Based on reviews on Angie's List, I contacted Central Roofing and Siding for an estimate to have the gutters and downspouts on the back of my two-story home repaired or replaced. They were loose and frequently got clogged because of the many large trees in our backyard. I received a written estimate (without a prior phone call for an appointment) from Bernie at Central, who gave quotes for standard-sized gutters and for 6-inch gutters. But the quote was for the front and back of the house combined, and I only wanted the rear done. I contacted Bernie, and after some initial confusion, he said he'd redo the estimate. I received a second estimate, this time for the front and the back of the house, but with the price for each separate (Bernie had forgotten which side of the house I wanted done). I contacted Bernie again, emphasized that I only wanted the rear of the house done, and we settled on the price as quoted for 6-inch gutters, with the two of us revising the contract by hand over the phone. I mailed the revised contract back to Central and then went on vacation about 5 days later, still not having heard anything further from Bernie/Central. About 10-14 days later, after returning from vacation and in the midst of a gulley-washer of a thunderstorm, I looked outside to check the performance of my crummy old gutters/downspouts. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that my creaky, leaky, loose and drippy gutters had been replaced, as if by magic! Apparently, the Central crew had come out to our house unannounced while we were out of town and done the work, without even leaving a note... Obviously, the bill for the work eventually showed up, and we gladly paid. Despite the unconventional approach to informing its customers, we are very satisfied with the exceptional work that Central did in replacing our old gutters and downspouts.
Description of Work: Replaced rear gutters and downspouts on two-story home.

The entire experience was a pleasure. Terry Greenberg came to consult with us about our needs, describe our options, and assess the job so that he could provide an estimate. He was professional, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He provided a _very_ thorough explanation of the specific work that would be involved (beyond just new shingles), the materials that would be used, and the benefits of his company's method. When the tentative start date had to be pushed back due to inclement weather, Terry was reliable about keeping us informed and ensuring that we would not be inconvenienced in any way. The workers arrived promptly, were professional, and treated our children kindly when they wanted to watch the proceedings. Although we had discussed replacing skylights with Terry during the initial consultation, my husband and I realized halfway through the first work day that we had never followed up on that issue, and we had signed the contract without realizing the windows weren't included. Although this error was ENTIRELY our fault, when we contacted Terry to ask about our options, he was extremely accommodating and assured us that he could modify the workers' planned approach, so that the windows could be replaced the next day, thus preventing our having to remove the roofing around those windows a _second_ time. Although we discussed the probability of having to replace all 6 skylights, the workers discovered that only 4 were damaged, thus saving us the cost of two additional windows. Similarly, Terry had discussed the possibility (and cost) of having to replace any damaged/rotten wood under the shingles, but the workers found no problems with the existing wood and we were spared that additional cost, as well. In summary, we felt very confident that we were not being charged for services that weren't necessary.
Description of Work: Entire roof on a single-family home was replaced. Four skylights were also replaced.

The workers at Central Roofing were very professional. They offered us different options and we were pleased. They came, evaluated, and fixed my roof in a completely professional manner.
Description of Work: I hired Central Roofing & Siding Co. for my roofing.
Eric Kibler originally came out to repair a piece of roof that blew off, but recommended that we needed to soon replace the whole roof, which was good advice, as there turned out to be rotted wood underneath. We decided to also replace the siding, two sets of patio doors, and added skylights along with a new window for a dark bathroom. From start to finish, everyone at this company was a pleasure to interact with. The work was quickly and efficiently done, and the attention to detail (especially all the caulking and capping done with the siding ... I never noticed until now how detailed siding work needs to be, the perfect fitting of the new patio doors and new window, and the fit of the skylights and roof) is amazing! The roof only took one day, the replacing of the patio doors and the cutting of a new window was also completed in one day. The siding took about a week, which is still amazing considering all the detail work. Eric always kept in contact to see how things were moving along. Everyone was very respectful of the property, being careful not to damage things and keep things clean. During the siding installation, the guys cleaned up at the end of everyday. Overall we are very happy with the company; the people were great and the quality of work is A+. I would highly recommend this company, I only wish they also did other work such as pool repair and deck replacement!
Description of Work: Had siding, roof, patio doors, gutters replaced, cut in 3 skylights, 1 sun tunnel, and 1 new window for a bathroom.

The salesman, Terry was terrific. He was really low key, there was no hard sell. He just showed us the product and gave us an estimate and we just loved that. There was no dog and pony show put up, he was really straightforward and friendly. He put us at ease and definitely established trust almost immediately. This was after we had contacted two other companies that had already made us uncomfortable by hard selling so we decided to go with Central Roofing. They came in first for a detailed measurement and then installed the windows. There were some issues with the order, one door actually didn?t come in and other door was the wrong door. They had to re-order and wait for another 3 weeks for it to come in and then we waited for the weather to be clear enough for them to do the installation. However for us it was no big deal as we did not have any time constraints. It was finally finished by the 6th of this month but their workers came right in and they did the job well. The workers were friendly and they cleaned up really well. They were quick and very happy to fix any minor issues that came up like the cocking issues or little gaps and stuff. It went really well. The windows and doors look gorgeous and I?m really happy with it. It couldn?t have been a better experience aside from the mix up in the order but it didn?t affect us. I really liked working with Terry, he was easy to talk to and get in touch with, and it is a great company.

I had a leak in a bathroom ceiling and had already been through some unsatisfactory experiences in looking to get it repaired. I found Central Roofing through Angie's list, and am a first time user. I found the entire experience terrific. The person who made the appointment gave me one within a few days, and told me the name of the person who would come. Eric arrived promptly at 7 am and was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He came prepared to not only evaluate the job, but also to do the work. He provided me with information about the state of my roof (I asked) without trying to sell me a new one, and as a nice touch, even cleaned out a small, very high gutter, for me. I would definitely recommend Central to others, and in fact, already have. And I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Evaluated source of leak from roof into townhouse. Replaced 2 flashings around vent pipes and replaced broken adjacent shingles. Had to climb onto a tall, wet roof to do so.

Received a prompt response for a quote for siding trim work and a replacement of a sliding glass door. The siding team installed aluminum trim work including capping around existing windows and doors. The price was reasonable, but the workmanship and quality were outstanding. The crew took great pride in their work and were true craftsmen. They completed work promptly and cleaned up all trash and debris - the house looks great. A separate crew installed a new sliding glass door. The price here was very reasonable, but definitely a step down in quality and workmanship. The caulk work was sloppy and latch HW was improperly installed. Overall a great company to do business with, with great quality of work.

We couldn't be more pleased with the new roof that Central installed for us. They had done small roofing repairs for us in the past and we felt very comfortable with them and trusted them. They did not disappoint. Their crew of about 7 men showed up right on time and got right to work. The crew chief kept me informed throughout regarding the progress of the job and answered my questions. They cleaned up throughly after themselves and by 5pm that night we had a new roof!
Description of Work: Complete tear-off of the old roof (down to the plywood) and installation of a new roof and ridge cap. To give a sense of the size of our roof, we live in a 2200 sq.ft. house that has an attached garage and sunroom, both of which needed to have the roof replaced as well. They had to replace a little bit of the plywood which was rotted or damaged. We choose "dimensional" shingles which have more of a 3D look to them. They are a little more expensive than regular shingles but we think look nicer than the traditional flat shingles. We also chose shingles that have mold "repellent" in them and are guaranteed not to mold/mildew or discolor for up to 10 years. Again, they're a little more expensive but we felt it was worth it.

Overall it went exactly as my wife and I had hoped. Eric of Central showed up right on time, he found the problem in our roof easily and took care of it. Just as important, he took a good look at the rest of the roof and assured us this wasn't a portent of things to come - that we were in good shape overall. It's so nice to have a roofer come out who's content to patch a hole without trying to scare you into a new roof (unless you really need one). Eric even took the time to give me pointers on my shed roof, which I was installing myself. I've already recommended Central to several of my Silver Spring friends and will continue to do so.

The rep arrived on time, was courteous and professional. He measured the windows and doors and made some recommendations based on our preferences, but was very quickly in and out and didn't have much information to share on the spot. He did follow up with a comprehensive mailed package and we received a written estimate within a few days. Responsiveness to changes to the specifications was less than ideal, but overall the experience was good. The price was in line, if only slightly higher than our chosen contractor. I would highly recommend considering Central for windows and doors.

I knew what to expect as they did a good job with the roof recently. It was convenient that they could do the proposal instantaneously, as they had the dimensions of the roof (from the past job). A proposal came in the mail shortly, I sent it in, the gutters were up in about 2-3 days. We came home from work and there they were. It is the same way the roof was done. If you don't need to be around, they'll do the job while you are off doing other things. I like it that way, because the car/work situation makes it tricky to be off.
Description of Work: I had Central put a new roof on late in 2008. At the time my standard-size gutters, through a combination of their size and the loose hanging mechanisms caused water to overshoot them. Central replaced and removed the old gutters with oversized ones. I went out in a storm soon after and there was no overshooting.

They were able to do the inspection without me being there, which was very convenient. I had to call the company to prompt a follow-up, but I was in a hurry and needed a very quick turnaround so I didn't give them much time to respond (1 day). Mitch was very courteous and provided a detailed quote within another day. The quote was the most affordable of the three companies I had provide estimates. I connected Mitch and my HVAC contractor to schedule the service, which they were able to do the next Monday. The roofing team arrived on Monday promptly at 9am and worked diligently until 6pm. They moved my patio furniture so it would not be damaged by the raining roof particles. In addition to rebuilding the damaged corner of the roof, they rebuilt part of the support for my skylight. Unfortunately, this caused a mess in my house, but they offered to use my vacuum cleaner to clean the debris. The next day I had the new HVAC unit delivered. The roofing guys again showed up before 9am to complete the work around the unit and finish the details. They completed the project around 5pm on Tuesday. I was very pleased with the overall project. The only downside was the state of my patio once they left. When they originally moved my patio furniture, they set it on my flower beds. When they finished, they failed to move it back. Additionally, they did not remove all of the debris -- most of it, but not all. Again, other than that, I was very happy with the work of Mitch and his team. Very professional and helpful. They answered all of my questions both before and during the work. I would use Central Roofing again.
Description of Work: They completely replaced the roof on my flat roof townhome. They stripped the existing roof down to the substrate, rebuilt one corner of the roof/house because of existing water damage, and then installed a new 3-ply self-adhering modified roofing system. The unexpected rebuild was fairly priced and they went the extra mile to ensure quality. They also had to coordinate with my HVAC company, as I was replacing an old rooftop HVAC unit at the same time.

Response to company's response: I was very disappointed in the response from this company - I would never email a company over 25 times - I have all the emails. We only had one phone conversation to confirm the appointment. I do not make phone calls from work during the day, and can show my cell phone bill to prove it. I emailed about 5 times and the emails were very cordial, which is why I did not give a nasty review. However, now I'd be concerned given the feedback posted. I would never offer our tools or equiptment for the actual job as who would replace them if damaged. Your products are the same as every other roofer, they are not superior - they are equal to everyone elses. The only difference is other roofers are willing to give a detailed bid and explain exactly what they plan to do/recommend, whereas your company gives a flat price - take it or leave it. You underprice everyone else to get the business, but that also greatly concerns me as no one else with the cost of materials, insurance, etc. could come close to your price. The specifics I asked for were about new products becoming available which would make it possible for us to recieve the tax credit - now please explain to me how that is unreasonable? There was no mention of using another company (wish they would have said that upfront, although we had planned to meet with other contractors for comparison) or I wouldn't have wasted my time. Mitch, in his emails appeared to be helpful and what he didn't know, willing to find out. I was also very specific on what I wanted. The only other project talked about was new siding and after the price came in, we ruled that out, so you are clearly confusing me with another customer as you are with the multiple phone calls and emails. There are no other outside projects left on our house as we've done the many projects, including the windows. P.S. I'd like to know why you called my house on March 31st at 10:42 A.M? If I am that difficult to deal with, why would you want to talk to me. P.S.S. If you want really discuss specifics, of all the roofers we had out, we were surprised that you didn't get on our roof and look at it (so if I offered a ladder, maybe it was because you didn't bring one to be decent?), check our our attic to see what type of boards/wood we have and if they'd need replaced, etc. Every other roofer did it and took measurements on the roof except your company. And, most told us specific needs that they felt we had due to what they saw on our roof.

WE FEEL THE FEEDBACK THAT THE MEMBER PROVIDED IS NOT ONLY INACCURATE BUT ALSO MISREPRESENTS OUR COMPANY. IT WAS CLEARLY EVIDENT AFTER NUMEROUS (OVER 25) EMAIL CONVERSATIONS AND DETAILED PHONE CONVERSATIONS THAT MY COMPANY WAS NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO SATISFY THIS MEMBER. WE MADE EVERY ATTEMPT TO ACCOMMODATE THIS MEMBER AND MAKE SUGGESTIONS THAT MY COMPANY THOUGHT WERE APPROPRIATE FOR THIS RATHER EASY AND STRAIGHTFORWARD PROJECT. EVERY EMAIL AND CONVERSATION WE HAD WITH THE MEMBER RESULTED IN HER WANTING TO CHANGE THE PRODUCT THEY WERE INTERESTED IN, OR INQUIRE ABOUT A DIFFERENT PRODUCT, OR SUGGEST DOING OTHER PROJECTS. THEREFORE A DETAILED WRITTEN ESTIMATE WAS NEVER WRITTEN UP BECAUSE WE DID NOT KNOW AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE MEMBER WANTED. I NEVER ONCE DOUBTED THEIR KNOWLEDGE OR DO IT YOURSELF PROWESS, IN FACT I WAS IMPRESSED BY IT. HOWEVER THE MEMBER WANTED TO PURCHASE SOME OR ALL OF THE MATERIALS, SHE ALSO INSISTED WE USE HER LADDERS, AND EVEN OFFERED HER TOOLS, SAYING SHE KNEW THEY WERE BETTER THEN OURS. IT WAS QUITE RIDICULOUS. WE FELT THIS WAS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR MANY REASONS BUT SIMPLY NOT THE WAY WE DO BUSINESS. WE HAVE BEEN SERVING THE COMMUNITY FOR OVER 50 YEARS HONESTLY, DEPENDABLY, AND WITH COMPLETE OPENNESS. THIS WAS ONE CUSTOMER WHO IS MUCH BETTER OFF FINDING ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. IT IS BETTER FOR BOTH PARTIES. IN REGARDS TO ALIGNING WITH ONE PARTICULAR PRODUCT, OUR COMPANY HAS THE OPPOSITE APPROACH. WE HAVE PRODUCTS THAT WE FEEL ARE SUPERIOR, HOWEVER WE INSTALL ALL PRODUCTS WE HAVE NO EXCLUSIVE AGREEMENT. I TOLD HER THE OPPOSITE AND SHE INTERPRETED IT DIFFERENTLY. WHICH WAS PAR FOR THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE. AGAIN MUCH BETTER SHE FIND SOMEONE ELSE.

This is a 100 year old building and the windows that were coming out dated back to the 1980s, when the building went condo. Terry was responsive to all my questions before the work was done. After the contract was signed, Frank, who installed the windows, came out to take more detailed measurements, and noted that at least some of the window frames were an inch wider at the top than the bottom. I appreciated his attention to detail. The windows arrived from the factory within the time promised. The greatest delay came from my own schedule. On the day of installation, Frank, Jeremy and their colleague were very professional, cleaning as they went, and barely leaving a scratch on the walls. They were also very careful that my two curious cats wouldn't get out of the condo door or through any open windows. There were only two glitches, which Frank took care of immediately. First, two of the windows sent by the factory were the wrong size. At no charge to me, the correct-sized windows were ordered, and arrived faster than the first set. Second, on removing the old windows the space in the frames was bigger than expected. Frank was able to fill in the space using a nicely placed piece of wood instead of 2 inches of caulk.

We had a persistent leak at the corner of a skylight. We had had someone seal around it previously, along with two other skylights, but that did nothing. Eric at Central Roofing basically did the same thing. Still leaked. He came back and advised a total roof replacement and said that the roof material was not appropriate for the slight angle of the roof. He theorized that rain would not have time to run off prior to seeping in under the shingles, and that there needed to be a waterproof sheet under the shingles to prevent this. The cost of total replacement would be between $7,000 and $7,800. We thought about it. I decided to go onto the roof myself and thoroughly clean around the skylight. That was in November of 2007. We have experienced no leak since then.

EVERY TIME WE VISITED THIS ROOF, WE THOROUGHLY CLEANED AND SEALED AROUND THE SKYLIGHTS. THE WAY IN WHICH THIS ROOF IS SITUATED WILL CAUSE DEBRIS TO ALWAYS BE FORMING AROUND THE SKYLIGHTS. IF YOU CAN KEEP THESE AREA'S CLEAR, THEN WATER CAN RUN-OFF SUCCESSFULLY AND THE SKYLIGHTS WON'T LEAK. BECAUSE THE SKYLIGHTS WERE NEVER PROPERLY FLASHED AND INSTALLED CORRECTLY IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE PROPER WAY TO FIX THIS SKYLIGHT IS TO SEAL AROUND THE EDGES WITH A PRODUCT LIKE WINTERGUARD TO CREATE A 100% WATER-PROOF BARRIER. THE ONLY WAY TO DO THAT IS TO REPLACE THE ROOF AND THEN INSTALL WINTERGUARD. IF WE HAD INSTALLED A NEW ROOF FOR THIS CUSTOMER, WE WOULD HAVE USED THE MONEY THAT SHE PAID FOR THE REPAIR TOWARDS THE COST OF A NEW ROOF.

A large section of siding was blown off our house in a windstorm. I chose to call Central because of the company's excellent reputation on Angie's List. Terry listened to my concerns, educated me that waiting for the insurance company to process the claim during wet winter weather should not result in further damage - but told me to call him right away if the interior walls seemed damp, promptly provided me an estimate, and waited patiently for my insurance company to maneuver. He advised me on choosing colors and styles for the new siding and shutters. Once we had the go-ahead, the work was begun within 10 days. The team was professional and polite, and cleaned up after themselves neatly. Terry came by to inspect, and also called to ask if I was happy with the work. The new siding looks great; I am very pleased with every aspect of the service Central Roofing and Siding has provided, and enthusiastically recommend them.

Called after I was told by my home inspector that I had some nail pops on my roof that needed to be removed and sealed. I called Central and they scheduled for a couple of days later. They told me they have a $250 min. He came between 1 and 2 pm as promised and confirmed the work and did it. (I have no way to check the work.) It took about 20 minutes including retrieving my neighbors siding from my roof. Had to get him to detail receipt but they told me they now have a form receipt with more detail. Good for them.

We found the company on Angie's List, called and made an appointment for two days in advance. Technician diagnosed the problem and we decided to have the work done the next day. Appointment was made for the repairs several days later. Technician was on time, efficient and professional. We are waiting for the first rain to test the work.
Description of Work: Examined the roof and suggested repairs, including repairing some shingles, installed a valley to stop roof from leaking. Cost was less than 1/10th the price of a previous quote from another company.

I was very happy with both jobs that they did. They arrived on time and stayed within the estimate given. They were knowledgeable and did what they were supposed to do. They cleaned up after the job was finished. I was pleased with the work that was done.
Description of Work: They did two things for me. They did siding and put asphalt shingles on the back half of my house.

Dave was able to fix our roof for $250.00 when others were providing estimates four times the amount. Other roofers tried to tell us we had problems with our roof ridge and Dave found it was only a sealant problem that he was able to fix. He was friendly, thorough and professional.
Description of Work: They repaired our leaky roof.
