Our Kitchen is set to start in late September I will then let you know how our kitchen project went.
Description of Work: Jim showed up to give us an estimate to remodel our kitchen. I was very impressed with his knowledge and his presentation. He is a one stop shop we didn't have to run everywhere looking at cabinets and countertops. Jim brings everything to you he pays attention to everything that you would like to do and also adds great ideas. He then puts it altogether on a computer layout so you can see what your kitchen will look like and you can change or add things as you go until you get what you like, he is the only contractor that did this everyone else wanted us to run everywhere and met with other people.

Jim Mittelkamp was responsive and thoughtful as he visited our home to listen to my ideas for our full kitchen remodel. He provided full computer drawings of his design ideas, which we then revised several times. He was patient and came up with a wonderful plan that none of the other estimaters thought of that has turned out beautifully. He took me shopping to choose floor and backsplash tile and granite for the countertops. He works with a unique custom cabinet line and the tradesmen who came to do the plumbing, carpentry, electrical and tile and painting were all professional and wonderful to work with. We actually left town for two of the four weeks they were working. It is hard to live through a kitchen remodel and put up with the disruption and noise. The workers cleaned up every day when they finished. They put up plastic sheeting to seal off the rest of the house. We had a radiator removed and replaced with a toe kick heater that freed up space. A cabinet and bulkhead were removed to open up the kitchen to the dining room. New subflooring and tile were placed. Crown molding was added to kitchen and dining room along with new drywall ceiling throughout. While we were away, Jim regularly sent pictures of the progress and called a couple of times to check in or confirm details. That is one of the best parts of working with JJM Services- Jim is a communicator. He calls, texts, emails- stays in touch every step of the process, and is accessible and responsive. I had three other estimates but feel the personal touch that Jim provides has given me a unique, custom design in my kitchen. We love the finished product and recommend JJM Services without reservation.

I talked to Jim for about 20-25 minutes over the phone as he helpfully described and explained the problem and was patient while I took measurements to answer his questions so that he could help better. He referred me to someone and was very knowledgeable and took me seriously and tried to help as best as he could.

When I decided to remodel my kitchen I contacted a contractor who's work I trusted. He referred me to JJM Services to do the designing. Jim Mittelkamp met with me on several occasions to discuss ideas, styles, colors, purpose and functionality. His expertise was readily apparent from his years of experience. He came up with great ideas throughout the planning process. He had a multitude of actual cabinet samples and volumes of brochures, booklets and catalogs. He took me to retailers and distributors to look at different types of countertops. After we decided on a general design he provided visual images using computer software which we then tweaked until everything was perfect. The end result is sensational and better than I could have imagined.

Work contracted and not yet completed. We want our 31 year old kitchen replaced (what a process!), and found this contractor on Angie?s List. We contacted Jim of JJM Services, as well as one of the national home improvement retailers. Jim promptly set up an appointment for the initial consultation, and had a proposal and estimate for us in a few days. He has worked diligently with us to adjust the scope of work according to our preferences, which evolved as we learned about options in cabinetry, countertops, and more. He has always been mindful of our budget. His service has felt personalized, as he took us on several trips to showrooms to view various options and has promptly brought samples to our home over several trips as we finalize our materials order. He very generously shares his considerable knowledge about materials and the remodeling process. Throughout, Jim has been thorough and communicative, responding to every inquiry, and always keeping us informed.
Description of Work: Contracted work is for full kitchen remodel: provide original design; tear out existing cabinets, countertops, sink, etc; install new cabinets, countertops, sink, faucet; install all appliances (purchase separately); install lighting and necessary circuit and receptacles; replace existing switches and receptacles; install new pantry shelves; paint room casing and base trim; paint walls and ceiling of kitchen and dining area.

Great job!
Description of Work: The contractor designed plans for a remodeled kitchen, gutted the existing kitchen, installed new cabinets, electrical, and plumbing upgrades. The contractor also installed a new floor, tile and a granite countertop with a new sink. Removed an existing wall and installed a new pass-thru with a counter top. The room was also painted and the existing ceiling re-finished. The kitchen also had a new oven and cooktop installed by the contractor. The entire job took 3 weeks to do from start to finish. The contractor handled all phases of the job in a very professional manner. The contractor made a very special effort to keep the construction site clean at all times, there was no clean up at the end of the job! The job went very well, no surprises. The contractor kept me informed all the time and all the trades who worked on the job did an excellent job! I plan to hire the contractor for a future project. All my company that visits my house is very impressed.

[member name removed], You have been a Great Customer! Thanks for your support. I really enjoyed working with you. I think your new kitchen really "fits" your home now. And I am glad your daughter was able to assist from afar; her suggestions made a big difference. Your project was the fourth in a row in which we took a wall down; what a difference it makes!! I called on 11/6/13 to inquire about a new kitchen counter top and ceramic tile backsplash. He said that he would consider a small job like this because I found him on Angie's list and would appreciate the review. He had an opening that evening at 6:00 and I was so excited, I had my sister meet him at my house, because I knew that traffic would hold me up. My sister knew exactly what i wanted, and was even prepared for a deposit if needed. I arrived very late because of horrible traffic accident of 695, and was surprised to see that he was still there. He said that the kitchen "was much more complicated that it looked". He went on to explain in very lengthy detail the scope and difficulty of the work to be performed. It was quite obvious that he did not want anything to do with this job. Some of his more interesting quotes were "Just my ceramic guy makes $600 a day", and "Just to deliver the countertop would be $150". He said that I probably didn't realize how much things added up, such as "I have to move the refrigerator, I have to pull the stove out". My favorite quote was " You want the debris and trash hauled away after the job, right?" Every common sense item was explained as if I thought counter tops replaced themselves. I finally interupted him and pushed for a quote and he said "Maybe $1,500, but I can't really see this being done for less than $2.000" I replied that a price with a 25 percent margin of error wasn't acceptable, and that I wanted a written quote. As he was leaving I said, "Sir, you seem like an ok guy, and I know I'm a woman, but did you really think I expected you to kneel on my stove and replace the backsplash? Or squeeze behind the fridge to do your work? Wasn't some of that stuff just common sense?" I gave him my email address and am still waiting for his quote. I haven't heard from him since.

My first full year with Angies List has been very rewarding. I enjoy the Angies List Code of Conduct expected between a Kitchen Business like mine and and the customers who come my way. Obviously I came far short of what is expected of me in this instance. I sincerely regret the harm and bad feeling I have caused this Angies List customer. JIm Mittelkamp

We contacted JJM Services, LLC because of their excellent reviews on Angie's list and were not disappointed. Jim Mittelkemp, owner of the company, came to our home, sat down with both of us. took time to listen to what we expected from our new kitchen and designed it beautifully. The work started as scheduled - the kitchen was demolished and all debris removed immediately. The carpenter, John Smith, did all the prep work and installation of our new kitchen cabinets, appliances, including the removal of the old outside vent and installation of a new microwave which was vented to the outside wall. He did an outstanding job. The electrical and plumbing contractor ran all new wiring and plumbing for new appliances, and the carpenter installed the new appliances, oak flooring and door to the basement, including a "kitty door". The painting work was completed soon after - even though I did change my mind about the wall color after the first color was put on. All of work was performed by very professional contractors. I highly recommend this company for all home remodeling. Mr. Mittelkemp was thorough and answered all our questions without hesitation. We will definitely contact him for future work in our home.
Description of Work: Designed our kitchen to provide a more efficient flow of work and coordinated the installation of new kitchen cabinets, oak flooring, window and door to basement.

Jim Mittelkamp was very easy to work with. He was focussed on our satisfaction with the job. He organized installation and plumbing by professionals he knows well. They identified some issues with the house while working on the job and rectified them on the spot. The total cost of the project came in a small amount over budget, but this was due to our choice of cabinets and a few extras we requested along the way. The bathroom has been working well and looks great. I would certainly hire this group again.

JJM Services was professional and prompt. I made a list of my needs and wants and JJM Services went above and beyond what I could have imagined. I love my new kitchen! The attention to detail was amazing. One of the particulars included raised counters/cabinets. Because I have a bad back and chronic pain, I requested these items to reduce the amount of bending I would need to do. JJM Services showed me cabinets that look great and add storage to my space. They also raised the range and the dishwasher. The finished product impresses me over and over(and that is hard to do). I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.

My wife and I met with many companies to find a a kitchen remodeling firm that had a good reputation for design and execution. We found it in JJM Services LLC. Jim and his team worked with us to iron out all of the details of the plan to remodel our kitchen. His team was customer service oriented, on time, and did great overall work. I was warned by many friends to be careful not to get caught in the never-ending kitchen remodel. Jim proved that there are still quality contractors that care about the customer and the finished product. We never felt like we just a task on a list to complete. The team was easy to communicate with and understood that communication is the key to any successful project. I would strongly recommend JJM Services LLC for future jobs!

Jim did the desks, countertops, and bookshelves for my office as well as the counter and cabinets for the kitchen. The kitchen is pretty small but a little complicated with a tricky corner sink. Jim suggested a panel to isolate the fridge, which worked out really well. It allowed us to have a 15" high full depth cabinet above the fridge because it could be hung from the panel. So, a standard fridge looks built in, and we have this great 15" cabinet to store large items, paper towels, etc. The office in the basement turned out perfect. I have a 12' desk that's is perfectly cut around two plenums, with 12' of shelving and cabinets above, also cut around the plenums, plus a 4' wide 8' long counter in front that is my main desk. I just spin my chair to get to the 12' desk behind, which usually has plans on it. Pretty standard materials, but a difficult installation that is flawless.

Jim did our new kitchen at at our home. The cabinet purchase was fairly standard, but the installation was challenging because the room was not square. The counter work was especially difficult because the of the same issues, and the fact that the counter was a huge G shape. The forth and last leg was 4' wide. It was a very difficult counter to measure and install. The work was perfect.

Our experience in a full remodel of an older beach cottage kitchen with JJM Services LLC was wonderful. We chose JJM Services LLC , Jim Mittelkamp, for our kitchen design on recommendations from friends that had used his services in the past. He came highly recommended. From our prompt initial meeting to our on budget estimate with excellent design & drawings we knew we were going to be pleased with our choice. The design presented by JJM Services LLC was an exact understanding of our conversations with him about our cottage. Jim met with several family members to hear everyones ideas and thoughts about the finished outcome, not an easy task, as each family member had a different final vision for the space. From the start Jim Mittelkamp considered the use of the kitchen and house space - vacation space that gets large volume social use. He provided a clever design maximizing space to improve the flow and function of our kitchen. We removed an 'L ' shaped pass through design and put in an island that opened up the kitchen up to the living space and redesigned an old closet area (dead space) into a wonderful bar area with bar fridge. His suggestions with design and cabinetwork to bring out the existing woods and colors in the house was insightful and looks beautiful at completion. He took the time to listen and execute a design comprised of all the ideas he heard into one kitchen design that we all love!! From start to finish this was a professional and efficient job done by a dedicated professional. JJM Services gave our family exactly the kitchen we wanted and needed - with a very personal touch. JJM Services and Jim Mittlekamp have a ringing endorsement from us. We would absolutely utilize his service in the future for any project.
Description of Work: We needed to do a complete kitchen remodel of a 100 year old beach cottage. Our goals were to maximize the existing space to its highest level of function, keep the comfortable cottage charm, but add the necessary updated amenities.

The entire process, which we had dreaded greatly, was actually quite painless and even fun. Jim was punctual, complete, responsive, patient, and above all thoughtful. And he really is a great guy. We recommend him without reservation. Update 12/23/12: Incredibly smoothly - on time and on budget!
Description of Work: The owner of this company, Jim Mittelkamp, is a remarkable guy. Our job was a kitchen remodel. Our "difficult" kitchen space occupies a very creative and dramatic addition added to the back of a small Westhaven home in Bethesda. Jim spent just a few hours in our home on two occasions. His final design was incredibly clever in solving the flow problems in the original design. The cabinet selection process that he guided us through was complete yet simple and very carefully explained. Update 12/23/12: Our project, based on Jim's design, is now complete, and I feel compelled to add an additional brief review. We could not be more pleased with Jim's final design. The flow and functionality of his design and suggested materials are really outstanding. I simply cannot recommend Jim highly enough! Well done!

We contacted Jim, the owner, and scheduled an appointment for an estimate. During this meeting, Jim first listened to our thoughts and needs, then made several wonderful suggestions, most of which we accepted. After thoroughly checking to be sure we had communicated correctly to each other, he submitted a written proposal for us to approve and then he placed the order for the items. One of the most difficult parts of this job, was to perfectly match the new doors and drawers with the stain of the existing frames. To help with this task, he took one of our small drawers to use as a sample. Jim brought several catalogs of cabinet designs and even sample doors to give us a better idea of the quality we would be getting. While the new items were being custom made, Jim helped us select the new hardware. He also worked with our crazy summer schedule regarding a delivery and installation date. The person who did the installation was very professional and the 2-day installation went smoothly. Both he and JIm gave us quality work. We were pleased with the process of this project, AND, we are very happy with the end result. It looks like we have an entirely new kitchen.
Description of Work: Our 30-year old kitchen cabinets needed a facelift. While the cabinet frames were in very good condition, several of the cabinet doors and drawer fronts were showing a lot of wear. A friend recommended this company because of his personal acquaintance with the owner, knew the quality of his work and the professionalism he offered.

It turned out that the most difficult part of gutting a 30 year old kitchen in a 60 year old rowhouse and rebuilding was finding the right contractor. It took a few tries to find someone to work with an artist who wanted to go greener, needed a pet feeding station in a galley kitchen and never wanted to hear the term,"but for resale value" again! With JJM Services, I found jim who clearly understands the relationship between design and craftsmanship. His team was thorough, accommodating and patient with a working couple's schedules. Demolition and a perfect clean-up were completed in a miraculous day.The workmanship was beyond my high expectations. Blunders were minor and addressed in a timely and professional manner. We are very pleased with our new green kitchen and thrilled with John's perfectionism and woodworking gifts.

Please see above, the job went great.
Description of Work: When we decided to do a complete remodel of the first floor of our home, we choose JJM Services to do the job. This included a complete demolition of the kitchen, powder room, and all of the flooring. We also had the carpeting removed from the stairs that lead to the second floor and a new set of white oak stairs along with the banister and railing installed. JIm did a great job designing the new kitchen. He was able to include many features that my wife and I would have never thought of. His expertise was very valuable. He was instrumental in helping to coordinate the color of the cabinets with the granite counter tops, backsplash and the ceramic floors. His advice regarding the lighting and even the kitchen sink made the kitchen unique and completely updated. Everything came together beautifully and the finished product is absolutely amazing. The hardwood flooring in our family room, dining room, foyer, and living room looks so good that we decided not to use area rugs which would hide the beauty of the wood. The floors look great. JIm also installed crown molding thoughout the first floor and every room was painted including the trim. The workers Jim chose for our project proved to be expert craftsmen and were very professional. From the painters to the tile installers, hardwood installers and the carpenter, we were impressed with the quality of work. They were on time, dependable and cleaned up the mess at the end of each day. The whole job took about six weeks. One additonal comment. Recently we had a party at our home that was attended by many people who are extremely handy and do this type of work. The consensus among the group was that the job was great. They looked at the crafmanship with a very critical eye. Their only comment was that it was great work. Needless to say, I was very happy that I hired JJM Services to do my job and I highly recommend the expertise of Jim.

We are delighted with our new kitchen - it feels like a whole new house. We had a number of estimates for this work, including a variety of designs. We were impressed with the flexibility offered by this company, in terms of design, materials and price ranges. The range of material offered by this group is very good, and we found the price competitive. Jim's eye for detail is great - both in the overall design strategy, and in the small touches. He was willing to meet with us on multiple occasions before and during the work to ensure everything was in keeping with our vision, and our timeframe! We had a baby on the way, and needed the work completed in the time he promised - and it was! John was very professional, and obviously cared a great deal about his work. He and Jim worked closely together to make sure the finish matched the design intent. He also provided valuable input on some of the finishing touches, a clear sign of his experience and work ethic. Jim followed up with us after the work was complete to make sure it turned out as we had hoped - the look, material and finish were everything we had hoped for. We are very happy to have worked with this company, and will definitely use them again should we need more refurbishment done.
Description of Work: We had a new kitchen designed and installed. This included a number of design meetings and draft plans, along with detailed discussion about the materials, finish etc. Our old kitchen had to be removed, and some structural work completed before the new kitchen installation. We also had a new floor installed, new plumbing and electrical work completed and new appliances installed.
