Chimney Cleaning & Repair, Fireplace Installation, Masonry Work for Chimney
A year later, when I was attempting to replace the fireplace doors and begin using the fireplace, the technician from another company informed me that I did not have a damper (which CC said was "fine") nor had CC resurfaced the smoke chamber for which they had been paid $860. I had yet another company look at it and they agreed that CC had not treated the smoke chamber. I have reached out to Complete Chimneys repeatedly since fall of 2013 and allowed their technician to come to my house again in January 2014 to view the fireplace, yet, months later, they have done nothing to try to remedy the situation. This amounts to about $1435 for the unfinished work and the damper that would have been paid for by the owner at settlement if CC had correctly noted it. Because they refuse to even try to make this right, I have no option now but to file a complaint to the Maryland Home Improvement Commission and try to get my money back. This makes me so angry because they have basically stolen my money and appear uninterested in making it right unless I force them. Buyer Beware. The other thing I learned when speaking with the other chimney contractors is that unscrupulous chimney contractors will routinely push chimney and smoke chamber resurfacing regardless of the condition of your chimney. Next time I will require them to take pictures and SHOW me the damage before I sign up for anything. .
Description of Work: I had a contract on a house back in June of 2012. Because the home inspector discovered that the fireplace damper was inoperable I hired Complete Chimneys to inspect my fireplace and chimney (incidentally they were the most expensive of all the chimney contractors I used for inspections). The CC technician recommended about $2700 of repairs they said needed to be done (resurface the chimney and the smoke chamber) but not a word about the damper. I followed up by phone with them because my main concern was the damper and they said reassured me that the damper was fine. So at settlement, the owner paid for the repairs they had recommended. Then they did the work shortly after settlement.

My basement recently flooded so I needed someone to come out on very short notice to disconnect a chimney pipe to move a wood burning stove I had in the water damaged area. After calling around to a few local places (none of which seemed too excited to come out on such short notice), I was able to get a hold of Complete Chimneys. They were booked up the next day as well but they had a service technician call me to talk me through how I could move the pipe myself to avoid waiting/ having to pay for a service call. He had me send him pictures of the chimney pipe and called me back to talk through the different ways to disconnect it. After deciding it was still something I needed a professional to do, they were able to shuffle around their schedule to come out the next morning, removed the pipe, and moved the stove for me. I was very impressed with their honestly and genuine concern to make my job a priority for them. I would absolutely recommend their services to anyone in need of chimney services.
Description of Work: Disconnected chimney pipe and provided estimate to replace and reconnect pipe.

I had a problem with birds getting into my chimney, I called Complete Chimney, and had an appt within three days,. The guy came out took pictures and showed me what and why things were happening and how to fix it. He even found another repair that was needed and told me how to " bandaid it" until I was ready to pay for the repairs! Best thing...NO MORE BIRDS!

provider cleaned up fireplace, glass doors, cleaned the logs. Great job. But - always a but - he gave me an estimate to repair chimney "leaks" he discovered. The total -- $3,300!! I actually laughed at him. I guess in Nor VA there are folks who would rush to sign a contract. This company probably breaks even on the fireplace cleaning and makes it's profit on convincing people they need this service. however, as stated, they did a great job cleaning my fireplace.

They were no-shows for 2 scheduled appointments to estimate repairs, and did not show for scheduled apppointment after deposit was given. Repairs were completed satisfactorily, however equipment inside was unclean for inside home use, and area was not appropriately covered, leaving a layer of soot in entire room that required careful cleaning and $5,000 oriental rug was sent out to be cleaned by Haddid.

Joey came out to do our basic fireplace inspection. He was professional and even sucked up a spider for my wife with his shop vac. They put the drop cloth down, had a look over everything and let me know exactly what was going on. I just bought the house and didnt want to use the fireplace until I had it checked out. Good thing I did! It needs a few repairs and I plan on having them come out again to get everything in working order. Great service all around.

The staff and on site team are very punctual and professional. Everything went very smoothly and I had no issues. They replaced the prefab and verified it worked. They called to inform me that the switch operating the fan was not functional. They verified the fan was functional but that the switch was outside the scope of their work. I was very satisfied and would hire them again.
Description of Work: I needed my prefab fireplace replaced after a very poor pellet stove installation. The pellet stove installer just cut out the prefab firebox and stuck my pellet stove in. Depsite the house being over 20 years old, Complete Chimneys did their research and found a prefab replacement unit to fit exactly into my space with having to rebuild the chimney.

Very professional. The stone mason built a sealed room with plastic around the fireplace and a fan at the top of the chimney to provide negative pressure, resulting in no dust in the house over 5 days of extensive demolition and rebuild. He was very conscientious, even offered to buy wood sheets to cover our hardwood in case I wasn't happy with just the dropcloths (wasn't necessary and the wood floor was spotless when he was done). The stone, chimney, and hearth rebuild came out looking very nice. An expensive job, but I was very happy I hired these professionals to do it.
Description of Work: Extensive masonry work, removed an old rusted hetilator insert, rebuilt masonry fireplace, removed large raised hearth and replaced with flush hearth, redid several courses of stone and sealed top of chimney, installed top damper.

We had intermittent issues with water infiltrating our chimney during very heavy rain, especially when associated with strong winds. We had contacted several siding, roofing and chimney companies, but no one really had a definite answer as to the cause so in the end we decided we had to start somewhere. Complete Chimneys provided us with pictures of the crown and suggested that the leak could be due to slow infiltration through the brick and through cracks that were observed on the crown and offered the crown and chimney sealants. We had several reschedules, though not due to their fault. When applying the sealant, it needed time to cure and we had a fairly wet spring that kept pushing the schedule around. They did have to revisit one time to re-apply the sealant to the chimney where it did not take or was missed, this is why I gave a good for quality. They did this with no hassle and at no charge. In the end, it appears they were correct, it has been about 5 months and we had several heavy storms and no longer have any evidence of leaking. The price for all the sealant seems high, but in the end, it was worth it to have the leak issue solved. Overall, very happy with the service and would use them again!
Description of Work: Performed chimney inspection of masonry fireplace, chimney and gas fireplace. Applied waterproofing to chimney and crown.

It didn't take too long and he left a clear description of what he recommended but didn't put any pressure on me to have the repairs addressed immediately.

I believe they were a little late, but they called to tell me that. They came from other side of Ches. Bay Bridge. No big deal. And they were so nice, explained everything. The young lady who works in the office is also very sweet and helpful. I will be calling them for my annual inspection from now on, hope to have the same good experience and suspect I will.
Description of Work: Relined chimney( flue of oil furnace), caulked exterior of chimney, and applied chimney cap as I didn't have one and needed one. They inspected flues to my two woodburning fireplaces and very honestly advised me that they were in good shape, so I didn't have to pay for cleaning. The stainless steel liner they installed has a lifetime warranty, which is reassuring.

Great experience! Bob Fleer, owner, answered phone and we spent over fifteen minutes talking about cleaning job and what to do about galvanized duct erosion due to condensation and crystallization inside duct (erosion most evident at seams). Bob recommended high temperature tape on seams instead of existing furnace cement (cement cracked immediately after application) or high temperature RTV. Two technicians cleaned oil furnace flue and inspected roof exit pipe. Technicians patiently explained connector duct options, cleaned up and left (no pressure to make decision). Later, I called Complete Chimneys and had same technicians replace galvanized connector pipe from furnace to chimney with stainless steel. Technicians also replaced hanging duct brackets and applied high temperature tape to seams (@$390). Great job!
Description of Work: Swept and removed debris from oil furnace flue from basement, up through two stories and attic, and out roof exit pipe. Inspected system and went over options to prevent galvanized duct erosion from furnace to chimney.

I called for an estimate to repair my fireplace. there are cracks in some bricks and mortar missing. This company states on angies list that they provide free estimates but when we discussed the inside of the fireplace that would cost $120 for an inspection and estimate. Very deceiving. other companies insisted on inspecting inside when I explained what I could see outside. getting an estimate for 1/2 the job is like not getting an estimate at all. Beware if you are looking for a free estimate.

I had been receiving estimates to install a new heating system, and the heating providers were all telling me that there was a leak from the chimney into the furnace that needed to be fixed. Thus, I called this company from Angie's List in order to get an estimate for fixing the problem. The inspection cost $125. They were efficient in their inspection, and explained that a T Bar was needed at the bottom of the liner, and the liner needed to be insulated. This would solve the problem. A few days later two men, including the original inspector, arrived to do the work. It took them most of the morning. I had washed the kitchen floor recently, and I noticed black scuffs on the kitchen floor, but then I noticed that they had cleaned the scuffs up before they left, which I appreciated. When my new heating system was installed, the installer commented on how nice the chimney looked, that usually they have a mess to clean up, and this was absolutely clean. When the work was completed, the in charge man took the time to explain what they had done.
Description of Work: On the first day, the chimney was inspected and an estimate given for the work to be done. On 2/11/13, the actual work was done. A T Bar was added to the bottom of the liner, and the liner was insulated on the outside.

Originally came to clean chimney and fix damper. Damper was not fixable. They took a photo of the top of the chiminey that indicated the cap needed replacing. They ordered a new pop up damper and came back a month later. There was a little confusion about me needing to be at home. Originally I was told it would take 8 hours and I needed to be there for the last hour for them to hook up the chain inside the fireplace. However, it took less time and I needed to leave work early. But they did a good job, got it done, cleaned up after themselves. Price was in the ballpark of other companies.
Description of Work: Old cast iron damper broke off. They put a new cap on the chimney and a pop up damper.
