled arrival. I had requested an 8am appointment. They said they only do windows of time, but ended up getting there right at 8:30am. The confirmation call was especially helpful because this was in the midst of hurricane Sandy and everything was kind of in chaos. The plumber arrived, looked at both jobs, brought out a book and showed me their pricing up front. I chose only to have one job done. He was very quick and efficient. He checked me out and left. He cleaned up after himself.
Description of Work: They came for two jobs, offered me estimates for both and ended up only doing one. They are priced a little high. I would use them again, but would probably look for a deal or coupon if I had a bigger job. The estimate on the toilet rebuild seemed about $50 higher than normal. The estimate on the sink and faucet replacement came in at close to astronomical, but I believe that was partially due to the intensity of the work and the brand of the faucets. They were very punctual and professional.

I have had a service contract with Home Air Services for 2 years, and have been very happy with them in the past. I even gave them a grade A on Angies list. I don't know whether the company has a new owner or the owner just stopped caring. It is very disappointing! I paid for a service contract where their did not do the most basic maintenance of replacing the A/C filter, and ended up paying Home Air Services to replace the filter 3 months later (at their high emergency rate).
Description of Work: Ihave a service contract with Home Air Services to inspect and maintain our A/C and heating units. In early May we had our A/C system checked. I found out in August (3 months later) that the filter was never changed and the whole summer we had been using an last year's filter. Our A/C broken in late August, and the repair man with Home Air Services discovered the very dirty clogged up filter. Our air conditioning system uses an uncommon filter size, and I had special ordered filters, as Home Air Services did not carry the size. It turned out that I had ordered the wrong size filter. Home Air Service employee did not inform me about this and did not replace the filter in May, but wrote on the invoice that the filter had been changed, when it had not. 3 months later the A/C unit breaks down, I paid the repair man the high emergency rate just to refit a filter and change it. I called the owner asking for reimbursement for the $75 for changing the filter which should have been done for free under my already- expensive service contract. The owner did not accept phone calls, so I left a message with the supervisor (who was away on training). When I had not hear, I called again one week later and did talk to the supervisor. Home Air Services refused to refund the $75 and refused to give me a free spring A/C inspection, though they did not complete the previous spring's inspection. After some back and forth, the supervisor offered me $50 off with renewing next years contract. Since I am obviously not renewing the contract, as they cannot be counted on to do their work, I turned down the offer.

I was not pleased with the man who came out. He seemed like he was an idiot. The work that he did was okay but we had to call him back because he did not follow up on his work. When I called back, they sent the same guy back. He made kind of fun of my wife for being worried. We are going to have to call them back to do some more work but I do not want that guy coming back to my house. He arrived at eight-fifteen in the morning and did not leave until nine-thirty that night and still did not do the job right. I might use the company again if they send somebody who is polite and followed up on what they did.

Response from Vito Services
We were very concerned and surprised to read the comments from the Customer regarding his experience with Vito Services. Yes, the job required a bit more time to complete but in the end it is our understanding that the job was completed properly. What is most surprising is that we call every Customer after every job to ensure we have met the Customers expectations and if not we make every effort to correct. On October 22, we made a Quality Assurance Call to the home owner and documented the response which was "WO- 55408- Richard 10-19-12 finished late Friday night customer called back Saturday there was problem with shower head returned Monday and fixed problem Customer is now happy with work." In addition, I personally left a message with the Customer this morning to follow up on his concerns that precipitated his comments and ratings on our service. As of this posting have not heard back. What is interesting is that the Customer Post (giving us and F) was dated on November 1, 2012. Why the delay? We at Vito Services, are always looking to improve our Customer Experience and take these types of concerns, by our Clients, very seriously. We will make every effort to make the "Service Experience" positive. All we ask is for honest feedback so we can improve. Jim Vito

We are new homeowners with busy work schedules so we decided to call a plumber to fix a toilet clog on a Sunday when neither my wife nor I had work. Pulmbing work on weekends as we learned now is only good for emergencies, as the service call cost us 3x the amount on a weekday. No one mentioned that this was the case until the pulmber arrive and mentioned this fact as the first thing he said upon shaking my hand. Live and learn, however, we were still expecting to get the advertised Anigie's list discount (see below and on their review page). Instead we were only given 10% off the $190 snaking fee, rather than the advertised $50 from our total bill. After explaining the discrepancy in discount to the plumber I was told he didn't care, but would take the 10% off our total bill This $30 discount was still less than $50 but better than $20 so I agreed and signed the bill. Angrily, I did not check his math and he added up our discount wrong giving us only 20% amount off. Either he can't add or he was lying to me I know plumbers can often be crooks, but with an A from Angie's list we expected better. We will be calling someone else next time. Advertised discount: 1st Hour Free of Charge ($50.00 Off) on any Plumbing Service (*Must be $200.00 or more.) Actual discount: 10% work done, NOT TOTAL BILL -----UPDATE---- Vito called me back today and credited me for the service call. They lady on the phone was very polite and apologetic. We appriciate the personal out reach.

It went well. The plumber was in my area and was able to come quickly after I called. The problem was in a hard to reach area in the basement but he performed the job cheerfully and quickly.
Description of Work: Replaced leaking copper pipe.

"Leon" arrived right on time and got to work. He was finished well within an hour (I still had to get to work that morning, so I was very appreciative of the punctuality). I received a detailed listing of everything that was checked and done. He advised (as I knew) that I have a very old HVAC unit (26 years) but that everything continues to work well at this time [I think because of Vito's great service!]
Description of Work: Previous good experiences caused me to sign up as a Maintenance Partner with Vito Plumbing & Heating. Just had another great experience with them. They called ME nearly a month before the upcoming hot weather season to schedule my twice annual service.

When it got cold I noticed my emergency heat was on all the time. Somehow my outdoor unit got bumped and pushed off the base causing a leak and letting the freon out. Called Home Air Services who came out the next day. They disconnected the outdoor unit, took out the plastic pad that had been under the unit but was now warped and rebuilt a better base of stone. The unit was reset and leveled. They cut and repaired the piping connections, reconnected, filled with freon and then did a leak test. When all was completed they tested the unit which produced hot and cold air fine. However, the outdoor unit was making a vibrating noise. (It was 2 years old, installed by Home Air). According to the tech, the unit had been twisted slightly when it was pushed off the pad. The techs took the unit apart, twisted it back straight and added some screws to tighten down the internal fan and baffles. The unit is now quiet and works fine. Home Air did an excellent job. The lead tech Scott was very thorough and explained the problems and work clearly. I feel the work was done very professionally and they went the extra mile to realign the system to please me. Also, the price was reasonable for the great job received. I would recommend Home Air to anyone who asked.
Description of Work: Reset outdoor unit on new base. Repaired piping. Recharged freon. Leveled unit. Fixed noise in unit. Tested system.
