This was a major project in an older home, 65 years old, to renovate a small bathroom, 5' X 7', and to make it more accessible for a special needs individual in a home caregiving setting. In early March 2011, by researching Angies List, I began the process of interviewing contractors and obtaining estimates. David House, owner of Budget Bath, met with me for 3 hours on March 16th, and made the most impressive and effective presentation of the contractors I interviewed. He was the only one who proposed the idea of enlarging the bathroom as part of the renovation, not simply trying to redo things in a small space. While his estimate was higher than his competitors (for the base renovation, without considering the costs for the buildout and enlargement), I liked the obvious pride that he took in his work and I liked his ideas. (I also had performed research on each of the contractors I was interviewing previously and had noted and was impressed by his videos on You Tube.) As a result, I did something I never do with contractors and I signed a contract on the spot, giving him a deposit. Work was scheduled to begin 10 weeks later. The quality of work that was performed was very high. The final result was very satisfactory. The crew that David used, and I believe it is his only crew, was the most mannerly contracting crew that I have ever interacted with: Antonio, Chis & Eric. Dave was also involved in much of the work himself. While the work took longer than planned, not necessarily surprising given the extent of the job, but in key areas, this was also due to the extra attention that Dave took in those areas, to do the job right rather than trying to perform a shortcut. As a result of the job that Dave performed, I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who is contemplating a comprehensive bathroom renovation. On a numerical scale, I would give him a grade of 90 out of 100. But in point of fact, he would have been very close to getting a 100 from me. So, why not a 100 and "A's" as grades all the way through? Because I think Dave will actually read this and may find these comments constructive and helpful, I would also like to cite some areas for improvement. From my experience with Dave and the company, I believe where there is room for improvement is due to the fact that Dave and his crew operate to the max and the question is whether they are stretched too thin. For example, Dave performs everything for the company: He is the salesman (eg, he met with me for 3 hours even though he was on another job), he is the crew foreman and he does some of the work himself. As a result, he seems to have little or no extra time to devote to preparations and planning for upcoming jobs. In my specific case, even though 10 weeks elapsed from contract signing to showing up on the job, materials were not ordered until they were on-site, some equipment they had to borrow from me, and the necessary permit was not obtained until after work had commenced. In my specific case, I think Dave and his operation would have benefited by having someone who could have performed some of the planning and preparations for the actual job prior to coming to the job site. Dave is an extremely hard worker and takes pride in his work. His crew is likewise. But issues did arise during the project and we worked through them, but in my specific case, they seemed to be due to the fact that Dave and his company are stretched to the max. His work speaks for itself, but I would caution Dave to monitor the situation so that his operations don't reach a "breaking point." While the quality of his work seems not to be affected currently, I would be concerned that if something happened in the future (illness or something similar), it could seriously affect the quality of his work. Where I have given a grade of "B," is due to this fact and not due to the quality of work. For example, Punctuality: there was a problem at the beginning because Dave was on other jobs and I didn't know when he would come for the day, but once I brought that to Dave's attention, he was punctual to a "t" and always kept me informed of the day's schedule. Responsiveness: Dave was generally responsive to my concerns and suggestions. One area that could be improved was in the area of knowledge and sensitivity towards the necessary physical accommodations for individuals with special needs. This is not Dave's fault because from my experience, I think that anyone who is a caregiver knows that non-caregivers do not have a very good idea of what is involved in accommodating individuals with special needs. In my case, not only have I been a hands-on caregiver for 12 years, I am very active in the caregiving field including making presentations at various caregiving seminars and forums and I have also participated in the development of national caregiving policy for the Medicare and Medicaid programs. So, I did suggest some ideas to Dave that he had not considered: eg, no locked doors in the bathroom, the use of lever handles for door handles and for faucet fixtures, etc. To his credit, Dave listened to my explanations. I don't think he entirely understood the "why" of all of my suggestions. So I think it is important for me to mention this because if someone is thinking of making renovations to accommodate an individual with special needs in their household, for work that will be performed by any contractor, they must be very attentive and involved in the entire renovation process because that will be the only way to ensure that the renovations do indeed make the necessary accommodations. In summary, Dave performed a highly satisfactory job and I would highly recommend him. The only reason I point out some of the "shortcomings" is that I think Dave's work is close to being as perfect as a contractor's performance can be and I wanted to bring those areas to his attention.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of a downstairs bathroom in a 65 year old home. This included entirely gutting the old bathroom and enlarging the new bathroom by building out and installing all new fixtures and plumbing, with an emphasis on making the new bathroom totally accessible for a special needs individual in a home caregiving setting. Therefore, the renovation was comprehensive: not simply plumbing but including carpentry, tiles, electrical, heating system, painting. The renovation project began with the start of demolition on May 23rd until final completion on June 30, although the bathroom was usable on June 18, 4 weeks after commencement of work.

The work went smoothly and took 7 days. No work was done on the weekend because the condo rules do not allow weekend work. The workers worked steadily and did not rush. They were careful The tile work looks beautiful. As work progressed, we were consulted on many details so that mistakes would not be made.
Description of Work: Demolition of existing bathroom in one day. Installation of new tile around tub and wall tile. New tile floor. New toilet, sink, cabinets.. Installation of new plumbing fixtures in tub and sink and toilet. Painted walls. Employees were very professional , courteous and anxious to please. They cleaned up each day before leaving and put down protection in work areas. This work was done in an apartment condo which has rules for the benefit of owners and not always convenient for workers. They were obedient of the regulations. David House, the owner, was very pleasant to work with and made sure the work was done according to plan. We have another bathroom which needs to have a remodel. We hope that Budget Bath will do that one too.

The process took 4 wks. We had used Budget Bath in March to remodel our basement bath, so we were able to use that bathroom during this project. As before, Dave and his crew were professional and considerate at all times. Dave was present for approximately 75% of the work, but even if he wasn't the other guys - Eric, Antonio and Chris - contacted him if they had any questions. Again, they cleaned up after each day, let us know when the water would be off and for how long, and were as quiet as possible during the work (e.g. no loud radio playing all day). Our bathrooms are gorgeous and we couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Dave and his crew remodeled our 2 upstairs bathrooms: the master bath (approximately 30 yrs old) and the hall bath (original to the house, 50+ yrs). Both are full baths; the master has a shower and the hall has a tub/shower. Both bathrooms were gutted and rebuilt, including sub floor and dry wall. In the master bath the toilet and sink were relocated, a shower with slate tiles and glass doors and a slate floor were installed. In the hall bath the toilet was relocated, a pocket door installed and ceramic tile on the walls around the tub and floor installed.

The tiles broke in our master shower, requiring major rework. We decided to take advantage of the situation to enlarge the shower. There were a number of ways the shower could be enlarged, and we chose Budget Bath of the three companies we interviewed based in large part on David House's willingness to work with us. We met with David House a couple of times before signing the contract, modifying the original plan, and remodifying the plan. The final plan called for enlarging the regular showed by inserting a bench against one wall, pushing the shower into the bathroom by the size of the bench. This called for moving the plumbing slightly, building out a wall, and adding a recessed ceiling light. Water had been getting under the floor tiles, so we opted to replace the entire floor. We are extremely pleased with the result. Budget Bath wanted to use real stone for the bench, but we preferred Silestone, for its lower maintenance burden. This required a special order and greatly delayed the start of work. I wish Budget Bath had done a better job of keeping us informed of the status, even if it was a bi-weekly call to say the stone still had not come in. Instead, we had to call them for the status updates. Once the Silestone arrived, they scheduled the work to begin shortly after that. They worked quickly and in less than two weeks we had a new bathroom. They laid down plastic over the carpeting, so they didn't leave any mess behind on the inside. One complaint is that they left cigarette butts outside. We weren't paying attention--I'm sure they would have clean up the butts if we had asked, but we failed to ask. Nonetheless, they should have cleaned them up without asking. They workers kept us apprised of their progress, so we knew what to expect from day to day. We had to make some decisions regarding fixtures and tiles. It would have been better if Budget Bath had presented us with choices earlier in the process, but we are equally to blame for not asking. We were focusing more on larger design issues and overlooked some minutiae. Two workers did most of the work, and one was clearly more skilled and experienced than the other. He would sometimes go back and fix mistakes that the other made. The results are top quality, and we are extremely pleased.
Description of Work: We redid the master shower. This started with tearing out the old shower and ripping up the tile floor. The new shower is about a foot longer than the old shower. The extra size is a bench we added against the far wall. In order to extend the shower, Budget Bath extended a wall by about a foot, and moved the shower plumbing over slightly. They built the bench with a Silestone seat, replaced all the shower tile, and installed new tile on the floor, with new molding. They installed a recessed ceiling light over the shower. We kept the original lavatories, cabinets, and toilet.

The work took about a week and Dave was there from design to the lask bit of caulking. Dave spent a considerable amount of time with us in Lowes to pick out our tile and the vanity and sink top. He even hunted down the tile flooring we wanted when the place he usually got it from no longer had it in stock. In the end we were very happy with the result. It looked even better than I imagined it to look. His crew were polite and extremely clean which is a plus when working on a bathroom attached to a bedroom. I waited awhile to write the report in order to ensure the quality of the finished product, and 7 months later it still looks great. The only issue I have (and it is a very minor one) is that the clear caulk (or whatever it is) used to finish sealing the tob into place has yellowed but it's not a huge deal. I've attached before and after pictures to let the work speak for itself. In the end, we appreciated Dave's design expertise and patience as we figured out what we wanted to do. He and his crew are true professionals and we look forward to hiring them for the rest of our bathrooms.
Description of Work: Dave and his crew remodeled our mold-ridden upstairs master bathroom. The work included demo of the entire bathroom, installing an American Standard whirlpool soaking tub, subway tile with pewter tile accents, granite bench and 5 ft height shelf along the wall of the tub, shower curatin rod, new toilet and new floor tile. They also installed a new vanity and sink top that we bought separately.

Dave and/or his crew arrived as scheduled every day; they finished the job in 9 days - a day earlier than anticipated. Everyone was polite and professional at all times. They informed us when the water would be turned off and for how long; they cleaned-up at the end of each day, and removed all the trash. They also painted the wall outside the bathroom where they had to break through for wiring and plumbing. The finished product is exactly what we were looking for. This is the first of 3 bathrooms being done by Budget Bath. They will be back the beginning of May to do the master and hall bathrooms on the first floor.
Description of Work: The basement bathroom was totally remodeled - new shower enclosure, medicine cabinet, light fixture, sink and toilet. Shower enclosure and sink were relocated within the space and the door opeing was reversed to maximize the space in the bathroom. New drywall, wood trim and ceramic tile floor were installed.

We will probably use Budget Bath. They fell in line with the other estimates we received. He looked at the room and had a lot of great ideas. He listened to our comments and what was most important to us. He broke down the quote and explained the extras we could do. He was extremely knowledgeable. This was probably the best quoting experience I have ever had. It did take me a while to get a response from him but he was on time for our meeting.

At the interview, David was positive, knowledgeable and able to provide all the various specialties needed. The work started on scheduled in the family room which showed more damage than my husband and I expected. Mold was removed and new drywall and moulding were expertly installed by Eric. The next project was enclosing the bypass pipe which turned out much better than imagined. Eric showed he possessed a craftsman?s skill. One morning he planned to finish about 4 p.m. but ended up leaving around 6:45 because he wanted everything perfect. And it was. The family room and garage drywall was primed. Every day all material was removed and the area cleaned. These projects were done first so my husband and I could paint those areas while the bathroom work progressed. The bathroom was torn down and replaced. I had no idea of the amount of work that goes into remodeling a bathroom. The prep work was extensive despite finding the bathroom in essentially good shape. All the new fixtures, flooring and paint were applied in short order but with great precision. The bathroom looks terrific. The ceiling fans and hallway light were installed in a snap. The built-in bookcase was remedied. David even reinstalled the hinge of one door of an antique barrister bookcase that would no longer close properly. He and the entire crew worked extremely hard, every day, including one child in college and one in high school. Everyone pulled their load. Their travel time was an hour or so, thus they had a heck of a commute just to start each day. Everyone from David to the youngest member were polite and courteous. One member asked to use the microwave to heat up his coffee before moving on to another job one day. Someone requested a paper towel on two occasions. This is a very impressive company.
Description of Work: A wet foundation was recently found in a room that is slightly underground. The drywall and moulding needed to be replaced, and the carpet removed. The built-in bookcase’s outlet needed to be repaired, and a rough hole in the bookcase reamed. A new hallway light needed to be installed. The ceiling of the garage needed new drywall, and a bypass pipe coming out from the hallway ceiling but exposed in the garage would look better covered more fully. The main bathroom needed to be remodeled. Two ceiling fans needed to be replaced.

Found Budget Bath through Angie's List and placed a phone call. Dave House responded immediately and answered all of my questions. Within a few days he came out to conduct a free in-home consultation. I had a good idea of that I wanted and Dave respected that. He also provided design ideas based on his experience. He has a highly professional team that delievered a fantastic bathroom within budget and on time. GREAT JOB!

I needed an estimate to fix a leak desperately. Dave was great and stopped on his way home from work...calling a few times to update us on the time to make sure it wasn't too late. He was thorough and gave us an estimate on the spot. He is definitely a "hands on" owner of the business who obviously works diligently to accommodate his customers. If everyone gave this kind of customer service...life would be great!

Dave was a joy to work with. He was the only person who was on time to give an estimate and didn't object when we weren't ready to sign a contract that day. During our first two meetings, he listened to our ideas and concerns then said, "This is what I hear you saying", and provided a solution. He was creative and suggested things that never would have occurred to us. He understood our desire for an accessible bathroom and designed the bathroom to fit those requirements. And he was good at thinking of small details, such as a sink faucet with a hose for someone with limited abilities and keeping floor space open to provide for turning with a wheelchair. Space for a door was a problem, so he suggested double doors that would fold flat against the wall. He even replaced the old yellowed fan cover on the ceiling. His price was higher than some, but he was the only one who included all the fixtures in his cost. He offered us his choices, but was willing to replace those with our preferences when necessary. He and his crew were the first that didn't balk at moving the toilet, since we have no basement. They made sure I examined and approved of everything before it was installed. And he designed and built a medicine cabinet that met our needs for storage and for things we wanted to keep handy, such as toothbrushes. His workers were friendly and professional and careful to clean up each day before they left. And they were dedicated. When our power went out the first day, they continued to pull up the floor by flashlight. Since this is our only bathroom, they also temporarily replaced the toilet at the end of each day. When we bought the house, we knew we would need to remodel the bathroom somehow. I hated that room more and more during the year we were investigating possibilities. Now our bathroom feels twice as big and I enjoy going in there.
Description of Work: All of bathroom except shower was gutted and replaced and made handicapped accessible, as much as possible in a small space. Location of toilet and sink were changed, new tile flooring installed, recessed linen cupboard was built into the wall, medicine cabinet was designed and built, walls were painted, door was replaced, grab bar and towel bars were mounted on walls.

The service was excellent. The representative presented options by price and examples of previous work which instilled immediate confidence in the company. I had so much faith and trust, that I allowed the workers and boss work while I was deployed in Afghanistan. I provide a general idea of what I was looking for and told them to make the decision while I was gone. They went above and beyond expectations and provided superior results. In addition, they were kind enough to send video updates over email. My only failure was waiting so long to write a report they were more than deserving for. True Professionals!!

From start to finish it was a great experience. Dave spent an incredible amount of time with me getting a sense of my needs and proposing ideas about design...that was before the contract was even signed. Once I elected to use Budget Bath, things proceeded quickly and the work progressed mostly on schedule (an extra day or so was needed due to the tile order coming in late but that was not a problem). Throughout - Dave and team members checked in about the progress and I also spent additional time with him in tile shops picking out the final products used. The bathroom is stunning! One guest, seeing it for the first time said :"He's a genius!". The space was small but the design has proven really beautiful and now seems actually spacious. I had other estimates that were lower but I did not trust that they would stick to budget (as is assured with Budget Bath) and they did not take time to explore options with me. Due to the age of my house (@1880) and a previous leak, the team encountered some nasty stuff and had to work around older & bigger beams which complicated the project. Dave kept me informed the whole time. A mid-project request for a change, though it involved more work, was accomodated graciously and Dave assure me that the final goal was for me to be happy. The final product is amazing and not only will I enjoy it for years to come, it will enhance my resale value. It looks much more expensive than it actually was. Dave is truly enthusiastic and passionate about his work which made the process fun rather than anxiety provoking. Fantastic experience overall.
Description of Work: I contracted with Budget Bath to redesign my very small bathroom. My bathroom was redesigned, gutted and remodeled. This included removing and disposing of the old fixtures, moving plumbing to accomodate the new design, reconstructing the floors & walls, building a custom shower stall and custom shelves, rewiring, installing wainscotting, new sink & toilet, painting and tiling.

We used Mr. House before on a job at our condo, and when we moved into our townhouse, we decided to hire him again to remodel a hall bathroom that was outdated. We were price conscious and wanted to find as many ways as possible to save on the job. The original quote included painting the bathroom ($500) and moving a light switch ($400). We decided to paint ourselves before the job started to save money, and hired our own electrician (David Williams Electric), who did the light switch job for $275. We had this done prior to Mr. House starting the job. Mr. House is very personable and shows a lot of passion for what he does. He went shopping with us and helped us pick out wall tile, flooring, fixtures and a vanity top. However, he did not write any of the details down. When it came time to do the job, the flooring and the vanity were out of stock, and he was unable to get them in the timeline he had given us (two weeks). We had gone shopping several weeks prior, so this was frustrating. We went shopping again on our own and found a floor product at a different store that we liked, and Mr. House ordered it and had it within a day or two. Mr. House also offered to upgrade the sink top to granite and found a black granite top that was much nicer than what we originally selected. We had also picked out a shower head with a telescoping head, and he installed a different one. When we notified him, he corrected it. Since we decided to paint ourselves, Mr. House had written "no painting to be done" on the contract. In the course of the job, the workers had put mud on a good portion of the walls in the small bathroom. They had ripped out the anchors used to secure the towel rack and toilet paper holder to the wall and put mud over that, and they had mud all along the bottom of the walls where the tile molding had been. When the job was nearing completion, I talked to Mr. House because it did not appear they were going to touch up where all of the mud was applied. He then said it would cost $500 to have this done. He also installed brown, wood-tone shoe molding with a dark grain that did not match our gray/white/black color scheme. I asked him why white wasn't used, and he said it wasn't specified in the contract. I asked him to pull it up so we could have white, and he did agree after some back-and-forth to replace it with white. We asked Mr. House to stop work so we could do the painting before everything was installed. We realized the baseboards and shoe molding were unfinished as well. Mr. House agreed to paint the shoe molding before he installed it, but since the baseboards had been installed, we had to tape up along the floor and paint them. The painting issue was not addressed well, in my opinion. I don't know why he thought we would want them to install a toilet, two cabinets, towel rack, etc. on walls that had mud on them. We would have had to pull everything down to paint after the job was done. I didn't think it was unreasable to assume that touch up painting would be done since the bathroom had been painted when they started, and they did touch ups on the previous job at our condo. In another instance, we had in the contract for him to replace the light fixture. The old fixture was a vanity bar, and the new one was a sconce style. When he removed the vanity bar, there was not a light box. He did not charge extra, but we are not sure if he installed the light box or just rigged it. The light fixture does wobble a bit side to side. The attention to detail was lacking in other ways, too. During the project, we expressed concerns about our hardwood floors on the first floor due to water spots, and after that, they put paper down to protect them. There was also a dent in the wall in two places that they corrected at the end of the job. In general, the work was done by a few young employees, and Mr. House came by to check on the work a few times throughout the week. In the end, a few small details were not resolved. One of the trim tiles had a chip that was not repaired. We also did not get a glass shower shelf, like we had in our previous job and that we asked about during the last day. The granite sink top was not sealed. They broke the child safety locks on the vanity cabinet and did not replace them. One thing that irks me is that because the tub is wider, the toilet is now off center between the vanity and the tub. He centered the storage cabinet over the toilet, but it looks off. Also, even though the medicine cabinet and storage cabinet are both white, they are vastly different in scale, different knobs and different types of molding. I would advise making sure you see them before you decide to have the storage cabinet installed. Overall, Mr. House stuck to the budget, and the end product is almost perfect. To avoid the issues I had, I would recommend getting everything in writing in the contract (especially all of your choices during the shopping trip).
Description of Work: Removed shower & bathtub and replaced with wider, deeper tub model and tile surround and fixtures. Removed tile floor and replaced with linoleum and removed tile baseboards and replaced with wooden baseboards. Took up and replaced vanity base so linoleum ran underneath. Replaced vanity top with granite and new fixtures. Removed and installed new medicine cabinet. Installed new storage cabinet. Removed and installed new toilet. Installed customer-supplied light. Installed curved shower rod and towel bar (customer supplied). Repaired drywall where an old, flush-mount medicine cabinet had been.

Our client expressed their desire to save money as a priority. They had just moved into the new house. To accommodate their needs we did things differently than our usual "system." We upgraded whenever possible, but held onto our agreement despite their many efforts for upgrades, at no additional cost. I am glad they were pleased with the final product. This is the first time we have ever needed to respond to a clients review. If you want something for nothing you are lucky to get anything.

Dave House spent a lot of time with us planning our renovations and floating ideas, using photos of previous work and online sources for products to help us visualize the finished work. He was always prompt, professional, and enthusiastic about our job. He accompanied us on trips to choose tile and granite, brought samples to view and cheerfully made changes when we asked him to. His work is creative and yet professionally done. He had some definite ideas but was happy to accommodate to our wishes after discussion. We appreciated his attention to detail and it was actually fun to make decisions and then see our ideas come together. Dave was alert to ways to improve the space; for example he was able to accommodate a larger vanity in the small hall bath by removing and rebuilding drywall around the furnace chimney. The only area of disappointment was in the quality of the painting - this was done mostly by an assistant who was less than meticulous. Prep could have been better, and we had to ask for some areas to be redone several times, such as door edges where two colors came together. In retrospect, we wish we had hired our own painters. But all other workmanship was excellent: plumbing, tile, electrical, carpentry. Both baths are beautiful and admired by friends and family, and best of all, they promise to hold up well to continuous use.
Description of Work: Total renovation of two bathrooms (hall bath and master bath), with all work done by David House and his two assistants, including carpentry, dry wall, plaster, paint, ceramic tile, plumbing and electrical work. In the hall bathroom all fixtures except tub were replaced, but none relocated. The master bath was a complete makover, including moving a wall to enlarge the space, relocating all fixtures, building a walk-in shower, and building storage cabinets.

The whole experience was pretty good overall. Dave is the friendliest guy you could meet. He was very helpful in choosing what we wanted for our two bathrooms. Once we decided to go forward with the job we made the deposit, and then I think our job was lost for a while because we didn't hear back from Dave until I called him a week or two later. Then the job started. His guys were very clean and efficient. The job had some stumbling blocks, so it was delayed about a week from the original estimated time of completion, but it was understandable. Dave talked over the different tiling options with us and then gave us a couple of samples to choose from after we narrowed it down. The tiling looks great and so does the shower. The shower leaked just a little after they finished the job so I called up Dave and he came back and fixed it really quick. You can really contact Dave anytime on his cell and he'll get back to your pretty quick. He's a laid back guy and very easy to talk with and discuss options. He also really knows his stuff since he only does bathroom work. I have full confidence in his abilities.
Description of Work: Budget Baths replaced my shower with a new one, retiled the bathroom floor, replaced the walls by the shower with drywall with tiled them near the shower, added a light with a fan, replaced a bathroom sink countertop, and replaced a bathroom window with a crank window.

The total cost includes $20,210.06 that we paid directly to Budget Bath and $4,876.69 we spent on materials that we supplied. When the valve in our master bath/shower died this spring and we had to cut through the old fiberglass surround to cap the pipes, we realized the bathroom remodel we had been planning to do in the next few years was upon us. After exploring our options, we started gathering estimates. Budget Bath responded very quickly to my request for an estimate and Dave showed up promptly for our appointment. Of all the contractors I met with in this process, Dave was the only one who was clearly excited about the prospect of tackling this project and had useful and creative suggestions regarding how to make our new bathroom more attractive and functional. Dave understood our desire to move the plumbing to a location where it could be accessed without having to cut through the tub/shower surround in the future. A contract was drawn up and signed and we gave Dave a deposit. Dave and his crew showed up on time to begin the demolition on Sept 14. From there the project progressed steadily a bit each day. The only points of frustration were that the project took two weeks longer than anticipated and what time the crew would arrive each day was unpredictable. The work itself progressed very smoothly and the quality was outstanding. The final result is that we have an absolutely stunning, elegant bathroom. Dave paid attention to wonderful little details, installing bronze pencil tiles and strips of the same tile we used on the floor as accents in the subway tile shower surround. He surprised me with a tiled windowsill in the same tile as the floor. He built a beautiful knee wall for the front of the tub. He removed a nasty old pony wall and replaced it with a floor to ceiling pop out wall next to the toilet and added an attractive and very functional custom cabinet above the toilet. In the end, the bathroom looks like we spent at least $10,000 more than we actually spent. Simply put, if you are looking for a contractor who can help you make a bathroom look gorgeous and be as functional as possible without spending an insane amount of money, you can't go wrong by giving Budget Bath a call.

David was very helpful during the initial visit providing ideas we hadn't thought of and working with the ideas we did have. He showed us a lot of his previous work and suggested various colors/tile styles, etc. We had already received several bids, and he was in about the middle range, and we were impressed with his professionalism so we hired him that night. One disappointment was that we had him put "permits included" in his estimate, because we wanted permits pulled for this job so that it would be reflected in estimates of our property value. When he showed up to start the work, he had not pulled a single permit, saying "I didn't realize we were pulling permits for this job." He did finally pull individual permits for electrical and plumbing, but not for the teardown and remodel. The other big disappointment was his staff -- we were under the impression that he would do the work himself. He did do most of the finish work, but from teardown to drywall, it was just a couple of young guys with very little experience in the business and subcontracted electricians and plumbers (apparently, his guys aren't licensed to do that which is probably why he didn't want to pull permits). They drywalled over the HVAC vent, and made other minor mistakes including driving screws through the wall in the next room. These mistakes were fixed promptly, though. They also only really used drop cloths in our home when he was around. One final disappointment was the way his wife handled the closing of the job. She pushed us to sign off on the job completion before the final coats of paint were in, and before the handheld unit was installed in the shower, calling us every day despite us telling David more than once that we would be happy to sign when the job was 100% done, not 95%. We did eventually sign before the handheld unit went in, and they did install it 2 days later, so they were good to their word. However, I think it demonstrates a lack of professionalism. However, overall, the job was done well and on time. We are happy with all but one thing -- the glass shelf they installed in the shower is coming loose, and will need to be fixed, just a few months after the job. Still, the room looks great. David did a great job with the tile, and worked creatively with a very small space to give us a bathroom we are happy to use every day. For the money, I doubt we could have done any better in terms of the final product.
Description of Work: Completely gut and remodel bathroom. Put in tile floor, tiled shower/bath, new toilet, vanity, sink, etc. Moved shower head and put in a ceiling fan/vent to outside. Paint, trim, etc. included.

I wanted to stay true to the victorian style of my 100 year old row home in the city. Being an artist I had specific design ideas. Dave House had some great ideas too and we blended them to make the bathroom of my dreams. He was always enthusiastic, even through the plumbing issues we had. Dave even found way to use a piece of my marble as a decorative shelf behind my sink. He took a 5x7 bathroom with 9 foot ceilings and created something worthy of Architectural Digest. My daughter thinks it came out of a magazine but really it came out of my head and Daves of course. The end product is spectacular !!
Description of Work: Budget Bath did a complete bathroom renovation. Everything was torn out except the huge iron tub which Dave surrounded with a wainscot apron and had reglazed. All plumbing and electric was rerouted. The walls were replastered, the floor tiled in a classic black and white ceramic and subway tiles surround the tub. The tile work is very beautiful.

Mr. House came out to do the estimate and was very down-to-earth. We could tell he has pride in his business and his workmanship. He told us he is the owner/operator and personally ensures the work is high quality. His estimate was the most reasonable of anything we had and was only slightly more than Bath Fitter. He originally gave us some less expensive options because our tile/bath tub were not in horrible shape, but we opted to have the entire area redone. Mr. House provided an estimate, and we booked the job. We had to wait approximately two months because he was already booked pretty far ahead. Mr. House went shopping with us at Home Depot to pick out the tile and helped us select a very beautiful pattern. He did not charge extra to set the tile on a diagonal or to do decorative tiles interspersed. The "tile allowance" built into the price he quoted covered just about anything we could have picked out. On the first day of work, he brought two employees with him, and my husband stayed home. After that, we provided a key. The employees were professional and courteous, although my husband noted that one was an apprentice and frequently argued with Mr. House. There were a few small hang-ups along the way, but all of them were addressed quickly and to our satisfaction. We were planning on reusing our sink faucet originally, but it did not fit the granite top that was purchased. Mr. House purchased a faucet that matched shower fixtures at no cost to us. When our original sink top was removed, they had not taken into account that the side plate would not be replaced, so they had to come back on the sixth day to paint that area (it needed time to dry after patching). They also forgot to install a glass shelf in the shower; Mr. House came back and corrected that within a few days. Finally, a week or two after the work was done, we noticed a pinging noise after taking a hot shower. We called Mr. House, and he came out a few days later. We determined a pipe in the wall was vibrating against a floorboard, and Mr. House fixed the problem. We were thrilled he decided to grout between the tub and tile surround so we would never have to worry about caulk again.
Description of Work: Tub replaced with deeper, wider model, new tile surround installed, toilet replaced with Jacuzzi model and sink top replaced with granite. We also got new nickel fixtures for the tub and sink. The old tile surround was completely removed in one piece, and new greenboard was installed. The tub/shower cost $4,500. The toilet and sink top were about $400 and $500. Work took five/six days to complete. The area was cleaned up every day, and paint was retouched after the job was finished. They also installed an access panel in an adjacent bedroom.

It went well overall. The quality of the work is fantastic. The guest bathroom is beautiful and we're thrilled. The master shower is also beautiful. Everyone comments on how nice both are. Dave, Marlene and their people are extremely nice. Marlene sets up the appointments and she's very nice, easy to get in touch with and keeps you well informed as to hours, dates, etc. The only issue I will say is that its very hard to pin down Dave as to what the plan is for the rooms. We talked when we signed the contract, but I thought we'd have another meeting to go over the finer details. This wasn't a huge issue for me, as I'm very specific about what I like and did the research and told him exactly what I wanted, but to someone else, this might be frustrating. That being said, we didn't know how to do the floor of the second bathroom, and in five minutes he had an idea that turned out absolutely beautiful. He definitely knows what he's doing and the quality is definitely there in his work, it just takes a certain level of trust. The only other issue we had was that we ended up waiting a few weeks for some finishing touches and minor corrections to occur, but that was only a few weeks and they fixed it all within a few hours. Another big positive for us when picking budget bath is that they give you a quote and stick to it, assuming you don't veer too far off the original plan. This gave us a lot of comfort that we wouldn't be spending more than anticipated.
Description of Work: Budget Bath completely remodeled our guest bathroom, which included moving the toiled and sink, new flooring, wall tiling, shelving, toilet, sink, vanity and tub. In addition, they renovated our master bathroom shower completely (new everything.)

I contacted Budget Bath because I wanted to replace an existing jacuzzi tub that had developed a leak. Budget Bath met me at my house to discuss and recommended a replacement unit. The installation went smoothly and they were very professional, clean, and courteous. As a result of the installation, they had to do some tile work, which they did perfectly. The process was smooth and seamless and they communicated very well throughout.
