 + -1 moreI have found them to be very knowledgable, professional, and most importantly honest. Although their prices may not always be the cheapest in town, in the long run they are well worth it. This job, as well as any other job I have used them for was completed on time for the exact price quoted.
Description of Work: I have used this company several times in the past and have always been pleased with their work. Most recently, they installed a new water heater and re-routed water lines around the water heater to make it easier to get behind it.

 + 0 moreOverall, the technicians who came to my home were professional, prompt, and courteous. That's where the good part ends. The bad part begins with the "book". Solomon has a fee schedule for certain services the company performs. Other businesses charge on a per-hour basis, not so much with Solomon. The estimate to remove my old faucet and install the new one that I had already purchased was listed in this pricing schedule (re: the book) as $675. $675. Let's think about that for a minute. A job which would literally take them 30 minutes ends up at $675. That's $1,350/hr, folks. A more typical rate for a master plumber would be around $80-110/hr. At that price, I had to escort them out of my home. I was charged $40 for a ridiculous estimate, and they were in my home for 10 minutes tops. Do the math, that's $240/hr for the master plumber and his apprentice who did nothing but sit in my home. Unbelievable. In the end, I found a way to remove the old faucet myself, and putting in the new one took no time at all.
Description of Work: I had hired Bruce Solomon Plumbing & HVAC in the past, and while their price was high, I figured the quality of workmanship and professionalism was very good, and could stomach the cost. I am no longer of this opinion. Solomon's business has a policy of a $40 flat-fee for any estimate, whether you hire them or not. Every other plumbing or HVAC company I am aware of has a free estimate. It's a bit of a scam, since their prices are so incredibly inflated, they literally don't have to do any work in order to get paid. For this particular service, I was trying to replace a single bathroom faucet and could not remove the old one myself. I had already purchased the new faucet, had it on site, but needed some help removing the old one. I wanted them to complete the removal and installation. They did nothing. Literally, absolutely nothing, and I was out of $40. I guess this was my fault, since they had been called in to give me an estimate on a bathroom leak a year earlier, and gave me a ridiculously high number for which I couldn't accept, and again was out $40.

 + -1 moreWe needed a switch replaced on the water heater. They said there was another one that would go bad shortly and insisted that we get both replaced. I don't recall the quote they gave us on the switches, but whatever the quote was it was over $200. We ended up calling the manufacturer and finding out that the water heater was still covered under warranty. My husband went to Home Depot to pick up the replacement and found the switch they were talking about for $10. They also said that there was something wrong with our sump pump. When my husband went to check it out with them, he noticed that it had been unplugged. There was nothing wrong with it.

 + -1 moreYou get what you paid for. They are probably one of the most expensive out there but their work is guaranteed. They will come out very quickly if there is an emergency with anything they have installed. They are pricey but good. They are professional and polite.

 + -1 moreI called at 09:30 in the morning and requested the hot water heater replacement, the company called back at 10:23 and said a plumber would be arriving at my address shortly. (The company is located <10 miles from my address.) About 11:15 two men arrived and quickly wrote up an estimate. I noted to them that two estimates that I received over the phone were for less. They explained the possible reasons and said that they were ready to do the replacement at that moment. They were willing to do a faucet replacement and a line fix in addition to the original request, and it would be completed easily within 3 hours. I told them to proceed. The faucet I selected is very high grade and raised the cost of the overall repair considerably. The repairs were done well within the estimated time and slightly below initial estimates.
Description of Work: Requested a replacement to an 80 gallon electric hot water heater, replacement of kitchen faucet, and a small repair to a water line.

 + -1 moreWork was done in a timely fashion but was only needed because when increased water pressure caused all toilets to run continuously. Price of $321 was very expensive. Told me that water pressure station needed to be repaired but it didn't. Company wanted about $500 to repair/rebuild it. My neighbor came by and tightened the water pressure regulator with a pair of pliers and problem was fixed.
Description of Work: Company was called to fix previous problem; replaced the plumbing inside toilet tank.

We have used them 2 more times since the initial work and have been very pleased. There weren't any surprises in the billing. The estimate was accurate and very fair for the work performed. We were able to get the work done the same week that it was asked for. There is a charge for an estimate that is credited if you have the work performed. They also offer a service plan that will save you money on future service.
Description of Work: They removed an in-line filter that was leaking in the sealing, added new water lines, and plumbed a new in-line filter and connected a new water softener.

 + -1 moreI was happy because he came out within an hour of when I called. I thought he did a great job but I was not pleased with the price. The work only took about an hour and a half and it cost me over three hundred dollars. I would like to shop around more the next time something happens for a better price, but still he did a nice job and was very easy to get a hold of.
Description of Work: He unplugged the drains in 2 sinks and fixed a toilet that wouldn't flush right.

 + -1 moreAfter doing the work they realized that we needed a new expansion tank as well. So charged another $250 for this. I would have preferred this in the estimate. They came back because we had a problem with the limit switch set too high. He was not very happy to be back, but took the time to make sure the limit switch was set properly, so did what was required.
Description of Work: Had a leak in the relief valve of boiler. Pressure was going above 30. They gave an estimate of $850 to fix it. They were reasonable, courteous and did good work.

I was educated as to how my toilet works. They also offer a money-saving preventive maintenance plan, which I believe is worthwhile & purchased.  + -1 moreI deal with America Home Shield. They sent out Stillwell Plumbers who diagnosed the problem, but couldn't fix it. They then sent out Mann's Mechanical, who also said that they didn't do this type of work. AHS then told me to get anyone that I wanted and that they would pay in full. I've been dealing with Bruce Solomon for the past 25 years, and have always been extremely satisfied with their workers, and the quality of their work. Don and Abe showed up right on schedule, evaluated what needed to be done (it was a difficult job due to extremely cramped space) and fixed the problem in 2 hours. As usual, they covered all the furniture and left the room exactly as it was before they showed up.
Description of Work: Replaced section of leaking pipe.

 + -1 moreThe Salesman they sent insisted on giving me a sales pitch to buy a yearly inspection of the pipes in the home. I suppose this means they come and look at your pipes and tell you that it is leaking (as if you wouldn't know your pipe is leaking). No repair work is included in the fee, just the look see. What a racket! After declining to purchase this useless service from him, he quoted me $765.00 to hook up a dishwasher and sink. Please note that all he had to do was tie these in - the supply lines and waste lines were already stubbed through the floor and the supply lines had valves on them. When I asked him if he noticed that the valves were there already, he told me "I know, but I have to charge you for them anyway." This company should send the salesmen out with a gun as their pricing is out and out robbery. I'll bet they get high marks from people for punctuality. I'd be punctual too if I made this kind of money.
Description of Work: This company came out to give me a quote to hook up a dishwasher and sink. They told me the cost to quote would be $40.00. The quote they gave me was $765.00

Description of Work: I had an emergency when my toilet tank cracked and flooded. The turnoff valve did not work so I had to cut off all water to the house. No one I called could come out right away. I found Bruce Solomon on Angie's List. They came right out, and installed a new toilet and a new turnoff valve in very short order.

Work done was excellent; clean up good but they took the old faucet without asking (it was solid brass). I would definitely shop price before choosing this company again, BUT if price was same or close I would choose them.

 + -1 moreThe phone contact was above and beyond polite -- it was picture perfect on how to treat customers. The company had to re-schedule once but was very nice about it. Servicemen arrived on time, were clean neat and explained the work carefully, giving me a written quote in advance of my authorizing the work. Work was completed promptly and successfully. EVERYTHING was top shelf, including the price. That's my only reservation -- $713 to replace a kitchen faucet just SEEMS to me to very, very steep for an hour and a half's work. That's the only reason I wouldn't go back. I have another plumber I've used who I felt was more reasonably priced.
