Steve the Fireplace Guy

Steve and his crew were phenomenal. I don't think there's any way I can over-emphasize how impressed I was with them. Steve is a real mom & pop operation and you get individual attention that you really don't get with big service providers. And to boot, Steve's price for the work was more than competitive-it was excellent. When Steve came over to view where I needed the gas line and gave me a quote he immediately told me that the additional gas line should not be tapped off the gas line for the gas logs and explained in detail why that shouldn't be done. Every other service provider I had out to give me a quote said they were going to tap it off the gas log-apparently oblivious to the issues Steve pointed out (issues which seemed to me, once explained, absolutely logical). So right there he demonstrated competence over and above everyone else. As a female home owner I have often worried about contractors taking advantage of me, either in shortcutting the work or overcharging me. I would advise any female homeowner to call Steve-he's honest, knowledgeable, and does excellent work. I'd also like to note that the inspector (known to be an extremely tough inspector) mentioned he knows how Steve did "great work." Steve and his crew (Sharon and Kyle) explained everything they were doing before they started and also walked me through what they did afterwards. The icing on the cake was them hauling in a wet dry vac to clean up the work site-they were so considerate! There's really no question in my mind, if I need any work on a gas line done I'm calling Steve.

Kyle did a great job and got the fireplace working. He even spray painted the inside where it needed it an added some embers to make the unit look better. He was courteous and professional. I would definitely recommend them to service your gas fireplace.

Great:-). We had done quite a bit of research, but needed input from experts regarding the long term reliability of various brands. Steve (and his assistant, Sharon) helped us select an excellent product, and let us know what to expect during the installation & inspection process. On installation day, Steve, Sharon, Kyle and Mario arrived on time and spent the entire day working. We then had to wait for WSSC to inspect the work before Steve could perform the gas hookup. Once the inspection was completed, Steve & Sharon returned to hook up the gas and finish the installation. They even added additional embers to make the fireplace look more spectacular! Note: On installation day, there was one deviation from the original plan, which made it necessary to have an additional regulator installed on our gas meter (this is called a split meter). Steve made it very clear that he wouldn't charge us more for this change, but we did need to be home for the hour required for the gas company's contractor to do the work and re-light/test our gas appliances. Steve is quite personable, knowledgeable and professional. He and his people were a pleasure to work with - from start to finish. They always arrived on time, or called to let us know they'd be delayed. We definitely intend to use them for the recommended annual service for our beautiful new fireplace, and we would certainly use them for future projects such as a fireplace pit or a natural gas line to our grill:-).

I contacted the company based on all the positive comments on Angie's List. Very disappointed. Called the company on 7/10/2013, 7/19/2013 and 7/20/2013. Each time left a voice message. Never heard back from him. Don't know how good he is. Will update if he calls, though it's unlikely this will happen. _______________ Update: Shelly called me that night after I posted my review on Angie's List and said they did not provide service in my area.

The service provider showed up on time. Chris was extremely polite and courteous. He stayed to make sure the fireplace worked after he cleaned it.

The job went very well. They showed up early like I asked so I could go to work after the job was done. Quickly assessed the issued, repaired it and tested it to make sure it was no longer an issue.

He checked the gas lines and listed what could be done to make it work properly, giving me fair prices right away. Once the glass stones and parts ordered arrived, Steve and crew came and were at my home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., creating a pit with a large, appropriate gas ring and re-tooling and replacing rusted parts. The result is a GORGEOUS fire pit that reflects the colors of my pool. The flames easily light and they can be made HUGE. I am so very pleased. Steve couldn't have been nicer or have had a better work ethic!

Steve the Fireplace Guy was especially responsive and was able to diagnose the problem quickly. Most noteworthy was that "Steve the Fireplace Guy" first tried to help us correct the problem on our own over the phone in order to save us a house call. When we were unable fix it on our own, a time for the house call was set up with a narrow window of time. The expert showed up within the time window. He not only was able to pinpoint the problem but gave us tips on how to prevent it from happening again.

Sharon thoroughly cleaned our entire fireplace, including the gas logs, area around and under the logs, metal fireplace screen and glass enclosure doors. She was meticulous about her work, even laying down a tarp to keep our carpet clean, and left the area immaculate. Our fireplace had not had such a cleaning in many years--and it really looks great now. Sharon also explained maintenance procedures that I could do, like how to remove the fireplace glass doors for cleaning. I initially thought we may have to replace our vented gas logs, but now after Sharon's efforts and professional advice, we plan on enjoying them for many years to come.

From the initial meeting and forward, Steve and his team did an excellent job. I was not convinced as to which log system I would go with, but Steve explained the units to me and ultimately let me make the decision I would be most happy with. I had already received an estimate from another company who was going to charge me double the price. When I researched the log set that had been recommended, I found that I could get it directly from the manufacturer for about 40% less. The company was unwilling to come down in price at all which is why I came to Angies list to find some other contractors. Steve was very fair on his pricing, giving me his Angie's list discount as well as the discount off the MSRP of the unit and all the accessories. Once I had established which log set I wanted (after many conversations with Steve regarding pricing and options) I paid my deposit to Steve. Within a week, they were calling me to set up my install day. Steve and his team (Sharon and Kyle) were very flexible in the timing of his appointments and in scheduling his free estimates. This was an excellant option for me as I work in VA and live in MD. When they showed up to run my gas line they took great pride in their work and respected my time as well. There was an issue with the new gas line in a small, tight area of my garage that needed to redone. Steve was offering to come back during the weekend in order to redo that piece as to not impact my plans that day. I told them that I could spare some more time and that is was more important to me that it was done. He even suprised me by spray painting all of rusted gas pipes on the outside of the house to match my home's siding. A few days after the install the gas inspector game to inspect the work. He was very impressed with the work that Steve and his team had done which left me with a good feeling that I had hired the right person to do the work. Once the inspection was completed, Steve and Sharon came the next evening to hook up the logs and fire up my new system. I had noticed quickly that Steve was extremely meticulous. He made sure that my new fireplace doors were lined up perfectly and centered. Once they were installed, he quickly realized that the fireplace box sat lower than the mantel and that the logs and glowing embers would be partially obstructed by the bottom of the fireplace doors. He ran out and grabbed some pavers to give the burner a boost. At that time he determined that due to this, there were not enough lava rocks to make him happy. He ran back out to his truck and grabbed extra rocks....he was that determined to make this look awesome. After arranging all of the logs and glowing embers it looked fantastic...just like a work of art. Steve will be back to service my logs next winter and my mother will be using his services as well. Him and his team are great.

Could not have gone better. He was there whenever he promised to be, on time, and prepared to work. Steve has an excellent attitude and work ethic, and is a very good at what he does. I could not recommend him more highly.

I was quite happy with the service. He came and he made appointment at the same day and he came very quickly in a day or two after that. He responded quickly to my phone call. He explained everything what was wrong and what he was going to do about it. His price was around what I saw from other providers.

The customer service over the phone was fine. We called and they called back and they came out. They were fairly quick. The quality of the work is good because it worked. He was here on time.

He did everything he was supposed to do. I have had no worries about the work he provided. The price of service was reasonable.

He was very conscientious, spent a lot of time to make sure we knew what the different options were, gave us his opinion without being directive about it but he knew better than we did and we discovered this stuff with the fireplace, he coordinated with both estimates that we've got, to really talk to them and try to undertand what they were saying and then translated it for us when some of the terms or things that we didn't know. I had a great experience with him.

The technician arrived within the window, cleaned out my fireplace and installed a remote.

Arrived on time. Fixed the problem with the remote. Cleaned and tuned up the system. Cleaned up aafter themselves. Over all a positive experience.

We were having problems with our gas fireplace that appeared to be caused by a bird's nest in the intake flue. We actually spoke to two other companies. The first gave us an estimate that was over $2000 and the second came out and charged $150, said it was fixed but in fact didn't do anything. I was a little frustrated by the time I spoke to this company but they came out, did a full evaluation, and determined that they would need to do some work in the chimney. We did have some scheduling delays (mostly weather related - the first time they showed up to try to work on the roof, the wind was blowing so hard it blew the ladder off the house) but when they did get the work done, the guys did a great job. They were quick, they explained/showed me what they were doing before doing it, everything was cleaned up very well after they finished, and the fireplace worked great after that. The price was about half what the earlier company had said it would cost to do the same work. Sadly, I wish we had done this years earlier. We rarely used the fireplace because it didn't work very well. This fix was done at the request of the new buyers of our house and after this work, the fireplace worked better than it ever had while we lived there. I would definitely recommend Steve the Fireplace Guy for any work on your chimney or gas fireplace.

Our gas logs were installed by a company in SIlver Spring, long since out of business. We called another company, who said a service call would be $250 regardless of what needed to be done. instead, we called Steve the Fireplace Guy. Kyle was our technician. He was on time, polite, efficient, cleaned the glass fireplace surround, replaced the batteries, replaced the rocks, all for less than the $250 the other guy quoted. He also checked a small gas heater in another room for a small charge. Highly recommend.

Tremendous. They were on time, communicated well, were competent, and enabled me to pay with installments.

They were very responsive and prompt in setting up the appointment and were even able to come the same day. Steve and all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The technician Kyle was knowledgeable and efficient, and did an excellent job inspecting and servicing my gas fireplace. He quickly identified the issue(s), explained everything he did, and even explained the safety features of the unit, which reassured me. Price was very fair for the prompt service I received and I am delighted with my beautiful "good as new" fireplace. Would certainly recommend this company.

This company was called to check the work and charges of another company that had provided service on the fireplace a few days earlier. Their charges were significantly highly, nearly double what we paid to "Steve the Fireplace Guy." Steve's technician, Sharon, was excellent. She not only fixed our problem but also came back 2 days later to center the grate and logs and add some chips. Overall, Sharons' attention to detail and the quality of her work was exceptional.

Our gas firepace (non-wood burning) was broken from the time we moved in and we were not sure the source of the problem. Steve was prompt in his response and timing of his visit to investigate the issue. During the visit he identified the problem and then fully serviced the fireplace, he even cleaned all of the glass.
