This client was so enthusiastic that she inspired us to go over the top with our design service. She knew what she wanted when she saw it and we simply designed around the items she picked out from what we presented. I have to admit.....the bathrooms are spectacular. we had an unusual situation in the master bathroom with a window that was installed kind of over the right side of the sink. This situation prevented us from installing a standard purchased mirror. So we designed a custom tiled mirror that we built on sight and it was a clever solution and the new plan created an optical illusion that pulled your eye off of the the window and drew your attention to the mirror instead. We are really proud of our ability to solve problems quickly and [member name removed] really showed us her appreciation during and after the renovation. Thanks again [member name removed] !

While the connatations of "Budget Bath" left me with the impression of a low-bid, low quality company, the excellent reviews in Angie's convinced me to give them a call. I met with David House and we reviewed the work I wanted done, which was a typical renovation of a master bath (new tiles, cabinets, mirrors, fixtures). I knew pretty much what I wanted - or better put, I knew what I could afford, and there wasn't any room in my budget for much creativity as much as I would have liked to do them. Being retired, on a fixed income and with a daughter starting college, cost was regrettably a key factor for me. I had written up my Statement of Work such that I would provide all non-construction materials, and I did this in part because I'm an avid shopper and wanted to minize my product costs as much as possible. When David left I thought he was going to prepare a bid, and after a week I asked him if he had anything for me. I subsequently received an e-mail from David in which he declined to submit a bid. If he had stopped there, I'd have had no issues. However, David went on for several paragraphs explaining why he didn't want to deal with people like me who wanted to SAVE and who don't worry about quality. I found the explanation and lecture as insulting, demeaning and unnecessary. I'm not sure David meant it this way, but that's the way it came across and that's the reason for the poor rating. Not a big deal really. I'm now working with a couple of finalists for my project and both companies understand the dilemna I have of balancing cost with features & quality. I suspect that David's company does great work but helping you manage costs may not be their top priority.

Dave and his team have done a great job in our home. Dave was very engaged with us during the initial consultation. While we had general ideas, Dave was able to bring that to life in a real plan and design that had us very excited. They designed and completed a basement bathroom for us. This bathroom had space and plumbing issues, but they completed the job on time and on budget. The crew was very friendly clean and courteous. They would work extra hours to keep the job on schedule, yet still take the time to explain any details of the day?s work in which we might have interest. Great Job Dave and team.!!!! Looking forward to having the upstairs bath remodeled.

we had done a professional bathroom renovation for a friend of this client. There was already a very high trust factor. The concept was to create a basement bathroom first then complete the upstairs bathroom. The basement space was the most challenging. We had to be really creative with the framing to make this work within the limited space and we had to relocate the washer and dryer as well. We really exceeded our clients expectations and developed a completely functional bathroom. When you close the door you would never know you were in a small basement bathroom. The upstairs bathroom was simple except for the complex tile designs. It looks like a 5 star hotel bath. Thanks for letting Budget Bath Inc. really get creative on this one. David House

This was our second bathroom remodel done by Budget Bath. We had several contractors give us an estimate but only Dave had a "vision" for our bath. He came to our home then sent us a detailed estimate by email. We requested a second home visit to discuss our options in more detail and Dave was more then willing to oblige. The entire experience took several weeks but his employees were a pleasure to have around. They were so courteous and professional and took as much pride in their work as Dave did. We were in awe of the quality of the workmanship and the attention to detail. Dave would often sit with me on my computer to assist me in making the simplest choices for such things as lighting fixtures and even shower curtains. He was so easy to work with. Even after the shower base was poured we decided that we wanted a larger shower. Dave's reply was simply "no problem". The next day they took out the base and replaced it with a larger one and we love it! His suggestions regarding tile choices, layout, fixtures etc were always perfect. Our master bath has become a master retreat. We never could have done this without Dave House's expertise.
Description of Work: Master bath required full renovation. Jacuzzi tub and shower removed. All floors removed and replaced. Vanity, mirrors, lighting fixtures and toilet all removed and replaced. Total gut job. New linen closet built. All new towel fixtures. Everything was removed and replaced.

Wow........Customer is actually in Northern Virginia and we do quite a bit of work there. If I did not return phone calls then how did I tell him that we do not do work in his area ? I do not know how to respond to this Angie's List member in a positive way. Angie's List does not permit Budget Bath Inc. to limit our advertising area by city so we have no choice but to advertise in area's beyond our service area. I politely explained to this person that traffic to his side of Virginia prohibits us from being competitive and to be able to provide the kind of service our clients expect. He seemed ok with my explanation and I thought that was the end of it. That was three weeks ago ! Sorry customer, but What else could I have said or done to develop a positive outcome ?

I appreciate the member's honesty. The date of this review is December 27, 2012 which explains why this scenario developed and I regret we were not able to help him. We are so busy near the end of the year trying to complete our existing renovations before Christmas that sometimes we have to turn potential clients away so we can focus on the jobs at hand or sometimes the customers description of the job does not match what we do. Either way, a phone call to this gentleman would have been better. My apologies to the member. If it was your job behind schedule with the holidays looming I am certain you would have appreciated us turning off the phones and getting to work to make sure we finished on time. Examining our Angie's List reviews will be a true indicator of our level of customer satisfaction which is extremely high for our industry. Sorry we let you down and we will try to do better next time. David House Budget Bath Inc. Professional Bathroom Renovators

I have to say that I have never had a better experience with any Contractor than I had with Budget Bath. Budget Bath is perhaps the most professional Contractor in the market today. From my first meeting with David House to the follow-up once the job was complete far exceeded my expectation. In our initial meeting, David listened to my ideas for the finished bath and made suggestions completing the vision I originally had. David took into consideration how the room would be used and made suggestions improving on my ideas. Suggestions such as a toilet that made cleaning easier, lighting over the shower and a built in for extra storage. And never was his approach heavy handed. Often contractors tell you what you want and what you can have, not David House. He made makes sure you get what you want and what you need at very affordable prices. The bathroom is very small but once the job was completed it looked twice as large. Every detail is perfect. A very important concern to me going in was having strangers in my house while the work was being done. The professionals at Budget Bath not only did the highest quality work, they were totally respectful of my home. Each day when the men left, there was no mess in my house. They cleaned up after themselves and there was never trash or construction waste left inside or outside of my home. They covered the floors while they worked and other than a beautiful bathroom, you?d never know they were there. I have already recommended Budget Bath to friends and will continue to do so whenever I hear of someone needing to make improvements to their Bathroom. It is not in my nature to put my reputation on the line for a Contractor but in this case I feel compelled to do just that. If you are considering an upgrade to your bathroom and want a completely satisfying experience, talk with Budget Bath. David House and his crew will not disappoint.

Wow! What a kind review from the member. Thank you. Most of the credit goes to our client though. He allowed us to do a great job. I listened to him and he listened to me. Originally he wanted a wood vanity base due to storage requirements, but once I showed him our custom built recessed storage cabinets, then analyzed what was actually stored in the existing vanity base it was an easy decision to change to a pedestal sink and create significantly more useful storage over the toilet. The pedestal sink we selected still had plenty of flat surface space for prepping yet softened the corners and gave us about 5 inches of saved space at the entry door. So now when you walk in you are not immediately confronted with a big bulky square corner sink that feels constrictive. There is plenty of room to move around in this small space. Thanks again Member!

This bathroom was certainly a challenge. Our client had high expectations and we delivered. This bathroom is so awesome even I am amazed we managed to stuff so many unique features in such a small space. Our client played an important role in the outcome of this project as they invested quite a bit of time evaluating tile selection. Once they committed to a style, we were able to build on their preferences to create a one-of-a-kind bathroom. Wish I had that bathroom in my own house.

My wife and I had several other contractors. Once we had Mr. House's assessment, we knew we had to have him renovate our bathroom. Actually, renovate is not the proper word. His creation far surpasses our original bathroom. All his workmen were excellent and extremely courteous. They were a pleasure to have in our house. Mr. House discovered the attic over our bedroom had never been insulated and took care of this defect which I'm sure will save us a lot on our energy cost. He found the ideal stone to match the tile we selected. The final product is stylish and functional. We never imagined we would have such a beautiful creation. Mr. House was always available by phone and very responsive to any concerns we had. He stayed within the original budget he gave us. We will always be grateful to the beautiful creation Mr. House has given us.
Description of Work: Mr. House completely gutted our master bathroom. Unbelievably, he literally doubled the size of our bathroom. He takes great pride in his work and it shows. He has given my wife and me a gift which we absolutely love. I couldn't imagine anyone doing a better job. He developed a complex design which more than satisfied my wife's disability requirements. Mr. House used his magic to give us storage space beyond our imagination. He was even able to give us a linen closet in our bathroom. He was able to envision this masterpiece before he began the project. His genius, he truly is a genius, gave us a bathroom we never expected to have. We love the walk-in-tub that he installed. He added space for a vanity and chair. He moved walls and added a doorway to develop a larger space without compromising the space in our closet and our bedroom. He turned 2 x 4's sideways to literally give us the maximum amount of space possible. Every inch counted. He intuitively knew how to do this. The lighting is perfect.

Wow. What a great review. I really appreciate our client taking the time to write such a nice description of the project. The client contributed to our success by really giving me accurate information to build on. Because I knew exactly what they wanted we were able to develop a design that worked and was also beautiful. They chose the tile without any help from me and I simply complimented their taste. It really takes both parties involved to make a complex project turn out so well. Their enthusiasm during each phase of completion really inspired our talented staff. Thanks Members

Dave designed the bathroom with our wishes and needs in mind, and it came out beautifully. His crew was totally professional and patient with both us and the bathroom itself. Some unexpected problems came up, but they were handled very well, and we are so happy with the results. We would definitely use them again...and in fact we ARE using them again right now, to remodel another bathroom.

Our reno was a work of total satisfaction from estimate to completion. We interviewed several contractors but chose Dave House because of the creativity that he brought to the table. We had chosen the tile for the floor and walls but Dave showed us how we could lay out the tile for maximum beauty. His workers were wonderful. Always on time and extremely mindful of leaving the house at the end of the work day as clean as it was when they arrived. I would not describe Dave's employees so much as workers but more as craftsmen who were meticulous about their work. They took pride in it also. Dave is not just a contractor but an artisan. He was very very creative about every aspect of the reno including paint choices, tile placement and fixtures. He had so many creative ideas that it made the process fun and easy for us. Dave was not on site at all times but was available by phone to answer any questions that came up. He made himself available any time we requested to see him. He seemed to understand our style and helped us to make selections that were always perfect. We can't wait to start our master bath!

This client knew they wanted a blue accented bathroom. They did a lot of the leg work themselves. They eventually picked a glass tile with white subway tile. I think the really fun part was their excitement when I suggested we use a potion of the accent tile on the floor and incorporate a visually tantalizing pattern giving the space a mildly more modern upscale look. That one design element gave the whole project the "WOW" effect. Thanks Members

We got three estimates for this job. Mr. House's was on the higher end of the middle, but the result is well worth it. Mr. House is very creative and innovative; he really is a designer at heart. He and his crew, Antonio, Eric, John, Joe, Kenny and David, are very talented and hard workers. Everything was included in the contract and we were aware if we exceeded the limitations--example the tile cost more, but it is gorgeous. The work proceeded on schedule and we are so pleased with the result that we contracted with Mr. House to remodel our master bath which is a much larger project since it requires breaking out walls to enlarge the space. That project is now underway.
Description of Work: Our hall bath was old and in sad shape. Mr. David House and his crew completely demolished it and started from scratch. The most outstanding feature of the bath is the tile which is on all three sides of the shower and goes up about seven feet. The tile is called "jade" but has many other shades incorporated in it. There are four variations on the basic theme; one is a listello that has a vine running through it; two others are listellos of different sizes. Eric, a genius with tile, laid out the pattern on the kitchen floor so I could see how it would look. The result is astoundingly beautiful. We also have a new high-rise, low-water usage toilet and above that is a built-in wooden cabinet. The vanity has three concave drawers and above that are three suspended light fixtures. We needed maximum storage space. Now when someone visits and asks to use the bathroom, I am very happy to share the beauty with them.

I informed Mr House that we would not be using him due to the his price being twice that of the other contractors bids. Then about a month later he sent me an email that was LESS than professional. He has difficulty accepting rejection. The following is a direct quote (cut and pasted) from his email: "If you are interested, I would be willing to review your bathroom renovation once its complete and point out the flaws and discuss the disparity in price between what you got and what I was going to give you, and I would do that at no charge to you." "In thirty years, I have encountered two types of clients. The ones who know what they want and make sure they get it even if they have to spend a little bit more because their focus is getting a great job that they will enjoy for years. Then, there are the customers who buy a price and as long as the price is right they give little regard to who does it, what the quality is, and usually discover that what they got is way different then what they thought they were getting."
Description of Work: No service was performed.

Response from Budget Bath
I appreciate Angie's List for giving me the forum to respond to customer reviews, positive or critical of our performance and final bathroom renovation product. Every so often I get a compelling review from a potential client that offers a review despite not hiring Budget Bath to do any work. This is one of those occasions. Be aware the customer cut and paste only portions of my e-mail that suited his purpose so hopefully that speaks volumes about the accuracy of the statements posted and also about intent. The bitter response also suggests that maybe the bathroom renovation did not turn out as well as they had hoped. I was simply trying to be honest and forthright to encourage this client to reconsider their process for selecting a contractor and buying a bathroom. The magazine they presented during the estimate process had beautiful designer bathrooms with many special-order handmade one of a kind teak or mahogany cabinets. The client made it clear that they wanted exactly what was in the pictures of this one particular bathroom. This bathroom being a high end upscale production, it was necessary to clarify their desire which they did. When a homeowner uses price as the main buying criteria and simultaneously inadvertently never mentions quality requirements, an unusual situation develops. What estimate should be created? The one they say they want or the one they can afford? I offered to revisit this client free of charge to see the final bathroom created by another lower priced bidder. Instead of an invitation, I received a less than complimentary review on Angie's List. My second e-mail to this client was merely a response to their original correspondence which, although not shown here, was derogatory in nature towards my estimate. I can truly say that if this client is this difficult without any work being done I can only wonder how complex the renovation must have been for the company that actually did the work. Some of the most important jobs I ever did were the ones that I avoided. Thanks for taking time to read my response to this non-customer through to the end. Best wishes for your bathroom renovation whether you select Budget Bath, Inc. or another company.

I appreciate the member's honest critique of Budget Bath and his interpretation of the final product. However, this was only a partial bathroom renovation in which our client forced us to preserve paneling outside the tub area that was never installed correctly to begin with. Saving the paneling while trying to do a professional job was like trying to put a dress on a pig. We did the best we could while trying to respect the customers wishes despite making our objection well known because we knew it would influence the appearance of the final product. If I walked into a bathroom and saw a beautiful tub and tile job merged with paneling that is about 20 years old, I would give it a "B" too.

The entire experience went as well as could be expected. The owner came out and did the initial meeting and provided us with an estimate and the scope of what work was to be performed. It was obvious by his enthusiasm that he enjoys his work and that he takes great pride in the job. He was able to provide layout options that others didn't see. He gave us a start date and told us what to expect. His crews were on time every day and were very professional as well as being very polite. At the end of each day they cleaned any affected area where they worked. I was very happy with the finished product and would not hesitate to refer them to others.
Description of Work: We remodeled the bathroom in our bedroom. The bathroom prior to the remodel was not very functional and was definately dated. They gutted the entire bathroom and relocated the toilet and the sink. They built a custom cabinet over the toilet and provided upscale tile work in the shower. Replaced the existing lighting with recessed lights. The floor was also replaced.

This project gives me a rare opportunity to explain to potential clients willing to hear the travesty that can sometimes occur when buying a home improvement project based on price. First let me congratulate the member on recognizing the difference between a contractor that does "everything" versus a specialist such as Budget Bath Inc. The story in short is as follows. I did an estimate for this customer back in February and he chose another company to do the work based primarily on price and the logic that how significant could the difference in quality possible be?. Once complete, the member recognized the subtle differences I spoke about during the first consultation. I was glad to get his call requesting another estimate for the master bath about 5 months later. He chose Budget bath Inc. to do the master bathroom and it really turned out great. Upon inspection of the other bathroom renovated by one of our competitors the differences were minor but when put together they add up to a less tha professional job on many levels and it was noticeable. The other company clearly did not have the experience to adjust their installation techniques to create proper transitions at key points in the room. Actual wood left in the window sill inside the shower instead of tiling the jamb to seal against moisture and decay. The tiles were crooked in some places and the tub was not set level although it was close, eventually this will cause problems on the floor. The sink vanity was set off center to the sink because they did not know any better. The light was installed in it's original location which was way too low for the style of light and the mirror picked out by the customer. My client was smart enough to see the overall lack of expertise by that company and not make the same mistake twice. Remember.....you can't return it to the store if you don't like it when buying home improvement. It is a different purchase approach than everything else we are used to buying. Thanks Members for letting me tell this story so other may benefit.

Dave really helped us re-imagine the space by explaining from the beginning that he could tap into unused dormer space. He drew a detailed plan, and then followed through, just as he promised. We were able to pick all the flooring, faucets, and other details. Dave even rebuilt a closet adjacent to the bathroom because the space had to be reconfigured. We certainly didn’t expect that. This was a major job involving about 7 weeks of full-time work. Dave House and the Budget Bath crew were on the job five and sometimes six days a week, working 12-hour shifts. These guys don’t quit until the job is done. A job like this is very messy, and they did their utmost to clean up every day, laying down tarps and vacuuming thoroughly. They stored tools and materials neatly. Dave also did a good job letting us know where things stood, what came next, and checked in with us on all the key decisions. Bottom line: If you are contemplating a major bathroom remodeling project, you cannot do better than Budget Bath.
Description of Work: This was a major bathroom remodeling job. Dave House and his crew stripped a 50-year-old bathroom down to the studs, popped out the dormer to create additional space (constituting an actual second-story addition), and then built us a modern new bathroom that’s three times larger than the original and looks exactly like what you see in an upscale hotel. This job involved major demolition and hauling away of all the old interior, including shower, sink, cabinets, tile and all debris. The results are spectacular and well worth every penny. The key to this contractor’s value is that he is the owner, he does a lot of the work himself, and he specializes in bathrooms, so he has a lot of expertise. He employs his own tight-knit crew; has a great sense of design; and really listens to his customer. Nothing is outsourced or done generically.

I like the job and I like what our bathroom looks like. Anybody who uses this company needs to be very good with the computer because everything is online. He doesn't come in with book samples, he writes up everything and puts it on the computer. Know everything you want to do as soon as he comes because the add on prices may be high. The workers were pretty friendly, as a resident in your home you should come back and check just to see what's going on. They come back and fix your stuff; he doesn't give you a warranty but he says he'll come back anytime during that year if something goes wrong. We had a problem and called and they came right back and fixed it. He gave us a jacuzzi toilet and the seat was messed up and he came and fixed it for us as well. Make sure you check that everything is sound and is securely in place. Check on permits and make sure you know which ones you need for that city or county. It took about twelve days which we felt was a little too long. The work done is great. I would use them again if they cut down on their time.

The job took over a month to complete for a simple bathroom. We were told it would be 9-10 days. The workers often left to go work on other jobs the company was working on. Some, but not all of these times, were because something needed to dry (tile, paint) and it ended up dragging out the job. This was frustrating, especially since we couldn't use the bathroom the whole time. The workers were always professional, nice to talk to, and cleaned up well after each day's work. The work itself was good, especially the built in custom cabinet and trim work. The company was responsive to several minor problems with the work. Despite these minor problems, I would work with them again.
Description of Work: Complete bathroom renovation. New tub and tiled enclosure, new toilet and sink. New built-in storage cabinet, new medicine cabinet with mirror, lighting, towel bars, ceramic tile floor, painting.

Response from Budget Bath
Hi Budget Bath and Angie's List fans. We, at Budget Bath, work hard to impress and satisfy our loyal clients. We also guard our reputation as well. When a customer provides an inaccurate report, we take it seriously and wish to set the record straight in a professional and respectful way. We appreciate that our client took the time to create a review and are grateful for the positives as well as the negatives so we can make improvements wherever possible. The overview for this project is as follows: There was a mother who did not live on the premises, whose name I do not know or have ever met. She owned the house, but was not able to be a part of the design or proceedings because of health issues. Her daughter, who also does not live on the premises, had power of attorney over the property where the work was to occur. This daughter was the one who contacted Budget Bath Inc. for an estimate for a professional bathroom renovation. The client chose Budget bath Inc. to perform the work. The daughter did not wish to give us a key to the property so we could expedite completion of the bathroom. An Aunt, who also did not live on the premises, was designated as the contact person to permit entry each day. She needed a little advance notice as to arrival times etc.so she could be there to let us in to work. This can be cumbersome to our momentum as it is difficult to predict arrival times but we all did the best we could. The first daughter, who originally signed the agreement, was never present during any of the construction, nor did we have any contact with her during the renovation. A niece, who did live at the premises with two children, had a car accident on one of the days and the Aunt had to leave and go to the hospital, which caused some delay or a redirect on our part, but minor really. The bathroom was completed in about 10 business days. They were also given permission to use the bathroom fully until the cabinet doors for the custom built linen cabinet arrived for installation. The cabinet doors were the only thing remaining to be installed in the entire bathroom. I do not know why the customer implied that the bathroom took over 4 weeks to complete...... maybe because there were so many people involved that some of the details, times and minor interferences went unaccounted for which is understandable. The compliments and recommendations by this customer were very much appreciated and we hope any misconception or inaccuracy has been corrected with all due respect to our client.

During construction, most everything went smoothly. The workers were here when they said they would be an left at reasonable breaking points for the jobs they were working on even if it meant staying into an evening here or there. We had a few minor miscommunications with workers on the job, but if it seemed I couldn't make what I wanted understood, I called Dave, by phone if he was not on site that day, and he listened to me and clarified to his workers. There was some trouble sealing off the joins between our old pipes and the new pipes for the toilet, but they kept coming back and shifting things around until the leaking stopped. I believe eventually they cut out another section of old pipe and brought the new that much farther down in order to avoid an awkward join that may have been refusing to seal. One minor electrical issue was noticed at the very end of the job and Dave had an electrician come out promptly to fix it. The new wider bathtub would have put the door's trim in a spot where water damage was likely. Dave spent quite a some time talking with me about our options. We felt a new door would look out of place in that hallway, but wanted the peace of mind of not having to worry about damage. In the end we selected to remove the door from our bedroom closet, it was the same as all the other doors in the hallway and use that. The inside is painted white to go with the bathroom and the outside has the same recessed areas and stain as the other doors in the hall. The extension of wall trim fits right in with the trim it is next to and once we get it painted it will be impossible to tell that the doorway had been wider. All in all, I am beyond pleased. He did exactly what I asked for, I have a beautiful classic bathroom that looks good in the house and can be customized to almost anyone's color preferences. He helped me pick out a vibrant blue green for the ceiling, but all the tile and woodwork is black and white, so if I grow tired of it, it is simple to repaint and have a renewed look. He was responsive to my calls and professional in his work on site.
Description of Work: Dave and Budget Bath completed our bathroom remodel. They ripped everything out to the studs from about 6 feet up to the floor. The ceiling and upper walls were kept where possible because there was no reason not to do so. We had 2 in-house estimates done and Dave's basic estimate was about the same base amount as the other company's. However where Dave said his was a fixed estimate, the other company made it clear that even going with 8" tile would be an upcharge from the 12" they bid at. We have a lovely small pattern tile on the floor and 4" on the walls and it looks great. Larger tile would be very odd in our little bathroom. From his base estimate, we opted for upcharges to replace the window, get a wider and deeper bathtub, and build the medicine cabinet and a linen cabinet deep into the walls. So without more than 3 inches of protrusion into the room, the medicine cabinet is the full depth of the wall. It's fabulous!

,Had 4 estimates, Budget Bath was in the middle -clincher was owner Dave House"s experience with bathroom's and You Tube video's showing Dave's work and him testifying against shady contractor's. Dave showed up on Sunday morning to give estimate-which we appreciated.Spent the time to explain everything.Mr.House even rearranged his schedule to make sure the work was done by Thanksgiving! Work started on Nov.14 with Dave's crew covering everything as not to make a mess on carpet. The entire crew was extremely courteous, professional, and did great work. Budget Bath went above and beyond what was called for in the contract by climbing into the attic and finding live wire's just cut off and laying there, finding out the old exhaust fan did not have a hose at all and fixed it,little thing's like filling hole's in the hallway wall, never making alot of noise-I work nights, and keeping the hallway clean and clear were appreciated by the whole family! Budget Bath showed up when they said they would, did absolutely great work and finished before Thanksgiving and with Angies List 500.00 coupon came in under budget! Quick note-on the last day of work Dave House came to review the finished project noticed the sconces were a little high up and had them moved about a foot lower. We could have lived with it but Dave was right it looked better lowered. Who would do this after the job was done? Only someone who cared about their work, reputation and customer. We could not be happier with the job done on our bathroom and look forward to having Budget Bath back for future project's!

The estimate process went very well. However, after reading over the estimate again, I felt that it was too much.
Description of Work: Requested a free estimate for a bathroom remodel. Mr. House was very specific in his estimate. He suggested a lot of improvements that I thought were really not necessary as it would be "over the top". We did not want to spend that much money for the small bathroom that we have. However, his price was probably fair for what he was proposing to do.

Response from Budget Bath
We are professional bathroom renovators and we know exactly how much a bathroom renovation will cost even for a low budget project. The cost factors are based on everything we see during the consultation. The older the house is, the more problems we are likely to encounter with the floor and the plumbing. So, whenever a customer rejects our estimate due to price, I always encourage them to wait as long as it takes until they have the funds necessary to do the project correctly. Otherwise, they will likely be throwing money away by doing a band-aid fix or sub par quality repair. I hope this customer takes my advice regardless of who they hire to do the work. Best wishes and good luck to this customer.

Overall we are very pleased with the result. The job was estimated to take about 10 working days to complete. It actually took 13 days. The demolition created a lot of dust that got into both floors of the house, even into rooms with the doors closed. The biggest problem encountered was the initial installation of the new L-shaped shower rod. It was too high and the brackets were not properly installed. This was quickly and expertly corrected. The contractor was very responsive in correcting other noted deficiencies. The two cabinets installed had minor cosmetic flaws--in our view, not sufficient to warrant replacing.
Description of Work: This was a complete bathroom renovation except for the tub--we opted to use the old tub. The old tile floor and subfloor, including all plumbing, were replaced. In addition, the over 80 year old hot and cold galvanized steel water pipes from the basement to this second floor bathroom were replaced with copper ones. The demolition of the floor necessitated replacing the wall baseboards and molding. The existing light fixture hanging from the ceiling was replaced with a wall fixture mounted over the new wooden medicine cabinet. A second wooden cabinet with mirrors was installed over the toilet. The shower was moved from the side of the tub to one end. All existing plumbing fixtures were replaced. The finished bathroom walls and ceiling were repainted.

Our apologies to our customer for taking 3 extra days. I believe they may have forgotten that we started on a Monday following hurricane Irene which rolled through Baltimore the prior Sunday evening. We showed up on Monday as scheduled anyway and completed as much demo as we could in the dark as there was no power in the entire neighborhood for most of the week. We needed to run an extension cord 200 feet away to a neighbor on another street that had power just to satisfy power needs for simple hand tools. This may have had an impact on completion time?

David showed up for the estimate in the evening so my husband and I could both meet with him. He had wonderful ideas on how to remodel the bathroom and it was clear that he took a great deal of pride in what he did. He spent a great deal of time with us and drew out a detailed picture of the bathroom remodel including all options. We ended up going with another company that was highly recommended on Angie's List because of the cost. Since we were not sure how much longer we were going to keep the house, this had to be an option for us. However, it was a tough decision and we would still recommend David's company - even though his price was higher, he had a wonderful imagination and was very professional. I'm sure he would have built us a beautiful bathroom.

I believe that he thought that our project was too small. He was not willing to meet our needs as a customer.
Description of Work: A gentleman came out to look at our kitchen for a remodeling project. He did not get back to me for two or three weeks. I contacted him for an estimate. He wanted to do the highest price estimate for the work. I asked him to work up a quotation for doing it different ways to cut back on cost. He was suppose to call me back and I had not heard from him for at least 5 weeks after our previous phone conversation. I called him to recieve the estimate. He did not mock up the two different designs for the kitchen and had no interest in doing the project at a lower cost.

Response from Budget Bath
The customers review is generally accurate. I have to do a good job no matter what the budget, because in the end the customer is going to judge the overall finished product. Even when a customer suggests they do not really want a perfect job they are usually the ones who complain in the end that the job was not done right. The floor was out of level by more than an inch. The kitchen cabinets were disintegrating with several drawers missing or coming apart. The cabinets were crooked and never installed correctly in the first place. They asked me to fix these conditions without replacing the dilapidated cabinets. They also wanted me to install a new counter top on top of the crooked cabinets. If i were to disassemble the cabinets and try to re-install them correctly they would have crumbled in my hands. If that were not bad enough, they wanted me to simultaneously protect the linoleum floor that had been meticulously cleaned and maintained for about 30 years. This was the shiniest, most cared for piece of linoleum I have ever seen in my life. I really did not know how to approach this customer with the truth and I was just hoping to avoid any discomfort on their part which is why I did not respond further or offer my services. They focused so much on cost during the consultation that I knew there was very little I could do for them.

We have had 4 estimates total including Budget Bath. Budget Bath was over twice as much than any other estimate. Let the contractor know that his estimate was extremely high and although he did respond quickly he refused to budge in the budget. I understand that to get a quality product sometimes you need to spend a little more. I have no problem with that. In fact, most projects we do around the house do not come from the cheapest bidder. But to submit a bid for over twice as much as the next expensive bid is a bit much. All of our estimates were from licensed contractors. Each of them had A ratings from not only Angie's List but also Service magic.com. We look to make sure everyone also is licensed in VA and has no complaints from the BBB before anyone comes out to give us an estimate. We do not use handy men, one man operations or unlicensed contractors. Nor do we even bother getting estimates from them. The contractor we went with had a A rating from both websites listed above along with a VA license. We gave them the exact same project list that we gave Budget Bath (and all the other contractors who gave us estimates). The contractor we ended up using came in at half of what Budget Bath asked for. They did a wonderful job and we gave them an A rating. I knew exactly what I wanted and told Budget Bath. We wanted new tile in the bath/tub area, new tile on the floor, under floor heat (which Budget Bath said they don't normally do, not sure why, our contractor did it with ease), new window over the toilet (we have newer vinyl siding, 5 years old, although there was no need to match since they just added white trim after installing the new window), and a new cabinet with top. The only item we were not sure about was a new tub. I don't know how to be more exact. To try and twist my words and say I did not know what I wanted and I used unlicensed contractors for my other estimates is stating I did not know what I was doing. We hire plenty of contractors to do work on our house and we make sure we do our homework before asking anyone to come give us an estimate. All contractors must have A ratings from Angie's list and servicepro.com. All contractors must have a VA state license and have no complaints with the BBB. Please consider this review carefully before hiring Budget Bath. The fact that they tried to defame my review shows the unscrupulous nature of their business practices.

Response from Budget Bath
First, I want to thank this customer for their honest response. I believe the customer was probably comparing our pricing with one man operations, handymen, or potentially unlicensed contractors so that her perception of real contractor pricing may have been thrown off. Budget Bath does not claim to be the cheapest guy in town. We are able to adjust the cost of a bathroom renovation according to the customers level of desired results. I felt the customer was somewhat vague as to exactly what she wanted, and in addition she also wanted us to add a window over the toilet on the second floor with the outside having rather old aluminum siding which needed to be matched... A difficult proposition. I felt the price was safe in the sense that I could give her modestly upscale products while ensuring there was enough room in the budget to complete the project in a professional way without having to come to her after the job was started and request an increase in funds to cover the potential unknowns that were clearly present during our first consultation. I was surprised at the somewhat venomous review and hindsight suggests maybe we were lucky not to have been hired by this client anyway.
