Very well. Plumber showed up when expected, had the required parts, and in an hour had solved the problem. I have not yet received the bill, but costs for previous calls have been very reasonable. This firm does first class work at a reasonable price, which is why I continue to employ them. They do routine service on my water softening system, and I use them for all incidental plumbing problems.

Originally, I felt pretty good about this company. I am sorry to report that I have changed my opinion of Liberty Pure. Three years ago, they installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system for us for drinking water. It was a little expensive, but it did the job and we have been happy with the water and the system. Note that all of the tubing and couplings are PEX (plastic) – and that’s OK with me. Our well water (no chlorine) is somewhat hard, but perfectly usable for household use. A couple weeks ago, one of the RO system fittings started to leak – more than a drip, a spray that spilled 20-30 gallons before I discovered it. When I called Liberty Pure and sent them a photo of the leaking fitting, I was told that the warranty had expired and that they would send out a tech for a fee. I explained that the fitting is on the ceiling and nobody has touched it in 3 years. No accommodation. So, I had a different plumber replace the faulty part. Before he removed it, we looked closely at the leaking fitting. There were clear signs of chipping of the plastic, which eliminated much of the threaded surface – that’s what finally failed and leaked. When I sent a photo of the damaged fitting to Liberty, I was told that their staff “wouldn’t have installed a chewed up fitting like that” and that it “appears the plastic rotted away.” My research suggests that the PEX plastic fittings DO NOT “ROT.” So, bottom line, it seems that the Liberty installers either used a damaged fitting or damaged it during installation. And – they feel no responsibility for their work after the “warranty period.” That does not seem like a good formula for long-term success.

Unfortunately this part failure was from a rodent, and we do not warranty that. Also we do not warranty the workmanship "labor" of the customer, only when we perform service. Our records indicated we were more than willing to come out and make the repair, just not for free. The "chipping" on the fitting was most likely by a mouse (chewing) that had come in from the cold and was looking for a beverage. These are wonderful people I think we just failed to properly communicate the issue of why we did not offer to come out for free. For that we are adjusting how we address this type of issue in the future. I have reached out to find out what more I can do for these fine folks.

No excuses here, I (Doug Workman, President) sent this gentleman the wrong proposal after a day of seeing 8 customers I mixed him up with another. Since correcting the estimate, we have had no contact.

We shopped the well service companies and discovered that this is a very competitive business. Do your homework first. To evaluate contradicting sales pitches I searched Google and Youtube for days before choosing Liberty Pure. Liberty saved us a lot of money, completed the work on schedule and in a manner consistent with the expert advice we found online. We recommend them.
Description of Work: Liberty sanitized a compromised well, replaced an old filtration system with one that facilitates maintenance, added control check valves, and an effective water softening system w/brine tank, and an efficient UV sterilizer. Liberty argued against several more expensive projects that had been suggested by other bidders.

water heater repair

We were given an estimate of $930, prior to them coming out for the job. After his arrival, everything fell to pieces. The old heater was put in prior to the requirement for an expansion tank. Upon measuring the opening for the spot where the heater was located, it was found to be narrower than the new model water heater. The plumber quoted a price of $1300 as a revised estimate. This included everything. At this point we discussed with him and got an estimate for a tankless system. The cost was too prohibitive for that. We decided on the hot water heater that we were originally getting. (this was about an extra 30 minutes) The plumber left and obtained an expansion tank, he cut and widened the opening to accommodate the new heater and installed the expansion tank and new water heater. After completing a job that took him, at least, two hours longer than originally expected, rather than leaving the Cedar Chest to be returned to the closet after I came home from work, he assisted my wife in putting in back in the closet. Obviously this man and his company understand customer service. That little bit of kindness after a frustrating day for him and my wife does make a difference. I do appreciate it. Note: I put the price as excellent. I realize that a lower price may have been available. This company was worth every penny I spent.

The crew was on time. Polite friendly guys. My wife was home and she said they were all courteous and polite. She was very comfortable with them being there. The drilled through granite countertop and installed soap dispenser and pure water spigot. Matched my sink faucet beautifully! Finished on time, cleaned up and walked me through everything when I got home. The crew was knowledgeable and answered all of my questions before leaving. The owner even showed up to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. This is the business to call to get plumbing or water purification services!!
Description of Work: Tested well water, evaluated pump and plumbing, and recommended water solution. Estimate was less than several others, and this guy did not charge extra for testing. He seems straight up and honest, and gave me a deal a couple thousand less than others. Installed a "neutralizer" a water softener, and a reverse osmosis filtration system for drinking water and the ice maker.

Scheduling the estimate went smoothly and we got a quick turnaround time. The technicians arrived on time and were professional and very polite. They did a thorough examination of our physical layout and explained what they were doing as they tested the water. The lead technician had a somewhat verbose style that was a little hard to follow, but we mainly got what he was saying. We have no complaints about them or the company, but realized after getting a second estimate and talking with an independent water testing lab that we were being pushed to buy an unnecessary whole-house reverse osmosis system that would have cost upwards of $14,000 (and wasted an enormous amount of water, perhaps overtaxing our well in the process) when a lower cost softener/under-sink system would do just fine for our needs. The estimate for the simpler system was buried in the overall estimate, and we could have opted just for that, but found another company offering the same thing for about $400 less, so we went with the other company. I indicated we would not use this provider in the future only because we found another that we liked a little better. I think this is a fine company, but the homeowner has to work a little harder to understand what they are offering and do some homework to be sure it's the best option.

I'm finally done with this company. First came out April'14 to address concerns I had about our pH level-- it kept going below 7.0 shortly after we'd had it filled from a different plumber (2 times in our first year here) and that first plumber had seemed inexperienced on other things as well, so I wanted to find someone who specialized in water treatment. Liberty Pure had great reviews and I really liked them initially. The techs (Kevin and Mike, I believe) seemed very knowledgeable and agreed that our last plumber had indeed made quite a few mistakes. When asked for advice, Kevin suggested a new well tank and a larger neutralizer. Our current neutralizer had been replaced only 2 years ago, by the previous owners but he informed us that this larger one would keep our pH "well above 7.0" and allow us to refill the minerals every 18-24 months instead of around 6 like we had been. I was worn out from too many service calls at this point and grateful to have found someone that seemed like they knew what they were talking about, so my husband and I agreed to do it and they came back a few days later to install, $2,400. Eight nights later there was a bad storm, our basement flooded. We were down there with a large wet vac from 1-5am, vacuuming and dumping on repeat, not able to find exactly where it was coming from for the first few hours. We COULD tell it was from somewhere in the corner closet where the pump/softener/neutralizer are. When my husband decided to try and move our huge softener (must be about 300 lbs) out of the little closet we were finally able to get in there with a flashlight and diagnose the problem. When the techs had installed the new neutralizer, they had spilled (or knocked, more on that in a second) at least a gallon of the mineral solution into a trench that was part of our drainage system, thereby clogging the drainage and forcing all this storm water into the basement instead of along its intended path. The spill was all the way behind the neutralizer which sits almost flush with the floor so you can't see it without moving the softener out of the way. Doug, the owner, came out the next morning and immediately agreed that the problem was their fault. He said that he thought the previous plumber may actually have been the one to spill the minerals initially, as the color was different than what they used (and an inferior product)... BUT that his guys had a responsibility to clean it up when they saw it upon replacement of the neutralizer. We had had several bad storms between other refills anyway with no water in the basement whatsoever, so even if it HAD been spilled by that guy, it had not been knocked into the trench... THAT happened during this recent install. Doug went on to say that they have such a high rating on Angie's List bc they go above and beyond to take care of their customers and that there was absolutely no excuse for his guys to have left that there. He explained though that it would be hard to get insurance to cover it, since surely sometime in the last 40 years there had been water in the basement at SOME point, (though the fact that our basement had no wet smell or visible mold was a huge selling point in choosing this house), thereby making it difficult to assess the damage that this particular incident had caused. He offered to give us $1000 back from the cost of the neutralizer to handle the rest of the cleanup ourselves, should we so choose. Although I certainly would've rather had a cleanup company come, his reasoning made sense to me and we certainly didn't have an extra several thousand dollars to pay for mold remediation if insurance wouldn't have covered it. So in the next couple days-- after MANY more hours of cleanup, pulling out carpet, tossing wet padding, many passes with a rented commercial extractor, borrowing and buying more fans to keep running 24/7 and plenty heated discussions with my husband over the next couple days, we agreed to thank Doug and accept the $1k. Let me stress that I did appreciate the offer - I accepted it right? - but it only covered the cost of what we had already spent, plus a larger dehumidifer that we bought immediately after. And it clearly came NOWHERE NEAR being worth the time/effort/stress involved. Seriously people, if anyone here has had to brainstorm (read: argue) with a spouse on what to do in a situation like this where no option is "good" and all are costly, you know what I'm talking about. Now again, I don't mean to complain about the owner or his offer-- I believe it was made in good faith and we just felt like we were all in a bad situation and had to make the most of it, and I was glad to at least have some money to help with it versus a business owner who tried to deny any responsibility and fight us on it. Who's to say if we would have won that battle, especially if the previous plumber had indeed spilled it initially. My intent is merely to state that we were not "getting over" on anyone for having to deal with this huge mess and then get a grand back to put a dent in the cleanup cost. So imagine my surprise a couple days later after Doug spoke to Kevin, whom apparently copped a huge attitude, saying that he "told us" the previous guy had made a bunch of mistakes and that we "knew something had been spilled all over the floor". Let me now clearly say that while he did tell us about mistakes made, there was NEVER any indication WHATSOEVER that we were being left with any issues to take care of or clean up on our end, due to those mistakes. I get that you don't want your boss to reprimand you but to blame it on the homeowner; is beyond absurd. How on earth we would be expected to know we should clean something up, much less move a humongous h2O softener full of salt out of the way to get to it?? My husband happens to be huge himself, otherwise there's no way he could've moved it. Doug still agreed to hold up his end of the bargain, but he felt the need to pass Kevin's words along first and I felt like his attitude had shifted some. It took him several weeks with reminder calls to send a few smaller checks, but the total amount promised did eventually come through. The whole thing left a horrible taste in my mouth but I didn't really have any more energy to put into it and just wanted to put it behind us. I thought about leaving a mixed review then but since the money was eventually sent, I didn't want to be unfair. The next service call we had to make was a few months later. Kevin and Mike came to check our pH because our pool test kit showed it as a little low, lighter than my kit goes at 6.8. Kevin's demeanor was quiet & short and he seemed to have a chip on his shoulder, which I had expected possible... so I wanted to clear the air. We explained the situation, what we went through with the flooding and aftermath, and said that we were certainly not trying to get anyone in trouble. His response was still short and included reiterating that he'd told us the first guy had made mistakes. When I went into how that does not equate to "and one of the mistakes is still there, can cause you problems in the future so you need to do something about it", his response was "well at least you got a thousand dollars out of it". I'm not going to write what came to mind then but I decided to walk away from it and let the husband deal with the rest of it, which he did... They explained that the pH was fine, our kit's reading was wrong and to "stop worrying", that we wouldn't need to refill for a while. Fast forward all through summer/fall/winter. Come early March of this year it was time to refill, less than a year... minerals were lower than the halfway point and pH was reading low again. Less than a year is far shy of 18-24 months but also much better than the 5-6 the first guy had been doing it, so I was ok with it. We have a pool that needed refilling a few times last summer (2014) and that may have accounted for the sooner-than-quoted refill time with this larger neutralizer. However, we'd talked about the pool *before* they quoted the 18-24 months.. but I will give them the benefit of the doubt here. So they refilled for $199 and left. Again I got a low pH reading several weeks later but when I called, the receptionist asked if I was using cool water (I was) and explained that I needed to use hot to test. So I did and got a 7.0 with the hot, which is supposed to be the bare minimum for copper pipes so it still seemed like it should've been higher after such a short time since filling, plus with this larger neutralizer. But again, we were ok and calling back wasn't worth it. But then last month I thought I'd check the levels and was shocked to find the neutralizer was less than half full! It had been FOUR MONTHS since they'd refilled. How we got almost a year after initial install and only 4 months now, was completely beyond me. But I was DONE dealing with them so husband took over. They arrived this morning, questioned my husband about our water usage and (surprise!) blamed it on us. First our filling the pool. Kept accusing when husband told them we've hardly added ANY water (we actually had to drain water OFF at opening & Baltimore literally broke a record on rainfall in June... and ironically, LAST summer we did have to add some, a bunch of times). Kevin kept going with reasons it was our fault... family of 4 (our kids are 4 and 6, not using much water and AGAIN how does that explain the huge difference between the 2 fills?!) After husband finally lost his temper they admitted they changed the minerals they were using and "that could be part of the problem". I'm skeptical it could make that big a difference but IF that's true then what are the odds this was the issue with the first plumber.. hmm. So. Waste of $2400 and a boatload of stress. I won't be calling again.
Description of Work: Installed new, larger water neutralizer April 2014 *update in response to Liberty Pure's response, 1/2016: HALF of my water tests were perfect, 2 showed the need for refills. The first that did was 6-12 months sooner than we were quoted when we had the neutralizer installed and the 2nd was after only FOUR months--(that's 14-20 months sooner than quoted!). Worse even than that was Kevin's horrible attitude, as described in my initial review. Accountability may not have been denied by the owner for the spill but it certainly was farther down the line by Kevin with the early and ridiculous refills and here in your response where you completely ignore the issues in the entire second half of my review. In the end, we feel highly confident we'd have been way better off sticking with our original neutralizer. I did want to note however that the second technician (Mike, I think?) always seemed courteous, honest and helpful. My guess is had he been our main guy from the start, many parts to this scenario may have been different, and this may have been an A+ review.

I am sorry that you feel you did not you get what you paid for from the work that we did. We were able to get your system installed and did take on some of the fault for not getting the drained cleaned of the mineral mixture that the previous plumber left behind. Our guys are top notch and should have taken care of this, and we have addressed this with them since. As you stated we did try to make things right with you by refunding you $1000 for the clean-up expense and did come out multiple times to maintenance your system over the course of 16 months. As we had discussed your water test were perfect and I am sorry if you were confused that your pH levels would be any higher than 7.5 for the system you have, unfortunately that system only allows for pH up to 7.5. We value our Angie’s List customers and do our best to ensure we exceed their satisfaction, which is why you selected us for your job as you mentioned. You accepted our refund because it was in good faith and we were both put into a difficult situation because of previous poor work from another company. Again we did not deny any accountability and did everything to help you through the situation because we are fair and honest as you stated. We do appreciate feedback from our customers as it does help us constantly improve, and we hope that you will reconsider Liberty Pure Solutions in the future.
