We got quotes from 3 roofers/gutter companies after having problems during Hurricane Irene. All 3 companies reached the same diagnosis of the problems, but each had a different approach for addressing it and different pricing. Our problem was caused by the way the gutters were originally installed by our builder. Fichtner Services was not the lowest priced option, but we thought their approach would give us the best long term fix. They quoted to replace all of our gutters and downspouts including a modification to the way the gutters on our dormer discharged onto the roof. The crew that performed the was professional. They appear to have done a good job and cleaned up pretty well after the work was completed (We found a few small screws and pieces of scrap in the grass). My main complaints were regarding the scheduling of the work and some of the follow-up after the work was complete. They were extremely busy following the hurricane and it took more than 4 weeks to get a crew out to do the work. I would not have selected them as the vendor if the sales consultant had been more upfront on their schedule backlog. Schedule was very important to us because we were attempting to refinance our house and needed the repairs made in order to meet our closing date. My second complaint was regarding follow-up. I needed photos of the completed roof repair to send to the home appraiser for my refinance. We spoke to the crew who was performing the work and they stated they would take the pictures and have them emailed to us. I called the office looking for the photos the week after the job and was told they would get them to me. They called my back to say they did not have them and they would send someone out to take the photos. No one ever came out and I never got the photos. I ended up climbing up onto the roof and taking the pictures myself. All in all, not a terrible experience, but not great either. We assume the repairs and new gutters will solve our problems, but we won't be sure until we experience very high rain fall rates again.

Our 15 yr old flat roof over a shed dormer addition had been leaking ever since it was installed and several attempts to find leak had failed.After the hurricane the leak got worse so I called Fichtner after searching Angie's List for a roofing company.They were very responsive, came out quickly, explained what the problem was. Improper installment and incorrect seals around vent pipes was causing leaks. Rather than repairs we opted for a new roof. It was scheduled and installed at the time agreed upon. They called to let us know when they would be here, arrived on time, cleaned up, explained what they did, showed us pictures of the new roof. I couldn't be happier. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends/family.Thanks, Fichtner for a job well done!

Rep came out , measured gutters, and talked to me about what I wanted. He briefly told me about other options, but there was no pressure to buy anything additional, like gutter covers, which I do not need. He gave me an estimate. I called in a change, the additional downspout, talking to the owner. He made sure he understood exactly what I wanted, and he told me the additional charge ($40.) He told me how to amend the proposal agreement, which I then scanned (it required a signature) and sent to the company as an email attachment, one of the many response options. That was very convenient. A day or two later, I called the office to arrange a work date. They told me that I did not have to be present, a real blessing. They came out on schedule, completed the work, and I have nice new gutters. The materials are higher quality than the old gutters, and I am very pleased. The office staff is very easy to work with; I had some questions and arrangements to make as things progressed. I have asked them about another job. They have my highest recommendation.

We had a couple of natural disasters hit us in September. The branch of a very old, very large tree fell and destroyed the ridge beam on the roof of our 1920s-era bungalow and left a sizable hole. Shortly after the earthquake toppled our chimney. Fichtner came out and reviewed our damage and provided a prompt next-day estimate. It was in line with other estimates, but we went with them because of their high rating on Angie's List. The chimney was up first since that had to be rebuilt before the got to the roof work. Fichtner subcontracted that work to a mason they use. The subcontractor did a nice job, but didn't re-point the bricks below the roof line like we agreed. I called Fichtner to ask about it and the mason was back out the next day and completed the job. It was well done.Next up was fixing the hole in the roof, sistering the ridge beam, re-shingling the roof and we threw in a gutter replacement for good measure. They came in the few days after the chimney repair because of bad weather. They got there shortly after 7:30 AM and started work. By 8 p.m. they were finished with the entire job. It looks great. We had architectural shingles added and they really improved the look of the roof and they will last longer. We were happy with the work and the fact that they worked clean. There were no nails lying around, no extraneous debris and the driveway was even swept. The crew was very polite to my wife who was there throughout. It was a very good overall experience and I recommend Fichtner highly. They came in on budget, and did quality work. I was surprised -- but very please -- that they could get it all done in a day.

We got an estimate for repair to our roof and due to the heavy workload becuase of the hurricane our work was completed several weeks later. It was not an urgent repair job on our roof so the time was not of importance. The work was completed by a competent individual. We were most impressed with the customer service department who called to make sure we were satisfied with the job.

I want to give the company a good rating for coming through and completing the job. All issues was handled in a professional manner. The company is definitely recommended to do all work as promised.

I called to have an estimate done on my roof. Set up an appt for early Oct. The gentleman that I spoke to informed me that they were back up on work, but he could come and give an estimate. Then he called right back and told me that the starting price is $450, told him no problem. Now it is the end of Oct and no show and no phone call.

I was very happy with their responsiveness and quality of their work.

Had tree branches punch 2 holes (one hole approximately 4 inches, the other 2 inches diameter) in the roof of our attached garage during Hurricane Irene. Damage occurred on Saturday night during storm. Called Fichtner on Sunday afternoon, left a message and received a call back that same day from Tom. Scheduled an estimate with them for Monday morning between 9-11. Repair rep arrived about 9:30, performed an assessment of the damage, and gave us an estimate. We accepted the estimate that evening and scheduled the repairs for Tuesday morning. Repair crew arrived at 8 am and completed repairs by 11 am. Replaced one damaged plywood section with new plywood. Other hole was too close to house to remove damaged plywood without having to removing siding from the main house due to the design of the attached garage. Crew patched this hole instead. Placed new water barrier over both sections and put new shingles, perfect match to old shingles. Crew then checked and cleaned the rest of roof and cleaned up their materials and left. Received bill in the mail after services were complete. Was pleased with the promptness and communication from all parts of the Fichtner team, from scheduling the estimate through the completion. Was happy to have work completed promptly given the excessive amount of rain that came the week after the storm. Even thought it was a small job work was completed ASAP. Only complaint is minor, would have preferred a more detailed invoice of materials to be used given that the crew brought 2 sheets of plywood but only used one due to the construction of the house. Invoice wasn't clear on whether or not I was paying for 2 sheets of plywood. However, the price was fair and well worth it given how quickly they responded to our initial call.

I used Angie’s list for the first time a week ago because I was frustrated with companies not delivering on their work and wanted to hear from actual customers. So, I called Fichtner Services after reading all of their wonderful reviews because the tropical storm caused water to drip/stream into my home. When I described that water was leaking around the furnace pipes, I was told that the maintenance plan would probably be best for me since it didn’t sound like major damage. The maintenance plan included sealing leaks in the roof, replacing a few shingles, cleaning gutters, securing the downspouts to the house, and replacing the flashing or other materials around my leaking pipes – all for a great price. I wanted to take advantage of those services and the only thing left to do was to schedule service. Of course with all of the damage done by the past few storms, I expected to wait a while. However, they called me back because they would be in my area much sooner and came out! I was so ecstatic. Thank you so much Fichtner Services for doing awesome, honest work at a great price! I will call you again in the future if I need any roofing work.

The roof on my home started to leak during Hurricane Irene, so I phoned Fichtners to get an estimate on repairing it. The salesman (Mike Bafford) arrived at my house on time for our scheduled appointment and went to work inspecting the area on the roof where the leak occurred. When he came down off my roof he said to me “I have good news for you”. He said that my roof was fine and did not need any repair work at this time. He said that all the shingles were in place. He suspected that the high winds of Hurricane Irene may have temporarily lifted the shingles and allowed water to seep in that way. He said that what happened was most likely a one-time occurrence. I am a middle-aged lady and I know nothing about roofing and I am not too likely to climb up there and look around for myself. So Mike could have easily sold me costly repairs that I did not need, but he was honest and did no such thing. What a pleasure to do business with such an honest company and an honest salesman. I would highly recommend them.

In every case, Fichtner has done exemplary work for us, from roofing and skylight installation to trim carpentry, to building a porch where there was none. Each time, we are surprised at how great their work is. Of course, they show up when they promise to, stick to the estimated cost, and clean up very meticulously when they're finished. I think of these kinds of actions as required and necessary--certainly I would not be a repeat customer if they didn't do these things. But the actual work--especially the carpentry--has exceeded our expectations each time. We do discuss ahead of time what we are asking them to do, but the finished product always looks amazing, even better than we had envisioned. They really know what they're doing, they are very nice to have around, and we're thrilled with the work they perform--and the costs are well worth the results. You can't go wrong with Fichtner.

The way they did things and the way the people interacted with one another makes me want to recommend them. I thought the communication was unique, and I was amazed at how smoothly things went. They were certainly good people. If I had every contractor who came through this place act like them, I would contract everything. I was able to speak with the owner, and I was amazed at his lack of bravado, and I was impressed with how he was able to make everything work.

Already had shingles and all materials for the job on job site. Workers arrived on time. Busted there butts and left at 4:30. Clean up was excellent. I am in the home renovation industry and have had lots of experience with roofing jobs. These guys are top notch. Large crew lead by crew leader made my job non existent and freed me up to attend to other jobs .

Nolan Redd from Fichtner came out to look at the problem, told us what he thought they could do, took some pictures and then said he'd have to discuss with his foreman to see if they wanted the job. He called back the next day with the estimate which was significantly lower than another vendor. The only issue was that we'd have to wait two weeks before they could start. Their people showed up on time, worked quickly and professionally and cleaned up after they were done. The work looks good, the calking appears to be tight and my windows now have the correct slope on the sills to prevent water from laying there.

Fichtner was one of several companies we contacted and ask for estimates to do the job. They were very responsive, the most professional and the fairest price. They arrived on time, did the work and cleaned up. We plan to use them for some additional work.

Very nice company to work with - from estimator to men who completed the job. Very professional, competent, and pleasant. The workers explained what they had done, showed me the roofing materials that needed replacement, cleaned up very well. Overall, pleased with this experience. Waiting for more rain to know it worked! Would not hesitate to call them back or refer to others.,

I took the day off so I could be present for the inspection and repair - and to point out some areas of concern. Half an hour after my appointment window I called to find where the roofers were. Bonny in customer service couldn't find a record of my appointment at first but said she'd figure it out and call me back. About 10 minutes later Bonny called back to say she found my appointment papers and she'd also found out the truck had broken down and wouldn't be making any service calls that day. I was disappointed but nothing to be done but reschedule. Bonny put me on the schedule for the following week in the evening. I would have appreciated a call earlier saying there was a problem. The roofers came out as scheduled the following week to perform the inspection. There was some miscommunication as I expected they would also perform the shingle replacements during that visit. Instead they performed the inspection and I asked if it would make more sense to do the re-caulking, etc when they had the shingles. As it was late in the day the roofers agreed. Megan called to let me know when they would be back out. She said it wouldn't be necessary to be present since the inspection had been performed and I'd pointed out the areas I was worried about. Two more visits and the work was completed to my satisfaction. A third appointment would not have been necessary had I been able to be present for the second appointment (when shingle repair actually took place). Also lot of our conversations took place via voice-mail as I had some difficulty calling before working hours were over. Megan was great and very responsive to all my calls. Not my smoothest experience but I would still use them again for future roofing needs.

We called Fichtner Services for an estimate to repair our 15 year old roof, fully expecting to be told that the entire roof would need to be replaced. They made an appointment for Scott G. to come out and give us an estimate. He arrived on time and took a look at the problem, telling us that it looked like the plywood had a nail that popped up and allowed the plywood to raise. He gave us an estimate of $450 (much lower than we expected) plus the cost of any plywood that needed to be replaced. He took the time to answer all of our questions and explain the entire procedure before he left our house. After receiving two more estimates (both much higher) we called Fichtner Services back to schedule the work. They set up the appointment and the workmen arrived on the scheduled date. The took care of the repairs that were needed and even replaced a collar on a vent pipe that had worn out, at no extra charge. They were very polite and professional and when the repairs were completed they made sure that we didn't have any questions before they left (with the yard just as clean as when they arrived). We were very pleased with the service and will be sure to call them again if we have any roofing problems.

The workmen were courteous and hardworking and left the property clean at the end of the job. The people in the office were very easy to communicate with and responsive to my needs. Scott, the salesman, was also straightforward and easy to communicate with. My only complaint is that he gave me a quote before (I think) consulting with the roofer who was actually going to do the work. As it turned out, the required repair was more extensive than Scott had anticipated and cost me considerably more than we had initially contracted for. By way of compensation, Scott gave me a higher quality shingle at no additional charge, which I appreciated, but it was an all around bummer not to have had accurate info at the outset. That said, overall I was very pleased and would certainly not hesitate to recommend them to a friend. The dormers looked terrific after the repair! The improved appearance really gave my house a facelift.

Excellent job! Initially it took a couple extra days to get the estimate due to asking for gutter replacement at the peak of repair season(spring). Fichtner is incredibly busy for a reason, they do good work! The estimate was great and the date was set and the gutters were replaced on the scheduled day. They matched the house perfectly in color and the work done was A+. The installers cleaned up as if nobody had ever been there. Great job and I highly recommend them.

Overall experience was great. After a recent storm, there was damage to the roof of the towhouse. After reading reviews on Angie's list, I decided to call Fichtners Services for a quote. They were able to come out the next day. Not having any roofing knowledge and not knowing "right" questions to ask, Mike was extermely patient and helpful. There was no sales pressure to make a decison. I decided to go with Fichtners Services based on their customer service and price. They were able to work me into the schedule for the following week. A 6-man crew showed up promplty on the scheduled day. I was a little hesitatant to not stay at home during the work, but my schedule did not allow me to stay home. When I came home , there was a pleasant surpise of the new roof. Besides the beautiful new roof, there was no evidence that I had scheduled contractors for work - no signs of the old roof and all trash removed. I couldn't have asked for more. A couple of days later I received a call from Meghan for follow-up. She wanted to confirm work was complete to satisifaction prior to final billing. This was an easy, pleasant experience from start to finish. I would not hesitate to use or recommend Fichtner Services in the future.

Simply one of the best companies in the area. Prompt, highly competitive prices, but most importantly a commitment to quality and customer service. Company owner Tom Fichtner personally stopped by to check on an issue during one of the nights that his crews were on site. John, Nolan, and Shawn were just top-notch in their estimates, on-site work, and follow through. The time that they spent on site demonstrated their professionalism and attention to detail. I am a repeat customer and would highly recommend them to anyone seeking to have major home improvements accomplished.

A storm with severe winds caused roof damage while we were out of town. On our returned we called Fichtner Services to request their service in repairing the roof. They promised to come out the very next day and repair the damage. They came and completed the job as promised. They were very professional and did quality work. They noted and fixed other issues they found that were due to the age of the seal around roof perforations. The work site was left completely clean. The price was very reasonable given the time and attention to detail. They followed up with us to ensure that we were satisfied with their work. We would not hesitate to recommend Fichtner Services!

I had several shingles come off during a storm. Fichtner Services offers a "roof service" for $450. They come out and do any repairs that your roof needs, up to two squares of shingles. They're also supposed to check the gutters (which I didn't really need). I talked to Megan on the phone. She explained the service and scheduled it promptly. The crew was early and got right to work. The work looks good from the ground. $450 seems like a bit much for an hour's work (2 men). But I'm not complaining since I knew the cost up front and agreed to it and if there had been more damage, the cost would have remained the same. I'd hire them again without hesitation.
