We had scheduled work with sav-a-tree but they cancelled us until the next day. Fortunately, the 300.00 big deal coupon came out. We are, and will continue to be, sav-a-tree customers, although reading the fine print on the coupon, this had to be for new work. I called the office and talked with them. That's where the frustration began. They went on to discuss the fine print details, and I discussed with them the amount of service we use them for each year as we live on a heavily tree-populated property. The woman said she would call me right back with an answer. Hours went by and we called our sav-a-tree representative directly (Eric). Long story short, of course we could use the coupon so we had a chance to save 300.00 and only paid $600.00. Only. Tree service is not cheap. The guys who perform the work are excellent. They come, take proper precautions for themselves, you and your property. They do exactly what you need or requested and clean up thoroughly. I'm so happy with the jobs they have performed at our house. I'm really appreciative that Sav-a-tree was able to see the incentive to let us use the coupon. Companies should consider their fine print in efforts of keeping existing customers happy vs.drumming up new business and potentially losing long-term customers. Kudos to Eric !
Description of Work: We had scheduled two trees to be cut and trimmed. One tree was along our driveway. An pine tree that had died, was scheduled to be cut and the stump ground. The second tree was also along our driveway where cars and children walk under. Two large branches of two very large trees were rubbing together and it was just a matter of time before one of those branches were coming down by Mother Nature. Sav-a-tree cut one of the branches to eliviate this problem.

I have used them a couple of times, and I am happy with them. They are pretty highly rated on Angie's list. They are going to come back because I need some stump ground, and they will be doing that. I thought their price was reasonable. They are very good about calling to let me know, when they are coming. I have explained that I have dogs, and just in case if I might be at home, but my dogs might be out; so I need to know. After they did their work, they asked me to walk around to make sure they have done everything the way I wanted it to be done, or if I need something else. They are not perfect; but they are pretty good.
Description of Work: I hired SavATree few days ago to cut down trees, lots of pruning, and removing broken branches.

Last year, the crabapple in my front yard was not doing well. It had a tent moth infestation and some type of fungus. The leaves were shriveled-looking and I was worried that it was dying. Although some people had told me that nothing could be done about the fungus, I had Sav-a-Tree come out and look at it. They did several treatments for the tent moths and foliar spraying for the fungus. They also sprayed other shrubbery in the yard that had a few tent moths, to prevent any re-infestation. The treatments were last summer/fall and the tree is looking much better this spring. Although it was a bit expensive, it was worth it to save the tree.
Description of Work: Disease treatment and foliar treatments. Tent caterpillar infestastion and some type of fungus that was curling up the leaves.

There's not much more to tell. Eric Clair came to our home on March 22 to give an estimate. They had been heavily booked, so I had to wait about 10 days for an appointment. The job wasn't urgent, so that wasn't a problem. Eric told me that he and his team would do the job sometime in the following two weeks (true) and that they would trim the two trees as noted above. I wasn't home when the work was done, but I took a good look afterward and it was easy to see where they'd trimmed and that they'd done a good and thorough job. They removed all of the debris they'd created, and even carted away a bunch of dead branches that already had fallen on their own. (I'd stashed them toward the back of the lot because they were too big to be recycled.)
Description of Work: I hired SavATree to trim two very large oak trees of dead and/or dangerous limbs. The trees are very close to the house and I wanted to avoid something large crashing through the roof or a window in a storm. SavATree worked on both trees to remove all dead branches that were 2 inches or more in diameter for the health of the trees and safety and removed all resulting debris. This is the second time I'd used SavATree. They'd trimmed a huge holly tree in my frontyard two summers ago.

We had a lot of damage done from a storm. They were prompt, on time, and came when they said they would. We are very pleased. I got more than one estimate and I am glad that I went with them. This is a company that wants to save your trees and not just cut everything down.

After I called they sent an estimator out to view the property and two days later a crew came out. They did the work efficiently and quickly. They cleaned up and wood chipped everything. They came prepared and had the right equipment to do the job. They were very personable and explained what they were going to do and at the end they asked if I was satisfied. I trust them and they are professional. Their work is what they say it is going to be.

The technician who did the actual treatments was excellent. He listened to my report of current tree/shrub problems & based his spraying on this information. And, he willingly obtained answers to my integrated pest management questions. The arborist visited the property to evaluate it & drew up a contract with a payment schedule. He contacted their main office to find out about special services for me. PROS Their technician was very knowledgeable & resourceful. The arborist quickly returned phone calls (but kept telling me he was too busy to schedule another site visit). CONS The company's main office, in another state, scheduled the technician's spraying visits based on when their weather conditions triggered disease & insect problems. The arborist complained when I rescheduled technician visits & told me not to ask the technician so many questions.
Description of Work: Trees & shrubs were sprayed for fungal & insect control. Unlike other local tree companies, the technician could provide some additional services without a fee increase. For example, a root fertilization and a tick control method were added.

The arborist came one day to give me an estimate. He arrived 20 minutes earlier than agreed on. He was quite a salesman, suggesting fertilization treatments and lawn service. I was only interested in having tree limbs cut and that is what Sava Tree did. We arranged for a day to do the actual cutting and the men arrived on time along with the arborist. He introduced his men and got the job started. They cut and chipped the limbs and cleaned up afterwards. I was very pleased with the results.

We wanted to remove the trees for about a year and received a quote quite some time ago. Due to family illness and other unforeen events, we had to wait. We would have had to wait longer if Dave Wesley didn't work out a payment plan for us. I contacted several other companies and the SavaTree price was in the middle. Dave was a pleasure to work with and his willingness to work with us made our decision very easy.
Description of Work: The arrived on time, removed 6 trees and took away debries from the back yard. they had to cut around a concrete knee wall and chain link fence and work in an alley. They also threw in a trim of a pine in front of our house.

The 5-man crew arrived punctualy and proceeded efficiently with the job, most of the time guided and assisted by the arborist who had submitted the original job offer. They were a very respectful latino crew, whose chief spoke good English. The arborist did not charge for the additional removal of a 12-ft cherry tree in another part of the garden. They left a tidy job site and I am very satisfied with the work done. The price was substantially lower than two other estimates submitted by well-known companies graded "A" in Angies List.
Description of Work: The top halves of eight approximately 20-ft high arborvitae close to the property line were badly bent by the weight of the snow that fell during the blizzards of 12/09 to 02/10, including one that snapped just over half way up and another that was left leaning at an angle of about 30*. The job consisted of reducing the height of all the trees to around 10 ft tall, trimming the top of the cracked tree, uprighting the badly bent tree and tieing it to the one next to it, cutting off all the dead branches, and removing the resulting debris.

I have a history with this company. I had used them in the past for lawn care and landscaping. There was a problem regarding the quality and performance of the work. They also claimed that I did not pay. I did in fact pay even though the work was not performed well. I have contacted my bank to get a photo copy of the check to show them. This was in the September of 2003. The president of the company sent me a letter of regret for the experience I had. Most recently, the arborist, David at the Rockville location said he would come out, but has not and I do not have an estimate.
Description of Work: I had contacted them to remove some trees that had fallen on my house following the storms in the winter of 2009-2010. They never showed up for the estimate.

It is unusual for us to pass up an opportunity to service a property, but we did declined this member’s request for service. She is a former customer of ours but has not had any work performed by us in seven years. Back when she was a customer, she had a very troublesome payment history, so we declined the opportunity to perform additional work for her. (Her answers to the “work completed” and “date” sections are not accurate – and they contradict her own commentary.)

They were very quick to send an estimator out. The estimator was professional but a little too salesman like for my taste. After presenting me with the estimate he tried to lay a sense of urgency on me and pressure me into committing on the spot. He was my first estimate, so naturally I didn't commit. After I collected my additional estimates (from other "A" rated arborist on Angie's list) I was shocked to learn that his estimate was literally twice as costly as the others. Not knowing much about tree pricing, but having common sense, I already had a suspicion that his prices were high. I figured that the scope of work would take maybe two hours. Twelve hundred dollars is too much money for two hours of skilled-labor. In the end, another Angie's contractor presented me with an estimate that was half the price Sava tree wanted to do the same work.

In our experience, when there is a large discrepancy between prices in our business it is usually not an “apples to apples” comparison. Typically a large discrepancy is due to significant disparity in the job specs and/or difference in the professionalism, license or insurance status between providers. People who do business with us generally feel that they have gotten their money’s worth.

There is a large beautiful oak tree in my back yard that provides much of the shade for my deck and yard. I am very attached to the tree, having planted it over 30 years ago and watched it grow from 6 ft. to well over 100 ft. Suddenly, in June of 2009, I was dismayed to see that the leaves on the branches on the entire front half of the tree were turning brown. I called several arborists for opinions. The first two (one of whom was highly recommended) had different thoughts on what had caused the problem but said unequivocally that the tree was dying and that the entire tree should be removed. Therefore, I was extremely relieved to hear Eric Claire of SavaTree say that he thought the damage was limited to the front of the tree and that if he removed those branches, the rest of the tree would be okay. In the worst case scenario, if he was wrong and the rest of the tree was dying, he could remove the rest of it later. SavaTree removed the affected branches, some of which were very large, and even cut some into firewood-length logs. They were careful not to damage my yard, fence, or new plantings that were close to the tree. I was very pleased with the work and, most important, Eric was apparently correct, since the tree is doing fine and looks quite presentable. Among other things, my experience points to the importance of getting more than one opinion.

It is understandable that this member would be frustrated about delays, since our applications were delayed three times, due to rain. Maximum benefit is achieved, for these particular services, when they are done on days when it isn't raining. Unfortunately we didn't communicate the reason for the delay to this member. In terms of "professional supervision" we employ only licensed, highly trained field technicians for service delivery. It is common practice in the landscape services industry for the arborist to provide the consultation, diagnosis and recommendations, and then the actual service delivery is performed by a field expert. Each professional has different training and licensure requirements.
