Steve the Fireplace Guy

My service date was in October 2012. I had wanted to get the gas fireplaces in my house checked out ever since I purchased my house in 2007. Finally, I decided now that I was an Angies List member, I would get a head start on the winter season and have the fireplaces inspected early. I chose the company, Steve the Fireplace Guy, based on the reviews I read on The List. The appointment was made for 2 weeks after the date I called; that was the earliest they could come. They showed up in the time window that we agreed to. They did a fine job, and the representative took the time to explain to me what they were doing, how the pilot worked, and how to relight it if I had any problems. I asked a lot of questions about the age and safety of the 2 systems. The service representative was very knowledgeable and friendly. I am happy that I took the time to ensure the systems were ready for the winter. I am enjoying using the fireplaces multiple times per week without worrying whether they are a hazard to my family. I plan to use Steve the Fireplace Guy again next year to make sure the systems stay in working order. Very happy with the company. Mark Scoville

The technician showed up on time, described his services up front as well as charges for each service. He actually went beyond the cleaning and repair that he proposed and painted the inside of the fireplace so it looked like new. He was very professional, took off his shoes inside the home so as to not track in dirt from outside. I would definitely use them again. And I am so happy that I am now able to use my gas fireplace again during the cold winter evenings!

I have a gas fireplace that has not worked in 4 or 5 years. Another company did not fix it when they tried last year. Steve the Fireplace Guy was very flexible in scheduling amd fixed the problem with my fireplace in less than an hour! I have had no peoblem with it since they were here. They will be on my "short list" of companies to call if i have snymore problems.

They were great to work with. They were very responsive and very neat and clean. They handled the problem very well and I'd work with him again. It was just great working with them.

Overall, the experience was outstanding. Mr. Swerdlin was part of a small team that installed the insert around a decade ago. He has been out to service the fireplace insert periodically at my request.

Thus, overall it was a low-pressure, highly useful service.

Kyle arrived on time, and was extremely professional. Initially, he spread cloth to keep floor at fireplace clean. Kyle diagnosed the problem accurately and cleared the blockage to the system and lit the pilot. He took the time to explain preventative maintenance that should be performed in the future and approximate life span of the system components. I am extremely pleased with this company's work.

Kyle arrived on time. Very pleasant. Clearly knew his profession! Dismantled the fireplace (after putting down a cloth to catch any debris) and had it working within minutes. Then he did a very thorough cleaning and maintainence. Gave me some tips on how to use the system. Overall very pleased with him and the company.

It was a PLEASANT experience working with Steve!! He is patient, responsive, and knows what he is doing. Due to our schedule with fireplace surrounds, Steve actually had to come 3 times to my house to finish the job and he never complained. The result is great!! We just felt so glad that we hired Steve to install the fireplace for us.

I called Steve and left a message and he called me back within the hour and was at my house in two hours. He was professional and helpful. My only error was in not establishing a price before he got started. He was at my house for over 2 hours and had a helper with him. The total price of $400 seemed high to me but he had been working all that time including having to re-build the starter because the parts are no longer available for this older model. I haven't had my gas unit serviced in several years and the last time I had someone out I wasn't satisfied with the work so I think Steve was dealing with a lot of problems with this unit, like that the fan no longer worked. The whole unit looks great and works perfectly now. Thanks, Steve! I am so glad to be able to enjoy my fireplace again. I just wish I had called you sooner.

I am so very pleased with the work Steve and his crew completed on my gas fireplace. They made it look better than brand new! Steve was prompt in returning my call for a service appointment. He was on time for our agreed upon appointment time. He was respectful of my home and cleaned up the work area after the work was complete. One of the rare characteristics that I don't see much in service providers these days is a 'love' for their craft -- craftsmanship. Steve and his crew exemplified this characteristic and the final work product showed it. I am on Steve's annual mailing list now -- Thank you Steve!

We would use him for installation (as we did in a previous home) and to service an account.

I e-mailed Steve and he responded with a phone call within an hour of my e-mail and set up an appointment for the following day. Steve and his assistant arrived on time and got to working testing my 19 year old gas fireplace. He found that my thermopile was wearing out and offered to replace it. Following this, they thoroughly cleaned the entire fireplace and even repainted the interior. I couldn't be happier with their service and plan to use them again when my fireplace needs any additional work.

Steve was great to work with. He was referred from someone at work and was rated highly on Angie's List. He met with us over the summer and spent an evening going over the different types of fireplaces and pros/cons. He was thorough and not pushy. After deciding upon the insert, he ordered for us and did the conversion in the fall. He did an excellent job and the fireplace looks beautiful. He cleaned up everything so you couldn't even tell we had any work done. We had some trouble with our remote and he helped troubleshoot the issue for us. I would highly recommend him.

It looks amazing, and he was willing to sit and talk about the remotes when we realized we hadn't included them in our original order. Incredibly thorough and detail-oriented, and a real pleasure to have in our house, he even cleaned the glass doors so they would be as clear as possible. I wish all our work had this level of service.

He sent somebody out right away to do the work. They were very responsive, and they fixed the problems for us. They took 1 hour to do the job. We had no complaint at all. Their price was very reasonable.

We have a ventless gas fireplace which kept shutting off after running for about 10 minutes. I emailed Steve based on his glowing reports on Angie's List. He said he charges about $200 to clean it. I told him that I recently cleaned it myself with a wipe down, vaccuum and even washed the lava rocks on the bottom. He suspected that the pilot light needed to be cleaned (I didn't do that), so I asked if he could reduce his rate to reflect just cleaning the pilot since I already did everything else. He was very amenable to this and said it would be just under $100 since I already did the time consuming part and all he would need to do it finish it off. I didn't know how involved cleaning the pilot would be, so I agreed. Hindsight, I should have asked, because it only took about 2 minutes. He came by later that day. I was pleased with his responsiveness, availability, flexible schedule, and his professionalism. Steve was very friendly and knowledgable. He resolved the problem quickly and charged $85 - exactly what he estimated. My only wish is that he would have adjusted the price down because basically all he did was take a can of compressed air and blew it twice into the pilot hole. Maybe he expected the job would take longer? He commented on what a thorough job I did with the cleaning - even admitted that I did more than he even does. He did take some time to show me how to manually turn on the fireplace. I definitely liked Steve so I will most likely use him again. Next time though, I will ask more questions regarding how he prices things out. Some companies price by time and that would have been great in this case since Steve resolved the issue in 15 minutes. He spent under 5 minutes to clean the pilot, and 10 minutes to test it and make sure the flame didn't go out.

Steve gave us good expert advice and explained the process and products as technically as we wished. The work was done neatly and on time. He had good attention to quality to the extent of rejecting the original surround due to a flawed finish on the metal facing. Unfortunately, Steve got ill, so we waited a couple of months for the replacement. He also had to replace a malfunctioning remote control which he gladly did. Steve was a pleasure to work with.
