We became aware of Charis Contractors, LLC, when they replaced shingles on the home across the street from us a year or two before we decided to replace our own shingles. Mr. Wandel was highly recommended by our neighbor. The President, David Wandel, arrived on time to provide the free estimate. He answered all of my questions regarding replacing the shingles, gutters, gutter guards, and downspouts. He reassured me regarding the shingle installation technique when I voiced concern regarding a portion of the roof that had repeatedly lost shingles in high wind. When asked, he discussed the advantages of different grade/warranty levels of shingles. He also responded to questions regarding increasing the size of the gutters and downspouts. He was particularly patient with my selection of the roof shingle color. He first provided the manufacturer's sample board of shingle color selections. When I narrowed the color selection to two, he provided actual samples of the shingles and provided the address of a home with one of the color selections. The written proposal with additional options was provided within a couple of days. Mr. Wandel kept us advised of all steps of the new material delivery, and old shingle, gutter, and downspout removal, as well as the installation process of the new materials. We were extremely satisfied with all aspects of our interaction with Mr. Wandel, Charis Contractors, LLC. He provided information without pressing us for higher grade/more expensive materials. He personally inspected the roof, and regularly monitored the job's progress and material installation. The work was completed in two days, and all trash/debris was removed. I have recommended Charis Contractors, LLC, to friends and fellow office workers investigating similar roof/gutter inspection/replacement.

In February 2014 a tree fell on my house during and ice storm. Charis contracting came out to my home to evaluate if the damage right after the storm even while the tree was still partially on the house. There were no noticable damages caused by the tree. Charis didn't charge me anything for the evaluation. In May, I had a contractor repair the gutters and found a small leak in the roof and the contractor offered to explore and repair the leak for approximately $700.00. I called the Charis Contracting since they originally evaluated damages to the room. They quickly came and identified the source and repaired the leak for the cost of the home visit, $75.00. Due to the tree falling on the house a nail had lifted and allowed some water to come into the house. Since the repair there have been no more leaks! Charis did an awsome job and were fair and honest. I would recommend Charis to anyone who desires a company displaying honesty and integrity.

He came out, it was raining and miserable. He got up on the roof and tried to fix the roof despite the conditions. He did fix the problem and he even followed up with us the next day to make sure everything was okay.

Just a few days before Thanksgiving an area around my bay window began to leak. It’s drip was almost a steady stream. When I contacted the roofing contract that completely replace my roof just two years ago, I was told they could not get out to check it until the Thursday after Thanksgiving (more than a week later). Unfortunately the weather report said the rain would continue for 2 more days. In desperation I contacted Charis Contractors, LLC, a roofing contractor that did repairs and indicated they had a Better Business rating. I was told that Dave Wandel would be here at 4:00 that day and he was. After examining the roof in the rain he thought the problem existed in the roof that had been replaced by the previous company. He placed a flashing at the spot where the problem existed and told me it would continue to leak for about two hours however I notice a great reduction in the drip before he left. I was not only grateful, but more than pleased with the charge of only $75.00. Early the next morning the phone rang and Dave was calling to see if everything was OK and I was thrilled to tell him the leak had stopped completely and how much I appreciate his help and that he would follow up to see that everything was fine.

We learned about this company from the next door neighbor, who was also replacing their roof. I had received an estimate from another company that I had worked with before and was going to hold off on doing the roof due to their higher price. However, Charis offered a discount if he could do both roofs at once, and the price was about half what the other company had quoted. 'Charis isn't the best at scheduling things in advance. I had tried to set up one appointment, but they didn't show up and I had to leave. They called a second time because they happened to be in the area; fortunately, I was able to leave work to meet them at that time. Everything was explained to me and the price was right. I received no advance warning of when the roof would be done except for an email the day of installation. I was out of town at the time and thus couldn't be on site while they were working. This was certainly annoying. The work seemed well done but it hasn't rained since the install, so we'll see if the roof holds up. I would probably hire this company again as long as they can provide better communication next time.

They did not have anything to run my credit card with at the time so she asked me to write my credit card information down. It has been 2 days now and I still do not have a receipt from them and they still have not ran the credit card. I am worried now because he has my credit card information and wont give me a receipt. I have called 3 times and they still wont get me a receipt. He snapped at me that last time I called him.

After first consultation and possible repair solutions, I never heard from them again. I left contact information with home phone (caller ID, Voicemail, Answering Machine), cell phone and email...never heard from anyone at the company again. Spent many hours researching for other companies once more; Next Contractor inspected the roof, siding, house fully; found the source of the leak by removing the siding and repaired the job to completion in December to a cost of roughly $3,000. The type of siding could not be resued once it was removed so this was a fairly decent sized job including fixing issues from original Builder's mistake which directly caused the leak that was very and immediately obvious the moment the original siding and Tyvek was removed. They repaired, resealed, put in all new sealing and waterproofing around window and exterior wall, found siding match, then color match painted new siding and installation of a large portion of the exterior side of the house. In this economy it is a true wonder that such a simple but substantial repair project would be dropped so quickly. We spent a total of $4,000 between all the companies with initial simple fixes and rain spouting rerouting. I would think a job this size would be a huge loss to a contractor in revenue as well as reputation as we have many potential extensive projects/improvements to our home that we plan on completing in the next few years. In total 6 companies were contacted regarding this work; several of which had good standings on Angie's List; some of the larger roofing/siding companies didn't want to take on repair work at this time and some companies the repair seemed beyond their capabilities even though upon multiple inspections and correspondence they informed me they were quite ready and capable of finding the source of the leak and performing the job to completion. After some quick fixes some contractors decided it was over their heads even though they knew the hunt for the leak and repair project was supposedly familiar to them. 6 contractors, 8 months of work, research, time, and $4,000 later (not including the cost of subscription to Angie's List to find the contractor) the repair is completed. It was a simple but costly repair, not to mention the immense time I wasted in the hunt to find a contractor and response time. Again, a huge loss for those that could have easily done the work in both revenue and reputation. Charis Home Improvements may or may not do good contracting work, but they didn't stay with the job long enough for me to find out. I gave Charis an A in punctuality for the one appointment they did complete, as the initial consultation was quite speedy. 4 of the contractors that were contacted had good reports on Angie’s list; 3 dropped the ball. $4,000 is not petty cash...is it really that hard to find a repliable contractor or repair company that wants to work or make money?

Dave Wandel met me at my house at the agreed time and date, and gave me a written estimate on the spot. The work was performed in a professional manner. There was a supervisor on the job during all phases. They had a worker dedicated to picking up debris that fell around the house, and left the premises generally clean upon completion. My only complaint is that it took a month for the work to begin once the contract was signed. Additionally, I have requested a siding quote from Dave. He came out and measured over a month ago, but I haven't received a quote yet. They are definitely worth using, but you need to be patient.

I was referred to David/ Charis by my neighbor Jaime, who I believe is part of the company. They did a roof patch for me a few months before the replacement, and their price was half of what others quoted me ($200, others said $400 - $450). Their price on the roof replacement was also thousands of dollars less than other quotes I received. David's easygoing and no-pressure to deal with, and the only major snag was that Charis did not have the shingles I requested in-stock, and David didn't tell me that until the day of replacement was upon us. This delayed the replacement overall which was disappointing because I was heading out of town and the rescheduled roof replacement would need to take place when I was away. Their price on solar attic fans and solar tube skylights is also $300 less than other companies quoted me; because their prices were so low I was able to add 2 of each to the roof and still come in for several thousand dollars under what their competitors offered. I have no complaints about the finished job; they cleaned up after themselves and the roof looks great.

Very prompt, reliable, responsive and professional. Called to make appointment for estimate, came by at stated time and work was completed within a week, exactly as quoted. He also checked all my gutters to be sure they were running clear, which they were. It just rained today and all was dry inside and gutters ran clear. Definitely would use them again - very satisfied.

They were very professional and efficient. They cleaned up better than it was before they got here, and their price was extremely better than the other three companies I had give me estimates. I was just extremely impressed.

Dave came out and gave my wife an estimate which was competitive with other companies we had contacted. Dave arrived early in the morning of 08/01/06 with a full crew, work began immediately by 1800 the new roof had been installed and the yard was clean, it was like it never happened.

They stopped by and gave us an estimate and I didn't really talk to them that much.

Overall, it was a positive experience. Mr. Wandel was fairly good about responding to phone calls and questions and provided a range of options for the work. He was willing to negotiate (he threw in a new front gutter), but we had to follow up a couple of times to get an actual date for when he would do the work. The job was finished in one day, and the result looks great. The only real complaint is that when the workers were tearing down the old roof, a piece of slate landed in an azalea bush, which effectively killed half of it.

The price was very competitive, the service was prompt, and the quality of the work was very professional. The owner worked with us well on scheduling issues.

Several large roofing companies told me they could not handle my job, and that it was to complicated. Several other contractors tried to rip me off with very high prices. Mr Wandell took the time to explain to me exactly what needed to be done, with his expertise I was able to get all of my roofing work completed in a timely manor. Mr. Wandel was on the job every day and his crew was very professional. His prices were much lower than all of the other prices I received, he is the only contractor that did not try to rip me off. I am very glad and satisfied that we used Charis Home Improvements to do this job.

The problem wasn't fixed and now I can't get hold of him. I've left several messages and he hasn't called me back.

VERY SATISFIED WITH ALL ASPECTS OF THE JOB FROM START TO FINISH. ALSO WAS VERY SATISFIED ON THE CLEAN UP AFTERWARD. MEN WENT THROUGH FLOWER BEDS LOOKING FOR NAILS, AND DEBRIS, AS WELL AS USING MAGNET ON WHEELS TO GO OVER ENTIRE AREA.
