Benjamin Franklin Plumbing

I believe this is the last time I will call Ben Franklin to do a checkup of my plumbing. Since purchasing my house 5 years ago, I've had them come out to install a water heater, put a sump pump bypass that allows the sump pump to work w/o power and for several annual drain the water heater maintenance deals. The key is that Ben Franklin Plumbing has a "club" which requires a $50/month payment for preferential treatment. We had experience with this at my mother's house and knew it to be a gimmick. This time around they let us know that we needed a new flapper in a toilet, an anode rode to be replaced on the water heater, the 5 gallon expansion tank on the water heater would have to be replaced - even though it is 4 years old and was installed by them, a valve on the sump pump system this company installed 3 years ago would have to be replaced, that the water pressure into the house was high and would need to be stepped down to reduce wear and tear on appliances (which they had not noticed the last few times they were here), a cartridge in the basement bathroom would need replacing and that the drain in the sink in the laundry room should be snaked for a total of $2,746. The discounted club price was $200 cheaper. My husband asked if the plumbers worked on commission and was told no. We thanked them for their report and called the plumbing company we normally use - RL Voight and Sons. They fixed the expansion tank (which did not need replacing), said the anode rod did not need replacing, and replaced the cartridge in the shower handle (which Ben Franklin had tried to fix a year or so ago w/o success) and the flapper. They did agree the pressure was high and said they'd give us a quote on having the repair done. The key here is the difference between a company (Ben Franklin) that is on call 24/7 and one that is open Monday through Friday and does not do emergency calls. In future, I'll call Voight for the annual maintenance.

They replaced the thermo-couple. All went well.

I don't often write reviews. My experience was so positive I am compelled to acknowledge. I called at 1pm on Sat 1/6 (I was out of town and my family was without heat). The operator was kind, thorough and very attentive. She could not get me in until the Sunday (it was 5 degrees outside and Im sure they were swamped) and assured me if they had any cancellations she would call. Excellent experience. Wish I remembered her name. Sunday, I got a call at 8am from Steven, he would be at my house in 20 mins, and he was. STEVEN, STEVEN, STEVEN...absolutely phenomenal. He was professional, took time to explain everything and was just a great young man to me and my family. The heat had begun to work that am, of course, which made it difficult to find the issue. He was patient and thorough. Steven never seem put out to try and find my issue and worked endlessly til he found at least one issue. I signed up for a service contract based on Steven. Steven called me the next day to check on our system. Steven is a huge asset to your company.

The plumber was professional and called me 45 minutes before he arrived. He did a through survey of all the faucets, toilets, exposed piping, and water heater for problems and leaks. I did have a problem with one of the toilets not flushing forcefully enough, and he was able to fix it. The plumber gave some suggestions on improving water efficiency and a potential water filtration system to deal with the hard water stains. He also did a water test. I learned a lot from the plumber and will use him/Ben Franklin Plumbing again.

We've had them several times and they are very good. There was no cost as it was under warranty. They are outstanding. They are a little on the high price, but it's quality and they guarantee it. And I trust them. I would most definitely use them again.

Horrible results. Soon after this was done, we started getting cloudy water which clogged up our RO system and caused trouble with rest of the plumbing. It was done on December 30, 2106. I am still waiting for someone to get back to me. Update: They took care of the issue and everything is working fine.

The Ben Franklin plumber took apart the faucets and found that they had only been partially fixed by a previous plumber. He replaced the cartridges and also new rubber rings and small springs that ensure that the spigots would stop water flow completely with no dripping. The plumber explained each step in the process and explained why the previous "repair" was not working.

Not well - the serviceman did not even inspect all the stipulated items - spent most time scaring me into new replacements - will not hire them ever.

They told me I would have to replace the whole system, but the price he gave me was very expensive. I did get it replaced, but not through them. They did come on time and they were professional.

The work was fine. The technician was very professional and he was able to get the work done quickly. I would recommend them to anyone.

This is just a ruse to push their $29 per month plumbing maintenance plan. The plumber showed up on time but spent 10 minute total looking at the toilets. Two of the toilets had minor leaks due to misalignment of flapper - he claimed the charge will be $250 each if he touched them. He did not do the hot water heater flush claiming our system is too old. He spent next 30 minutes trying to scare me into buying a new hot water heater and making sure I can read his mobile number. I am sure I will not hire this vendor EVER

My husband was thrilled with the service. His primary complaint was the water did not come out hot enough from the hot water option in the master bath. We'd just had it remodeled and when he asked the contractor who did the installation to do it, they didn't do anything. The Ben Franklin plumber fixed the issue, and took care of all the other small issues. We were satisfied.

The check up showed areas of improvement suggested do to the use of builder's grade hardware. The technician suggested a plan that cost $350.00 upfront, but labor is free for follow -up work. Also, the insurance significantly discounted parts. The insurance will allow an upgrade to plumbing fixtures, hot water heater servicing, kitchen sink repairs at minimal costs. Overall, the technician pointed out the obvious concerns (corrosion on the hot water heater plumbing) and cost effective improvements using the insurance.

The voucher stated "$35 Plumbing Service Call Plus $50 Credit Toward Repairs". The service was scheduled for last week. A gentleman from the company called me to say that he was on his way to my home and asked what service we were requesting. When I told him it was to unclog a toilet, he told me that the cost to do that was regularly $125.00. I suggested that we would then owe $75 for the balance of the service. When he got to my house he told my husband that the cost was $110.00. It was a very quick job so there should have been no excess of time to add to the cost. I had already paid $35 for the voucher so the total was $145.00. Today someone from Benjamin Franklin called me at work to tell me that he was calling to schedule the appointment. The service provided was fine but I think the voucher needs clarification and the company needs to be consistent in their service costs. I believe I could have called a local plumber and paid no more than $145 to have one toilet unclogged.

The job the went fine. Until the SP needed to collect payment. I was under the assumption that when I had purchased the big deal that the total cost of the service would be $149 which is what the big deal stated for the faucet installation. I was then charged an additional $219 for the services.

They came in time. They installed 4 toilets perfectly !
