Jim and his team worked with us to redesign our master bedroom, removing existing closets and creating an entire wall of cabinets to provide much needed storage in our older home. Jim undertook a complete redesign of our bedroom space based on a general concept provided by our home designer. He spent considerable time understanding our needs and was extremely detail oriented in checking and double-checking the closet wall system and window seat design to ensure that it was both accurate and would be truly functional for us. Jim planned and managed the schedule closely. He made excellent recommendations for cabinetry that was attractive, of outstanding quality, and appropriate for our older home. Jim has extensive experience with cabinetry and so was a great resource for us in making cabinetry selections and design decisions. He has truly transformed the space in our master bedroom so it is much more attractive and functional. The attached photos capture the scale and aesthetics of the renovation. Jim has a team of subcontractors with whom he works very effectively and who concur with his superlative quality standards. Jim monitored our project closely to ensure that all aspects of the project were done and completed to his satisfaction, typically exceeding our expectations. We appreciated his strong oversight in making sure every detail was completed just right. We are delighted with our master bedroom and cabinet system and are sure it will serve us well for many years to come.

Our bathroom renovation and redesign project was a major undertaking and Jim worked with us all the way to ensure that the project reached a successful conclusion. Jim is very experienced and has an excellent group of contractors who work well, both with him and with each other. We are extremely happy with the outcome of his team's work. Our project involved a major redesign and expansion of our bathroom in a large older home. Jim was very detail oriented in working on the redesign with us and in following through to ensure that each aspect of the project was completed to our satisfaction. When a few glitches arose, which often occurs when renovating older homes, Jim was able to recruit the appropriate experts immediately to adjust the plans and achieve our desired result. I especially appreciated that Jim had the perseverance to keep after every detail of the project until it was completed to his satisfaction, which often exceeded my own expectations. He scrutinized all work closely and served as our strong advocate throughout the project. Jim is exceptionally knowledgeable about cabinetry and was a great resource for us in selecting cabinetry for our bathroom. Before a project gets underway with Jim and his team, I would suggest discussing upfront how you would like to collaborate and communicate. In my case, I was at home during the renovation and so tended to prefer frequent updates, while some of his other clients prefer to communicate only when changes to the plan or schedule are required. Jim seems to be comfortable with both approaches. We were so happy with this project that we promptly enlisted Jim's help with our master bedroom renovation to be reviewed separately.

This is the second time we have used Jim. Just like the first time, he did an awesome job, start to finish. His subs did a great job and were easy to work with. After everything was installed, there were some minor divers in the quartz counters. He was great about following up with the manufacturer and making sure they came out and made the repairs. We are very happy with how things went. Oh, and he managed to get the job done faster than he had estimated. Definitely use him again.

Owner showed up an hour late for appointment. I spent an hour with him going over our vision for the kitchen. We already had plans from a kitchen designer. During our conversation he said he is a “1 man operation” and that he sub contracts everything out. So I couldn’t help wonder what if he decides to close up and leave and who would I go to for warranty work? He then told me about a recent physician client who insisted on a sub-contractor lien waiver. Angies list articles have previously recommended this as it protects the home owner from a subcontractor lien in the case when they are not paid by the contractor. Nothing would be worse than having to pay twice. Anyways, he told me he will never do one again as he took it as an insult to his trust worthiness. I couldn’t help thinking as he volunteered this, aren’t you a stranger to me and isn’t trust earned? And I didn’t appreciate him speaking negatively about this previous client. For one of the kitchen walls we planned on recessing a cabinet into the wall and he told me it couldn’t be done. With my engineering background it was clear to me that the owner really doesn’t know that much about building. Since 100% of work is sub-contracted out this wasn’t surprising. In the end he never sent me his estimate. Given that all work is sub-contracted out, I have no doubt he would be over priced. My kitchen is now built by someone else who knew what they are doing and I couldn’t be happier.

Mr. [Member Name Removed], I apologize. You are right. I should have gotten back to you. You had your design plan for your kitchen completed; you had your cabinets selected and ready to purchase. I could have gotten you a price for the installation. I just did not get it done, and to you, and for that I am sorry. Regards, Jim Mittelkamp

Jim was very methodical about documenting and pricing numerous odds and ends that needed to be done around the house, in addition to every aspect of the more straightforward kitchen and bathroom projects. The few requests that I had for corrective work were handled fairly and graciously.

Bathroom Remodel in an old house can be a challenge when you are living in the house -- Nick did a great job on the bathroom in general and paid attention to details that are often ignored by other contractors (e.g. non essential, but make things look better and are important to the homeowner). Ron helped out in catching some plumbing details that other plumbers had missed. The aggravation of a remodel is likely unavoidable, but with these folks you'll feel good about the work.

It is a real pleasure to work with Jim and his subcontractors. He listened to our ideas, worked with us on selecting materials, and adjusted to our special requests. He also called on his decades of experience to improve on our ideas, add special touches, and get the details just right. They moved a door and removed closets. Some of the challenges were complex, like piping in a soffit we were removing. Jim studied the problem areas, both before beginning and as they appeared during demolition, and came up with some unique solutions. He obsessed over small things. Construction was scheduled for five weeks. It was completed in six, even though we threw in installation of new wood flooring and painting for the entire first floor. And the flooring arrived two weeks late. Jim worked his crews around the challenges. He was on site often, communicated clearly when to expect workmen, and keep us informed when waiting for pieces to arrive. We cannot recommend him highly enough.

Jim Mittelkamp came to our house as scheduled, measured the area, and discussed ideas. A few days later he returned with drawings and renderings, which we discussed and modified. He was exceptionally good at listening to our ideas and would explain clearly if something couldn't work. He showed us samples of flooring and cabinets. His meticulous attention to the most mundane details gave us confidence After another round, he presented us with a proposal for the work. With a few minor adjustments, we agreed to hire him for the work. It is now under way. Stay tuned.

Jim, the supervisory contractor and kitchen designer, did a superb job. Extensive woodworking was indicated with removal of wasteful empty bulkheads and careful designing of custom-made high-quality maple cabinets were custom fit to unusual shapes in our 80+ euros house. Jim was especially patient with the selection of granite slabs, which involved visits to two separate granite service providers involving almost an entire day. The carpenter, John, is extraordinary and he managed to custom fit the tops of the cabinets to our irregular plaster ceiling. He also successfully widened the doorway between the kitchen and dining room which was complicated because of old oak paneling covering the entire dining room wall. There were a few small glitches, but all members of the team were responsive and fixed the minor problems.

Excellent. After interviewing several other contractors for this work, I chose Jim Mittelcamp of JJM Services because of his initial proposal, which was very clear and extremely detailed. He was obviously thinking about every part of the work that had to be done. His price was comparable to those of the other contractors. His straight-forward approach and his attention to detail were the major factors leading me to choose his company to do the work. I appreciated this because I am a very detail-oriented person. He as well as the subcontractors to do the carpentry and the quartz installation kept their appointments promptly. Jim Mittelcamp always phoned me to tell me when to expect him and the other workers, and he inspected the work as it progressed and when it was completed. A special touch is that he saved me a trip to the quartz countertop dealer, which he originally proposed, buy bringing samples to my home, one of which was a very good choice. Jim Mittelcamp was a pleasure to work with because of his professional knowledge, his easy-going personality, his patience and willingness to answer questions, and his people skills. The next time I need remodeling work, I will very likely have JJM Services do it.

How did it go? Amazingly beyond our highest expectations. We cannot say enough good things about Jim Mittelcamp and about Ron, his extremely talented sub-contractor, as wel as Dan, Jason, Nick, Danny, Joe the floor guy, and everyone that Jim brought to work on our house. We have an unusual house that is like a duplex, sort of two apartments connected by a pantry area. We first thought that we would just spruce up one kitchen with a new floor, backsplash, granite countertop, stove, and hood, and get new cabinets as well as countertop, stove, backsplash and hood for the second kitchen. We are teachers, so we didn't want to spend unnecessary arms and legs to make these changes happen. We had lots of contractors give us estimates, but Jim Mittelcamp of JJM LLC seemed the most reasonable and willng to work with us While we were planning our kichens, we decided to do our own backsplashes as glass and grout mosaics on cement board. Jim arranged for Ron and his men to cut the cement board to our specifications, and we worked on the mosaic horizontally in a separate space while the renovations were done. We finished the mosaics and Jim's men installed them. To cut to the end of the kitchens story, we are delighted with all the work. One very special aspect of Jim's contractors is that they are talented thinkers and problem solvers. It's the details of framing or lighting newly renovated areas that require the energy and imagination to transition between surfaces and materials, Every time we found a problem, Jim and Ron found a solution. Jim also designed a real wood pantry complete with step stool that works perfectly for our needs. Before the work began, we went on several field trips with Jim to look at granites and floors, and ended up with the best floor we have ever seen anywhere! Our northern kitchen now has beautiful old remilled wooden planks of different widths and shades. Jim's subcontractor Joe Young was so passionate about hand sanding and oiling and finishing the floors, working on every plank's edges one by one, that the floor has become the star of the kitchen. (Our southern kitchen already has the same hundred year old pine that is present in the rest of our Lauraville house, so no need to change that floor. ) Did we mention all the work it took Ron's men to take up the nightmare subfloor and actually rebuild a decent floor underneath the new floor? Or the fact that they carefully carried every appliance and piece of furniture so that they caused no damage to any part of our house while they worked on it? Did we mention Jim's attention to lighting, so that the mosaics could twinkle and show off color and shapes? .It cost us $33,000 for both kitchens, and we could not be happier with the results. At the same time that these kitchen renovations were going on, we were getting estimates from other companies for our wrap around porch. Our outside steps ( all 5 entrances) and railings and edges of the porch were looking tattered, and becoming hazardous to walk on. We did not plan on rebuilding the porch at the same time, but it became obvious that in order to maintain our 100 year old house, we would need to preserve safe access to it by fixing all that was wrong with the porch. We made the difficult decision of spending more money, and, after getting estimates from other contractors, asked Jim if this was also something he and Ron could handle. Our porch today is a rebuilt masterpiece, built to last for a very long time, and really stately, not to mention safe. New railings, new risers, new flights of stairs, new materials in the complete surround that gets all the gutter drips, just fantatstic. The new wrap around porch cost us $20,000. Yes, that is a lot of money for us. We are certain that it will not need to be fixed in a year., We feel that this investment is money well spent. While our renovations were going on, our basement flooded with a foot of water. Our basement has been wet since we bought the house i27 years ago. Jim investigated why there was water, found a solution to the problem, and we have a dry basement for the first time since 1988! He hired a subcontractor to regrade and add clay near the house, recommended and followed up with cutting down a tree disturbing the gutters, and more. He asked Ron's men to clean the gutters three times. Jim's subcontractors unclogged a major pipe leading away from our house. The unexpected resolution to our basement nightmare cost about $1500. Did we mention that Jim drove across town to bring us a spare sump pump, just out of being a nice guy and genuinely wanting to help? Jim and the people who work with him are multi talented enough to diagnose all kinds of challenges. Jim, as the general contractor, has enough contacts to understand and to fix the problem, and to follow through. We probably have forgotten to mention a dozen touches that made these renovations wonderful. We are hoping that we won't be spending money on our house for a while, but if we ever need any work done, Jim is the first person we will call.
Description of Work: Jim designed and arranged for a series of renovations that we wanted done. He only employs reliable professional expert sub contractors, so there was never a hitch.

I liked the general layout of my kitchen but I hated that all the cabinetry was painted gold and especially hated the colonial arch style of the upper cabinets. I wanted my laminated counter tops to be replaced with something more upscale as well. I contacted Jim with the idea of replacing the upper cabinet doors (to get rid of the colonial arch), but ultimately we decided that replacing the entire upper cabinets instead with white wood cabinets would be about the same cost as just replacing the doors and repainting the rest. Then his painter painted my existing lower cabinets white to match the new upper cabinets. My kitchen cabinets now have exactly the look (and color) I want, and the new top cabinets match the bottom cabinets that are years old but otherwise in good shape. Without Jim, I would never have had the guts to order just top cabinets and paint the bottom cabinets, but I am very happy with the result. He also figured out the perfect back splash height and provided new window sills. These are the small details I would have overlooked but makes the kitchen look more finished. So I appreciate Jim's knowledge, taste, and his willingness to accept my ideas and make them work. I also think that the painter, cabinet installer, and plumber that he hired were excellent and went out of their way to fix issues that I didn't even realize that I had. Who knew that people were supposed to be able to fit things in the space under their sink? Because of the way my old kitchen faucet had been installed, I had very little room before, but now that the new faucet has been installed differently, I can fit lots of items in the space. I now actually enjoy spending time in my kitchen!
Description of Work: Renovated kitchen cabinets and countertops: *Removed 8 existing wall cabinets and replaced them with new white wood cabinets that matched the style of my floor cabinets; * Painted floor cabinets a matching white and installed new dividers where needed; * Installed new quartz countertops and stainless sink and faucet.

We needed to remodel a ground level living space to accommodate out-of-town visitors The 1st step was to install a shower, although I worried that it couldn't be done in the available space. Jim Mittlekamp evaluated the situation and within 45 minutes had a plan and a drawing. Work started in less than 2 weeks and was completed on schedule. I was very pleased with the job and would say that this was one of the best remodeling experience I've had. Would like them to do more work on my home

Jim redesigned the bathroom as much as the limited space allowed, to accommodate a boxed-in shower stall instead of a tub/shower. The 50-year-old tiled floor and walls were replaced by new, large stone-like tiles, and all the rest of the room was redesigned to include more space-saving and attractive items. The result has been entirely satisfactory; as luxurious a bathroom as we have ever enjoyed. As with the kitchen that Jim and his crew had previously redone for us, every time we use it, both my wife and I take a moment just to admire the new room.

We hired JJM (aka Jim Mittelkamp) to renovate and update our 75 year old bathroom. We were very impressed with Jim from the beginning and cancelled all other estimates we had scheduled after our first meeting with him. He had a detailed, honest and practical approach to our project. He was organized and helpful with every step of the process. He genuinely cared about making our family happy. His years of experience and knowledge proved very helpful when he came with us to pick out the tile and the fixtures of the bathroom. He knew which materials, tile and fixtures would work best for us. I can't tell you how pleased I am with how our bathroom turned out. This is how I hoped and dreamed the bathroom would turn out to be. John and construction crew were always hard working and on time. They were reliable, helpful and very polite. They always cleaned up afterward and were responsive to any questions we had. Their estimate was accurate and even a bit less than I expected. I recommended JJM to several of my neighbors who are currently interested in kitchen or bathroom remodeling, especially after seeing the new bathroom I have from JJM. I wish we had discovered them years ago when we had updated our kitchen. When I compare the process of JJM to the other contractor we had, JJM was by far superior. We will be using JJM in the future for any home improvement job we have. Thanks Jim, John and Elijah for our gorgeous bathroom!!!!

Are you looking to hire someone for a quick, cheap job? Read no further. However, if you are looking for incredible craftsmanship, attention to detail, outstanding customer service and imaginative solutions for challenging remodeling projects, you should definitely contact JJM Services. If you hire Jim Mittelkamp (aka JJM), you will get all of the above and more. Your project will be carefully designed and impeccably executed. In addition, your project will proceed with a dose of humor and a side helping of philosophy. What more could anyone ask for? My project began with a kitchen remodel in a >100 year old house. This small kitchen was an add-on to the rear of the house at some point (the kitchen was originally in the basement). Did I mention the kitchen is really small? My vague idea when Jim first came to look at the job included new cabinets and countertops, a pass-through into the dining room to open up the space a bit, and possibly a skylight to lighten it up. From that vague idea, I ended up with a completely new first floor. Jim really listens to his clients to figure out what they actually want. He spent a huge amount of time on the design and its modifications. He tried different kitchen layouts to ensure the best one. He brought the head of the construction team, Ron Hamel, to inspect everything before finalizing the plans. The pass-through is elegantly designed with glass door cabinets facing both rooms, and the trim around the cabinets matches the original trim in the house. The kitchen was completely gutted, including shoring up the slanted floor so hardwood could be properly installed. New insulation in the crawl space under the kitchen was added. The kitchen work included cherry cabinets, granite countertops, new plumbing and lighting, a toe kick heater, new appliances and tile backsplash. A new ceiling, crown molding and chair rail were added to the dining room, everything repainted and the chandelier moved. The molding around all the new doorways and kitchen windows was specially milled to match the original moldings in the house. Jim designed a custom cabinet beneath the pass-through in the dining room as well as one in the breakfast room. But the real genius was Jim?s idea to raise and enlarge the openings into the kitchen, dining room and breakfast room. A short wall was removed and a new back door installed. The goal was to maintain the character of the old house while making these dramatic improvements. The result is amazing- the small first floor rooms are opened up to each other and the view from one room to the next is inspiring. Once the project was underway and furniture moved around, Jim suggested having the oak parquet floors in the rest of the first floor refinished and he handled that as well. All of this was done for not much more than I thought I would spend on the kitchen alone! Ron Hamel and his crew did outstanding work: they were careful, courteous and handled all the typical surprises found in old houses with great professionalism. The only minor issue is that this team is very busy, and once the job is nearing completion it can drag on a bit as they begin other jobs. In addition to the high quality design and workmanship, JJM Services provides very individualized customer service. Jim finds each job and client an engaging challenge and by the time you hire him he will be like a member of your family. It is definitely an enjoyable way to remodel; I highly recommend JJM Services!

Jim came over to meet with me in February to discuss the details of the kitchen I wanted. I also mentioned the wet bar area and showed that to him. He checked my kitchen out to assess my interests and storage needs and returned soon with a computer rendering of the proposed kitchen with a window seat I had suggested. I have a small galley kitchen and he managed to make use of every bit of space. His men were very knowledgeable and experts at their various jobs. I had soffits everywhere and the unneeded ones were removed so I could have taller cupboards resulting in more storage space. The men were very punctual, for the most part. Jim and I spent two separate days looking for the perfect piece of white granite to go with the charcoal cupboards I'd selected. It was a pleasure working with Jim. He was very patient and didn't have any problems with my changes of mind or mood and the experience was Stress free. I wouldn't hesitate working with JJM. services again. I love my kitchen, my wet bar and my new vanity.
Description of Work: JJM did a total kitchen remodeling including all new cupboards and hardwood floor. They also installed a new wet-bar in my family room with new sink and granite top. And they installed a 72" vanity w/2 sinks in my Master bath.

Our kitchen was a complete gut and remodel job. Wall came down. New walls went up. New lighting. New electric. New appliances, counters, cabinets, floors. They did an amazing job! Work was impeccable. Workers cleaned each day to help eliminate dry wall dust and mess after the project was completed. They blocked off the construction zone to protect other areas of the house during the remodel. We would highly recommend this company to friends!!! We would certainly use them again on other home projects!!

WOW ! Love Love Love and my Husband.....loves loves loves and that's even a bigger WOW ! We will be forever grateful to Jim. My focus in the Master Bath was on " Marble " ( the hardest part of the job ) a shower that would be a joy to be in and use, a linen cabinet that would handle much more then just sheets & towels and a window that I could have light coming in instead of a window totally covered by a darkening shade. My focus on the Closet was to enlarge it to a " walk-in " with all the amenities important to us. The finished Shower & Closet " OMG " unbelievable ! You would have to see it to believe it and Jim has pictures. Even the construction crew were wowed by the finished product. New window no shades I can actually see a window for the 1st time in 21 years. Jim takes great pride in his work and his expertise to detail from " Design " to " Products " , where to shop and goes with you from start to finish in my opinion is " 2ND to None" I will be calling on Jim again and already have with any future " projects " or " repairs " needing attention in my home.

Jim was the only one of our estimators who redesigned the area, as opposed to simply renovating the existing layout. He opened up what had been a cramped, poorly-designed space into a more functional kitchen with actual counter-top space! The initial gutting went to the walls and sometimes beyond, the existing baseboard hot-water heating was removed to allow cabinets to be built along that wall, and the existing door-sized opening from the dining room into the kitchen was widened and relocated to allow a central access to the kitchen. The sink and all the appliances (both existing and new) were relocated, requiring relocation of pipes and electric lines, and new lighting was installed. The existing trim around the walls, window and door was removed, refinished and replaced to make the whole kitchen look new. The existing lightweight interior basement door was replaced by a solid one. Additional work was done as needed (existing damage to the basement ceiling was repaired along with the replacement of ceiling tiles following plumbing renovations, for instance), which made the home even better. Jim's crew is experienced and competent, the work went as planned, with the almost inevitable glitches being handled smoothly and expertly. The total time was about three weeks around the Thanksgiving period, and we were entirely satisfied with the work and the cleanup during the process. The final condition of the working area was thoroughly satisfactory, with little sign that the crew had been there. The new, taller cabinets are excellent, the layout is far better (last night three of us were easily in the kitchen together, when more than one used to lead to collisions), and the working space is much greater. Several weeks of use have produced only minor, easily-fixed adjustments, and we have found the overall effect to be every bit as good as we had hoped. Even the most picky of us has been able to find no faults (yet). Drafts from the outside have been eliminated and the new lighting lets us all easily see what we're doing. I should also mention the cork floor, which has been a great comfort to us on these cold winter mornings - softer and less frigid. In short, I recommend Jim and his crew without reservation. When we have any other remodeling work to do, Jim will be our first choice.

The first thing that impressed us with Jim was the amount of work he put into his preliminary design. It was clear he listened to want we wanted, but also brought a lot of his own ideas to the table. He did all this to sell us on the idea that he was the guy and we didn't put a cent down until the work started. He was extremely detail oriented and a presence in our home throughout the entire process of redoing our kitchen. We're incredibly happy with the results. With Jim, you're hiring a guy who is going to bring a lot of great ideas to the table and get the job done the way you want it done.
Description of Work: Jim designed our kitchen and oversaw a group of excellent contractors to get the job done.

We bought a new house (to us-it was existing) in Columbia and one of the reasons for getting it was a lovely office on the first floor. I work from home. One wall had a 10' long counter desk with bookshelves on it and 4 cabinets under it. The cabinetry was very nice and was stained an unusual but appealing green shade. Kind of paint/stain. Jim took a small sample and matched it perfectly. We were changing out a 10' long counter that was 25 inches deep and making the new one 31" deep with some complicated notching, and a nosing that needed to match the green cabinet color. The 6 cabinets had to come out and be reset and filled where there were new gaps as they were pulled from the walls. It all came out perfectly, and was done in a long day, plus a day a couple weeks earlier for planning and measurements. Jim's installers then cheerfully set the old counter up in the garage and set up a rack of framing for storage under it. This was allso 10' long, and it was removed and reset without damage. No wall damage, no paint touch up needed. None. No drama, no cleanup by us-the installer covered and vacuumed everything. Totally painless and came out perfectly. Bathrooms next.
Description of Work: Reworked/replaces a built in desk, drawer bases, filing bases, and book shelves in the first floor office.

Everything went great! They came exactly when they said they would and completed the work within a week, as was predicted. All affected areas were patched and repainted perfectly. Everything was left very neat and the kitchen looks fantastic. Jim was great to work with and he understood our desire to limit cost but still have a great looking kitchen in a small area. I had read other positive reviews on Angie's list for much more involved jobs, so when I called JJM, I wondered if the company would be interested in our small job that did not involve as much creativity as larger jobs might. However, we felt our small project was given as much attention and care as we could have hoped for had we been doing a much more expensive renovation. We were extremely pleased with the work and our whole experience and we would definitely use this company again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: We had a gutted small galley kitchen we needed to renovate. JJM gave a a new, beautiful kitchen with cabinets, a granite counter top, and a new sink! They did all the associated electrical, plumbing., and dry wall work. (This included connecting the new sink, disconnecting and killing an exhaust fan, installing an over-the-stove microwave, and hooking up an ice maker in a new refrigerator.)
