SavATree - Maryland & Washington DC

We had no problems and they were totally satisfactory. They were very polite and professional. They were very interested in not trimming too many branches back because of the impact it would have on birds and such. They were very environmentally conscious.

Everything turned out pretty good. I used them in the past and they sent me more information about getting more fertilization done. I found that they were willing to work with me and my budget. My lawn looks really good. Everyone has been complimenting me on it!

I thought it included de-weeding, but they advised me that it did not include. When they came out for the free consultation, he was very knowledgeable and professional. He wrote out all the plans and gave us a quote of $450 for the de-weeding, fertilization, mulching, debris removal, and additional services for about three hours of work.

The service was good. They have quality treatments and equipment. I would look for someone a little cheaper.

I called SaveTree last week on Friday asking them if the deal for "$140 for $300 Worth of Tree Service" could be used for stump grinding, for which I had already received a quote. They had come out and had given a quote on Thursday, May 10th. I asked if I could use this coupon for this. The person I spoke to said that she had gotten approval from someone and to go ahead and purchase the coupon. I purchased the coupon this morning. I called them this morning to schedule the job and was told by the manager that no one had asked him, and that it could not be used for this project.

It was the first I had used them. They were really professional. They know what they are talking about. They were great cleaning up afterwords.

They treated me well, and were on time. It went very well.

We first hired SavATree in 2011 to clean up extensive damage to several extremely large trees after a succession of record setting storms at my father's home, including removal of the enormous crown of a 50"caliper maple that was twisted out by wind shears and fell across his driveway and utility lines. The power company cleared the portion of tree that had fallen on the power line, but left the rest of the tree/debris for us to deal with. SavATree's arborist responded immediately to my phone call and put us on their priority list as the debris made it very difficult for me to get to the house and take my father to safety until power & phone service could be restored. After the initial storm damage was cleaned up, I walked the entire yard (approx 2 acres) with their arborist to assess the health and safety of ALL the trees in the yard in order to devise a strategic plan that could be carried out over an extended time as my father's budget would permit. This last work order involved selective clearing of approximately 1000 lineal feet of vegetation along the side property line, including numerous "leaners" that posed a threat to both my father's and neighbor's house. SavATree's arborist, Kyle Offendahl made a special effort to walk the property line with me and identify the trees that would be saved & benefit from selective clearing and pruning. He took time to discuss the most time & cost efficient way to approach the effort with a crew of 3 & equipment needed to get the job done within a two day window of time. He arrived with the crew promptly on the scheduled morning to begin work and walked the line with me, marking all the trees to be removed, including me in the conversation with their crew leader, Jose Ferraro. My father & I have a developed a very deep respect for Jose's skill as a tree surgeon as we watched him climb 60-70' into the crowns of trees to prune limbs; cut & drop the branches with pinpoint accuracy safely to the ground. Both Kyle and Jose checked in with me at the end of the first day and review what would be done the following day. Day two, Jose & crew arrived promptly and worked diligently to get the job done - they even went above and beyond to walk around the yard & pick up stray fallen branches here and there on the opposite side of the yard and run them through their chipper before they left. Jose made sure all was satisfactory before he left the site. My father, who is usually extremely wary of contractors, is so pleased with the care that SavATree has provided that he doesn't hesitate to sign the check when the invoice comes through and schedule the next round of work on the list of things to be done to care for his treasured trees.

They sent a rep out and he was very very friendly, punctual and accommodating. He told me that someone would get back to me which they did, they told me they would send someone out before the end of the week and they came Thursday. The rep came and explained to me what the other rep told me as well and the work went well! I will be using them for future services to my lawn.

From the free estimate to the completion of services, SavaTree/SavaLawn was exceptional! I have been recommending them to all of my neighbors. They are extremely prompt, polite and do excellent work. We had our trees trimmed yesterday, and not only do the trees look wonderful, but the workmen cleaned up the yard to an immaculate state. I had no problem scheduling a time for Sav-a-Tree to come to my property. I was not actually there, so they just mailed the estimates to me, and I believe I spoke on the phone with their representative after he visited. The estimate for the basic tree pruning was decent, and essentially matched what an independent consulting arborist recommended. However, in the course of the up-selling, they recommended a whole series of fertilizers and pest management applications, that would have run over $700, plus a comprehensive lawn care program (my lawn may not be perfect, but it's no worse than average in my neighorhood) that would have been another $1,000 per year. As I noted above, I brought in an independent consulting arborist after receiving the estimates from four different companies offering vastly different recommendations. The arborist said that the feritilizers are unnecessary and can, in some instances, actually be harmful to older trees because it can spur new, rapid growth in areas that may not be able to support the additional weight. Rather than spend hundreds of dollars on "biostimulants" he just recommended adding mulch to the base of the trees to help with mineral absorption. He also noted that there was no sign of any pest problems with the trees. Finally, the arborist recommended against using Sav-a-Tree because he has seen their pruning work in the past and it was not performed as skillfully as it should have been done. To paraphrase, anyone can wield a chainsaw, but that doesn't mean they're skilled at pruning to keep trees healthy. If I was looking for comprehensive lawn care, I'd think Sav-a-Tree would be an excellent option, given the array of year-round services they provide. But I'm just looking for work on my tall trees, so I will hire a different company for this work.

We decided to remove the tree (which was about 15 feet tall) as well as all of the arbovitae. We're very particular and worried that our front yard would be decimated by removing the tree and arborvitae. SavATree were excellent! They came and removed the tree and arbovitae without damaging the nearby plants. They came a week later and removed the tree stump. They were very professional. We're not easy to please, but we're very happy with the service provided by SavATree! They were very responsive.

I have used them before and had a good experience. They do quality work. They were punctual. They did the job efficiently and they cleaned up after themselves.

The arborist who came out was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about our trees. It was a pleasure to speak with him. He also gave us several free estimates regarding thinning out other large trees on our property, which we can't afford to complete at this time. However, the company did repair the tree that was splitting. They don't normally accept small jobs but were able to schedule a quick repair when they were in the area. It has been about 9 months since the repair and the tree appears to be recovering well.

The company is very responsive and they were overall just great to deal with. They sent an arborist to our home the day after we called and gave us a free quote on the pruning of a rather large cherry tree, so we could decide whether or not to buy the Deal, which we did. Scheduling was a breeze, and they did a terrific job on this rather extensive (and long overdue) pruning job as well as on the smaller trees in our backyard, and cleaned everything up before they left. We recommend them highly and are considering using their service for our front and rear lawn.

I used an Angie’s List coupon for the work; it was a few dollars over what the coupon was worth. I thought that the pricing was good. The work was good. They did exactly what I wanted them to do. They cleaned up after themselves. I was very satisfied. They actually called me; I didn’t even call them. They informed me that I had a coupon, and they wanted to schedule. I wasn’t able to be home when they were scheduled, so I rescheduled, and they were fine with that. They were punctual. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

The overall job went well. The arborist that I worked with was very professional. They were on time as far as meeting. The work was done 99.9% as agreed but they didn’t do one thing. They were little expensive for the amount of work done but they go by a base line number. I had a coupon and I don’t know how other companies would have charged.

I thought they were very decent. The guy that came out was very professional. I would use them in the future, if I had the opportunity.

They came out and did it on the correct day. We were not there, but the grass is growing. They did a good job. I would recommend them and would use them again.

When the serviceman first came out to evaluate the service needed, he was very nice and professional. However, I specifically made a special call to the company to request that I be notified when they were going to come out as I wanted to be present to be sure that the correct trees were fertilized since I was not doing my whole yard. This request is noted in their records. However, I came home yesterday to find a card in the door saying that they had fertilized my trees AND SHRUBS (which were NOT supposed to be fertilized) and no advance warning had been given. So I have no idea what was actually done, which trees were done, how much was actually put on, whether the amount of fertilizer was wasted on shrubs, etc.. When I called to complain, I was told that yes they did have a note saying I wanted to be there and that they were sorry they had not followed it. The lady insisted that the person who came out knew to do only two trees since the $75 covered only a certain amount of fertilizer, but since the card says that both trees AND shrubs were done, I am sure she has no idea what exactly was done. The fact that that was written in the original service order means nothing since my request to be here was ALSO written in their records! I am very unhappy with their service and would not use them again.

They will be doing the Lyman’s fertilization also. I used the coupon from Angies List for $135 too. I have recommended them to many people. Over all they really did not itemize their rates. I had to go to their office several times. They charged me $535 for core aeration, overseeding and Lyman’s fertilization.

They charged me $3000 for their services. It was a 40-inch diameter tree in the front yard over our power lines. They sent a crew of three out with a crane. It took all day, which was expected. Kelly was the arborist who came to my house and he was superb. I would highly recommend Kelly, but I had some problems with the crew. The crew had a disagreement. There were two Mexican guys and a Caucasian gentleman. I speak Spanish; so I could understand the Spanish part and of course I could understand the English part as well. However, there was definitely tension among the crew and it made me very uncomfortable because this huge tree was over our house as well as over the power lines. I have a one year old and I wanted them to focus on the task at hand and not the fighting between them. So, I mentioned that to Kelly. He minimized it. He said that it wasn’t a big deal and that happens sometimes. Eventually, I went and sat on the curb on the other side of the street because I didn’t want anything to fall on our house when my little boy and I were in there. However, the crew was very nice to me and very kind, but there was definitely fighting among themselves. They removed everything and cleaned up afterwards. The $3000 didn’t include stump removal. They wanted to charge me $600 for that and I opted not to do that. The landscaper that I used came and removed it for $150. I would consider using them again, but I would hesitate. I might do some more searching.

They have been very informative and knowledgable. They have been very responsive. I thought that I had an insect problem and they were able to confirm that. They suggested all my treatement options. I really appreciated that they did not try to upsell me. I did, however, chose to purchase an upgrade.

The arborists (I've spoken to two, but their names escape me right now) are extremely knowledgeable and professional, explaining how they were going to do the work, why certain limbs needed to be trimmed and how, as well as answering some general tree care questions I had about other trees on my property which did not need work. The job was done while I was at work, so I can't speak to their to-the-minute punctuality, but it was completed on the day scheduled, and all debris was removed and the yard was left very tidy. The only downside to Sav-a-Tree is that their prices tend to be a bit on the high side. For rather routine jobs where aesthetics or damage to the tree or other nearby trees, is not an issue, I often go with low bid - often local guys, though i have also had good luck with Atlas Tree in VA.

We are very pleased about the new looks on both trees and our yard looks much better now. Eric's crew are professional and their work is detailed: they clean up all the derbies entirely. Besides their professionalism, one thing worth pointing out is they give great recommendations. As compared to the company we used last time, they really know what works best for our yard and we feel their work is tailor for us, not a cookie cutter. Price wise, we used the coupon on Angies of $140 for $300 and the total out of pocket of expense is $340. We definitely feel we get more than what we are paying for. We give thumbs up and highly recommend Eric and his crew.
