This bathroom is mostly used by guests, but it needed an upgrade on a budget. Dave and his team did a great job refreshing the bathroom at a reasonable price.

This was our 4th experience with Budget Bath. We keep using them because we get quality work we can rely on. We originally were going to renovate our main bathroom. But after discussing with the contractor, we decided to convert a 1/2 Bath to a full by using a closet adjacent to the 1/2 bath. This required relocating the attic access that was in the closet, rebuilding and slightly expanding the closet to accommodate the shower stall. The contractor assisted in picking the tile and the granite vanity top. The final outcome is beautiful and functional and now gives us two full baths. I only downgraded the rating on price because I have nothing to compare to. However, you get what you pay for and the product and the work experience was outstanding. One final note, even with the inevitable household disruption, they cleaned up every night.
Description of Work: Renovated a half bathroom into a full bathroom with a shower stall. Moved the attic access.

Budget Bath was fantastic. Around April 2015 we realized there were leaks in some of the basement ceiling and utility room ceiling. We could also hear a frightening sound of water dripping inside our living room walls. I should also mention we bought this house 2 years ago with "newly remodeled" bathrooms, so we were very irritated. We called Budget Bath to take a look and Dave came out to examine the situation. That is when the real horror began. After assessing the situation, Dave tore down a big chunk of dry wall in the living room to expose a nightmare scenario of dry rotted soaked wood that had been accepting leaky water for years from the bathroom above (recently made worse). He told use we would need to replace the "new shower" in the master bedroom, the internal wood crucial to the house structure, and a new drain for the very old bathtub in the main bathroom. Shell shocked, the wife and I asked for him to draw up an estimate and we got on the line with the insurance. As new(ish) set of home owners we were very nervous and Dave helped us get started with the insurance claim and told us how to proceed. The one complaint, if you would call it that, was how slow it took to get back to us with the estimate. We were given several dates and they kept getting pushed back. We did get a personal response and very sincere apology from Dave given how busy he was and sick during the time, but we went several weeks on end waiting to get back to the insurance company. I did up this to a B rating vs the D I was originally going to give because of Dave's professional attitude and accepting personal responsibility. Once we had a go date, the crew kept to the date and boy did they work their tails off. I'm talking 7:00 AM prompt arrival, breaks few and far between, and major daily progress often with later evenings (stayed till 6 to 7 PM but always asking us if it was okay). The total job was completed quickly from start to finish considering all they had to do. I never felt stranded or like I had paid them and progress was not being made. We were able to get all of the project done in a reasonable time frame with Dave often over seeing individual parts of the project and checking in regularly with his crew. Would suggest them and I do plan to use them again in the future, hopefully under circumstances of choice rather than an emergency! Very happy with Budget Bath!
Description of Work: Fixed rotted support beams and internal wood to house, replaced bathtub drain, ripped out old shower and installed new walk in shower nearly twice the size.

I absolutely love our new bathroom. Dave, the owner, is extremely nice and collaborated really well with us. My husband and I had never went through a renovation before, so we ended up asking a lot of questions and Dave was very patient and gave us a ton of helpful information. His crew was extremely nice and respectful- not to mention they always cleaned up at the end of each work day. Would definitely use them again for another project in the future! I appreciate all their hard work- the finished project looks incredible. Thanks again!

The renovations went great, and better than expected. The bathroom had to be completely redone, and the concrete floor removed to move the toliet to the opposite wall. It turned out very nice. The choices of tiles were abit limited, but I chose one that matched well with the vanity and paint. The paint choices were almost unlimited. The bedroom turned out very nice, basic, but very spacious and functional. The closet is spacious, but set up is basic, with only a wooden pole and one shelf. For a basement bedroom it is more than adequate. Am pleased as I feel I got what I paid for. Is not high end, but I wasn't aiming for high end, as I needed the renovations to fit in with the current style of the house which is very middle of the road, and functional.

I hired Budget Bath to renovate my master bathroom. My house was built in 1959 and had a very small and very ordinary master bath. I wanted to enlarge it and create a larger shower (the old shower was 30" x 30"). When Dave House came to do the estimate he walked into the space and immediately had a vision for really good and creative use of the space (we did also move a wall). I was instantly drawn to his creative and can-do attitude. The estimate was a little less than others i had obtained and with custom add-ons came up to about the same amount that other companies estimated. My decision to hire was based on a combination of valued custom ideas, the overall quality of plan and the ideas offered. I was not disappointed, in fact am quite thrilled with the quality of the workmanship and the friendliness of the crew and flexibility of design discussions. Mr. House and I communicated often by text which worked very well for me and I always felt like I knew what was going on. In addition the members of the team were so friendly that a visitor commented on how much more friendly they were than people who had worked in their house. They really became trusted guests in our home for the month that they worked with us. They even liked our dog, who apparently one day stole one of their sandwiches - sorry guys! The job was completed just before Christmas and they have since promptly addressed small follow-up items. I would absolutely hire this company again, in fact intend to use them to update another bathroom. In summary Budget Bath offers quality craftsmanship, innovative ideas and a really friendly crew (you will want this - they essentially live in your house for the period of time they are working). I trusted them and am ecstatic with the results of their work.

They haven't met their own schedule. The payments are supposed to be in 25% increments. We made a payment of 25% for each bathroom as a down payment. It looked like they were trying to get things done in a timely manner, and we gave them another 25% for each bathroom. According to their schedule, the second payment was supposed to be given when they finish all the plumbing and electric, and that hasn't been done yet. Now they want a third payment for the master bathroom, which according to their contract, the 3rd payment is not due until after the tile is on the floor and the walls are finished. There is partial tile on the master bath floor, but the walls and shower are not done yet. In the main bathroom, the subfloor is down and they are currently putting in the plumbing and electric. They are not meeting their time schedules, but they are now demanding more money. They did this without any discussion with us about revisiting the payment schedule. Today, 11/19/15, the workers of Budget Bath have gotten the tile down in the master bath and today they put the tile down in the hall bath. We thought that we would give a payment to Mr. House based on his initial payment schedule and he refused the payment! Why? Because he has created a new payment schedule, emailed it to us and would like for us to pay him according to the new schedule because it asks for more money!
Description of Work: We have two bathrooms they are supposed to be remodeling. The contract was written in April, but the work just began at the end of October. They have taken materials that we have purchased for the job, along with some of my tools, and have stated they will keep them until I make an additional payment. They took them off site and are using them as leverage to receive another payment. They want an additional $3700 in order to proceed. But they haven't met their own checkoffs for payment.

This client was difficult to manage almost from the beginning. There are several areas where he influenced or sabotaged the project as well as the relationship with me and the skilled installers. It appears as almost boarder-line mental illness which cannot be compensated for as we genuinely and respectfully tried to overcome his perpetual interference. Budget Bath Inc is an excellent company with a long history of consistent high performance which is why Mr. and Mrs. (Member name removed) hired us. Yet, despite being so renowned, this client wanted to use his materials and his suppliers. Although this is not our standard protocol, I agreed to use his tile company and install his vanities, that was supposed to be the maximum involvement in the project by the customer. The proposal is very specific and detailed. Our process has been developed over the years and is proven to be efficient and successful. (Member name removed) failed to make progress payments on time. He began directing and instructing our employees on how to do their jobs and what parts to work on without consulting me or the project manager. He attempted to have us do extra work without approval or a written acknowledgement. He forced our installers to set up and work in the back yard as far away from the bathroom as possible. He became irate one day and refused to let the workers out of the bathroom. I even appealed to his wife by email to intervene so we could work unimpeded. Every recommendation I made to (member name removed) was in the spirit of their best interest. (Member name removed) broke our momentum throughout the project. I think he either wanted to do the job himself or he does not have the money to pay for it or does not wish to reward professionals for their wisdom or their work. Our installation crews almost refused to work for this man. For me, it was a daily persuasion to even try to finish. (Member name removed) will not even allow me to speak without interrupting or talking over me. What does a business manager do against these difficult odds?

I had a 70's style bathroom in my rancher with pink tiles on the walls and a green tub/toilet/sink. It was disgusting with a rotting subfloor and no ventilation and a window. Dave came and gave me an estimate back in March, however my boss had me obtain some other pricing since this is a rental unit and we were spending a big chunk of change (their price was the lowest). Work was started after Labor Day and completed within the time frame. Communication was challenging at times but worked out in the end (secretary out of the office, no one checking emails, no answer at the office). My bathroom is gorgeous and I have Dave and staff to thank!

We live in a 100 year old house. This alone provides difficulties in any type of repair. From the beginning Dave House had a plan and executed it well beyond our expectations. His team of workers always showed up on time, were very neat, and answered any questions that we had. We could tell by the way they worked as a team they were not sub-contractors ( one of the reasons we chose Budget Bath ). Dave was on site almost daily, bringing us samples of tiles, paint and fittings as well as working on the project. We would not hesitate to use them again and highly recommend them to anyone else.

TERRIBLE. Once we signed the bathrooms renovation contract with Mr. Dave House, it became very difficult and unpleasant to deal with Mr. House on the renovation work. At one point, Mr. House directed us to contact his forman (john B.) and office manger if we wanted to discuss the project. Once the bathrooms were completed and within a 15 day period of time, the second floor bathroom tiles became loose and the grout began to chip and crack in numerous places. This caused sharp edges to the tile and we had to stop using the bathroom. We contacted Mr. House and his staff as we were instructed and received no response. After several days, my wife contacted Mr. House on his cell telephone and he referred to my wife as a 'liar', cheapskate and a person who could not be trusted. We then contacted the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint. We contacted the Maryland Home Improvement Association and filed a similar complaint. We are waiting the result of those investigations into our complaint. We have photos of the damaged tile floor that we can share. A tile contractor from Angies List looked at the tile floor and concluded that the subfloor was inadequate and the floor tiles were not properly glued to the floor with an adhesive. As a military veteran, I am dismayed at the response from Budget Bath and Mr. House's lack of respect for a veteran and his family. I would not recommend this Company to my friends, co-workers, neighbors or any person seeking bathroom renovation work. We are very surprised that their rating with Angies List is not in concert with their performance and anger displayed by their owner, Mr. Dave House.

We completed 4 beautiful bathrooms for this client. Two bathrooms were completed on Lynch Avenue in January of 2014. We did such a great job that this client selected us and our talented crew to complete two more bathrooms on Wild Ginger Court in October of 2014 because they were pleased and satisfied with our design and installation expertise. At the time, we both enjoyed a healthy business relationship and I really liked (Member name removed). Our relationship soured when they delayed payment upon completion of the two Wild Ginger bathrooms. Their personalities changed. They became elusive, not answering their phones, not returning calls and avoiding us in clever ways. I lost trust in them. They asked us to do a tile repair job in their home and I declined. Our office manager called me a few weeks ago and said the (Member name removed) called about some tiles coming up in the second floor bathroom and that they wanted us to give them an estimate for the half bath bath at the Wild Ginger Court job. Normaly I contact the customer and set an appt to have a look to figure out what happened. Before we had the opportunity to handle this situation with our normal protocol, they started harrassing us individually with multiple separate phone calls. They called our office then my cell then my project manager over and over. The disturbing part of their behavior was when they called my project manager and told him they had spoken to me and I requested that they to call him directly to set up an appointment to look at the tile..... which I never did. I became suspicious of this back door attempt and told John not to go to the appointment and that I would handle this myself. (Member name removed) called my cell and I expressed my displeasure with her lack of integrity and underhandedness. Despite their scheming behavior, I still went to the property and examined the loose tile. There were about 4-6 tiles loose on the floor on the opposite side of the bathroom away from the sink, toilet and tub. I have done quite a few bathrooms in this neighborhood and I know there is sometimes a vent pipe in the bedroom wall that goes up through the roof. If the roof boot leaks, the rain water can sometimes trickle down the pipe inside the wall and puddle on the floor when it hits the plywood. If this did occur, and thats what it looks like to me, then the water might get under the tile cause it to come loose. I saw no indication of negligence on our part. The tile on the other areas was solid. The customer also filed complaints against us with BBB and MHIC. The complaints and description of events were different in each report. In one report, The client admits the house was unoccupied for almost a year. That is much different than this report. I will submit the BBB and MHIC reports to Angies List for their review. Since we had such a wet spring and summer, plus no one was living there to observe the conditions during this time, my professional conclusion is that something other than poor workmanship caused the tile to come up. The worst part of this review is the clients clear conscience on distorting the truth. The review states "within a 15 day period of time " when in fact it has been almost a year since we last worked at this job. They said they had to stop using this bathroom when actually, they may not even live at this address. I believe the property is a rental. When I visited the site there was a mother and young daughter living there. The client also states that another contractor looked at the job and concluded the subfloor was inadequate and was not properly glued. We used the same technique for all 4 bathrooms much to their satisfaction. Although I could ellaborate further on this topic, The (Member name removed) have told half truths, distorted the facts and are angry because I would not allow them to take advantage of us. Had they been forth coming and honest in the beginning, I am certain we could have worked this out without the drama. We want to do the right thing in every situation. Our Top rating with Angie's List for ten years is an accurate representation of our level of consistent performance and one of a kind bathroom renovations. Warm Regards....David A. House

Mr. Dave House was very professional during the estimate process. He laid down all the options and we established an agreement that worked well with what I wanted and my price range. Mr. House and his crew did a great job completing the work. They were timely, kept the mess contained and completed the job with no exceptions on my part. My bathroom was completely gutted, all materials were included in the price, and a custom built into the wall. The driving factor for the lower grades was the quality of materials showed to be low grade or not made for a bathroom soon after the remodel was done. The cabinet padding lining the doors began falling out, the tray in the shower stall was on a mount that became lose and stopped holding the tray in place securely, and the faucet stopper stopped functioning properly all in less than a year. I called Budget Bath at some point after one or more these items stopped working and received no response. I posted a comment on its web page hoping to catch there attention, but got no response. Budget's unresponsiveness to my concerns after the job was completed had an impact on view of the company, customer service should not end just because you are paid in full and the job is complete.

Thank you for such an honest review [Member Name Removed]. I am sorry about the poor service after the work was complete. I would be upset too. I asked everyone in our office if they ever received a call or an email about the repairs form you and not one person was able to find any record of an email or phone message. I am guessing you called the wrong company perhaps ? If the work was completed in 2012 and we are now in 2015 it is difficult for us to verify your request from 3 years ago. I am also a bit confused about some of the items you described in your review statement. I know we use excellent products for our renovations and a majority of them are hand picked by me personally. If we did use inferior materials I am sure there would be a significant number of complaints of a similar nature which there are not. Sometimes the improper use, care or neglect of our completed bathrooms can hasten the deterioration process such as not closing the shower curtain all the way or using harsh cleaners. I am not sure what happened but given the chance we would certainly have responded in a professional way to resolve any of these problems. I will ask Ms. Kristy to find your file and call you so we can have a look. David House

Budget Bath came up with a design for the bathroom that I didn't think was possible. Without changing the wall layout, they increased the usable area in the bathroom, making it a more functional and appealing room. The team worked very hard to make sure the project was completed by Christmas Eve and ensured that we had a beautiful bathroom. They worked with us on the tile, paint colors and made excellent recommendations to bring everything together. We LOVE our bathroom and we will be using this company again!!!

The guys showed up on day 1 on time and ready to work. Through the entire process they arrived on time and worked hard. My husband and I were never disappointed with the speed or quality of the job. The team did run into some unexpected repairs but dealt with it and moved right on. No phone calls to me at work asking what to do, it was just handled. The end product of our bathroom remodel is everything we wanted. It looks amazing! It's important that this bathroom is beautiful and fully functioning as it is the only bathroom in the home. The job was done in the time quoted and I have zero regrets for using Budget Bath. Even neighbors of ours spoke with the guys and mentioned to us how nice the team was. Finally, every email I sent to the office was responded to in record breaking time. No sitting around and waiting for someone to get back to me. Very impressive! No complaints and no hesitation to refer this company.

I'll start with saying that the finished product is exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be happier! There were several reasons we picked Budget Bath for this renovation: 1) Dave was honest, authentic and had a great design sense to complement his construction knowledge and experience. So I was able to deal with one person who helped with the design and signed off on the finished product. On a personal note, we had some great talks about Christianity, spirituality and beliefs - Dave never forced this on me, but we just got in to these talks - this was not my main reason for selecting him of course, but it certainly positively affected my selection. 2) Budget Bath does not sub-contract - All the guys who worked at our home were employees and very polite and professional. I trusted them in my home for many days when I was not there. 3) They were able to customize our design - Dave not only suggested and designed around our needs but was also able to deliver - e.g. we wanted more storage and they built a really nice cabinet above the toilet (generally wasted space otherwise), which is very spacious. I also didn't want my counters to be cluttered with stuff, so they build extra-deep medicine cabinets with electrical hook-ups, so that razors, toothbrushes, etc could all fit and stay charged in the cabinets (they then selected simple mirrors for the front face and voila! - We have concealed, functional medicine cabinets. No other builder was able to customize our design the way that Budget Bath did. 4) Dave advised us - there were a few ideas I had in mind (e.g. half-wall for shower) and Dave was able to explain why it would not be a good idea (long explanation with customized glass, cost, etc) - so even though he could have just done it and charged us, he provided a thorough explanation and gave us the choice. There were a few things that didn't go according to plan - it did take longer than expected due to a few things beyond their control and we had a couple of issues with minor leaks from the shower glass, but Dave was quick to resolve them and actually came out and did the work himself. The cost did increase, but that is mostly due to the upgrade in tile that I wanted and it was worth every penny. Our finished product is an upscale master bathroom, that truly looks and feels like a grand en-suite. Moreover, it's exactly what we wanted and with ever other quote, we were in bit of a compromise position. I would happily recommend Budget Bath and will be using them in the future when we go to renovate our other bathrooms.

Thank you [Member name removed]. Our client was very involved in the selection of materials and the design too. She gets a lot of the credit for how the renovation turned out. She suggested we tile the entire wall behind the medicine cabinets and its spectacular. It truly is a five-star retreat that her and her husband can enjoy. I am really proud of our guys. They are so talented and our system really does produce top of the line bathrooms consistently. We created two custom over size medicine cabinets, storage niches in the walls and a custom built over size linen cabinet over the toilet. We also added sophisticated lighting over the tub and separate shower. The custom cut stone we selected for the shower seat, double sink top, thresholds and shelves compliments the tile she wanted. Her husband is serving in Iraq and Ingrid travels a lot due to her career demands and yet she finds time to raise children and do volunteer work at her church. They deserve a nice bathroom. Thank you for the " A " review.

How can I say superlative without gushing? Dave House (what a name for a contractor, yes!?) and his crew were consummate professionals. The bathroom is beyond gorgeous: grout lines are perfect, paint lines are perfect, tile is perfect, design is exemplary. All Dave's guys were personable, polite, cleaned up EVERYTHING, and performed beyond expectations. Budget Bath was one of four contractors I had in to estimate 4 bathrooms and 1 kitchen in a unique Fell's Point double row house. One contractor ran silently screaming from the admittedly unusual house, one gave perfunctory specs and never followed up, one gave no estimate. Dave "got" the houses (that my grandfather built, btw) and gave beautifully drawn specs via e-mail and postal mail, that addressed all my specifics and called to be sure I had everything I needed to make a decision. He is incredibly responsive, follows up personally, and was deeply involved in my personal satisfaction. This bathroom was the "test" to see if I would have Budget Bath do the rest of the considerable work I have in mind, and they passed brilliantly. I can't wait to do the next project with David House and Budget Bath.
Description of Work: Created a bathroom from what could best be described as a room with holes in the walls and floor, rotted floor joists, one working john, shower plumbing unused from the 1950's, and a water heater that should have been in the Smithsonian. This was a circa 1940's addition to a 1930's Fell's Point house (built over 1855 foundations). Budget Bath did everything from new ceiling to new floor, and everything in between, including installing an on-demand electric water heater.

Wow....that was quite a positive review. Thank you (member name) For the " A ". I also appreciate my client's accurate description of the unique difficulties associated with a renovation of this caliber. Nothing was square or salvageable. Nothing was level either and new challenges presented themselves everyday. Rotted floor joists, a deteriorating main water supply line and dirt floors in the crawl spaces. It was actually fun to be able to develop a solution for every problem we faced. Our client completely trusted us and had faith that we would deliver on our promises. The existing space was basically a dungeon and that is no exaggeration. We rebuilt the plumbing and electric systems, stabilized the floor joists, built new walls and a new ceiling. We added insulation and created an almost square room. We had to skim over some of the stone and brick walls with new plaster because we were tight on space. We added classic finishes and subway tile with black accents and the bathroom looks as if it has always been there. Our client really appreciated our clever problem solving skills and recommendations. We like being someone's heroes. I am glad our client accurately described the existing conditions because it really is about who can you trust ? and who really has the legitimate experience to deliver a beautiful product regardless of the existing conditions. Hopefully after reading our client's review, potential clients can understand that we are definitely different.

To start things off the salesman, a Mr Dave House, shows up over an hour late, he did call but not until he was already 15 minutes behind. Upon his arrival I showed him to the bath being remodeled and explained what I wanted, Mr. House replied with "We're not going to do that. This is what we're going to do". He then proceeded to inform me that the style of floor (Paper) (Yes paper, look it up on you tube) and type of window (Glass block) and shower enclosure (Fiberglass pan, tile walls, glass door) I wanted would be unacceptable. His people would do tile floors, a standard tub, ( I wanted a shower enclosure only ) and a standard double hung window. He then spouts off some line about how building codes requiring this type of installation. What a load of dung. The only code that applies to this bath is the installation of an exhaust fan, which I specifically included because I was having the only window ( In the shower stall ) closed off with glass block. I agreed to consider an estimate with tile floors but required the shower "only" stall and glass block window. Weeks have now passed and Mr. Dave House has never contacted me again. No estimate, no phone call explaining they wouldn't be able to do the job, no follow up, nothing. How the heck can a company do business like this? I don't want or need a salesman to tell me what they think I want, I know what I want. It's up to the company to make that a reality. Budget Bath's work may or may not be good, I don't know. What I do know is that my impression was that of a company looking to do quick in and out work with the simplest and most basic styles and materials. I would not recommend this company to anybody looking for work above builder grade.

I appreciate this clients perspective and he is entitled to express his opinion in our Angie's List Forum. I CHOSE NOT TO WORK for this client for several reasons. After reading his review, my assessment of his personality appears to be correct. I recognized this client would have been difficult to please regardless of how well we performed. I expected a nasty review and there was no way it was going to be avoided. So, I will address his concerns and offer an accurate description of events. I arrived in time to see the client walking up the sidewalk towards the house. He did not live at the residence so he must have driven to the premises from elsewhere. I was on time for our appointment. As I sat in the bathroom "to be renovated" he explained what he wanted, I listened, taking notes. It became apparent that he knew more about renovating bathrooms than I did. He was dictating to me what he wanted us to do, how to do it and the products he wanted us to use. I respectfully offered my suggestions and explained that a fiberglass insert would not be in his best interest because there was a window in the tub area. Installing a three piece surround with a window can be done, but its never a long term solution. The plastic molding needed to seal the window sill is only as good as the caulk and silicone. The water pools in this area because of the molding and it is only a matter of time before it gets behind the wall panel causing it to separate from the actual wall. I advised him that the best way to prevent this was to use ceramic tile. Done correctly, we could slope the window sill and the tub area would remain problem free for another 25 years and probably more. WHEN YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT RIGHT, IT I S IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IT WRONG. This client demanded I do it wrong and I just can't do that. I tried to help him understand that it was in his best interest to let us do it correctly. I described in detail our process and the cement products we would use, yet he was still irritated. He then began to describe his desire for the floor covering in the bathroom. He wanted Budget Bath Inc. to install a " paper floor ." I explained I had never heard of such a thing and since I had no experience with that product, I could offer no insights except that a paper floor in a bathroom did not seem like the right product in an area that would be subjected to water, steam and possibly an occasional toilet over flow. Well......he became slightly irate at this point and said I could find the paper floor installation instructions on the internet. I explained that I did not want to do that and I am not willing to install a product I know nothing about. This client wanted a low budget price, but wanted our company to do things we are not good at and know will fail in the short term. We consistently produce top quality bathroom renovations delivered by our staff of trained professionals. The reviews on Angie's List display that performance clearly. This client was looking for someone to argue with and he got what he wanted. I should get an " A " review for trying to do the right thing and offer to help this uncooperative client understand what was best for a successful project. I was just trying to help this man get an estimate on a bathroom renovation that Budget Bath Inc. could build properly and also provide an excellent warranty as we always do. I am surprised he was offended by that. I saw no reason to provide an estimate for a client who I regarded as toxic.

Dave House and his team took on a bathroom re-design with an extremely small space in a victorian rowhome. There were several challenges - there is not one level floor or straight wall in the house, the plumbing system has been modified over the years - with a few surprises to be found! We wanted oodles of storage space and a "built in" feel to the design. Dave was the only contractor who provided a really insightful design for the limited space and the cost was not overly more than the other quotes we got. We were not living in the building while work took place so I can't comment on that aspect of the work but the end result? - WOW!!! I can't believe what a good job these guys did (and according to Dave a lot of prep work went into making sure there were "flat walls and floors" etc etc) and I believe that makes the difference in the high standard of work Budget Bath delivers. We have a truly beautiful bathroom which I and my husband are really delighted with. I would highly recommend Dave and his team, we would certainly use them again.

Thank you [member name removed] for your kind review. It is always nice to get an " A " from a client. The bathroom had been renovated by another contractor just a few years ago. It was an OK job but our client knew that they could have done as good a job themselves. That is a sobering event and it is quite common. The friend or neighbor down the street gives a low price and people just can't resist the perceived savings. To our client's credit they learned from their mistake and decided to hire the best company in the business. I am not sure if they even sought other estimates. We created the design together and [member name removed] has wonderful taste which made it easy for us to select tile, paint, fixtures and hardware. This was a converted condo in an old late 1800"s building in downtown Baltimore. We were surprised when completed the demolition. There were pipes and a large brick foundation right in the middle of the floor. We were able to keep the design, but we had to modify our plumbing and electric to make it work which we did at no extra cost. The design included a new shower with a stone seat, custom storage over the toilet and custom built plaster shelves in a small cavity in the wall. [member name removed]selected a classic tile which really fits the decor and style of the original building. Oue clients were a pleasure to work with. They were so trusting and allowed us to have a key for access while they were in Europe. Successful renovations like this are the result of good client / company relationships and communication. I appreciated her ideas and also for her support for Budget Bath Inc and our staff. The bathroom itself is an " A " too.

Thank you [member name removed] for the " A " review. You were a gem to work with. You get an " A " too. This very old 1880's row house in Baltimore was a challenge. We discovered a broken cast iron drain hidden in a brick wall and a few other surprises but we were able to overcome them and stay with our design. Designing around the tight spaces was a challenge and the curved wall was difficult too. Ultimately, the bathroom is beautiful. [member name removed] chose some unique paint colors that enhanced the entire job. We are looking forward to completing the next bathroom soon.

We did not nor would not have this company preform any work.
Description of Work: I called this company to discuss a bathroom remodel. His overall demeanor was unprofessional from the very beginning of the call which just worsened as the conversation continued. His attitude and estimate was way out of line with reason. Granted he did not have the benefit of looking at the actual job but after his comments on the phone I was absolutely not inclined to schedule any such visit. If I hire someone to help us with this job it will definitely not be this guy.

I did not speak with an Edward Martin. I had an interesting conversation with an interesting person, I assume was Mrs. Martin. I listened to her explain her bathroom situation in her 1920 house for more than an hour. The floor joists were uneven and moving. The tub and toilet are leaking through the ceiling. I tried to giver her advice. She was very reliant on a friend who is a contractor, but her friend does not know how to proceed with some of the complexities involved in doing a proper and professional renovation in a significantly older home. This client wanted our company to "help" them do parts of the renovation themselves. She asked me where they could find a four foot tub or if that size even exists. She continued to tell me that the tub was cut down and welded back together to make a smaller tub. I did my best to guide her in the right direction. She asked my opinion of the cost if our company were to do the repairs. Our Angie's List reviews reveal the general cost of our professional renovations. My over-the-phone guess of cost must have been simply offensive. I only told the truth. Older homes are tricky and you never know what you will get when you begin removing tile and flooring. Houses built before 1950 tend to have rotten joists and the framing is typically way out of level. All these things need to be addressed and corrected before we can even begin the actual bathroom renovation. We usually are forced to replace all the water lines and drain lines too. She referred to her contractor friend often and I do not understand why she would call us for advice and then provide a vindictive review with an "F". I was only trying to help her understand the seriousness of her renovation. I believe there is more going on here than is revealed in her review. Her provocative demeanor was obvious from the beginning. Of course I regret any time I am not able to assist a potential client. I never visited the sight for a free inspection and consultation. I just tried to help and advise by phone giving reasonable explanations coming from more than 30 years of experience in bathroom remodeling. Maybe she was having a bad moment...I am not sure, but she still proceeded to give an otherwise excellent company with a proven track record of performance a spiteful "F". We did "zero" work for this client. Warm Regards David A. House......proud owner of Budget Bath Inc....the best people make us the best in the business.

Dave's estimates actually came in substantially higher (~$16,000 - $20,000 higher) than the other companies I interviewed for my remodel. I ended up going with Dave because (1) he definitely is not a sleasy salesman like some of the other guys, (2) he owns the business and personally stopped by my house three times before I signed to discuss details, and (3) most importantly his design ideas were by far and away the best. I am not very good at visualizing what I want, and I rely on my contractors to give me ideas. Dave did this in spades while the competitors suggested cookie cutter stuff. Also, I know Dave has done several houses in the neighborhood I live in which all have a consistent look and feel so I knew he was familiar with what we wanted. I did this project when I was 9 months pregnant--insane, yes. The project did go longer than I anticipated by about 3 weeks, but in the end it was all worth it. Dave was very responsive to my comments and changes. All in all I think I had about 10 guys working on the house. Dave sent me their names and pictures in advance so I knew who was coming to the door (which, as a woman at home alone and pregnant, was very much appreciated). Budget Bath's staff is probably their greatest asset. These guys are really nice. I swear, I felt like I had my brothers working in the house. I couldn't walk very well because of sciatica and they were always willing to help me out with mail, the dogs, bringing samples up to the third floor for me, keeping noise down so I could sleep, etcetera. Honestly every single one of his team members isa top notch, salt of the earth quality guy. I have three large dogs and they were really sweet to all of them too. His guys were also really helpful in picking out designs since, again, I have no clue what I want design-wise. I felt comfortable enough with them for them to have key card access to my house when I wasn't home as well. I would highly recommend Dave, his team, and Budget Bath.

[member name removed].....Thank you for the " A " Angie's List Review and your kind words about our talented staff. [member name removed] bathroom renovation was necessary because the existing bathroom was renovated by another company before they purchased the house. It was a poor design and poorly constructed. They used a nice vanity that did not go with anything else they installed in the bathroom. The toilet was right in the middle of the room and there was actually a lot of wasted space. We decided to move the toilet to a side wall and install one of our unique custom built recessed linen cabinets above it. To make room for that, we had to make the shower a tiny bit smaller but the benefits outweighed the sacrifice. We found a really nice double sink vanity too. We installed two petite pendants in the small cathedral ceiling area that really had an impact on the overall feel of the whole space. We also installed two small recessed lights in the shower to highlight the beautiful tile work. I found this really cool long mirror on line and it fit perfectly and she was excited about that too. I struggled to find a light that would work in a five foot space so I decided to install four small individual wall sconces spaced evenly above the mirror and that worked nicely. The bathroom is spectacular and our client was just great to work with. Thanks [member name removed] and congratulations on the new baby !

The owner came up with some good design ideas, but the price was much higher than other very detailed bids I received (by more than 25% - and his estimate was not detailed at all - just an overall number versus a detailed list of services I received from others). Before I made my decision, he tried to get the business by telling me that his design ideas were proprietary - um, ok, this is my bathroom, and if I was hiring him for intellectual property, we would have a contract that would say as much. Actually, in the end I went with a totally different design. He kept asking to also meet with my husband, which may work for some people, but my husband is too busy and does not want to be a decision maker on this kind of stuff. After the third request, I became offended by the suggestion that I couldn't make these kinds of decisions by myself (and since I am the only owner of this house, there is no reason to insist that he get my husband's input). I also added a walk-in closet into the job, and he kept telling me that I didn't want it, and that it was his job to reign in client spending. Not knowing my financial situation (although admittedly I did ask for a much smaller job initially), I felt he overstepped the line. When I decided to go with another contractor, he sounded pretty offended, and sent me a rambling email saying how I would regret my decision because he is the best and other people ask him to come back and fix jobs after other contractors screw them up. He is booked months in advance and I can only assume that his work deserves that kind of demand, but I am not into paying 20% higher prices, and he certainly did not earn my trust. I debated even writing a review because I didn't witness the quality of his work, but after I received the VERY LONG email that was written to criticize my decision to go with another contractor, I decided that there were too many red flags that I would want to know about if I were on Angie's List looking for a contractor. In the end, I am thrilled with the contractor I did select, and despite the doomsday warnings from the guy at Budget Bath, I did not have to pay 25% more to get a high quality job from a capable, polite, trustworthy contractor.
Description of Work: I asked Budget Bath for an estimate on a very small bathroom redesign, and in the process realized that I really wanted two bathrooms plus a walk-in closet done at the same time.

Response from Budget Bath
Thanks for your opinion [member name removed]. I would like to respectfully respond. I never expected this potential client to perceive my advice in this way. I am genuinely disappointed that I made such an impression. As usual, there all always two sides to a story. I spent over 4 hours, during two separate appointments, with [member name removed], designing her new bath space, asking questions and exchanging ideas. After our initial meeting, which was the day after Christmas, she invited me back for a second consultation. The project we eventually envisioned involved converting one poorly designed oversize bathroom into two bathrooms. We also planned to create new door openings and substantially modify a walk in closet. This included relocating all plumbing and electric and with tight quarters to do it. She asked what I thought it would cost. I knew it was a complex endeavor and I simply gave her an approximate "verbal" quote based on my experience so she could begin to evaluate her own budget. She asked to make a copy of my design before I left so she could show her husband. She was very optimistic about Budget Bath Inc's reputation and seemed very motivated to proceed to the next level. I wanted to develop detailed drawings and specifications along with a proposal because the job was more complex than a typical bathroom. This takes time and I called to verify if she was interested in pursuing the project further before I devoted more time and effort. She mentioned often during our consults, that her new husband was away and that she wanted to discuss the cost and design with him and then she would get back to me. So far so good....right ? Since the new space was complicated, I thought it would benefit her husband to hear my explanation in person. He may have different questions and sometimes plans develop in a different way when both spouses are present. I want people to get to know me as we build a relationship of trust before the project even begins. I thought we might be able to finalize just the design together since she was reluctant to do so on her own. Only then could I create a contract. All indications were that we were moving in the right direction. I still had not created a written proposal yet. One of the reasons I was critical of other contractors was because a substantial amount of work had been done in the home in other areas and the level of quality was poor. She pointed to several areas where work was substandard and I explained how we would have done that same work differently, in an effort to display my expertise. When I called to set up a third consult, she informed me thy had chosen another contractor. I had never met her husband nor submitted a written proposal. In an effort to persuade them from possibly making the same mistakes they had made in the past, I offered some very worthy advice. The same advice I would give my neighbor. I care about people whether they are customers or not. In some situations, no good deed goes unpunished. This may be one of those situations. I apologize to our Angie's List clients for such a distracting review. Budget Bath Inc. did not provide an estimate for, nor begin or complete any work for this client. I cannot imagine the outcome had we done so.
