Emergency Services Offered
Services we offer
Roofing, Siding, Gutter Replacement, Windows & Entry Doors.
Please note that we do not offer gutter repair services.
This is the most professional (and honest) company I've worked with in years. They provided exactly what I needed and no more. For example, I thought that my vinyl siding would have to be completely replaced, but I was told that overall it as in very good shape and only needed minor repair--saving me several thousand dollars. From sales to cleanup, this company is among the very best, if not the leader, in the industry.
Description of Work: Removed existing roof shingles; replaced deteriorated wood; installed aluminum drip edge; installed Winterguard ice and water shield and felt underlayment; installed Certainteed architectural shingles; cut and installed a new shingle-vent; installed new aluminum gutters and downspouts; repaired vinyl siding on the gables that was bulging.

Central was truly amazing and a pleasure to work with. I've worked with a LOT of contractors in the past (for our home and small business), and they were probably the best experience I've ever had with a contractor -- which is saying a lot. The office staff were friendly and fairly responsive. The semi slowness on their responsiveness was literally the only drawback I had in my entire experience with them. Their work crew (led by Marcelo Toro) was honestly AMAZING! They were quick, VERY hard working, and the quality of their work was excellent. The most impressive thing about them (aside from the quality of their work) was that they were able to accommodate a lot of unexpected twists and turns in the project, with grace and professionalism. This included the following: They worked around two other sets of contractors we had working with them at the same time -- a roof deck contractor (demolishing and rebuilding a roof deck), and an HVAC contractor (relocating a compressor that had been on the roof). In two cases, these other contractors left their work undone (or done ineffectively) so that it got in the way of the roofing job. Instead of complaining or delaying, Central just redid the work of these other contractors themselves (better than the other contractors) and got back to their own work. (This was incredibly impressive to me!) The previous owners of our house didn't properly vent our drier -- so the ventilation pipes ended up under the roofing boards. They cut through the old roof boards, extended the pipes and moved them so that they'd vent properly without getting in the way of our roof deck. Part of the plan for this job called for running drainage lines from the front side of our roof to the back side of our roof, under an old roof shed that had been built on a small foundation on top of the roof. We expected (initally) that this would be a simple job, but it turned out that there wasn't enough clearance under the shed to run the drainage lines. To manage this, they had to cut into the floor of the shed (through tile, concrete, and steel flooring) run the lines and then replace the flooring. They managed all of this work and still stayed relatively on schedule. Again, I was impressed with the versatility of the roofing team (not only roofing work, but also, tile work, carpentry, siding, etc.) They re-ran a water line that we had running up to our roof from ground level (for roof-top gardening). Again, it's the versatility of the roofing team that impressed me. Plumbing was part of their expertise too! Overall, the experience was simply great!
Description of Work: Central demolished and replaced our old flat roof and gutters, and redid the siding on our roof shed.

I had a very peculiar experience with Central Roofing as they simply did not appear to want my business. Their initial reaction was that I would have to have slate installed and that they did not install slate. I said that I did not necessarily want slate and since my house is not in a historic district slate is not a must. I asked for an appointment to get a quote for the roof, gutter and skylight. The office manager said she would call me back. She was prompt in calling me back and said that they prefer flatroof work and would not be able to provide a quote. I am not sure why the lack of interest as per their website they do all of the above and the pictures on their website are all mansard roofs. Maybe it was my location, NW DC?
Description of Work: I was looking to get a quote to have the mansard roof portion of my roof replaced as well as gutters replaced and a skylight installed.

We are sorry we could not help this member, however we have never installed roofing on mansard row homes in the district. It is simply not our specialty. There are companies that specialize in this type of installation that requires more work then just removing the slates. Such as complicated coping work and flashing. We have always referred these jobs to an appropriate contractor who has been serving the district for many years. Perhaps our office manager forgot to make a referral. As a family run remodeling specialist in the rockville area, our crews are trained and certified for certain applications. This is just not that type. The area is of no concern, we have installed new roof systems for thousands of DC residents over our 55 years, it is the scope of work that is important. I apologize again for any mis-understanding. We urge members to consider reports on work we performed, not on brief phone conversations.

Overall we are very satisfied with just a couple of minor complaints. The roof is lovely and they installed it very quickly - it just took one day. The workers were pleasant and professional. We willingly paid a premium to go with this company because of the professionalism of their salesperson and his promise that the crew was skilled and had been working for the company for a long time. It did start to rain near the end of the day, and the crew apparently did not run the roller over the ground to pick up nails (we were not home at the time to see). We contacted Terry to let him know this, and he sent someone out the very next day to take care of it, which we appreciated. The other small issue is that a small number of the shingles seem to be wavy/unsettled, but this apparently can happen in cold weather and we have been told that they will settle down once we get some warm weather. We also had windows installed in our basement, and the installers did a very quick and professional job. The windows were delivered when promised.

I did not observe the replacement of the gutter. It occured about three or four days after I placed the order. Frank, the window subcontractor and his crew were terrific. They took two days to complete the job. Their professionalism was excellent. Not only did they take considerable care to do a good job, they also did a great job of cleaning up afterward. I do have a couple of complaints about doing business with Central. First, Central's sales representative, Bernie, never followed up on the gutter or windows. I was surprised that he didn't even call to ask whether or not I was satisfied with the work. Second, I had asked to have different parts of the job written on separate invoices. I had to follow-up twice to get billing the way I needed it. Also, I had to have them correct the invoice, as I was being double-billed. Central would do much better if they provided detailed invoices. Straightening out the invoices was a minor inconvenience until Bernie called in early December me asking why I hadn't paid my whole bill. I walked him through the invoices and he finally realized that I had paid in full almost immediately after the job was completed. His bookkeeping was in error. He still didn't ask if I was satisfied with the work. I previously used Central for a roof replacement. After I was given a quote, I asked about the 5 percent discount for Angie's List customers. Bernie told me that he knew I was an Angie's List customer and had already discounted the quote. If that was really the case, I would have felt better if the quotes had shown the gross estimate and the discount. Central's subcontractors do excellent work and I recommend them based on that. Bernie is quick to seal the deal, but follow-up is really poor.
Description of Work: The gutter and downspouts along the back of the house were replaced. A number of windows and a door were replaced. Three regular windows, a large kitchen window, three large windows in the living room, and the sliding door and two picture windows in the basement.

The main roof replacement went great. The estimate was far below other estimates and we chose them mainly because of price (they were also local and highly rated on Angie's list). However, they replaced the roof while we were not home, and did not do the porch flashing as promised. It took several weeks of calling to get them to come back and do the flashing.
Description of Work: They replaced a flat dormer roof over our second floor. This involved tearing off the old roof, replacing 4 pieces of rotted ply wood, and reapplying energy efficient rubber roofing. This was all in response to a pretty bad leak that had begun to leak into our living room. They also fixed a poorly-done flashing job over our porch roof.

Contacted this company twice through Angie's List for a quote on insulating part of my home. They never responded. 5/31/2011 -- UPDATE: Just now noticed that a response was left that they looked through all their call logs and records and couldn't find any record of a call/email. In case it helps, I tried contacting this company in three different ways: - First, through the "Contact this Company" link directly on the Contact Page within Angie's List. I filled out the form and hit submit. - When I didn't hear back for over a week, I called the number listed on the AL's Contact page for this contractor ((301) 881-2424) and left not one, but two voicemails. Neither were returned. - Lastly, I went directly to the Contractor's own website, via the link on AL, and clicked on the "Email Us" link on the right side of their website, filled out my contact information and submitted it. To this day, I still never received a return message. Perhaps something weird happened to ALL my messages. Perhaps my job was small, insignificant and undesirable. I don't know. But, for whatever reason, they never contacted me back.

The company is very professional and I was very satisified with the experience. Central Roofing's estimate was quick and accurate in both price and their availability to do the job. Once I commited to using their firm, they provided shingle samples to choose color. Their personnel showed up on time, did the roof installation in one day (11 work hours) as promised, and installed the gutters on a second day of work. The installation looks great and there is no evidence of any problems.

Central was responsive in scheduling and providing an estimate. They provided a complete bid package, and clearly explained their offer. Once accepted, they were efficient in scheduling the job, They accomplished the task quickly and did an excellent job of cleaning up, leaving behind no trace they had been there.
Description of Work: I requested an estimate to replace the roof (~25 years old) on my townhouse. They inspected the roof, and also recommended replacement of an existing skylight. Their bid was in the middle of several estimates, and they were available to start work sooner so I selected them. They completely removed the existing roof, down to the plywood, and installed new ice dam membrane, tar-paper and shingles, new flashing and vent collars, and new ridge vent. All debris was removed

Estimates do not cost $50. For repair work, we do charge a diagnostic fee of $50 to get up on a roof and diagnose a problem. We only charge the diagnostic fee if we properly diagnose the problem and the customer decides not to do the repair. If the customer decides to do the repair, the $50 is included with the price of the repair. Most customers find that our repair prices are hundreds of dollars less than our competitors. Estimates for new roofing, siding, gutters, or window installations are always free.

We had high hopes on hiring this company - the reviews looked good. We needed a roof repair and called and was told that someone would call the next day to set an appointment. No one called us back. A few days later we called again and set up an appointment for the following week. They never showed up. We started the project with the roof and sun tunnels. Before the project, the roofing foreman came out to the house and crawled around our attic to confirm where we wanted the sun tunnels. We came home one day to find that all the materials were already at the house on the roof, waiting for the crew to arrive (obviously they had already been there with a forklift to drop off the materials). The crew arrived the next day to start the roof. It was a huge job since it is a 2800 sq foot ranch with a lot of roof. I was very impressed with the professionalism and tidiness of the crew. They knew that we had dogs, so every couple of hours someone came through with a magnet to clean up any nails. They always made sure the gates were closed and they left the place tidy at the end of the day. Even though we were supposed to take care of the interior part of the sun tunnel installation, it became obvious that the whole thing had to be done at the same time. They took care of it, no problem, no upcharge. When they were done, the place was spotless and the roof looked beautiful. Next came the siding crew. They took a little bit longer, as there was only 2-3 of them at any given time. They started at one end of the house and completed the entire area, taking down the old cedar shake and installing the new siding and soffits before moving to the next area. It was nice not having the entire house in process at the same time, just the area they were working on. They always made sure that when they left for the day, everything was tidy and all materials were neatly stacked and out of our way. I was very impressed with the quality of the workmanship as I've seen siding less professionally done in the past. We had an old air conditioner that we wanted removed from the wall, and then the area covered over and sided -- no problem, they even took the old air condidtioner. There was one area, that I wasn't completely happy with (its an oddly built area of the house where a sunroom is attached to the back of the house). They had finished it as they thought appropriate. I called the office with my concerns and by the time I got home, it had been fixed. Bringing up the rear were the gutter people. They did an absolutely beautiful job, including listening to some concerns we had in the back about water overflow and drainage. The crew actually fashioned a custom piece for us to address these issues. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Unlike some companies, they didn't require a huge downpayment and the sales part of it wasn't pushy with everything spelled out up front. It was a joy to deal with the project manager, the crews were professional as well as extremely likeable guys. Once done, a bill came in the mail, that was it. I am now left with a beautifully done house that I am proud of and a company that I would recommend to anyone.
Description of Work: We had the roofing replaced with architectural roofing (there were already 2 previous roofs, so everything had to be removed down to the plywood), we had the siding replaced (we had 40 year old cedar shake), we had two sun tunnels installed and we had new 6" gutters installed.

Overall, I would not recommend Central Roofing and Siding for gutter replacement; call a gutter specialist directly. The estimator, Matt, was punctual, professional, and knowledgeable. He sent me an estimate in a timely fashion, and it was a good price. My decision to use Central was solely based on his performance. Unfortunately, he was not with the crew that came to do the work. I emailed my signed estimate back to him on Oct 11th, and asked that they call me to schedule a time to do the work. I did not hear from them by Oct. 22nd, so I called them. They said they could have their crew come out on a weekend, which was great for me. The secretary said she would see if this weekend was possible, and that she would call me right back. She did not, so I assumed this weekend was not possible. However, this morning (Saturday) at 10am there was a knock at my door and a crew ready to do the work. I had plans today, but wanted to get this done. After they started I went outside and saw that it was, in fact, DANNY'S GUTTERS who was pulling gutters off my house, NOT Central Roofing. If I had wanted to contract with Danny's, I would have. I believe Angie's List should require companies to list whether they use subcontractors without notifying customers beforehand; or at least add a box to the rating list (along with price and quality) that allows customers to clearly identify for other AL members whether what you sign off on is what you get. In terms of Danny's Gutters, they were very nice, but tried to cut corners. They initially put the downspout in the easy way, draining onto the roof below instead of into the upper gutter, which is how I had asked Matt to do it. They also cut off part of the leaf-relief guard to make it fit more easily, but leaving a raw metal edge and a space where things could get into the gutter. When I called them on these things (after getting up on a ladder to inspect their work), they did correct them without issue. But then I went out a window later onto the roof to see how the upper gutter had been done, I found that they had done the same thing as what I'd had them fix earlier as below (assuming I would not go up there, I suspect)! I am very glad I took the time to check out their work and look at things closely, or I would have been in no better a situation than I was when I started.
Description of Work: Replace the gutters and downspouts over my back porch, and on the small roof above that area (half the second story on the back side of the house).

Danny is my gutter man. He's been with us a long time. He is one of the best, most reliable, and professional gutter installers I have ever met. He does not cut corners. If Danny suggests that gutters be installed a certain way, there is always a reason for it. He is an expert. In this customer's case, she requested us do a couple of things that Danny would not normally recommend. We ended up doing things her way, but that's not what I would have advised her to do.

We have a leak in our roof that we have twice had "fixed" (by two other companies). The roof seemed fine until we had driving rains and the leak restarted and put a large hole in our ceiling. We engaged this company to evaluate what the problem is and we couldn't get a quick appointment, it took a few weeks for someone to come out. When someone did come out, we were told that it is either the "roof, siding or the windows". This person could not tell us which and could not come up with a clear plan for how to determine. He also said that if he redid the roof, he couldn't put it under warranty. I am disappointed that we paid $50 to a company that could not tell us what needed to be done next. They came while we were at work and wrote a few words on a piece of paper and didn't bother to call to explain. Not very professional.

We have a small repair department and this customer caught us at a busy time. We visited his house as soon as we could. His particular issue is extremely complicated. We went up on his roof and my repairman spent some time looking at the shingles and various areas. It was his professional opinion that the shingles were probably ok, but he couldn't tell for sure exactly where the water was leaking. He did not feel that it was right to charge the customer our usual minimum of $275 for a repair that might not be beneficial. The customer offered to pay our $50 diagnosis fee, my repairman accepted the check then left. Upon my usual review of our repair tickets, I noticed that were not able to officially diagnosis the problem. I called the customer and gave him some suggestions to try and have the problem solved. I also mentioned that since we were not able to properly diagnosis the situation (without a full tear off) that I was not going to deposit his $50 check.
