My existing doors were not a standard size so the provider had to change the existing framing to meet the new door size. My existing doors were also wooden and I wanted to go to something easier to take care of. Since the doors are custom .made, it took 2 - 3 weeks to come in. The work was done over 2 days - one to rebuild and paint the framing and one to install both of the doors. The work was done perfectly and anyone who comes into my kitchen comments on the beautiful sliding door.

It went very well. Nice quality windows, nicely installed, professional crew, owner onsite. No problems. Would definitely use them again.

They were amazing! Dayson responded to our initial call right away. We set up a time for an estimate and he was prompt and prepared. LS&G blew away our previous estimates. It was, literally, half the cost of other companies. We had read in previous reviews not to be surprised or skeptical when his estimate came in. LS&G is a smaller privately owned company that doesn't have a lot of overhead costs. It took about 4-5 weeks to get our window and doors in which is exactly the time frame he had given us when we initially met. We were converting a flat picture window to an angled bay window so we were a little anxious. Our anxiety was a waste of time! Everything was perfect! They crew arrived and dug right in removing our existing front window. Within hours we had a beautiful new bay window. During the installation, they realized we were going to need an extra bottom trim piece to cover where the old window had been so he just ran out to the store and grabbed it. In our case, everything fit like a glove. It couldn't have gone smoother. As they were wrapping up the window, one of the guys got started on our front door and storm door. Again, everything was a perfect fit! We now have a beautiful steel and glass door with a matching storm door where an old 1980's white warped door had once been. The original slider off the back of the house had been installed during a remodel 5 years earlier but it became clear that it was of poor quality. Dayson said it should still be under warranty and we should contact the builder so that we didn't have to foot the bill for a replacement but we just decided not to bother. It was done terribly the first time so we weren't holding out hope that it would be any better the second time around. We asked LS&G to include a brand new one (along with some carpentry work around the frame) in the estimate. We now have the quietest sliding glass door I've ever had the pleasure of opening! The last thing we had done was some trim work around 2 doors leading to the outside. They had been replaced and were fine but no one bothered to trim them out so it looked unfinished. It drove LS&G crazy so they just trimmed it out while the rest of the crew was finishing up the window out front. The entire crew was great to work with. My husband is a police officer so we are very careful about who we have in our home. We would have LS&G back anytime! In fact. before he left he gave us an estimate on converting our screened in porch to a 3 season room.

Very well. His workmen came at 8:30 A.M. and were finished at 12:30 P.M. We are recommending Larry Schafer and Grandson Contractor to our son and daughter-in-law when they have their windows replaced.

From initial contact, meeting, scheduling and follow up, Dayson was a pleasureto work with. Professional and personable to communicate with, and punctual and efficient completing the work in our home. 8 windows were installed in about 6 hours. Also, during our first meeting Dayson had pointed out the opportunity to improve the look and life of the bump-out and trim on the outside of the windows, so we agreed that he would also install flashing around these areas--and the finished product looks great. Pricing was comparable to 3 other vendors we interviewed. Actually a bit less considering they also did the flashing on the exterior--something no other vendor offered to do or mentioned at all. Dayson was referred by a friend so he already had a leg up. But our decision to go with his company was reinforced by his price, professionalism, and small-company, hands-on service approach. During installation there was some minor drywall damage near one window, and one sash had been shipped with a crack. The team immediately pointed these out to us, made a plan to correct, and about 2 weeks later returned to replace the cracked sash and at the same time patched the damaged drywall, which we had planned to paint shortly after anyway, so it worked out perfectly. Great experience overall.

Efficient and professional installation team. Site prep and clean up were impressive. Project began and ended on time, on budget.

The quote was for $10,000. One of the owners came out and gave us a quote. We decided for a variety of reasons to go with another company. They came and we talked to them, looked at what we wanted to have replaced and gave us a quote. I called them back in a few days and told them we were going to go with another company and the reason why. One of the big reasons we decided to go with another company, was their presentation. It was a bit unprofessional and a lit lax. That kind of told me that maybe these guys aren't going to be quite professional when it comes to actually doing the work. For my house, I want people to come in and take the job seriously. The price was quite good actually. It was a nice guy. He came in here and looked at all the windows. The presentation wasn't quite what you'd expect from a professional company. The interaction we did have with them was quite good.

I could not be happier. They were professional, fast and by far the lowest bidder.

I am very happy with the result, the new doors makes it seem like walking into a new house. All weather stripping is sealed properly, door closes with positive seal, no slop, all caulk joints are clean and look professionally done. I recevied a quote over a year ago, had to have some emergency repairs done to my house so I waited on the doors. They still accepted work from the original quote. They have done some work for my inlaws as well, all work I have seen is top notch. I look forward to having them back for the rest of my doors.

The experience was excellent. Their care and level of professionalism in installing the windows really stood out. Watching them they were very careful from the beginning taking the old windows out to the end when they were caulking. Everybody had their job and did their job very professionally and with a lot of care to my complete satisfaction. Their price was pretty much with everyone else.

They were excellent. They came right out, they measured, and it took a couple of weeks to get the window custom-made. They were there within two weeks, promptly put it in, and cleaned up the mess. They made it tight and sure that it was a good window. However, a couple of weeks later, I could not shut the window, so I called them, they came back promptly, and made a couple of adjustments. I don’t why all of a sudden it didn’t shut, maybe because of humidity or something. I was impressed that they came right away and fixed it. They were willing to do one window, which a lot of companies don’t bother with. I liked that the window was made here in Baltimore and they used high quality material. They worked quickly, because I had to take time out of work, so there were in and out in a couple of hours.

Mr. Schaffer did not get back as hoped on one occasion, but the job they did made up for this.

We wanted to replace our 40 year old aluminum framed windows with new energy efficient windows. We contacted three vendors from Angie's List including Larry Schafer and Grandson. Dayson, Larry's grandson, came out to measure our window openings and brought a sample of the Acadia 800 series product. I immediately felt the sincerity, knowledge and care of his demeaner. Since our windows were a bit unique, Dayson needed to get pricing from Acadia before giving us a quote. The other two vendors gave us a quote on the spot, so I was a bit disappointed that I had to wait, but it was worth it. It was just before Thanksgiving and Acadia was closed for a couple of days, so we didn't receive the quote for about a week. We wanted to upgrade the "Contemporary" style of our house and Dayson suggested some alternative window configurations that actually saved us some money. The old window frames were brown and we never liked the look inside our house. Acadia was able to provide windows that are dark brown on the outside, and white on the inside. This worked especially well with our HOA, since we were able to maintain the brown outside, and have a new fresh white look inside. Our second choice for a vendor could not provide the brown/white combinations, and were a bit more expensive so we ruled them out. We have sliding windows in our house consisting of 6 large (6'x4') "stacked" units plus 5 single sliding windows. The stacked unit consists of a slider on top of a picture window (non-opening), assembled as 1 unit, however all three manufacturers treated them as 2 windows. By selecting full size sliders, for some of the windows, we saved money, and ended up with a more contemporary look on the front and side of our house. The difference was greatest with the other vendors, but I liked the Acadia window quality the best, and they are made in Maryland, which paid off during installation (more later). Overall, the installation went very well. Travis, Charlie and one other craftsman came out for the demolition and installation and Dayson came by later on. Nothing goes perfectly, but in the end, the windows came out great. One of the sashes had a 2" crack in the glass, which was noticed after it was installed, and because Acadia is local, they were able to order a replacement which was available in 2 days. During the removal of the old windows, our kitchen window sill (made from the same silestone as our countertop) cracked, so Dayson came to the house, despite being under the weather, to look at the piece. He immediately, contacted the manufacturer, drove 30 miles to their plant and fortunately, despite the material being discontinued, they were able to find a piece in the warehouse! He ordered a replacement sill and covered the $200 cost without question. The windows were installed in less than 2 days, exactly as Dayson planned. We scheduled time for the replacement sash, and sill for 3 days later. During that time I decided to replace the remaining window sills, which were a old looking marble, with solid oak. I had the new sills cut to fit and stained them, and Dayson and Charlie came out as scheduled and installed the replacement parts and sills. However, my "cut to fit" new sills turned out to be too big, and Dayson was kind enough to cut them down to size and install them at no extra charge. We are very pleased, and highly recommend Larry Shafer and Grandson

Dayson came to give me an estimate for two sliding glass doors. He was very professional and answered any question that I had. He explained that the company would have to change the framing due to differences in the door measurements. The men who came to do the installation wer excellent. The doors were completed, the framing, changed and the doors look beautiful. I have received many complements on the sliding glass doors - from neighbors, family, and friends. The only negative I have was that the doors came in about 2 weeks later - but that was not due to Larry Schafer and Grandon, but rather due to the door distributer. I would highly recommend this company for any window and door needs. In fact, I will be contacting them for addidtional needs this spring.

As always a terrific job by Dayson Schafer and his crew. I've had windows and doors replaced and now my front siding. I'm always impressed and happy with their craftsmanship and skill. Dayson is very courteous and friendly and gives fair and honest assessments for each job. I would highly recommend Larry Schafer and Grandsons and will use them for future jobs.

Dayson (grandson) came out and gave us an estimate. We had had several other contractors come out for estimates and none were as knowledgable and professional as Dayson. Cost was comprabable to the market. I knew of Larry Schafer, Dayson's grandfather from the past and based on positive reviews at the time we decided to use Larry Schafer and Grandson. On the day that we had scheduled Dayson arrived on time with 2 other employees. All windows were removed and replaced in the same day. They all respected our home and they cleaned so well you would have never known they were here. Would use Larry Schafer and Grandson again and would highly recommend them.

Although we ultimately went with another company, Dayson was very polite, professional, and represented his company well. I will certainly consult him in the future.

Well, I thought that the owner, Jason Schafer was so courteous. He was so considerate. He followed up and gave me some information on what to do with the gutters and roof, etc. He just impressed me from the very beginning. He knew what he was talking about. He seemed like a fair person. He was local. He gave me this information and gave me a number to call about the windows that were made locally. I did talk with about four or five other people, but he was the one who impressed me the most. He was the best priced too. They were responsive and called me right back. They got here at the time they said they would get here. They introduced themselves and addressed my questions and concerns. They got the work done and cleaned up after themselves. I would definitely recommend them. I would use them again in the future.

They do a great job; they are reasonably priced and efficient.

All in all it was an excellent experience from beginning to end! Besides having great ratings from Angies List my dad had used the company many years earlier with excellent results. Therefore, I felt comfortable calling them for an estimate. Within a couple of days of my call, I had my estimate and timeframe. They said it would take three weeks to make the custom window. After three weeks I called to inquire if the window had come in. The next day (yesterday) I was told that the window had arrived and that they could install it the very next morning. As a big storm was coming I was very anxious to get my leaky window replaced. This morning they showed up at 8:30 a.m. right on the dot as promised. In less than two hours the window was in and everything was cleaned up. They also installed a large window flower box under the new window for me. Before leaving, I asked that my front door be looked at. The lock was not working because of a misallignment of the door. For no extra charge the door was also fixed to my delight! Very polite owner and crew. I wish that all of my home improvement project could go so smoothly and professionally!!!

The job as described above was part of our overall kitchen renovation. Though we are doing most of it ourselves, we wanted to hire a professional for installation of an exterior entry door. I wanted to hire a small, local business to perform the work, mostly to get the personal attention that sometimes is not found with bigger companies. The job was fairly straight-forward and I didn't want the hassle or run-around from some big home renovation company trying to sell me all new windows. I found that by searching Angie's List by Distance instead of Highest Reviews, I could locate the smaller local contractors instead of the ones with 100+ Angie's List reviews. When your contractor is located close-by, it is easier for them to be accommodating which is mutually beneficial. Just my 2 cents...getting back to the review: I contacted Dayson Schafer, who now runs the business, in Feb 2012 after finding him on Angies List. At the time, his office phone voicemail was down due to an issue with comcast, so he didn't get the voicemail I left him. I persisted and tried his cell phone number (410-925-2232) which was also listed - I got through and he was grateful that I persisted. I understood, as the circumstance was out of his control. I scheduled an estimate with Dayson for a few days later. He was on-time, extremely professional, and candid in describing the process. He described that he works with a small crew and that he would be present for the installation. They do mostly all doors and windows. I felt comfortable with everything and was excited to hire him for the job. We discussed various door options, and I received an estimate for each later that day via email. I was satisfied with the pricing, but needed to decide between french doors and a sliding patio door. We didn't have any manufacturer preference so we went with Acadia, which is a Baltimore based company that Dayson typically uses. To help us decide on type, he suggested we go to the Acadia showroom to try them out. He was very helpful, providing us the location, hours, and point of contact. When we arrived, he had already let them know that we were coming, who we were, and what we were looking for, making everything very easy. We ultimately decided on the french doors. They were ordered and had a 3-week delivery time. I contacted Dayson after 4 weeks and he said the doors were in. We scheduled the install for a few days later. On the day of install, a crew of 2 guys showed up on time in the morning. They got started, and I left for work. I heard from Dayson soon after and he reported that everything was going well. They were all finished before I got home that evening. Everything looked great! Everything was performed as described. The area was clean. I couldn't figure out part of the dead-bolt and called Dayson that evening and he explained it. The screen doors were back-ordered. I got around to contacting Dayson about 2 months later and he came out next day and installed them. I cannot state enough how professional Dayson is - he is always helpful and pleasure to deal with. He was easily reachable by phone or email. Anytime I had a question, he would respond within a day. Even recently, I had a question about removing the screen doors and he responded quickly and offered to come help with it. I highly recommend him for your window or door project!

The end result is that we have 6 new doors all of which look very nice. The crew does quality work. Our experience with Dayson was overall very positive but we did sometimes have trouble getting in touch with him and getting a few details finished on the job. In the end we finally got all details resolved but it took a few extra phone calls than we expected. We also recommended him to some friends who had him replace windows and they are very satisfied with his work.

I'm satisfied. Job looks good. Some nails left around. But overall they cleaned up after work. They came when they promised and did the job in a respectable amount of time.
