The technical person was exceptionally knowledgeable. He insured everything was accounted for on his quote and provided many details. The quote was very competitve and explained things well. All folow up questions were answered fully and promptly. It was an enjoyable experience and made my choice to go with another company very difficult.
Description of Work: A technical perosn came out to quote on a new A/C system. They thorughly reviewed the whole house and the system to be replaced. They went through in detail all the aspects of the current system and the improvements they could provide. The compnay was very well represented and I was very impressed. I recieved the quote as ageed upon.

The services provided by Glenmont could not have been better. What a house inspector told me would probably be a several thousand dollar replacement project, instead became a much less costly endeavor with Glenmont's technical expertise. The estimator who came to assess the project was friendly and professional. I was emailed an estimate the next day. The technicians who performed the actual work, Calvin and Matthew, were professional, friendly, and took time to explain the work they did. I'll definitely use their energy audit services and will consult them for future HVAC projects. Thanks!
Description of Work: Technicians from Glenmont replaced an HVAC vent for an upstairs system and rerouted it from the chimney through the roof. Two manual thermostats were replaced with programmable units. A technician tested a compressor I thought was not working well.

Don showed up, nice enough and professional in appearance. I describe the problem and what we are trying to resolve. Don gives me some information on what he's going to and explains some about how AC works. He checks the attic unit and determines there is a leak in the coil. He tells me alot about the unit and how it works. We are discussing the merits of insulation and upgrading to a larger unit and he gives me a ball park. We head outside for the outside unit and he tells me that the two outside units are too close to each other, the the surrounding fence and house. He charges the unit with the R-22 and we talk more about AC and how it works. Here is my friendly advice, go wiki how AC works, let them work and dont bother them. If they explain stuff to you as they go, they are going to charge you for it. For 1 hour 15 minutes, i was charged 215 plus a 15 charge to show up. Then they charged me $90 per pound for the R-22 stuff. $360 later, i'm looking at a $590 bill feeling violated. Feeling violated, i called three other highly rated angieslist AC pros to ask how much they charged per pound of this magical R-22. One charges $55 per pound, one changed $65 per pound and one was a flat $289 flat fee. All at least $70 less than what i was charged. The last injustice was i didnt receive my 5% off that i had from angieslist. i know he saw the coupon, he commented on it being an angieslist coupon. Overall, did Glenmont do what i asked, sure. Was i overcharged by my estimation 30% or so, absolutely. Buyer beware.
Description of Work: Determine the cause of my AC woes (blowing warm air, not cooling) and suggest give options for resolving the issue. Recharge with R-22 refrigerant.

The people I talked to at Glenmont to discuss the work and schedule it were very responsive. The manager Greg hesitated to take the job at first, and he quoted me $180/hr, which is quite high. After talking with me a bit, he agreed to take the job. When the two technicians arrived, they told me the rate was $150/hr, which is more or less standard in this area. I'm not sure whether I misheard Greg or he misspoke, or whether he was attempting to charge me a higher rate, as I had a difficult job and was without heat in November. The two technicians worked efficiently and handled well the setback of finding one set of vertical pipes too short. They realized at one point, however, that they were out of pipe dip. They had to leave for half an hour to buy some more. They said they wouldn't charge me for that time, but at the end they added a suspicious "miscellaneous charge" of $75, exactly the cost of half an hour of labor. They said they couldn't explain the charge at the time of service, that it had come from the central office. I called the central office the following week. After a few phone calls back and forth with no answer, some one called me back with an explanation of the charge, saying it had to do, I believe, with cutting the new pipes. Again, I'm not sure I believe that explanation. The work was good and the technicians were courteous and professional. I strongly suspect, however, that there was some attempt at unfair manipluation of the price.
Description of Work: They reinstalled 3 radiators. Two of the radiators had new pipes in place, so they had to cut them to attach the old joints and valves. The third one was in the newly renovated bathroom, where the level of the floor is now higher than before. They had to remove the old vertical pipes and cut new, longer ones. After connecting the radiators, they refilled the system and started up the boiler.

The repair service went great. I'm very pleased with the overall service provided. A capacitor needed replacing. Don knew what the problem was almost immediately. He had the problem fixed and the A/C unit operational within minutes.
Description of Work: My downstairs A/C unit stopped functioning. I noticed only warm air coming out of the vents and the outside fan was not working although I heard a hum.. I called Glenmont in the morning of 9/12/11 just after their office opened. They scheduled service for me that same afternoon. Don came out and within minutes after explaining the symptoms he knew what the problem was. A capacitor went bad. He had the capacitor replaced in minutes and the problem resolved. We fired up the unit and double checked to be sure the unit was blowing the required air temperature. Don took the time to answer any questions I had and even seemed to enjoy drawing pictures to show how a capacitor works. He also spent the time to explain to me why it would be a good idea to consider a maintenance plan although he was not pressuring me to consider one. All in all I was very pleased with the service that Glenmont provided. I used Glenmont to install my current A/C units several years ago and I'd obviously use them again for any service I need.

I had been dreading the replacement of my furnace and AC. To qualify for the Pepco rebate I needed to choose a company from an approved list on the Maryland State energy page. I found 4 companies that service the Silver Spring area and got estimates from 2. Both companies (James Wheat was the other) did a good job of inspecting my house and explaining the choices of makes and models. Both identified Carrier as a top choice. There was a couple of thousand dollars difference between their quotes for the same equipment and work! I In addition, Glenmont is offering a 5% discount ! After talking on the phone with Greg, the company's president, I decided to use Glenmont. The conversation confirmed for me a feeling of trust with this company. The installers came as scheduled. They reviewed the job with me and then set to work. For the new thermostat, they were glad to change its location from inside a room to the other side of the wall . They also made sure I knew how to change the settings. I had been told that the job could carry over to the next day, which it did. They cleaned up completely and took all trash with them each day. I'm glad I chose Glenmont, and after the warranty period, I plan to setup a service contract with them
Description of Work: My 1969 gas furnace and 1992 central AC unit was replaced with a 95% efficient furnace and a 17 SEER rated AC unit from Carrier. The flue system for the furnace had to be replaced as well.

Old system had conked out and the service tech recommended a replacement rather than a repair since the heat exchangers were cracked and the AC blower was shot. The service tech sat with me for a while and explained the different systems and ratings, and what he would do if he were in my shoes. Then the installation team was on-time, professional, informative, plus they cleaned up after themselves. New system was installed in a day.

Greg and Kyle were extremely thorough. They spent close to four hours at my home going over all the potential sources of energy leaks. It was an informative audit. They shared DIY tips. A week or two later, they provided a comprehensive report with many details. I would highly recommend Greg and Kyle for an energy audit.

As a new homeowner whose heat worked during the inspection, I was surprised when my heater didn't work when the temperature turned colder. Then I remembered that they did work on a bathroom floor which required them to remove and reinstall the radiator, however, the plumbers did not return the heating system to working condition. It got pretty cold and the heating companies were busy. I called several companies with good ratings on Angie's List. Glenmont was the first to return my call and was able to get someone out the next day. I forget the name of the repairman, but he was awesome. I explained that I was a new homeowner and wanted to learn everything I could about the heating system. He taught me so much, and even included pop quizzes! My boiler is not the easiest to reach and the pilot light was stubborn, but he got it without complaint. Everything is in perfect working order and the heat is fabulous. I would without a doubt recommend them. I will certainly use them in the future.
Description of Work: Thorough examination of heating system after renovations. Included filling radiators with water, lighting pilot light and general maintenance.

A technician and an assistant who seemed to be an apprentice arrived at 10 am. I left them in the house with access to the roof and returned at 12:45 PM, 2 hours and forty five minutes later, substantially less than the "full day" I was told it would take. I was billed the full $1200 estimated and complained by phone about the amount. I was told that the president, Brian Schindel, said that the work was done as defined by the estimate and that they would not reduce my bill. I sent a lengthy explanation with a letter and payment in the form of two checks which, together, totalled the amount on the invoice. I gave Mr. Schindel the opportunity to cash the larger check for $760 (an amount I deemed more than adequate for work done) and return the lesser check to me. He deposited both and wrote me a letter miss-stating by 2 hours the amount of time the workmen were at my house. He also said they had installed a $125 thermostat. THe specific unit they installed can readily be found online for $26.25. I find Glenmont's hourly rate of $160/hr, their over-estimating of time required to do a job, and their 500% mark-up unconscionable.
Description of Work: On first visit, serviceman said my A/C unit was quite dirty, coils were frozen and needed to be cleaned and the drain pan cleaned. He said that he would have to remove ductwork from the unit in order to access the parts. Also said there was mold which needed to be removed. He tried to convince me to replace the entire unit for $9000 but since it is only 10 years old I did not agree to replacement. The company gave me an estimate of $1200 to have one serviceman return and do the clean up work, reseal the unit and replace my old thermostat.

Crew spent all day to ensure installation was complete and done professionally and to ensure a quality job. The difference between my old system and new was incredible. The install crew was efficient and friendly and their attention to detail was appreciated—rerouting the condensate drain around the back of the unit rather and across the front which would make changing the air filter difficult. Am considering using them again currently

Interaction with Glenmont was one of the most pleasant and productive professional interactions we had. It all started with a simple service call when they informed us that our furnace has failed. Our initial thought was "sure, this is just a service sell". Little did we know... During next few months we had 4 different quotes and Glenmont was the most responsive, ready to answer all technical questions, working with us to put the system configuration we wanted, doing job on time, and leaving us... with a sparkling new furnace and a ductwork to accommodate all system components. They did not try to sell us extra components, we actually had to ask them to put that coil in. (I almost wish they had been more forceful with this) They did not sell us expensive support contract. We have to thank Bonnie for smooth communication, Greg for working out the order details, and install crew working past regular hours to fit everything in our small space. Important to mention: Glenmont has its own metal shop and it is priceless if you need slightly customized ductwork. We also feel they really care.
Description of Work: Installed new furnace, interior AC coil, whole house filter and humidifier. Modified ductwork.

They have been reliable so they have been satisfactory. I can't tell you that they've been excellent but they have been satisfactory so I continue to use them. Their technician seems to be fine. I don't know how they rate price wise but it's about 300 dollars for the service contract for two times a year with two zones and humidifier, you know, everything has an extra charge. Actually, this last time the punctuality was A; they said they'd be here between 10 or 12 and they were knocking on the door at 10 o'clock.

Extremely unpleasant and very stressful.
Description of Work: Called to service my boiler before turning the heat on. The company that usually does the service could not do it for another week. I found this company on Angie list that could do it the next day. They send someone who seemed not familiar with my heating system and was proceeding to do the job in a reckless way. I asked him questions he got irate and raised his voice so I called the company and asked them for him to stop work on my heat. There was strong gas odor so I called the gas company to check. Fortunately there was no leak. I will be contesting the charge.

I moved into my new house Saturday night, and the heat was not working. I called Glenmont (the last contractor to service the system) on Sunday night and they asked if it was an emergency, I said no, but they would have sent someone right away. My call was returned at 7:30 am on Monday, and two service people arrived at my home by 9:30. They went right to work, it took 1 hour. They explained the problem to me, showed me the broken part, and replaced it from supplies they had on hand. They were done quickly and professionally. Great to deal with.
Description of Work: Heater had stopped working, Glenmont sent a technician out right away and replaced the electric igniter and filter.
