They lived up to their name and they were very smart about dealing with the plants. They know exactly what to look for and to tell me about. The question was, Can the tree be saved? The answer was no. They supplied me the answer and she showed me the roots, and I believed her. For additional charge, they did some other things in the backyard but the original call was for this tree. They tied together some branches in the backyard. The way it was growing, the tree would have problems keeping it. They were polite, they were courteous, they had all the equipment they needed, and they kept our appointment on time.
Description of Work: SavATree took down a big old tree that was leaving branches on my neighbor's yard. I didn't want him to leave branches on my neighbor's roof or my roof. It absolutely killed me to cut down that tree but the roots were really gone.

We are extremely pleased with the SavATree folks -- both their lawn care and their tree care services. While they may be a little higher than the other lawn care professionals in the area, the difference they've made to our lawn is worth it. We had been using some of the other providers over the past years and weren't really seeing any benefit for the money we were spending. We switched to SavATree this summer and can already see the improvement in our lawn in just the first 6 months. They are prompt, very knowledgeable and spend the time to really talk to the customer about what's happening. I would highly recommend their tree service as well. For years, we've been paying companies to fertilize and take care of our trees. We had one cherry tree that seemed like it wasn't doing well and could never get a clear diagnosis of what was happening -- other than it was in shock and needed some type of treatment (which we did). We'd had the tree for 10 years and it just wasn't growing like it should, despite getting it treated multiple times per year. Turns out, the tree was dying because the roots never took hold. The SavATree arborist spotted it right away and showed us what was happening. We ended up having to remove that cherry tree and replace it with something else, but I appreciated finally getting a diagnosis on what was going on with the tree. Now, we have a few new trees in our yard and are happy to trust SavATree with their care.
Description of Work: Scheduled lawn treatment as part of annual contract for service. This particular treatment was winter fertilizer and applying lime to the soil.

They were great and amazing to watch. This company does not use big heavy equipment but has crew members who climb the trees to trim out branches. The branches were then lowered down on ropes. It was a process that was very gentle on our trees and on our yard. Other companies that we talked with were going to bring in a crane and would have caused compaction to our soil which is not good for the trees. They ground up the branches and we were able to use the wood chips for an area of our yard that does not grow grass?.that was a huge improvement to our landscaping.

We called SavATree on Monday July 28th to take a look at a 40ft tree in our backyard. It was dying and had a large crack about half way up. Liz was able to stop by that day and determine that the tree needed to be removed and provided a quote. Later that day, one of the large branches actually fell and got caught on another nearby tree. We called Liz back immediately and she came by, again, to reassess. At this point we decided that it needed to be removed immediately. Liz was able to mobilize a crew to remove the tree the next day. The removal crew was on-time, polite, efficient and to my amazement was able to remove this dangerous, awkwardly situated tree without any issues. Liz stopped by a few times during the day to see how the removal was progressing and evaluate the other trees that were hit when the large branch initially fell. As it turned out, the other trees did not need to be removed. When the removal was complete, the backyard was cleaned up by the crew. When I went out to inspect the backyard, you would never know a tree had been removed. The cleanup was exceptional. The whole experience with SavATree was great. Liz was extremely professional as was the removal crew. I would recommend them without hesitation.

SavATree's service met our expectations. While they treated our yard, the weeds were minimal and the grass seemed greener and fuller. However, when you add up all the treatments, it gets a little pricey. But they get results. It was a little tighter this year in the budget or else I would've kept them. I would seriously consider using them in the future.

The work turned out excellent. They walked around the property with us, and we asked them if they saw anything else that needs attention, and they did a lot of minor things like trimming when they were here. They were a day late, because of the storm that we had, but they are really professional, and we really enjoyed working with them. They were really informative. They pointed things out that would be a problem in the future even before we asked, they corrected a bush that was leaning over, and looked like it was going to fall over, and recommended that they trim it. They didn't do anything without our permission. They walked around with us, and then they also had the supervisor walk around to make sure everything was done. They even agreed to climb up a tree to replace a bulb over our pool, but at the last minute we realized that it was an electrical problem created by the storm. They were willing to do that without a charge. Their emphasis is at saving and not cutting them down, and that is good, because we feel the same way.

I used the Angie's list $135 deal in 2011 and have had this company perform lawn aeration in the two following years. I have no complaints and my lawn seems to improving in that the grass is growing. (Before this I was concerned about erosion in my shady back yard).

I met with Liz to explain what we wanted to do and she walked around the whole front, side and back yard making suggestions on how to make the plantings look good. She suggested items to leave and items to take away so that I got the maximum improvement without clearing out too much. When the crew came by to do the work they were on time, friendly and they offered to answer any questions I might have. It was a great experience and totally painless.

Elizabeth Lingo was my contact person. I enjoyed working with her. They were prompt to come, did not drive heavy machinery to the rear of the lot but took the tree out little by little and cleaned up everything. A week later the stump was removed, along with another that had not been properly leveled before we bought the house and was preventing grass from growing. The quality of the job done was worth the cost to me. Everyone agreed the tree was dying. Pieces were falling off. I like this company's philosophy and would recommend them highly to anyone for any size job.
Description of Work: A slowly dying pin oak needed to be removed from my rear yard in preparation for some major landscaping work, including planting new trees. The tree was old and large and had lost part of its crown in last year's derecho storm. I wanted the stump removed also.

In April, they came out and injected the deep root feeding into the ground around the base of the tree. So we expected to see the tree start to revive. Instead, we lost even more sections of the tree. By May, I contacted Sav-A-Tree again and said that there was no need for further treatments as the tree was dying. At that time I was told that they would cancel any further work (which they did) and not charge the remainder of the contract and would come and remove the tree for us when they were back in the neighborhood. So I called and asked when they would be around and was told they didn't know exactly. Then, one of my neighbors (2-doors away) had them come trim one of her trees in late June. I thought maybe they'd remove the crape myrtle tree at that time since they were two doors away. But they didn't. So I contacted the manager again and have not received any response to date. We're going to have a pink dogwood planted in this area in the autumn. So I'll have the nursery from which I purchased the dogwood remove the crape myrtle from our yard. Very disappointing, though. So I guess I won't be using Sav-A-Tree in the future.
Description of Work: We contacted Sav-A-Tree concerning our Crape Myrtle tree. It didn't bloom last summer and looked sick. They indicated that the tree was infested with aphids and that they could do a deep root feeding in the spring, around April. I asked if they thought this would bring the tree back as we didn't want to start a series of treatments on a tree that was too far gone. We were told that they felt the tree could be saved.

SavaTree was very prompt and extremely knowledgeable and professional in responding to my request for information and advice on the likelihood of success in moving a 20+ year old tree. I consulted SavaTree based on a recommendation from a neighbor who is also a member of Angie's List and recommended them. I would recommend SavaTree to anyone looking for help or advice about a tree.
Description of Work: SavaTree responded quickly and professionally to my request for information and advice about the likelihood of success in moving a 20+ year old crepe myrtle. They did come and provide me with a free estimate for the work that I had wanted done. The young lady who came out was very courteous and professional. She took a look at the work and gave me an estimate. When I purchased this coupon, I purchased it with the idea in mind that I would only use it for the prepaid services. The work was not offered at the minimum level of $400 and they required about $750 in minimal work to be completed to use the deal. Although it was a very good discount, I was not prepared to spend money on the additional costs. I ended up not using their service and had the deal refunded.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $199 toward $400 worth of tree work. It was under my understanding that I would get $400 worth of work for $199. There were two things I wanted to have done. One was a small tree which had died and I wanted to have it cut down. It had previously been cut back by another company a while back. The second part of the job was to trim back limbs from two different trees that were hanging over the house and scraping over the roof.

Our experience with them was outstanding. They are tremendously knowledgeable. The arborist that was sent out to our house is phenomenal, and we are doing several other projects with them now too. There were additional charges. It was very clear on the Big Deal cost that it would most likely not cover the entire service. We called them within two weeks after buying the Big Deal to set the appointment up.

We went to 4 tree services and SavATree came in with the lowest bid. Russ was the friendly and knowledgeable arborist who explained what needed to be done and suggested other items that needed attention down the road. Initially it took a few calls to try to get in contact with Russ, but eventually he started to pick up his phone. It was a bit odd the office did not schedule the work, but the arborist did it him/herself. It would be more efficient if that process was done at the office. The day we scheduled service, they arrived a little late, which was expected during the morning rush, but they started work immediately. Three workers came in around 8AM and finished around 1PM. They cleaned any debris left on the ground and did all work as described. Thanks

We contacted SavATree of Rockville in late 2013 based on the recommendation of our Landscaper. I met with and was impressed by the knowledgable arborist (Russ), and his promise to be there whenever questions arose. Based on this experience we had them treat the lawn, trees and shrubs, and later signed up for an integrated program for 2014. Once we signed the contract we learned we had been assigned a different arborist, not the one that came to our house and the one we thought we had entrusted our newly renovated landscape. In early Spring of 2014 we noticed a number of issues with our lawn, as well as some shrubs and trees (tress look worse than they before SavATree took over). I first emailed our new arborist Giles Gardner sometime in late March or early April regarding the issues. After a week I emailed him again and after still not hearing from him I called the office. The extension I was given answered with a different name so I called the office to make sure I had Giles correct contact information. I was told the extension I had was correct, that the name given was of whom Giles replaced. I was forwarded to the extension, where I left Giles a detailed message. I sent two new emails regarding a service concern (chemical overspray on our stone patio). Again, nothing. After failing to receive any sort of response I called the office seeking to speak with his manager. I expressed my growing concerns over a lack of response, and displeasure that this is how our new relationship was beginning. The manager (Susan) indicated she would have Giles contact me. Within 30 minutes Giles called and within two hours he was at our house. Giles and I walked through the property, where I pointed out obvious issues. Giles was unable to provide any clear information as to the issues or how to remedy. Instead he said he would speak to their lawn care expert regarding the invasive, bulbed grass (I had to suggest he take a piece with him) that was taking over part of the front gardens and a corner of the lawn and would search the internet for matters regarding the shrubs and trees. These answers left me with no other conclusion but that he was either grossly inexperienced, uneducated, or not an arborist at all, or all three. He promised he would get back to me no later than Monday. I made it clear that I expected him to keep to his deadline. Monday came and went. Tuesday came and went. Wednesday came and went. One week passed. Feeling I had given Giles more than enough opportunity to prove himself I bypassed calling him to address his latest failing and called his manager to again express our complete dissatisfaction. I made it clear to Susan that Giles lack of response and his inability to recognize or identify any of the issues onsite was not acceptable. I also mentioned that based on at least one other Angie's List review, I am not the only client that has an issue with Giles lack of response. I told Susan that I either needed a new arborist or they needed to refund my money, so I could go elsewhere because this relationship isn't working. She was apologetic and said she would speak to her manager (Kevin Kraft). I suggested it might be a good idea for me to speak with Mr. Kraft, but was told he was not available, that she would speak to him and get back to me. I was told it probably would not be on the same day but but definitely the following. Well, tomorrow has come and gone and still no follow-up. I called the office after hours (on purpose) to get Mr. Kraft's extension. I left him a v-mail regarding the situation and encouraged him to be professional and return the call and better yet address my concerns. In conclusion, I can only conclude the behaviors exhibited by the "arborist" are customary, even taught by this organization. Do yourself a favor and find a professional organization to do business with, this isn't it.
