We got a new furnace and air conditioner installed by Hand C about 8 months ago. We woke up on a Saturday morning to a chilly house. Sometime during the night our heat had stopped working. I turned the system off at the thermostat and back on again and the heat came back on - for a while. Then it stopped again. I called and got the answering service and soon received a call back from Dave the technician. I described the problem and he was quite puzzled. He said he would be out as soon as he could and within a few hours he showed up. By then I'd reset the furnace 3 or 4 times and between it running intermittently and space heaters we had the house up to a normal temperature. The furnace was running when Dave got here, but looked at the the system for quite a while. Dave must have spent an hour with us but could not figure out our problem. He checked all kinds of things and tightened wires. Dave finally left us saying to check the furnace for an error code if it went out agin before I reset it and headed to his next customer. Here's the fantastic part!! On Monday (the furnace ran fine the rest of the weekend), Dave called ME! He said he'd been stewing all weekend about our problem and he wanted me to call his office and have them set up a time for him to come back out so he could see if he could figure out our problem. He said he was worried about our heat cutting out on us again since it's been so cold and we have two small children. I don't think I've ever seen someone so conscientious about their customers. I called the office and praised Dave to the people there. They did not seem surprised by his dedication to his customers. The office person agreed that they would rather figure the problem out now before it's another emergency call. So Dave is coming out again on Thursday. I don't know how long it will take, but I'm sure he'll cover every possible cause of our problem. Hand C's customer service has been wonderful. All these service calls (even the emergency one) are covered by our warranty. I'm glad I picked this company for our system replacement last year. I will certainly recommend them to my friends in the area.

Tendered free assessment and quote. Follow-up emails were not always answered, but with enough persistence, answered all questions and arranged install timely. Technicians were very punctual, worked diligently and installed the new furnace quickly on a very cold day. Install looks good and seems to function well. Much appreciated! Price was competitive with others in area. One big concern: I raised the issue of deteriorating ductwork immediately below the old furnace. The rusty ductwork was very difficult to reach from the crawl space; the best way to address it (replace it, or reinforce it) was when the old furnace was removed. Although I put both the manager and the techincians on notice about the issue several times, they didn't really ask about it when they had the furnace out, and installed the new one without fixing it. Thus, the new furnace was losing at least 30% of forced air directly into the crawl space after installation. I contacted the manager about the problem. He agreed to at least come out and inspect it; eventually, though, he just stopped responding to emails. I was pretty surprised at this unprofessional approach. In the end, I was able to do a halfway decent job of patching the ductwork from the crawl space. I was pretty disappointed, though.

We had a 3 zone HVAC system installed in 2012 (by another company) It never worked correctly. We called H and C and explained the issues to office staff. They called back and told us they didn't have technicians who were trained to work on our brand of equipment, but told us how to locate someone who would be qualified. We followed their advice and are in the process of getting heat- finally after over a year.

Excellent experience. This was my first experience with H and C and I will definitely call on them again. Tim did a thorough inspection and only replaced filters that needed to be changed. He advised me on an air cleaner upgrade kit I had asked him about and told me where to look it up online. He had everything I needed available on his truck. Tim was professional, honest, and courteous.

Thus happened in the evening and it was 90 outside. We had no AC. Technician came right out snd fixed the problem.

Technician was on time, friendly and efficient. He noted that I needed coolant refrigerant to air conditioning compressor and explained process and cost. He always wore shoe covers inside the house. A very positive experience.

They are very good. They took care of all our questions. The salesman was very knowledgable. He offered advice on why it was not cooling like it should and how to make our house more energy efficient. They were quick once they got out of here and everything was ordered. They were a lot cheaper then another option. They are very good.

I live in a small 2-bedroom,30-year old condo. I started with Kensington Cooling and Heating (KCH) in 2003 at which time they installed a and quot;low-boyand quot; Bradford White water heater (still working great). When KCH was sold to Hand C Inc., I was impressed that many KCH technicians were retained by Hand C and continue working for them today. I have also had yearly Service Contracts ($150/yr) for most of the past 10 years (including this year), assuring a pre-summer A/C check-up and a pre-winter furnace check-up. Routine monitoring and maintenance were particularly important to me as I had an aging HVAC system original to the condo that I wanted to carefully monitor and service to preserve as long as I safely could. I believe their technicians accomplished this as I got 30 years out of my tiny furnace (replaced in Dec 2012) and my 30-year-old A/C continues to work without problem. The continuity of trust and breadth of experience as the one company merged into the next was important to me. For example, the former owner of Kensington Cooling and Heating—Mark Knox (experience: 30+ yrs)--has continued with Hand C, Inc. along with technician David (experience: 13 yrs; also former KCH employee)—both have serviced my HVAC systems with excellence. In November 2012, David on the yearly furnace check-up discovered an irreparable crack in my furnace’s heat exchanger, a critical furnace component. At a subsequent visit (no charge to me), Mark assessed my space and furnace needs and recommended the Carrier 58CVA070-1-12, appropriately scaled and designed for a condo of my size. (FYI--I chose the Basic Honeywell Pro 5000, non-programmable thermostat; battery operated). I have been very pleased with my new furnace for the one winter season that I have used it. (Mark was the tech sent today--6/10/13--for pre-summer check-up of my A/C--great job!) The team John and Kenny who installed my new furnace in December 2012 came with 17 years of experience (likewise, previous KCH employees). They were professional at each stage of the installation: carefully toting the appliance and its components up 25 steps, into a tiny condo, navigating furniture, and precisely installing it and its ancillary pieces into a very small HVAC closet. They were wonderful from start to finish, showing exemplary teamwork and results! The cost was approximately $3,400 for the furnace, install, and removal of the old furnace (including a service contract discount). The good working order of my HVAC systems—with no significant problems—may be attributed to a good unit to begin with (from the condo builder), and my own lifestyle and use of the equipment, but I also believe it is owing to the talented, knowledgeable, and experienced Hand C, Inc. technicians who have delivered the best in preventative maintenance, monitoring, and other comprehensive services to me for 10 years. Importantly, too, they have been trust-worthy, reliable/timely, neat/clean (including wearing shoe booties, job site clean-up), careful with my possessions and furniture when installing the new furnace (2012) and new water heater (2003). I am pleased to recommend Hand C, Inc. as my company of first choice to continue servicing my new furnace, water heater, and 30-year-old air conditioner.

I was extremely happy with this company the last time they were here (Dec 2011) and even recommended them to others. The service technician was excellent. However, I called their answering service a few weeks ago when our heat pump stopped working over the weekend. It did start working again, so I indicated that it was not an emergency but asked for a call back to set up a service. I never received a return call. So last week, I called and set up an appointment for today . Nobody showed up, so I called and was told all appointments had been cancelled due to the weather (rain). When I asked why I hadn't received a call to notify me of the cancellation, after some time searching a computer, it became evident they didn't even have a record of my scheduled appointment. My rating considers my previous (very positive) experience in Dec 2011 (A) as well as my most recent (very negative) experience (F).

He came out voluntarily with no advance warning because my mother is elderly and we really needed urgent service! This was Memorial Day weekend and it was very, very hot. We really appreciated that.

Always on time and if a repair is needed they have the part on the truck. Always pleased with service

I had their serviceman come to try to repair the old heat pump. He declared it dead. Since i had takent he afternoon off, i called the office to inquire about the possibility of having an estimate done the same day. The owner came two hours later. He spent a bit of time trying to figure out how he could get a gas furance into my space. I wanted gas instead of a new heat pump. A few days later he left estimate for three different systems in a nice package in my front door. Absolutely no pressure tactics. The systems ran from 6500 to 12000. all had rebates from the manufacturer and from BGand E. I had estimates from two other services. Prices were comparable. I went with Hand C and their top of the line system. Hand C installed my heat pump 20 years ago and has a great reputation. We then had to deal with BGand E. It took BGand E a month to get out to the house and actually tell me that they were willing to install a gas line. The minute BGand E documented that they could install the line, i scheduled the installation of the system because I was without AC for some hot end of summer days. Installation was flawless they remove the old heat pump installed the gas line to the outside of the house, the ac and furnace. Byt the time i got home there was no sign they were in the house. the palce was left clean. I then had to wait again for BGand E to install the gas line to the house. that took another 5 weeks and some cold fall nights. When BGand E installed the line i called Hand C. They were here the next morning and finished the installation I have a new VERY quiet furnace and my house has benn the warmest it ever been in the 30 years i have been here!

Went well but is costly. Found out a family member accidentally turned it off the eve before the holiday.

Everybody involved was very professional. Showed up when they were supposed to show up and had the necessary expertise to fix things quickly.

We had another BGE guy installing a thermostat and so HC guy said he would come back. When he did he discovered BGE put the thermostat in wrong. So BGE came out and fixed it and the HC person checked the whole system out.

I called Hand C at approximately 3:30 this afternoon after I discovered that the condensation line to the AC unit leaked all over the floor. They advised they would have someone out today between 4p-6p and Tom Smith showed up right on time, cleaned out the line and performed an overall check of the system to make sure nothing else was wrong. I am extremely happy with the quick and professional response and decided to get a yearly contract with them. Excellent job, really appreciate the quick response. Thank you.

Excellent work, Chris, and Derek were extremely professional and courteous and worked tirelessly for 12 hours in 100 degree heat (code red day) always pleasant and never complaining. They were very careful with my home and comfort and protected my floors and carpeting. They cleaned up everything and showed me everything in detail. My home cooled very comfortably and my hot water was as expected- HOT. Woke up the next morning found water collecting under my AC system, called Hand C they guided me over the phone, and checked back almost every hour to see if the water issue had resolved. Although it had, (we suspect humidity had collected and condensed under the unit during initial start up) Hand C still sent out the same team to check their work. Both Chris and Derek arrived promptly, refined one of the drain pipes, and confirmed all components were working properly and informed me they would stay in the area if I noticed anything more collect. (nothing did) I am totally pleased with their work, responsibility and performance. There is no question I will stick with Hand C in the future and highly recommend them to others. No surprise my parents have stayed with this company since 1971 (and my parents are not easy customers)

I've been using Hand C for the last 10 years to service my heating and air conditioning systems. 6 years ago I purchased a new heating and air conditioning system, and continue to use them for service. I also purchased an air filtration system from them when I had health issues re: mold. Because of my good experience with Hand C, my mother contracts with them also, and has purchased her heating and cooling system from them. They patched her old system for several years, until it was no longer reliable. They did not try to pressure her into buying new equipment during any of that time. They are prompt, courteous, knowledgable, honest, and you can count on them if you have an emergency. What more can anybody ask? You'd even refer your mother!

It was Memorial Day weekend when the AC went out. We were hot! H and C was one of three contractors with whom we spoke. The estimator / sales person was prompt and well informed. He was prepared with material that was useful for comparison, albeit limited to the Lennox line of products. We looked at two basic packages. There were several options available in each package, clearly delineated. All were adequate to heat and cool the house. We chose on that suited our budget. Our old system was so antiquated that gains in efficiency were guaranteed no matter which option we picked. They offered financing through GE Money that was easy to set up online, with reasonable terms (6 months same as cash). The office staff proved helpful and flexible in getting the paperwork processed in a timely fashion. Installation was prompt and efficient. There was one mistake in the install process: We had elected to keep our programmable thermostat in favor of a new, but single-setting version. The installers failed to honor that request, so they had to return and reinstall the old one, which they did promptly and without difficulty. The price was not the lowest, but the service was worth the difference.

Our bedroom and my woodworking shed were being served by through-the-wall AC units that not only looked ugly, but were not very efficient. I decided to replace them with high efficiency mini-split units, did some research on various units, and called up a few places. One of them was Hand C (They are listed as a mitsubishi diamond dealer, and mitsubishi makes some of the top-of-the-line mini-split units). They promptly returned my call sent someone to do an estimate. He called ahead, arrived on time, and was incredibly pleasant. Unlike so many HVAC estimators, he actually did a proper manual J heating load calculation, including measuring the bedroom windows, etc. Most HVAC contractors simply look at whatever you have now, and either sell you the same or double it. He also checked angles to make sure the air flow would actually work properly and to figure out where they could place units (the exterior wall is not a straight line). He explained exactly what holes they would make where, and what the system would look like when done. He answered a bunch of questions I had (one of them was going in a shed where I was mainly concerned that it didn't freeze during the winter, but i didn't need it to stay livable all the time, so i had some question about minimum temperatures/etc), didn't try to hard sell me, and said he'd get me an estimate in the next few days. I received an email with the estimate the next day. I was very pleased with how thorough they were. Their estimate was quite well done, and described the things they would do, and what they expected me to do (I was providing the electrical circuits for the unit). After receiving a few quotes, I decided to go with them. The crew arrived at exactly the specified time, and were incredibly professional. Their foreman was on site making sure they were actually doing good work, and it was very clear they knew what they were doing. It only took a few hours, and even though I had said I would repair the drywall holes, and that's what the quote said, they repaired them anyway. They also made sure I was happy with how it looked outdoors, etc After they were done, they walked me through how to set temperatures, how to change the filters if i needed to, etc. As anyone who has owned a home for a significant length of time knows, it can be hard to find good HVAC people. Particularly those that try to do the right thing, rather than the thing that will make them the most money. Hand C is without a doubt, one of the best companies i worked with, and I would happily recommend them to anyone who needed work done.

They covered all for the repair and didn't charge again. They were very responsive. It was not their problem and it was the problem with the Linux. They have good equipments. I always recommended them to others because they always show up on time and they have the parts in the truck. Their services are in the neighbor hood that I live. They really do a good job. They did the best they could and it was not their fault. I would rate them high overall.

Hand C replaced both my central air conditioner and gas furnace. Their estimator put together an energy efficient combination that qualified for both federal tax rebates and utility company rebates. Their price was better than other bids, and their solution was more responsive to my request to meet the high efficiency energy rebate qualifications. Other companies tried to sell me discontinued furnace models, or models which did not meet the energy efficiency needed to qualify for the federal rebate. They did a heroic job on the installation and completed what should have been a two day installation for both the furnace and the A/C in one long day. Their installers were there from 8:30AM to about 8:00PM, staying until the job was completed. When I subsequently noticed that there was some vibration in the blower unit due to an off-balance blower wheel (factory defect), which made noise in the house when the unit was running, they sent a repair technician out to check right away, ordered a new blower wheel and had that replacement installed within just a few days.

Could not have been more pleased with the job! They came exactly when they said they would come, completed the work in one day (by having a 3-man rather than a 2-man crew), leaving the place spotless. They did exactly what they said they would do, for a good price, and on time!
