They were the only ones I could find that did the Aprilaire humidifier that was local. That was what I wanted. They were pretty thorough in coming out and they did an assessment to see the leaks in the window before they recommended the humidifier. I am not sure the humidifier ever worked right. I had them come back in the summer to look at it again because I felt like there was not enough moisture in the air. I still can't tell. They did come back out and serviced it so there was no problem with that. I just don/t feel like it was putting out as much moisture as when they installed it.
Description of Work: I used Minnicks to install a humidifier. They also did repairs to the air conditioning and heating.

They guys that showed up to do the audit seemed very knowlegable and spent most of the morning evaluating my whole HVAC system including the flow of air at each register, They confirmed my suspicions that the duct work was not configured correctly, gave me a few explanations and recommendations, and said they would put it all in a report and send it to me in about two weeks. I told them that was good because I wanted to get started fixing this problem right away. If you have read any of the other reviews you can guess what happened next. After numerous e-mails and phone calls, I finally got a report from them 9 weeks after the audit, after I asked for my money back. It was a very disappointing one page report with a lot of numbers with no written explanations or recommendations, which is why to I needed to take more time off of work to have someone explain it to me. The report gave each room it's own unique name such as the white room, but the comfort advisor did not know which room was which, so the individual air flow readings were not too educational and that was more than half the report. Although Minnick's started well, they really dropped the ball on the report and overall I felt taking people's money without giving them results in a reasonable time is not very professional. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: I was having trouble with the ducts in my heating system being too noisy with the sound of rushing air. I suspected that the company that installed my heat pump had not taken the size of the ducts into account when they sized the unit. I called Minnicks to do an HVAC audit hoping they could tell me what the problem was and what could be done about it.

The technician was fairly professional although he showed up an hour early which was not good. I had to send him away for an hour because we just were not prepared at that point. It was somewhat frustrating. We went through the house and I was able to see quite a bit of the audit and where the issues were. I was happy with how much time he spent and all the explanations he gave me. I think the price I paid through the BGE energy savers program was acceptable. The problems mainly began after the work had been done. I allowed the company a couple weeks to prepare the report and send it to me...I was very patient. After 3 weeks...I started to be concerned. When I asked for the report they told me I had to receive a call from an expert to explain the report to me. They would not release the report to me (even though I paid for the service) until the expert called. So, after numerous emails and a phone call...we finally sorted things out that the service representative would at least ask the expert named Randy if she could release the report to me. He was on vacation at the time and wondered if she should call him or not. Eventually, after a month (August 26, 2013) I received the report in the mail. It was just very annoying that someone would tell me I am not allowed to have the report, something that I paid for and waited for patiently for over 30 days (I was told the report would be ready within the week). I do not think they are a terrible company but I would choose a different company next time for energy audit and or work in that department.

I called Minnick's because they are the HVAC company that is located closest to my home, and had good ratings on Angie's List. I called and left a message with the answering service on Labor Day, and called them about 7:45 a.m. today, September 3. I explained that my AC was out, and that it needed to be fixed. The person who answered the phone was very professional, was able to schedule a technician to show up between 9-11 (she called later to tell me he was on his way and because I live so close, actually showed up at 8:45). The technician, Justin, was very professional and explained what he was looking out and what he found. I don't have my paperwork in front of me, so don't know the name of the part that was replaced, but it was done quickly. I am so pleased with how fast the response time was, and how quickly they fixed the problem.
Description of Work: They fixed my air conditioning--it went out Sunday night over Labor Day weekend.

It was really very irresponsible that left my family and my new born baby in cold waiting them tha they would come up with a solution.
Description of Work: I had a problem with my heating system and high electric bill. It hasn't been providing enough heating. I called Minnick 's Heating,Cooling, energy solution & insulation to get energy Auditing and expecting their help including fixing and/or recommendation. I Paid $100 and PEPCO subsidized the plan by $300. It is not only all about the money, It is about time and my two month baby. I was told that the final computer generated report with recommendation would be provided in a week. But they did not sent or email the report even in 2 week. I tried to reach but they did not respond on time. finally a month later after i changed the whole system, someone called and leave me a message to call back. I did call back and never got really help. I told the person who picked up the phone that & i need my report to be mail or email. Now it is over three month and I didn't get anything. I felt it was a useless service that me & PEPCO paid for it. These kind of irresponsible company should not be avoided. I do not recommended them at all.

Everything went excellent! They showed an area with a leak. They used state of the art blower test equipment, which can be critical to the quality. They will be following up with me shortly. They went above and beyond what was expected and required. He also put some insulation on my hot water heater, which was unexpected and very nice.

From the start to end all of the Minnicks staff were very professional and helpful, and displayed excellent customer service. I was able to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time. Their technician came on time, on the earlier part of the window, and was very professional. He completed a heat check on my system, looked at a problem that I had with my fan, and reported his findings of the check. He recommended changing some parts with suggested timelines, which sounded reasonable knowing the history of the house. He looked at the fan and said he wanted to check with his supervisor on some troubleshooting. He did check with his supervisor and got back to me later that day to reschedule another visit (for free) for them to look at my fan. The two of them again came on time, found and corrected the problem and noticed something missing from my filter area. They arranged to come again (at no extra charge) and bring the piece. Overall, I felt that they were very knowledgeable, provided very good service and follow up. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Minnicks came out for the autumn annual maintenance of my heating system.

The recommended repairs have cut down on my gas usage along with the noticeable improvement in the air flow throughout the house. I was very impressed with Randy and the tech that came out to troubleshoot the systems and make the necessary repairs. They were extremely concerned with keeping my house clean and did a very through job. They went to great lengths to ensure I understood all that they were doing and the reasons for each suggested repair element. I will definitely be using them again. To testify to the good work they perform, BGand E sent an auditor to review the repairs and improvements done for the energy audit. When I mentioned that Minnick's had performed all the work on the HVAC system, he commented that he has seen their work in other houses and was impressed by their work.
Description of Work: Minnicks came out to perform a tune-up on the gas furnace. The tune-up was a result of an whole house energy audit which found the furnace was not as efficient as it should be. Minnick's performed the check and made some necessary adjustments. They also inspected the flue and found that much of the poor efficiency was due to an improper flue exhaust cap and how it was installed. They also recommended replacing the flue vent in the house as the flue was up to spec's as it was single-wall pipe from the furnace to the ceiling. They also noticed improper return duct sizing at in the utility room and performed air flow measurement on the returns which indicated some additional efficiency in the duct system could be obtained by replacing about 3-4 feet of the return duct up just prior to the fan unit. In addition to that, they corrected some other issues with the air ducts and performed complete duct/air handler sealing in the utility room.

My 16 year old furnace was not working properly...going through some attempts to fire up, then locking out for a few hours, then trying again. It would eventually come on, but on really cold days the house would be very cold by the time it did. I called my previous HVAC company and of course it was working when they arrived, so they were stumped, and basically recommended I buy a new furnace. Then I called Minnicks. Jeremy arrived that afternoon and what a difference! He spent about an hour testing everything. Then her carefully and patiently explained what he was seeing. The possible fixes ranged from simple to complex and he was clear in stating that the simple ones might not work, but were worth trying. He began by adjusting the gas pressure. When that did not clear up the problem, he returned and fixed some obvious problems with the exhaust pipe. He said the next step would be replacing a $700 circuit board, but let's see. So far, so good. Having spent money on a new AC and a new roof in the last 10 months, I am very happy to just have this furnace work for another season, and Jeremy understood that and was more than willing to work with me. The office is also very professional, polite and responsive. They give accurate arrival windows and call when the service tech is on the way. And if all the techs are as good a Jeremy, you cannot ask for more. Always professional, polite, patient, he went out of his way to make sure he did not bring any dirt into the house and that his work area was cleaned up when he finished. I could not have asked for better service. Needless to say, when it comes time to actually replace my aging unit, I will be calling Minnicks.
Description of Work: Inspected all furnace systems. Performed combustion analysis. Repaired flue pipes.

Minnicks was very patient with us as we considered geothermal. When the Montgomery County HELP Load program was suspended before even being offered, we made the decision to install propane furnaces, which are cleaner burning and more efficient than oil. No doubt, this was a very large undertaking. Minnicks and their contractors (for ducts and weatherizing) were professional from start to finish. Work went as they explained it would. Thus far, units are working well.
Description of Work: We had to replace two oil furnaces. We also got all the ducts cleaned and sealed, and we got the whole house weatherized (based on blower door test results).

The installation went fine but as soon as we turned on the system in the spring, the system leaked. For two-and-a-half years we called, asking Minnicks to fix it, assuming that clearly they would, given it was under warranty. At first, they tried to blame the plumbing, but then we showed them that they clearly was not the cause of the water. Then, they would send someone practically each time, who had never seen the systerm or the leak, who would not know what they were looking at or for. Those technicians would begin by saying, "Did you check the plumbing?" We pateintly explained that we had and the leak only started when the air conditioner ran and stopped when it was off. We also showed them how the water came from inside the ducts. They then stopped returning calls for weeks on end. We had to rip out the dry wall in the ceiling of our master bedroom, creating a huge 2 foot by 3 foot hole, showing open duct work, so that the water could leak into buckets that we put on our desktop. Minnicks tried wrapping the ducts, which didn't work. They then tried to put in a larger hole for the air handler. That didn't work, but despite being told this was still leaking they would take months before doing anything about it. After 2.5 years, we had to threaten to sue and called Randy Minnicks, who finally called the manufacturer and within a week, had come up with the real fix which involved actual labor and re-configuring the system, which apparently had not been installed correctly. To this day, no one except the woman who schedules the service calls has ever apologized or accepted any responsibility for the problems or delays. If they had just tried to fix it and not kept walking away, we would not have complained. We were very patient at first but really lost patience in the end. After some work a week ago, we had to call to see if they would fix the ceiling, only to be told more work needs to be done, which, of course, we were not told. It's a constant game of chasing them and asking 20 questions to find out what is going on. It's been a never-ending hassle with no one in a management position taking ownership.
Description of Work: Installation of air handler on roof and re-configuration and installation of internal air/heating system, with two units in the house. Duct work was also done in order to balance the air flow.

I, Rob Minnick, have spoken to the member and told her that I would make sure this project was correct. Since, I have gone back and reconfigured the install, leaking problem has been resolved. Have scheduled a drywall/painter to return and patch all damaged areas. We are at the stage to schedule to return to finish the loose ends from the install the same time the drywall/painter will do his work as well.

Called the company one week (4/2/10) ago for an estimate to replace a 25 year old heating and cooling system. Initial call made on Friday morning. Person answering the phone said "Chris" would call me to schedule an appointment to come out to my home. While I was out on Monday, Christ did call and left message. I returned call on Tuesday morning and spoke to Chris. I was on the phone with him for approximately 3-4 minutes while it appeared he was looking for my contact information. He finally stated he had some work he had to finish and would call me back. I've received no call yet and that was 3 days ago. I would definitely rate the company a grade F in responsiveness, customer service and professionalism. I shudder to think what their work would be like if the first point-of-contact with the customer in the home is so horrendous.

It was a regular work day, but they charged me an emergency fee. They also charged me $10 for gas. Two men came, they put booties on and they were very professional. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty thermocouple, which seemed to be a pretty simple fix, but they charged me $175 to fix that. I called a parts store and they told me it would be roughly $36. I would only call them again if I didn't have a reasonable alternative.
