I haven't had them out for a few years, but it made enough of an impression that I would have them out for any tree work. They were professional. They had low prices, and they really cleaned up well. The workers were fine. One of the workers got hurt, but that was the only complication.

We chose this company as we had seen their work at our neighbor's yard the previous week; in addition, other neighbors recommended them very highly. We asked for an estimate and were pleasantly surprised at the reasonableness of the amount, as the largest oak tree was dangerously close to the back of the house, leaning over the roof. Another large oak is within 3-4 feet of this one. In addition, the back is heavily landscaped and we were concerned about their being able to get their equipment close enough to do the job. The following Saturday the crew arrived promptly at 8:00 and set to work. By 11:00 all 4 trees were cut, the tree stumps were hauled away, and the sawdust had been blown off the walkways and brickwork. I was amazed at how quickly this job was completed. I'd like to add that my husband was very impressed with the estimator; he knew a lot about trees and could explain to him why certain ones needed to be removed. In addition, he supervised the work on Saturday to ensure that everything was done according to plan. We would definitely use this firm again and recommend them to anyone considering tree removal.
Description of Work: Appalachian Tree Service removed 4 oak trees from our back yard in early June. Three trees had trunks about 12 inches in diameter; the other tree was much larger (about 30 inches in diameter). The estimate included hauling away all the cut wood, cutting the trunks as close to the ground as possible, and cleanup after. We did not opt for stump grinding.

We spent probably around $1200 on that service. The main thing to me is that they are listed as arborists and they are not just people that come and hack away our tees. They are under some guidance of somebody who really knows trees and what we can and cannot cut. We don’t want them ti just take the tree down, but want them to shaped or thinned and that is important. We think that they have been very responsive to us when we have needed and what they do for us has been good, so we use them.
Description of Work: We use Appalachian Tree Co Inc. for tree service and we have been using them for 5 or 6 years. The last time we used them was at least 6 or 8 months ago and they thinned out a lot of trees on the property and pruning the smaller brushes.

Someone showed up within 24 hours to provide and estimate. The work was scheduled for a Saturday but when I contacted the company mid week to confirm the appoitment they asked if they could come the next afternoon to do the work. The crew arrived mid afternoon and did a good job completing the work within a few hours and cleaning up all the debris. I would use the company again.
Description of Work: Contacted the company to trim 10 large trees and remove and grind the stump of one small fruit tree.

When I scheduled the service, I was very clear that this was an emergency as one of the trees was indicating that it was going to fall very soon and a wind storm was coming. Needless to say, they still had not shown up nor called me on the morning of the storm as they were contracted to do. When I called to check on when they were going to come I got blown off and told they don't keep any sort of tabs on their employees. Being blown off seems fitting as that very evening the tree was blown down causing significant damage that could have and should have been avoided. I would never recommend them for any service.

The estimator came out as scheduled. He called me when he was on the way. He discussed my request for tree trimming and made suggestions as we were looking at the tree. The suggestions probably added little to the cost and seemed like good ideas. He left a contract, which I was able to fax or scan and email as an attachment, saving another visit. Emailing worked perfectly. The estimator called to set a date. The first date had to be postponed due to weather. He called in plenty of time, and we chose the next day. I did not have to be present for the work. Having used this company before, I trust them, so I did not feel the need to stay home. They came and did exactly what we agreed. The tree not only meets my needs, but has a far better shape due to his suggestions. They cleaned up thoroughly. Overall, an excellent experience. The price seems reasonable; I did not get other estimates due to time constraints, previous experience with this company, and high listing on Angies List. I have been very satisfied with Appalachian Tree Co. and have recommended them to others.

We dealt with Pedro from start to finish, who came to our house to give us an estimate. We had a coupon for 20% off tree service (due to time of year) and his quote came out middle of the road among three separate quotes. However, we were able to negotiate with him to bring down the cost since we had a lot of work. They came on time, took out the right trees, took out enormous white pine and tulip poplar trees and hauled away all the wood. They also cleaned up very well. They did a fabulous job and I would hire them again. In addition, they ground up an old stump that had been in our front yard, and we had not even asked for that to be included. I was very happy with their service.. They accidentally cut my neighbor's cable while working but it was an accident due to the wire's location, and they dealt with this very courteously and professionally by calling us and trying to contact my neighbor immediately. I will recommend them to friends and neighbors.

It seems in the end, the contractor did not want to bother and do the work we had agreed on.
Description of Work: I contacted the company for my elderly parents as they needed a tree cut down in front of their town home. We worked with the company to confirm a date to give an estimate on cost of cutting the tree down. A proposal was sent which was accepted and a date given for the service. We then proceeded with the exhaustive task to gain permission from the HOA and our local city municipality. We obtained a tree removal permit form the city, all the necessary signs for the contractor to park in a spot close enough to the tree and were prepared to post signs early in the morning to warn neighbors of the tree removal. The contractor Pedro, from the Appalachia Tree Company, called the day before the work was to be down to cancel the appointment because of the rainy weather. The explanation was that yesterday's job had to be moved to tomorrow. When we inquired about our job moving to the next day or next week, we were told the job could now NOT be completed until the following month and the contractor had too much work to do.

They did what I asked them to do and I had no issues with them. I would have no problems using them again. They were prompt and did what they were supposed to do. I wasn't home when they did the estimate or the work. They didn't destroy anything. I have used them twice and their price was reasonable. They did the work that I wanted done. They were friendly people. The people that were priced under them were way under and they had bad reviews based on the BBB. They have lived up to their expectations to me and answered their phone when I called.

I requested an estimate on their website last weekend and received a call on Monday letting me know they would send someone over for an estimate the next day. The next day I got a call with the estimate; they said they'd be able to do the work in 4 days on a Saturday. I couldn't be at home while they would be working, and they didn't have a problem with that. Their work was obvious as I drove up my street. They had cut the branches 'way back, so it will be a while before they get long enough to reach the roof again. The low-hanging limb that I had to duck while mowing was cut away as were other limbs that were going to be potential problems as well. As I walked around my house inspecting their work, I was pleased to see how thoroughly they had cleared away the brush and how clean their cuts were. I highly recommend their services; they do a great job.

Their cleanup was good. I think the job went really well. It was kind of a tough job but they did have expertise of cutting down the trees. I had one complaint that they damaged one of my trees when a branch fell it scraped the bark off of one my trees so I hope it will be ok. It may have been unavoidable. Overall, I was happy with their work and I think that the price was good.

Great, but it took a couple follow ups. I had three very large trees that needed thinning. They did a great job on these. Three smaller trees seemed to not get the attention they required. When I followed up by phone, they were very willing to return to make it right. However, after round two (I wasn't home for either one), there was still one branch ridiculously low to the ground shouting "why wasn't I removed?" I called them back again, and they returned promptly to remove it. In the end, I was happy. There was another issue. Their equipment significantly scratched up my concrete. I was concerned that the marks would last, but they appear to have faded. They could have been avoided with a little care.

Company was quick to come out and provide initial estimate. Once estimate was provided(on Monday or Tuesday)we were told they could do the work the same week. Once we called back the rep came and signed the contract the next day. He again stated that we should be able to get the work done that week. It wasn't until the next week that we heard back from the rep to setup our service date. Then, on the day of the service, it was raining. We assumed that it would be hard for them to perform the service in the rain so we anticipated a call to reschedule. No call was made and they never came. Later in the day we called to check and they confirmed that they didn't come because of the weather. A call would have been nice. They did show up on time for the reschedule date(a Saturday). The workers did a decent job on the actual work. While not a big deal, they didn't leave the cut up trees for firewood like we had discussed with the sales rep. By the time I realized they weren't going to do that, I just decided to let it go. Just slightly annoying.

Appalachian tree did a wonderful job. They cut down both dead trees. The large one in the back was close to a fence and a neighbors yard. They were careful not to damage the fence and keep all debris out of my neighbors yard. They cleaned up the yard after they finished - with a rake and a blower! Our yard looks great! They came out right after I called, gave me an estimate, did the work a week later and stuck to that price.

Excellent! The estimate process is easy; I did not have to be home after describing the tree. Their estimate was 33% lower than competing companies. The tree was in a very difficult location to get to, and was surrounded by garden shrubs. They removed the tree without damaging the shrubs or a very nearby fence. They completed the job inside of a day; again, we did not have to be home. The cleanup was absolutely thorough. The company had to remove fencing to get to the tree. They did so and replaced it in better shape than they found it. The work was exactly as discussed. They were on time and on estimate. I have used this company three times over the last 10 years, and would use them again in a minute.

We had tree work done by this company three years ago and could not have been more pleased with the job. This time, however, there were several problems. First we had a no-show on the originally scheduled work day. Since I had not called to confirm, we let it go. We were re-scheduled for four days later and a three-man crew arrived in the morning. We could not watch all the work from the house since most of the work was performed out of window sight on the other side of our garage. At one point my husband checked on the progress and found that the workers had let half the double tee fall across our neighbor's driveway. Our neighbor's have the showpiece property of the neighborhood which they scrupulously maintain. Their nearly new driveway was cracked in two places. They also lost a holly tree and had damage to several other trees. In the process of dragging the tree off their property, the crew left a large amount of tree debris and muddy Bobcat tracks crisscrossing their driveway, none of which was cleaned up. At around three p.m. the crew disappeared without a word, leaving us to wonder when and if more clean-up would occur. Of course our neighbors were displeased to put it mildly. I called the foreman to complain about the damage next door and to get a date for stump grinding. (There was damage to our driveway and holly tree damage on our property as well but according to the contract we are responsible for that.) The foreman was very apologetic and offered to pay for the neighbor's driveway damage. Two days later he expertly ground the stumps and promised to come back Monday to cut wood remaining on our property into firewood-sized lengths as stated in our contract. That date passed more than a week ago. He has not returned.
Description of Work: Cut down four dead or near-dead trees which threatened either our house or our neighbor's property. One was an especially large double based poplar, actually two large trees from the same base, which the foreman counted as one tree. We also had taken down another large poplar, a tall scrawny spruce and a small maple whose roots were entwined with the double poplar. The trees were cut down, some wood and brush hauled away and four stumps ground a few days later.

A crew of 4 men came and did what they said they would within a period of 5.5 hours. They did a good job of removing the trees and grading the soil after they finished; additionally, they cleaned up all the branches. During the estimation phase, they provided recommendations regarding the health of all of the trees and their locations relative to the house; additionally, they were willing to lower their price to get the work and do what I requested.
Description of Work: Removed six trees (2 maples, 2 spruces, magnolia, & pear), ground stumps below ground level, removed stump grindings, filled holes with top soil, and removed wood from property. In removing the maples and pear, they climbed up in the trees and cut the tops out and dropped them to the ground with a rope.

The quality of work was excellent. They were very responsive to our needs. They did a great job cutting down trees, as well as clean up afterwards.
Description of Work: Appalachian Tree Co. was here today to cut down 8 tall slender trees. There were 4 men here from 2:30pm until 6:15pm. After cutting down the trees, they also ground-up the stumps. They were efficient and seem to have all the necessary equipments. The owner came later with a crane to pick up the big trunks to haul away. They raked up the leaves and cleaned up the debris, as much as they could on a very windy day. The pricing was good because they were having the 20% off winter sale. The heavy load of the trees and the hauling equipment did damage to our grass (wet from snow and rain), but they raked the area and smooth it down for spring re-growth. Good quality workmanship. We had a lot of electrical wiring around the areas of the trees (low-voltage lighting and invisible fence) and they unfortunately cut a wire. When it was discovered, the head person came out to search for the cut wire and fixed it immediately.

The work eventually got done, and the quality of work was satisfactory, but the timing and customer service drove me nuts! The contract for this relatively small bit of tree service was signed on February 2, and the work was not completed until March 8. They came in and cut down the trees, quickly and efficiently, a few days after the contract was signed, but it was torture trying to coordinate with them about the final step of grinding the stumps. The coordinator, "Jim," (his last name seems to be mystery even to members of his work teams) called me three times on three different days promising the work would get done that day or the next. He missed each time, and never informed me of any change. This was important, since we keep our yard closed with a locked gate. Once the work was done, he apologized for all the delays, saying that the winter weather made scheduling difficult. In my mind, this served as an excuse for one snowy week during the one-month period of delay.
Description of Work: Removes a cluster of cedar trees, about 15 feet in height, from our townhome back yard, and grind the stumps several inches deep to allow for subsequent replanting.
