Work proceeded quickly and efficiently, and in less time that anticipated. Crew gave advance notice of their arrival in the morning, and were able to easily move furniture back and forth as needed to complete the job. Results were very impressive overall, including reworking an earlier replacement slat that had popping nail heads. The entire job was completed in less than 2-1/2 days, with the crew returning on the last day to locate furniture in their original locations after the clearcoat had cured overnight. A couple pet stains hidden by a rug were still visible afterward, but now the rug is back in place. Normal treatment would have been to replace the slats, so no issue there.
Description of Work: Sanding and refinishing of hardwood floors with 3 coats of clear polyurethane throughout, house: living room, dining room, kitchen (including under refrigerator), two bedrooms, a short hallway and 4 closets. Removal and replacement of quarter-rounds along baseboards.

We were satisfied with the job from the initial visit to completion. Mr. Eddie Davis was able to set up an appointment shortly after I contacted Aladdin's office. I explained that I had purchased the Angie's Big Deal for my daughter who resided in Fairfax, Va. He explained that the initial visit was in order to do an assessment, to take measurements and to write the proposal with estimates. I was very impressed with Mr. Davis. He was punctual, knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He explained in detail what would happen and made some recommendations regarding the repair. The crew arrived on time. They were very professional and efficient and they did an excellent job. They carefully draped the work-area with plastic to avoid getting dust in other parts of the house. We were very pleased with the job which was completed in 1 1/2 days. We received a call the following day from Mr. Davis to see if we were satisfied with the job. I would definitely recommend them to Angie's member and family/friends.
Description of Work: Cleaning, sanding and applied polyurethane polish to the hardwood floors in the living room, dining room and hallway. They also replaced several areas that had pet stains and missing boards.

From my first telephone contact to the post-installation follow up, Aladdin was very professional. Their scheduler worked about my travel. Their representative came to my house and offered a limited but good selection of replacement alternatives. The actual installation took less time than originally scheduled. Each appointment was kept at the appointed time. And although my insurance covered the expense, it seemed to me that the price was fair.
Description of Work: Aladdin Carpet was recommended to me by my insurance company to replace basement carpeting which had been water damaged by a furnace condensation unit malfunction. They removed all the damaged carpet and installed new carpet through the basement and the stairs.

We bought a BigDeal for Aladdin and Eddie promptly followed up. We scheduled time for him to come to the house. He did a very thorough walk-through and called back the next day with a date and time that they could come provide the services. The two workers came right on time, did the work to an excellent standard, and left late in the afternoon. We're very happy with how it came out and would certainly use Aladdin again.
Description of Work: We had remodeled our kitchen last summer, but were not happy with the ways the wood floors came out. Aladdin came, sanded them, and applied a new finish. They also added trim along the sides. They completed the job in one day.

We've had several carpet estimates, mostly from Angie's List. The estimate that came in was more than 100% higher than any of the other estimates. All the other estimate were in the $3000-4000 range, but the estimate from Aladdin came back in the $8000-9000 range. Their prices are twice what most of the other carpet companies charge in this area. Our rating on price was therefore F. After our rating was submitted to Angies list, the appraiser called to explain why the estimate was high, and asked us to revise our rating. After eight calls from the appraiser, it was determined that the estimate included premium underpad that was contributing $2,829.66 to the job (ie: without the upgraded underpad, the price would have been 5,689.09). With this clarification, the price rating is being revised from an F, to a D. Our original rating of A for responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism of the estimator remains unchanged.

I purchased a Big Deal from this company to get 300 sq ft of hardwood floor refinished. The consulatant called right away to set up the appointment, and arrived on time. He took measurements of the two rooms I had in mind, and also measured the adjoining hallway. There were two disappointing suprises with the estimate, and then he broke the law.The first: The cost to actually complete the job was about three times what I paid in the Big Deal. This is from the additional costs to install shoe molding and two transition thresholds. The second: When including the extra square footage for the hallway, he made the statement that he was giving us a deal and only charging $3.99 per sq ft instead of $4.99 per sq ft. When I showed him the text in the Big Deal, which states the cost of the service is normally $1.99 to $3.99 per square foot, he responded with something very vague about the "extra coatings" he was throwing in for us.He then asked for 50% of the cost of the job as a down payment up front, before he wrote a single word in the contract. When I responded that I would never pay 50% of a job up front he said that then we could go by law and pay one third down. That was interesting. I asked more about this law. He couldn't answer anything about it so I looked it up. In Maryland, it's against the law for a contractor to accept more than one-third in advance. (See Maryland Attorney General Site http://www.oag.state.md.us)I asked why he broke the law in my house. He said he was unfamiliar with the law and was doing what he was trained to do and had been doing for N years in business. I said I was now completely uncomfortable that he had broken this apparently basic law, and that he had said $3.99 per sq ft was a "deal." He responded by telling us they were a very good company, they would definitely come in and do the work professionally, etc. We asked him to leave, and have someone else call us because we were too uncomfortable with this exchange. He walked out into our driveway and called the owner of the company, Amir. The consultant handed his cell phone to my husband, who asked Amir to answer the question about why the consultant asked for 50% down, which is against MD state law. No apology. He started to tell a story about how long he'd been in business. My husband asked again. Amir started yelling at him that the job was a modest cost, apparently defending the practice of asking for 50% as reasonable. They are a Maryland Home Improvement Contractor in good standing, and they should know how much they can legally accept up front. We feel very violated. If they'd done the right thing and asked for one third down, the deal would have been done. If they'd apologized about breaking the law, or showed any concern for that, we could've gotten back on track. We will never use this company again and would advise great caution to anyone considering using them. Definitely don't put 50% down up front!

Response from Aladdin Carpet & Floors
My name is Eddie and I was the salesman assigned to serve the members. Before anything I want to thank the members for giving Aladdin Carpet and Myself the opportunity to be at their service. I am also very thankful to Angie’s List to allow me to present my side of the story and let members of Angie’s list decide for themselves. I arrived at the member's home at approximately 6:30pm and I departed at approximately 10:30pm. The entire time my goal was to gain their trust and provide them service beyond their expectations. When I arrived in their home I was shown living and dining room area that was supposed to be refinished. At this time the member informed me that she was very skeptical of any work being done in her home by anyone but her husband because in the past they have had a very bad experience with another contractor. I explained that our company has been in business for 25 plus years and we pride ourselves in excellent customer service. Her husband pointed out many mistakes that he had made and the previous owners made prior to him and his wife's purchase the home in 1995. With my background and experience, I tried to provide them some tips as how to correct these mistakes with minimum cost and applying economical solutions that would be in their best interest. Her husband asked me to provide a cost to re-grout the entire ceramic tile floor that he had installed in their large kitchen. I explained that because he has installed the ceramic tile, he could save money by taken care of the problem himself. I explained to him exactly where to buy the tools and materials to complete the project. The husband thanked me and seemed to be frustrated that he did not have a cost effective way to remedy the problem. He and I also made a connection because we both grew up and went to high school in the same general area. During this time the member seemed to question most of the information that I provided to them because she did not understand most of the process and concepts needed in order to take care of most of their flooring needs. Her husband assured her that he understood and was in full agreement with the solutions I provided because he knew that I had their best interest at hand as a potential client. The members asked me to provide them with a quote to carpet their newly finished sun room. I measured and gave them a price. For the refinishing project I went over all the details that were given in the coupon and explained that because there are other potential work I will upgrade their refinishing material from basic emulsion to Bona commercial finish, remove and reset their furniture, shoemoulding and transitions at no extra charge. At this time the husband tried to explain to his wife that with all the services that we would be providing ( We were going to apply one coat of sealer, three coats of poly, remove / reset all furniture, remove / replace all shoemould and threshoulds, install new threshoulds that were needed, prepare and cover all vents in the home to prevent dust and saw dust from entering the rest of the home, haul away and dispose of existing shoemould and thresholds) for the cost that we would agree for them to pay was an excellent deal his exact words were "Honey all this work for this price" pointing to estimate sheet showing the bottom line price. The husband told me to write the invoice but the member after three hours was still not convinced that she was getting a great deal and stated to questions my measurements and the estimate break down. She then began to ask what the terms of the contract would be for payment? I explained to her that as per our Company's terms and conditions that a 50% deposit is required. The balance is due upon completion unless other financial arrangements have been made. The member informed me that the company that is remodeling their Sun Room addition only required a 25% deposit amount. I explained that I would be willing to accept a one third deposit, one third payment of the total cost the day we start and one third payment after the work has been completed and when they are both satisfied with services provided. The member implied to her husband that at this time I was breaking the law and infringing on their consumer rights. I always thought that according to Home improvement laws 1/3 required at the time of contract when you actually alter the home by attaching new product to the floor or wall of the home for example installing ceramic tile, cabinetry, hardwood, vinyl floor, building a deck or moving walls etc. I thought installing carpet and refinishing solid hardwood did not fall in this category. I did some research and I was told that carpet was definitely did not fall in this category and we can actually request full amount upfront but we always request 50%. In case of sand and refinishing I got mixed responses even from home improvement folks. I researched the internet in the department of labor and licensing and yet have not been able to find a solid answer for refinishing. Therefore to be safe I will consider this same as hardwood and request 1/3 from now on. At this time I tried to explain to the member that we have been servicing the Washington DC Metro for 25 plus years and never have we been known to defraud our customers in any way. Our record speaks volumes to the excellent customer service that we have provided to our previous customers, their families and friends, that have taken advantage of our services. I tried to refer them back to all the reports in Angie’s list. The husband then got upset and started yelling at the top of his lounges why am I sitting in his home in the middle of his living room trying to deceive him and his wife. I was totally shocked with the situation specially to see that he was yelling despite his three year old son in the room. I explained to him that my goal is not to argue, or break the law but to provide a service and these are the terms. At this time I thanked them for their time and tried to gather my carpet samples which I was unable to do because the husband continued to yell at me. As I approached the front door to exit the member walked me to the door an asked if I would have one of my superiors give them a call to explain why our company required a 50% deposit amount? I called my superior Amir explained the situation. Amir explained to me that he did feel very well, had a very tough day, and his child has a 100 degree fever, his dog had a surgery and may not be able to help me. I told him that I have invested so much time with this customer, they are from Angie’s list big deal. I begged him to please talk to the husband and may be he can save the sale for me. He agreed and I handed the phone to the husband. The husband and Amir talk two words before I hear the husband yelling and I quote “stop the B.S. just tell me why are requiring 50% deposit”. Two second would go by and again he was shouting stop the B.S. and just tell me why you are requiring 50% and then he handed me the phone. At this point I knew all my time was wasted. Those of you who are spending your time and reading this please understand that I work 60 to 70 hours a week. I don’t drive any fancy car nor have any expensive home. I am just like everyone else trying to make ends meet in this tough economic time. I am not looking for charity nor pettiness I just want people to treat me as a professional human being. Here is what I don’t understand that the members informed me that they were both highly educated in the law and by them being home owners, they had to know that they have consumer rights to resend a legal binding contract within three business day period. I also know that Angie’s List is a company that will not work with any company that does not back their products. In addition If you read all the reviews in the Angie’s List all those who have used our service they only rave about Aladdin Carpet service. Another fact is that Aladdin Carpet is among the top 3% of all the flooring companies to earn super service award for 2011. Wouldn’t you think that before the members buy the coupon would do their homework, or would you think that this deal was so good that they tried to find something wrong for the three hours I was in their home to convince themselves not go forward till the time I asked for deposit and that is the only thing that 1/3 vs ½ to want to humiliate me. I don’t know. My take is that the husband was truly interested in beautifying their home and the member was more interested in getting even with the previous contractor that took advantage of her family, and if not that particular contractor, then any contractor will do. At the end I am so sorry and with all my heart I apologize if I have done anything to create any misunderstanding. I hope the members will forgive me in their heart and will have a better experience with whomever they choose to beautify their home. I would like to thank them for giving me the opportunity to serve. Please note that to me and the company I serve this situation is A Big Deal.

. The purchase process was straight forward once we decided on a pattern and color. Installation was very professional. We were careful to have most belongings removed from the room in advance. We did have a "new carpet" odor for several days which is probably unavoidable. Overall we were very pleased.
Description of Work: Had wall to wall carpeting and padding installed in our family room. We chose Stainmaster UltraLife grade carpet. Only Stainmaster Flooring Centers carry this grade so we did not get a true price comparison. But compared to a lower grade at another store, the price seemed reasonable.

Description of Work: We were very pleased with the service and results. Bassir spent time with us, ensuring we were happy with our selection of carpet and hardwood flooring. For the hardwood flooring, we were trying to match existing Bruce Hardwood floors in the foyer/powder room area. Bassir brought all of the gunstock varieties to enable us to get an exact match. The result is beautiful, matching the color, grain and layout. The workman took pride in the work, and ensured all of the furniture was put back in its original place and the floors polished to a sheen before they left. For the carpet, the workmen put in long hours to complete everything, clean-up and return the furniture to its proper place all in single day. The workmen were prompt and called the morning of the appt to tell us exactly when they would be on site. We would very pleased with the results and would recommend use them again. We had used Aladdin on two carpet installs at a former house. Carpet installed on stairs from the first to second floor and all of the second floor. Hardwood floors installed in the office, diningroom and adjoining living room.

I am EXTREMELY happy with the quality of installation, the professionalism of the installers, and the quality of the overall product. In short, our carpet looks fantastic. My main concern comes from two miscommunications with the sales staff. At the in home estimate we were told that the top quality carpet and pad would cost $4700. That was a bit more than we wanted to spend and asked to look at other ways to make it cheaper and took a step down on carpet quality (still a high quality product, just not top of the line). We were unclear that our second offer also included a lower quality pad. The price came down to $3700. According to our salesman we were told that this quote included a lower quality pad. A week later they called again to let me know about a private sale and we negotiated the price down to $3500. The final contract did have the lower quality pad listed but I didn't really understand that Sigma 711 was a different product. I was extremely disappointed during installation that the pad was not the antimicrobial hypoallergenic pad that we thought it was and immediately called the salesperson. The cost to add the higher quality pad would be an additional $800. I still can't make sense of this. Our overall cost would have then been $4300 which means that the cost difference between the high quality carpet and the carpet we purchased was 4 cents a square foot! I've worked in sales, I get price bundling and special offers, but this just felt a little smarmy. We went with the lower quality pad because frankly we couldn't afford the other option and the guys had already ripped out all of our old carpet. At several points in our communication with the company I was told that we could pay over 12 months with no interest. I paid half the cost before installation and planned to pay the other half after the holidays which I indicated to the salesman. The week after installation the salesperson called several times but we never connected. I figured that he was calling to check on our opinion of the installation. This week I realized that last month I was charged for the second payment. I assume this is why the salesperson was calling but am extremely frustrated that this was done without even as much as a voice mail; particularly after discussing our intent to pay after the new year exactly one week before being charged the second payment. Fortunately I caught it and paid it before receiving another exorbitant interest charge on the credit card. I'm willing to own a good part of this. I really wish I had asked more questions. I was never crazy about the non-itemized estimates we received and went with them anyway. I later noticed that the sales contract, which was emailed, had the following statement at the bottom "I have read and agreed to the sales and conditions on the reverse side" but the emailed contract was only a page long. I did not get the 12 months no interest agreement anywhere in writing. I took these folks at their word and that is always asking for trouble. If you decide to use this company ask those questions, shop around, get a full contract, and be extremely clear about what you are getting at all points in the sales process.

Having used Aladdin for years for carpet and vinyl flooring, I decided due to their customer service, I would try their tile installation crew. Jang and Fred were some of the nicest, most polite guys I've met on job sites in years. They were thoughtful, careful and creative. They did a bang up job, and when I came in to clean up after and noted a couple of items in the late afternoon (toilet tanks running, and sink stopper not functioning), Aladdin had a qualified person back on site the next morning at 8am to fix them. It turns out one of the items was not even their fault. But they fixed it anyway without charge. You may be a little bit more than the average cost for their services, but it's really hard to beat their customer service. In this area, where time is money, I think I end up saving both time and money by using them. They hold themselves accountable for their work and take pride in it. They are good people, good craftsman and a good company.
Description of Work: A tenant used the shower improperly by not keeping the shower liner in the shower pan for over one year, causing water to run outside of the shower pan and damage the bathroom floor (and ceiling from a lower bathroom and walls). We needed to remove the tile and materials down to the subfloor and replace it all.

We are so grateful to Angies list that they helped us find Aladdin Carpets. What a fantastic experience! Bassir, our saleman, came to our home with samples of carpet and padding. He was a true gentleman, very professional yet not pushy at all. He had excellent suggestions and made us feel comfortable about proceeding with this job after having the same carpet for 25 years!! Every step of the way, he was in touch with us, answering all of our questions and reassuring us. The installer, Mike, and his crew had worked together for years so they were like a fine tuned dance company! They moved from room to room and were so organized and professional. I even felt perfectly comfortable to go out and do my errands, coming back hours later to a nearly completed job! That is something I would NEVER ordinarily do but after such wonderful interaction with Bassir, we knew that he would send us equally excellent installation people and they reassured me that everything would be fine and it was true! I have already recommended them to my best friend and will continue recommending them for years to come! Thanks, Bassir, Mike, and the whole crew! Lynne and Dan

I had high hopes for my estimate with Aladdin as part of an insurance claim for water damage to my basement; however, I spent most of the day waiting for the contractor to show up. He did call--three times, in fact, but was wildly off base in each estimated time of arrival. When he did arrive, I told him to turn around and go home. Unless Aladdin is prepared to make amends for this behavior, I'll not use them in the future.

Response from Aladdin Carpet & Floors
On Feb. 17, 2011 Member called Aladdin Carpet & Floors and stated that he had water damage on his home carpet, and already settled with State Farm Insurance and got check from the Insurance. Now he wants to upgrade his carpet so State Farm recommended Aladdin Carpet & Floors. In response to his needs for carpeting, an inspection and measurement was scheduled for Feb 19, 2011 at 10:00 am. Unfortunatley, on that day it was snowing and the traffic from Rockville MD to NE Washington DC was heavy. While on the road, the estimator made several phone calls to Member explaining the road condition and emphasized that he is on his way and will be there as soon as he can. Finally, when he arrived at the house at 12:20 pm, Member rejected him and did not let him in the house. After that incident, several phone calls were made to Member for re scheduling but he did not respond to any of our calls. We did not pursue anymore since this was a clear indication that Member was no longer interested in our services.

I live in Miami but manage our rental property myself, have for 18 years now, 12 from Miami. I needed to carpet for the 3rd time, but this is the last. I knew I wanted Stain Master, to end the argument. But I had to ask around including here about where to go. Alladin Carpet was the only name that came up repeatedly and positively. I arrived in town, and they were my first stop. While they did not want my shedding German Shepherd in the store, they did realize I needed sound decisions fast. We priced a high end carpet, it was out of my budget. We found a top end pile that was the right color and has enough depth and density to hold up under fairly heavy traffic. The gentleman who measured the property was very kind, as my day got fowled up, but he was there when I was ready, very polite and helpful. We talked about color and cost. He measured in such a way as to allow me the most carpet for the money. The installers were professional, clearly had been working together long enough to have a system. The entire 3 stories, while empty, was indeed done in a day. Since I have a background in all kinds of home repair and construction, I can say they knew what they were doing and did it well and fast.I believe this carpet will stay in place better than the last job. And with Stain Master, I should be able to keep it looking good for at least 10 years now, as a rental....
Description of Work: Very helpful with selection of quality and padding to be purchased, professional measuring with good manners. Quality installation job by experienced people

They are associated with Paul Davis Restoration Company. They handled the tile walls and floors.

We had an appointment for 6pm. We rushed home from work in order to meet with the representative. We call at 6:20pm and the representative says he plans on leaving soon to meet us. Apparently, his manager asked him to come by our house but didn't tell him that we had an actual apointment time and he chose not to ask for the information either. I'm extremely tired of empty promises from contractors and this one did put me over the edge. We told him not to bother to come. According to this company's response on Angie's List, we got a phone call saying that the salesman was sorry he couldn't be there at 6pm, and we agreed to him coming at 6:30. Wow, is that a blatant lie. My husband and I both rushed home for the 6pm meeting so that we could both have input and waited until 6:20 before we called the salesperson and found out he hadn't even left his house. After saying we had a 6pm appointment, the salesman said that the company doesn't even take appointments. Also, we did not get 4-5 calls for a follow-up. We told the follow-up guy that if we wanted to make another appointment, we'd call them and then never called, so no reason for 4-5 follow up calls. After seeing this fantastic tale from this company, we certainly will never use them.
Description of Work: We asked for someone to come over to give us an estimate for re-tiling the foyer and bathroom.

Response from Aladdin Carpet & Floors
The appointment time is set for 6 pm. The sales man assigned for this appointment gets an emergency at 5:30 while he is on his way to the appointment. The store manager immediately changes the assignment to a new salesperson at 5:35. The new assigned sales person calls the only number provided by client and speaks to the member. He apologizes and informs him that he will be at their home at 6:30. The member says that is fine. At 6:15 store manager receives a call from the member that she is very upset and had to rush home and because we were not on time, she did not want us to come at all. Store manager calls the husband next morning and apologizes for the situation and request to reschedule. The member tells him that he will speak to his wife and will let her know and reschedule. In the following days store manager calls the member 4 to 5 times and get the same response. The store manager did not pursue to contact the member since it appeared that the members do not wish our services. We do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused the member and wish her to reconsider. For the last 25 years we have always been proud to keep our appointments exactly at the time we set, however; after this incident and researching found out that other service companies give a window of 2 to 4 hours and sometimes all day from the appointment time. To avoid this issue in the future we will add one hour window to our appointment time which is still better than any our competitors. We thank the member for providing this priceless feedback.

I've worked with Aladdin for years. Nezam treats you like family (the part of the family that you love!). The Aladdin family is responsive, helpful, thoughtful, creative and happy to work within a pre-determined budget. It's a pleasure working with this company and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in high quality work at a very fair price. The customer service and attention to detail is much appreciated.

They did a very good job. They were able to do it without too much destruction of the furniture, which was a real plus. I am going to use them again. I a repeat customer of theirs. The first time they did work for me, they did a good job and that's why I went back to them. They have given me a reasonable price. They haven't done this particular job because of scheduling issues on my end; it's not their fault. I am waiting to have a kitchen remodeled before they do the work.

[This is a REVISED rating.] Aladdin did a good job installing the kitchen floor in 2009 and so I recently called back when we wanted the carpet replaced in the living room and bedroom with a hardwood floor. Over several days I left two messages with the person who had helped with the kitchen. I called the manager when there was no response. He apologized and later said that he had taken steps to correct the situation. We used another company to install the hardwood floor but would consider Aladdin for any future project.

A good experience from start to finish. The whole process went extremely smoothly. Salesman Eddie who came out to measure and provide a quote was professional and friendly and won our confidence. The installation was scheduled for the following week, and the installers (wish I wasn't so forgetful with names so I could compliment them specifically) were prompt, professional and most importantly skilled, and deferred to our preferences while providing guidance when we wanted it. We love our floors and would highly recommend Aladdin.

Excellent, and they kept to the schedule and completion date in spite or our addition of one bathroom to the tile work and their discovery the subfloor in the kitchen and foyer needed to be replaced. They were very clear and informational about the subfloor replacement, and gave us a very good price for the additional work. Otherwise, their work was completely professional, on time and as requested. The result was a very professional job at the prices we agreed to, and they worked with us to keep the price for the work affordable.

On the carpet install we had asked to have one of their better installers. They instead seemed to send a novice crew. While they did install the carpet satisfactorily, they messed up some baseboard in quite a number of places that had been re-painted recently. We had to go through and re-paint all of the baseboard.

Response from Aladdin Carpet & Floors
When this report was posted to our company profile, we went back to our records and found that this job was performed in 1999, not 2008 like the report suggests. While the work was done over 10 years ago, we reached out to this member to see if we could pay for the paint they needed to purchase of if there was anything else we could do. After about fifteen minutes of conversation trying to appease the member, they abruptly hung up the phone. We have received no communication since, but we do want to make the situation right and make the customer happy. We'd also like to thank this member for the criticism because now we inform our customers to paint all the way down before replacing carpets to avoid the baseboards looking ugly in our installation agreement.

They were very good. They followed up on everything. They are a good company. I had a very good first impression with them. They were very helpful, and they did everything we asked. I went with somebody else because of the pricing.
