Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is a reliable and professional Gaithersburg plumbing company that delivers prompt and professional results on each and every project. We are pleased to provide comprehensive evaluation and review of your current system in order to provide the best and most efficient recommendations for repair, replacement, or new installation.
Family owned & operated.
The $ 119 included a outdoor hose faucet replacement that did not happen. This would have involved cutting drywall to get to the faucet from the inside. So the 119 was for an inspection. Thorough but do not think it was worth 119 dollars. The offer said Benjamin Plumbing will visit your home and replace your outdoor hose faucet with a brand ne one. Should qualify that only if they can get to the pipe from the inside.

Advertised outside faucet repair was a great deal. Saved at least $50 House inspection was educational. Pointed out things that should be done and pointed out which ones I could do myself and a few that would be better done by them. Also pointed out things we should watch for and some maintenance issues. No hard sale.

I called Ben Franklin to get someone to repair my disposal. I told the dispatcher that it had just stopped working for no apparent reason. The dispatcher was friendly - I think it might have been a centralized dispatcher - and asked the usual questions (did you use the wrench to unjam it? did you push the reset button?, etc.). I said yes to both and said that I wasn't sure if it was an electical problem or a disposal problem, and asked if their repair person could fix just plumbing or possibly both. This is where things got off-track, as the dispatcher said that they would send a senior technician that could handle either issue. The technicial arrived as promised, diaganosed it as an electrical problem, and said we'd have to call an electrician. He said they didn't have senior technicians like that, they were just plumbers. I was not at home at the time. The technician said the bill was $50 and asked for payment at that time. The person at home thought they had no alternative and paid. The next day, I called back to say, hey, I thought you said the guy would handle either problem. This time I think I got the Mt. Airy office. They said, no, they were just plumbers, called the central dispatcher, and said that they would look into refunding my payment and would call me back in a day or 2. After 3 weeks, it appears I'm out $50 and will not get the call back. The message is, if you know what the problem is and it's a definite plumbing issue, you might give them a shot if nobody else is available. However, beware what promises are made and you will need to pursue any follow-up several times, because they didn't feel the need to close the loop on my situation.
Description of Work: Attempted disposal repair, however they left with the problem still unfixed and yet received their $50 fee.

I called Ben Franklin Plumber primarily to replace the hot water heater in my basement which was beginning to leak. They did a very nice job with the hot water heater but I felt that the initial price that they quoted me was much higher than what everyone else was quoting. I was able to negotiate the price down to approximately the same price that other contractors were quoting. But I wish that they had started out with a more realistic quote. The same thing happened when I requested them to give me a quote for changing all the disposable parts in the four toilets in the house. The initial price quoted was way higher than the final price. I will certainly consider using Ben Franklin Plumbers again because the quality of their work was high, but I'll be very careful to obtain additional quotes for the work so that I can negotiate a realistic price with them. If they had given me a realistic price from the beginning, I would have given them an A rating without hesitation.

The provider was very punctual. He changed the outdoor water spigot successfully and quickly. My only problem with him was when I asked him to look at the toilets, because one of them had been running sometimes. He recommended replacing the toilet, which I think would be unnecessary for a small problem like that.

Installer arrived on time, worked for a little over an hour. But I ended up with a far larger bill than I had anticipated. My own fault for not questioning the very earnest and convincing installer. I bet he'll get a nice bonus for his extra sales to an old lady
Description of Work: Installed new outdoor faucet as per advertised Angie's List. BUT... installer clearly out to sell add-ons. Installer told me I really needed new "anti-freeze side hose bib" instead of one advertised, additional cost $166. Then said I needed new shut-off valve, cost $198. I am clearly at fault for not questioning the necessity of these add- ons, but I am not a qualified plumber and I guess I am more gullible than most.

My service went well. The plumber was friendly, but WOW are there prices expensive! I am not a plumber, but everything they offer costs a lot. I was interested in a Frost Free Hose Bib, and he quoted me an extra $350. No thanks. To be honest, these brass hose valves are around $30 at the big box stores, I don't know why someone would pay $350. Either way he gave me a 2yr warranty on his work..... not impressed. I didn't even want the plumbing inspection so that he could tell me more about their prices. The new hose bib works perfectly.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing were okay. They did the work but they were really trying hard to sell me a bunch of stuff so I was little taken back by that. They're pretty responsive when it came to scheduling, I don't remember the exact date but it was probably within a couple of weeks after the purchase. They did a tune up on one toilet and it looks like they figured out what the issue was with that. For the other one, there was a leak and when the guy was here he couldn't detect the leak so he didn't do anything to it. After he left, I saw it leaked again so I didn't call him back but I still have that issue.

Excellent! Could not ask for a more professional and easy experience. Operator who scheduled the call was great and Chad, who did the installation was outstanding. This is my 2nd experience with the company and I am very pleased to say that I will use them again. I researched brands and capacity as well as seeing several different companies for an estimate. Chad was extremely informative and helpful during the estimation process and I was even able to contact him a few weeks later to ask more questions--- even though he is not a salesperson, but a technician. Ben Franklin was somewhat higher in their estimate than some companies, but having worked with Chad in the past, I was confident that I would receive trustworthy information about the installation and that the installation itself would be stellar and it was! The installation area was super clean when he left and the equipment was installed in a very neat configuration that fits well in my limited space. He explained how the heater was installed, showed me the shutoff mechanism and how any leaks would be routed. I am also happy that they did not nickel and dime me on the extras like the drip pan underneath and piping to the sump pump. Items that give me great piece of mind if there were any leaks in the future. The installed heater is working as promised and we have tons of hot water.
Description of Work: Installed new 80 Gal. Electric Water Heater (State is the brand) to replace a worn out Rheem-Ruud 60 gallon, Drip pan around unit, expansion tank and piped into sump pump. I chose not to buy an extended warranty.

First of all, if you are thinking about purchasing this deal, DO NOT DO IT. Secondly, if you are looking at Benjamin Franklin Plumbers to perform other work, FIND ANOTHER PLUMBER! Let me tell you about my negative experience: The plumber showed up to our house 5 minutes early (the only good thing about this company is that they were very punctual), but if you are trying to scam money out of people I guess it helps to be on time. He asked to see the hose bib we wanted replaced. It is right in front of the house next to the front door. Then the plumber asked to see in the basement because our house sits up about 3 feet out of the ground, so the pipes go straight into the cinder block foundation into our basement. There are not long runs of piping that need to be worked around, no siding on the house to worry about, so I feel like this is a pretty standard situation. At this point the plumber who came out to perform the work started acting shady and tried to swindle more money from me. First, he told me that there was going to be a $79 service fee right off the bat, as a charge just for him to come out and do the work. Right away, I said absolutely not. The "Deal" on Angie's List said the fee included the cost of the plumber coming out to our house, and I could show him if he wanted to see it. Then, he said, "Well, that deal for $133 goes all to Angie's List, and we don't get any of it. We just offer this deal for advertising, but we need to get money for the cost of driving out here... gas and stuff." So I said that I called them because of the deal so I guess they are getting the advertising they wanted - they can't ask for more money now. This fee was not stated in the deal, and did I need to call his supervisor? He said, "Well, I guess I can can waive the $79 service fee." Okay, well I was a little upset because of what I felt was false advertising (and clear stated intention of just trying to extort money from an unsuspecting customer), but I wanted this work done because we have gone over a year dragging the hose around the house from the back to water the front yard. However, immediately after this he told me he needed to access the pipe for the hose bib from inside the basement, so he was going to have to saw a 12"x12" square in the drywall (because our basement is finished). I said, "Yes, of course, I understand that was going to be necessary." Then he told me, "Well that is going to be an extra charge of $254, because extra work is required above and beyond what was in the price of the deal." I said, "Hold on, the deal clearly states that the fee includes parts AND labor. It says if there is additional work required beyond the scope of the deal, there may be an additional fee, but this seems pretty straight forward. Are you telling me that opening a wall to get to the pipes is NOT part of the 'scope of work'?" He said that no the labor included in the $133 only covers actually pulling of the old hose bib and attaching the new one. ANYTHING else costs extra. SERIOUSLY????? How can somebody advertise that they will do plumbing labor, but only for exposed pipes because accessing the pipes through drywall is really abnormal and totally beyond the normal scope of work? So then I asked that if I sawed the hole myself (it would take maybe 5 minutes), did that mean he wouldn't charge me the extra $254? He replied, "Exactly, you would avoid the $254 fee, but then I will have to charge you the $79 service fee." Clearly, this guy was not going to lift a finger unless we forked over extra money beyond what we had already paid! That is what I call a scam. At that point, I asked him to leave because I would be asking Angie's List for a refund. He gave us the number for his supervisor when we asked for it, and then left immediately. It turned out to be the person who schedules the house calls, not the supervisor, so I doubt we will ever hear back from them. This kind of behavior from service providers is intolerable, and Angie's List should crack down on companies employing such schemes to get "free advertising" and then make their money back by charging RIDICULOUS additional hidden fees that were never explicitly stated in the original agreement. I don't care how "good" this plumber might be, I will never use a company that encourages or allows this sort of blatant deception. It seems like THEY are the ones trying to get something for free, not the customers who purchase a deal from this website and expect the work to be fulfilled as promised in the agreement. I cannot state enough how awful this plumber was. Don't ever use them unless you have a few hundred extra dollars in the bank to cover all the hidden charges they will spring on you.

He did the inspection and the things he recommended were just household maintenance. The plumbing was in good shape and he gave me an estimate. That was the other thing I needed from him. But we chose to hold off on it. There is nothing major that was a problem, he gave us the report and it was just maintenance that we can do. Then I asked him to give me an estimate for another project which he did, but we are going to hold off on it, it is more thanwe wanted to spend right now. The guy was very nice, everything was done correctly the first time, everything was clean when he left. He was pretty knowledgeable himself but when he got called back for the second estimate which was to put in another meter he needed to check back with the office but, you know he got all the information he needed to deal with the estimate. They were a very nice group, I would use them again for sure, we needed the work done. We didn't have anything major done, but everything is working as planned. Their price was comparable because we had another plumber come in and give us an estimate and I think it was a comparable price. It was a price of how expensive it is to add an extra meter. For what we had done it was a good quality. They followed up and came rather quickly. He was very well trained, you know customer service as well as his technical skill.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was great, it was fantastic. They did not charge us any more than the $119 cost of the deal. I'll possibly use them again but we prefer to use local people and while this company had an address local to us, it was actually a national service. It was like a franchise of a national company. The guy that came to our house was punctual, professional, very helpful, very nice, and very kind but unfortunately if we were to call Benjamin Franklin Plumbing again, they might not send the same guy. We had no issues with their service whatsoever, we just liked that particular guy.

It went Perfectly!! I had paid another plumbing service close to 1000.00 to fix my water which periodically was brown with silt and rust. After multiple "fixes" being installed and paid for the brown water came back within days. Ben Franklin came, guaranteed they could fix it, and were true to their word! Not only that my service reps were awesome! They were professional and knowledgable and by the time we got it fixed I felt like they were old friends. I have awesome water now for over a month!
