The company was extremely responsive, and flexible with schedules. The cost for the job was very reasonable, considering that our tress had not been pruned for over ten years, and we had a large number of new, unwanted growths in our very steep front yard. They removed all debris, and our trees and yard looked great afterward!

We've been really happy with the work that they do and their pricing I would say is pretty unbeatable for the area. We highly recommend them because they've done really good work and I know that my husband had told me that he had gotten a few quotes from other companies and they were much flexible with the pricing. If you're doing a large job, they try to make it more affordable.
Description of Work: We used the services of Appalachian Tree a number of times for really large tree problems. We had a huge oak tree that was leaning over our home and our neighbor's property as well and they removed that and they removed two other smaller trees.

They provided an estimate and a date for the service and came to do the job when they would. The tree and debris was gone when I got home. They did leave a lot of wood chips in the hole where the tree was which I had to remove later but the hole was leveled and all the debris was removed. A window was broken which I did not discover until the next day but they sent someone out right away to measure and replace it, with no problems. They had a quite reasonable price and I will use them again for any tree problems.

Company was out the next day for an estimate after I contacted them. A price was agreed upon and a date set for the work to be done. The first date was a rainout. Another date was set and they showed up promptly at the agreed upon time. The work was completed without a hitch. They cleaned up all debris and sweep the driveway. I'm completely satisfied!

Arrived on time, completed all work in 2 consecutive days. Graded down for quality only because it was apparent their chipper malfunctioned several times during the course of the removal. However, it did not delay the removal or affect overall quality of work performed. Debris was cleared as promised.

They were very punctual, and I like them a lot. My neighbor and I been together, so they did hers and my yard. They came when they said they would, and they cleaned up. They were good! The only thing I could tell you was most of the men could not speak English, they only speak Spanish. It was not an issue, but it was a little hard to communicate with them.

We used Appalachian two years ago and were very pleased with the quality of the work and price. For that reason we opted to use Appalachian again. We worked with Jim on the estimate and clearly detailed the work we wanted done. When the work was underway, it was apparent that some of the details of the job were not communicated clearly to the crew. Near a large tree that was removed, Appalachian offered to clear bramble at the base of the tree. I agreed that the bramble was to be removed, but pointed out that an adjacent raspberry patch was not to be bush hogged. The crew instead bush hogged the patch and left the bramble (which still remains). Near another tree which was felled, several small berry bushes in cages and another landscape plant recently planted were destroyed. The crew left a number of rotted pieces for firewood, which were not cut to size. I had to clearly mark the wood which I did not want to keep and follow up on the request to have the pieces cut to size. I asked that a portion of the mulch be left for my use, but all the mulch was hauled away. Overall, this job required hand holding to get it done according to my specification and communication with the crew chief Carmelo was not satisfactory. Over all I was disappointed with the degree to which I had to stay on top of the job and the damage to some of our landscaping.
Description of Work: 8 trees cut down, stumps ground, some wood cut to firewood length, remainder hauled away.

I called the office clerk to schedule an appt. Did take a week or so to come out, although service personnel were prompt and professional. One recommendation would be to ask the company to explain the grinding of stump and roots, and remind customers that they cannot plant another tree there after this service. But other than this comment, they were the cheapest and most responsive in the area.

Overall, it went OK. They showed up about an hour late but the crew was professional, cordia, and efficient once they got going. Unfortunately, I did have to call them back to readdress grinding the stump down from the Bradford Pear Tree and that took an extra couple days to complete...but they got it done. As recently as Oct 31, 2012, I needed some more tree service to remove a tree in my back yard so I thought I'd give them another chance. They were scheduled to come out to my house on Saturday, November 3rd between 12 and 2 PM to provide a written estimate. 2 PM came and went with no one showing up or calling. It was after 5 PM when the guy called and said...and quot;Uuhh! I couldn't make it out there...Can we do it next Monday, between 7:30 and 8:00 AM and I promise I'll be there?and quot; I gave them 1 more chance. Monday, November 5th rolled around and by 8:15 AM I still hadn't seen or heard from anyone. I had things to do and I couldn't stick around waiting any more. I was on the road when I got a VM from the guy at 8:35-ish saying he was on his way to my house to do the estimate. I did not bother returning the message. While I was away, he came by, looked at the tree in question, and left a written estimate. I have no complaint about the laborers who performed the original service in 2010 that I described. But for the life of me, I do not understand how and quot;managementand quot; can conduct business like this and continue to stay in business. Maybe they don't really need our business. Needless to say, I won't be using them again.
Description of Work: Sometime in late summer/early fall of 2010 (that's an estimated date), they came out and pruned/trimmed 2 large oak trees, 1 maple tree, and 1 crab apple tree. They also removed 2 pine trees and 1 Bradford Pear Tree and ground down the stumps.

We had estimates from other companies that have done a lot of work in our area. Appalachian's prices were just over 1/2 the price of the leading local provider, and dramatically cheaper than any other estimates. Also, they came out right away to give us an estimate, while other providers took a long time just to show up for a bid. They had state of the art equipment, including a small tractor to carry all felled limbs and trees to their grinder. To my shock and pleasure, they did the entire job very quickly. The first day they worked from 9 am until 1 pm when their large truck was full of mulch from our trees. They came back the next morning and finished in two ours. They did this all with only two workers on day 1 and 3 workers on day 2. Highly professional. We couldn't have been more pleased. And thank goodness, we got this work done just before Hurricane Sandy blew through!
Description of Work: Our property is nearly 1 Acre. They removed 9 trees and numerous unwanted shrubs and trimmed back another 15 trees.

The tree was leaning dangerously over the corner of our house and driveway and had been dropping large branches. We decided to have it removed and remembered getting a postcard advertisment from Appalachian Tree Co. We called and Jim came out and inspected the tree and gave us an estimate plus the advertised discount. It took a month to get an appointment, but they showed up on time, did quick work, and did no damage whatsoever to the surrounding trees and lawn. It took an extra day to come back and remove the large cut trunk pieces, but Jim called and let us know what was going on. They left the area very clean.
Description of Work: We had a gigantic, towering old oak tree on our property line cut down and removed. It took a crane and heavy equipment to cut the trunk into sections and haul away.

They were able to come out soon after we called to give us an estimate and were able to schedule us for the work within a week. They arrived on time and began work immediately. They had to remove a section of fence to get the equipment in the back yard and they replaced it when they were done. They did an excellent job and added additional tree and stump removal to the job on site for a very reasonable charge. There was some minor damage to the gutter guards when branches fell into them, but they fixed the guards before they left. They went above and beyond to do an excellent job.

This company is fine for tree and large branch removal. They have done a good job in the past. I would not have them do any major trimming/shaping and pruning. They nearly damaged a tree trimming/shaping in the past. I thought the estimator today had a very unprofessional attitude.
Description of Work: This company removed a tree for us several years ago and did a good job. Today they came back to give an estimate to remove a broken limb from hurricane damage. He asked about our trees in front of the house which they had wanted to prune when they removed the tree a couple of years ago. The estimator was so offended when I said we had an arborist come trim our trees in the front his response was, well have your arborist come do this and he left.

I called Appalachian tree company for an estimate and the guy who came out was an hour late. He didnt call to tell me he was running late; I had to call the office to find out. I should have taken that as a sign and not gone ahead but their prices were so reasonable I went against my better judgement. It took many phone calls and mixups to get the work scheduled but finally it got scheduled. The day they were supposed to come out they never showed up or called. I finally tracked down the guy leading the job and he said they weren't coming because they were busy dealing with the aftermath of the storm. He said he just forgot to call. I understand the storm left people in emergency situations, but he should have called and given all of the incidents leading up to, it was inexcusable. Update- I ended up calling the company back because the storm made it impossible to get any new companies to come give me an estimate. I asked if someone other then the original guy could do the work. The receptionist (who is very nice) apologized and said she would send out someone else the next day between 10-12. By 12 I was still waiting so I called and she said that he wasn't coming and no one would be able to come out for several weeks. side note-I had mentioned above that there were a few phone call mixups- one of them was when I left a message saying I wanted to go ahead with the work and a gentlemen called me back and said he had never given me an estimate. I said I think my message must have ended up with the wrong person because the guy who came out had a different accent (the person on the phone had a latin accent). He snapped at me and quot;well don't You have an accent too!and quot; I said well of course I was just explaining that I could tell their voices apart and he wasn't the same guy. Apparently he reported back to the company that I had told him I only wanted to work with an English speaker and I wouldn't work with someone with his accent. This was completely untrue and unprofessional. I have never had an experience like this in my life.

Overall this company provides stellar service. They came and gave us an estimate and returned when they said they would to perform the work. The guys that did the work were very professional and stayed on task the entire time. A lunch break was the only time I saw them not working. I noticed they performed their jobs taking all the needed safety precautions when climbing trees and using the equipment. They cleaned up the area when the work was completed (raked the yard and cleaned up the driveway) A few times they did have some problems with the equipment which delayed them with the work. But, even with the problems they finished in a timely manner.

I sent them a picture through the internet about what was going on, and they came out that same day. They were able to get a crew out that day itself, to take it down, because it was a danger to the house. They did a very good job. They got caught because of the snow on the ground at the time, so they couldn't clean up as well as I had expected them to clean up. But when the snow cleared up, I called them, and they came back and got the rest of the debris. I thought they did a very good job considering the circumstances, especially when that tree was leaning on my tree they did a very good job of cleaning that stuff out too. I was very happy with them. Their price was excellent, I had someone else take down a tree a couple of years ago, and their price was expensive. I thought Appalachian was very reasonable.
Description of Work: I use Appalachian Tree Co, Inc. for my tree services. I last used their services in March 2011 to remove a tree that had fallen down due to the wind, and one of the trees in my next door neighbor's house was leaning against my tree because of the wind, and that had become a little dangerous too. We had about thirty to forty trees and some of them were ready to hit the house. I have used them several times, to remove some more dead trees from around the house. We are talking about some really large trees.

They were recommended by my next door neighbor. Called and set a date. Through no fault of theirs, there was a downpour the day of our appointment. We rescheduled and they showed up on-time and very early in the morning. By the time I called my Mom to check on their progress at 9:00 AM they were at least half done-all branches were off. This was a very large tree, not just tall. By the time I got home from work that day, the job was complete, including the topsoil and seed over ALL of my lawn. No debris, no trash, no mess. Outstanding!
Description of Work: Complete removal of 50+ foot tall tree, including removal of all debris, stump ground up and removed and topsoil and seed spread over bare area. They even did the rest of my (very small) lawn. Still, above and beyond. Recommend them to anyone!
