Unique Refinishing

Felix and his crew were AMAZING. They were professional, hardworking, and extremely accommodating to our schedule. (We had recently purchased the house but were still living two hours away. We also had painters working during the same time period.) We wish all contractors were this good and trustworthy. The floors are BEAUTIFUL. They really made us feel like the house was our new home. Thank you, Felix!!

About a week before work started, Felix came over to give me an estimate. It sounded reasonable so i asked him to proceed. On Tuesday/July 24, 2012, he came over with four employees. Felix explained the process in clear detail, answered all my questions, and gave me a demonstration of how the sanding is done. To help me decide between an oil- and water-based stain, two patches of sanded floor were stained so i could see how the two stains affected the red oak floor. It was immediately clear that an oil-based stain was the best choice. I was impressed by the equipment used for sanding--all dust was vacuumed through a large long tube to a container placed outdoors. When i watched the sanding, not a spec of dust was seen coming out of the machine and Felix said that his men did not need masks during sanding because the process was so clean. The next time i saw them, it was three days later. The second coat of finish had dried and they were getting ready to buff and then apply a third/final coat of finish. But the floor appearance was as good as it was going to get and Felix wanted me to see it. The difference was quite dramatic and I was very pleased with the results. It's obvious that Felix and his guys put a lot of care into getting it to look so good.

Felix and his crew were exceptional. Felix met me at the time we scheduled and gave me an estimate of the work. After checking a few other places I decided to go with his service. Felix and his crew showed up on time and completed the work in less time than originally anticipated. The floors look wonderful, I'm so happy with how they turned out and Felix even gave me a discount - it cost less than what he originally quoted. These guys are great and I would use them again in a heartbeat. Thanks Felix!

oops-- see above for the overall how it went-- we had entry hall, living room, dining room, kitchen, family room and half bath sanded and refinished. The floors were installed 21 years ago so had seen some wear and tear. The team smoothed out some rough spots and sanded, stained, buffed, and sealed as agreed to. Furniture was moved out by them and then put back in place.

I was a difficult customer. I am chemically sensitive, and Felix was very open and responsive to my request to use low VOC products. Since he had experience in using them, I felt completely comfortable with him. He and his team did a great job. We are very pleased with our floors.

I recommended Unique Refinishing to a friend based on Angies List reviews and this is a report for that work. Felix and his crew did a fantastic job and didn't leave any dust behind. The crew was clean, fast, friendly, and professional. The work exceeded my friend's expectations.

I chose this company because of the low dust promise, and it was kept. Felix told me to take down everything I didn't want to risk getting dust on, and I took down all framed photos as well as cloth hangings. In retrospect, I'd have only taken down the cloth. In some places there was no dust, like on top of the thermostat. On others, about a month's worth, but then again, those could have been places I was lax in dusting previously. Felix could not have been more accommodating or professional. He did everything he could to make it easy for me. I had to rent a UHaul for furniture storage, since we have no garage, and he went with me and drove it back. He put enough men on to finish the job in 2 days, and everyone was most pleasant and considerate. The only unpleasant aspect was the smell of the polyurethane, so I'd recommend doing this when you can easily leave windows open for a couple days. The floors look gorgeous! My housecleaner/handyman came a week later and immediately noticed the floors and was extremely impressed. He had another client looking to get floors refinished and asked for Felix's card. He is pretty knowledgeable about house improvements, so I take this as a gold star.

Felix was very helpful and responsive. His crew did a good job of cleaning up. I was very happy with their work overall.

Felix and his team did a first rate job! Floors look like new! The sanding equipment used produced little dust as it was connected to a huge dust collecting system. Used a water based refinishing system and they applied three coats. The entire process, from start to finish, took less than 8 hours and was spread out over two days. Day one was spent sanding and applying a sealer, then two coats of the water-based finish. Day two involved a light sand and a 3rd coat, as well as installing new 1/4 round.

From what we red as far as reviews and after meeting them in person for the estimate we decided to use them. They are very professional, they completed the job online and there wasn't any problem after the job was done.

I could not have been more pleased by this company! Felix, the owner was quick to respond to my initial call (he was on vacation!) and was kind and courteous from start to finish. The wood floor area I had refinished was small and probably not his typical job, but he it treated as if it were his only job. He did an excellent job at a fair and reasonable price.

My hardwood floors were a disaster. I have 2 large dogs, and the floors were scarred, stained - awful! The hardwood runs through all the doorways of our home, so we'd avoided having them refinished because of the enormous work involved in basically moving out of the house. Finally, I called Felix in desperation. Felix arrived exactly on time for the estimate, outlined exactly what needed to be done, and gave me an estimate that was substantially lower than another company had suggested several years before. They moved everything out, sanded, gave us 5 sample finishes so we could choose exactly the finish we wanted, and moved all the furniture back in when finished - WITH felt pads on all the feet! The floors are fantastic! I wan't sure they could manage to make them look good again, but they actually look better than they did when brand new! The crew was pleasant, punctual, professional, and responsive to every question. Felix kept me informed every day about where they were in the process, and had the work timed so that we didn't even need to stay in a hotel.I don't have one negative thing to say about this whole process. The amount of dust in the house is almost negligible - I've heard nightmare stories about the aftermath of floor refinishing, but witnessd first-hand the big vacuum bag that collected all the dust from the sanders - impressive. So - I feel like I have a new house, and would recommend this company with the greatest enthusiasm. They were a pleasure to work with.

My wife and I have wanted to get hardwood floors installed for sometime now. We have used Angies List for referrals on other jobs and have always had a good experience. That's where we came across Unique Refinishing. I called their number and left my number for someone to call me back. I got a call back with in 10 minutes from a very nice gentleman named Felix. Turns out he is the owner of the company. We made an appt. for a few days later so he could give me an estimate. When Felix arrived he gave me the estimate and I said I will give him a call in a few days once I talk to my wife. We decided to go with Unique Refinishing because of all the great reviews they have gotten and after meeting Felix knew he was the right guy for the job. The job took 2 days and the results were everything we hoped for. His crew was hard working and polite. We also want to get hardwood floors installed on the 2nd Floor and will call him when we are ready. Our new floors are fantastic!! Thanks Felix

Felix is a good guy. I'm very pleased with their work. The crew was excellent and very pleasant. They worked hard.

Job and quality of work met my expectations. There were some small indentations in wood that required additional sanding to remove. Stain and trim work were satisfactory.

Felix was prompt in returning my initial call as well as all other phone calls I made to him. He arranged to do the work over a weekend we knew we would be away, which was very convenient for us. The workers were prompt every morning and even arrived earlier than their usual starting time the first day so that I could get to work on time. The floors look great and there was not nearly as much dust as when the floors were finished the last time.

I could not be any happier with this company and their work!! After a recent gutting/remodeling of our family room we decided the floor (from 1970) was in bad need of refinishing and needed it done quickly. I found Felix through Angie's and once again I was not let down. He literally called me back immediately and gave me the price over the phone. I agreed to the work over the phone (trusting previous reviews). They came out just a few days later. Felix called the night before to confirm they'd be there. They were on time, courteous, professional and on a personal note I must say that Felix is wonderful to converse with. He remained on the job to supervise his workers until he was sure they understood exactly what I wanted done and how I wanted my floors to look. I chose this company specifically because of the dustless guarantee. They are not kidding. The room has built ins that had been cleaned prior and when I cleaned them afterwards there was literally no dust on them. I chose a water based finish because I do not have the ability to vacate my home for days. I chose a satin finish (not liking high gloss) and love it so much that I cannot wait to have the other rooms in my house done with the same finish. Felix was upfront about the cost saying that the majority is in the extensive set of of the dustless system. I would not have paid much more if I had had the other rooms done at the same time. Unfortunatley we were not prepared to have those rooms cleared of all furnishings. I paid what some may think is a lot for just one room but had I had the other 2 downstairs rooms done at the same time I would have paid only about $800 more. A neighbor stopped by and viewed their work, loved it and asked for an estimate for his home. As an added note - I was nervous about the new walls, baseboards and the recent painting of the room. They took great care and left not one single mark on anything. Now that is quality work. I cannot wait to have the other rooms in my home done by Felix in the near future. Thanks guys!

All members of the team were extremely professional, skilled, helpful, punctual. The floor in one room was not in good condition after the carpet was removed, but you would never know it now. The work took a little longer than expected, because of that, but the team stayed late, into the evening of that second day, to be able to complete the job by the following day as planned. An honest and reliable company, doing quality work.

They did the entire job in 5 days. The guys were hardworking and professional. My floors look great!!

They were just excellent and I had no problems. Everything was just the way he said it would be. They were on time and they checked and double-checked and everything was great. I give them the highest ratings across the board. We want to get some floors upstairs refinished and I am planning on calling them for the job.

The job took longer than expected because the first final results were unacceptable to me. When I informed the owner that I wasn't happy with the way my floors looked; he immediately assured me that he would do whatever it took to make it right. He came out the following day and refinished my floors again and personally supervised the job. In the end, I was happy with the final results. For quality I gave this company only a B because they had to come back and redo the job; otherwise I would have given them an A. One thing that impressed me a lot about this company is how quickly they return your phone call when you leave a message (less than 10 minutes). This company is very punctual for their estimate appointment and also they show up precisely on time to do the work. Quality workmanship is very important to this company.

I made an appointment for an estimate and they came on time and measured and gave me the price. I called them back about a week later to schedule the work. They picked up the materials for me and were at my house promptly. The staff was friendly and they immediately began the work, moving objects, prepping the floors, vacuuming the dust so they could start laying tiles. It went super fast! The next day, one of the employees custom cut some stairs for me and installed them. I am planning on using them to do my fireplace and ceramic floors in the basement. I would not hesitate to call them back.

After receiving three proposals with very vague contract conditions, I joined Angie's List and found Unique Refinishing. The excellent ratings are well deserved and not exaggerated. My goal was to have my hardwood floors refinished while I was out of town. The experience was the best I've ever had with a contractor, and I've had quite a few projects completed over the last ten years. Felix met with me at the appointed date and time and explained his services including products and his process. He took his time with me and I didn't feel pressured to agree to a contract that day. The contract he sent me was exactly what we discussed. More importantly, everything went as planned. The results are stunning. Felix and his crew did a phenomenal job - from moving the furniture to the clean up and most of all, beautifully refinished hardwood floors, shoe molding, and doorway transitions. Floor boards that needed to be replaced blend very well with the old floors - I couldn't tell which had been replaced until he pointed some out during his follow-up visit. He greatly exceeded the number of floorboards we agreed to in the contract at no charge. Bottom line - on time, on budget, and great results. Felix met with me after the floors were completed to make sure I was happy with the results. I would recommend his company him to anyone. If I could give Unique Refinishing 6 stars, I would!

Felix was amazing, despite the difficultties, which were many and to no fault of his, he was attentive and problem-solved. we ended up with a beautiful product and are very satisfied.

My experience with Unique Refinishing was great. The team was on time everyday... actually early a few days, and finished up ahead of schedule. They provided a high quality work product at a very reasonable price. Felix gave me updates along the way and gave me an honest assessment of the outcome so that I would not have unreasonable expectations. The floors turned out wonderful and you can tell that they did not cut any corners.
