Description of Work: "We contracted Jim to build our Fiberon Deck after interviewing 3 prospects. He came out to our house a couple of days after the initial contact. He was able to give us an estimate that same day, he gave us advice and did not try to offer anything that would exceed our budget. He was very honest, laid back and patient. Throughout the entire construction he was always in contact and kept us informed about what was going on and did inspect the construction periodically to ensure things were proceeding as planned. There was some delay in delivery of the materials so it took a little longer than expected but it was no fault of Jim's company it was due to issues with the Fiberon manufacturer. Overall we are very pleased and would certainly use this company again"

Description of Work: On Friday, June 12th, I contacted Maryland Deck & Shed (MD&S) to get an estimate. James Sarazin personally came by my house the next morning, a Saturday, and gave me a very fair estimate that was within the budget I was trying to stay within. I wanted to replace my very worn 12 x 12 deck and a 19 x 12 deck, as well as possibly replace a privacy fence that was approximately 5' x 5'. Since I had already received my county permit the week before, Mr. Sarazin indicated that MD&S could begin work on my new deck that Monday. I wrote my check for the deposit and signed the contract on Monday, June 15th. In addition, because I located this company through Angie's List and picked MD&S due to the multitude of positive reviews and A-rating, Mr. Sarazin gave me an even better discount than the discount available through Angie's List. | |The guys showed up bright and early Tuesday morning and completed the entire project by Friday evening. I have company coming into town on Friday evening, and was ecstatic that I would be able to entertain on my new deck that weekend. | |Every day of the project I received a call from Mr. Sarazin, checking in to make sure everything was going smoothly and to see if any issues had arisen. Description of Work: We used Maryland Deck and Shed to remove our old wood deck and replace it with a new stone patio. We were very pleased with the end result and with the construction process itself. Jim, the owner, worked closely with us to develop a plan that matched what we were looking for and that fit within our budget. Jim also gave us great design advice during his preliminary visit and several follow-up calls, helping us work in a tree that sits in the middle of the patio's footprint and addressing some other unique features of the project. The team that installed the patio was very pleasant and professional and worked diligently to make sure that the work was completed as quickly as possible. We wouldn't hesitate to use Maryland Deck and Shed again for other projects or to recommend them to others.

Description of Work: Received a call from the owner, Jim today and he was sincerely apologetic about the breakdown in communication. Sometimes these things happen, I guess. Would I take a chance on their services... absolutely. He offered some great advice on the project I'm expecting to do and was very honest and knowledgeable. I plan to use their services to get this done correctly.

Description of Work: Replaced a thirty tear old deck with a new, slightly modified design which mirrored footprint |and general layout of the old deck while incorporating new features required by new building codes. Unlike the old deck, which was made of cedar, the new deck is designed with composite |materials which should enhance its maintenance. | |The contractor was quickly responsive in fixing details that I brought to their attention. |I am totally delighted with the resulting deck.

Description of Work: F&I: porch 5X10ft maintenance free, dog ramp sturdy, perfect total 18ft with rail & landing, maintenance free also, privacy screen on front porch, were to loosen 3 front stair treads but didn't. |Absolute PERFECTION in construction & in caring about the customer's needs, arriving on time and staying late to complete on time. Only because I am such a neat freek, I just would have liked if they had used tarps to put the dirt & debris on while building the porch..otherwise they kept some order as they worked and before they left each day. There was a slight issue with the material vendor delivering what was ordered but MD Deck & Shed got right on it and brought to site all that was not delivered ASAP. They got the City permit and kept in touch with that office as the job progressed. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to have a porch or deck or anything else built. My darling greyhound with ruptured discs in his back thanks MD Deck and Shed for his fine sturdy safe ramp, landing and small ramp. He shows when going up and down the steep incline that he now feels safe with the rails on the side and all that they did to improve on the incline to make it easier and safer for him to use. All is just beautiful and I could not be happier. Thank You Maryland Deck and Shed especially, Steve, Paul, Rob and Jimmy!! The BEST!!

Description of Work: I sent a picture of what are current deck looks like and 2 pictures of screened-in porches our neighbors have as examples of what we were looking for. The company representative called and did the estimate over the phone (never came to our home). His estimate was $5000 more than the closest competitor. This came to about 30% more than other contractors also listed on Angie's List.

Description of Work: They completed a screened-in-porch. We are very satisfied with their workmanship and professionalism. They were later in starting than originally scheduled but their service was excellent.

Starting with our estimate, Steve was very consultative and helped us draw up a plan that really got us what we wanted. (We were enlarging an existing very awkward deck). We had a few hiccups with scheduling but even so the work was finished very quickly. The crew was very professional, worked very hard, and went above and beyond for us.

Description of Work: I bought a house with an addition without stairs -- in other words, a sliding glass door opened to a seven-foot drop. I had a landscape architect draw up a suitable plan for a small deck/stairs, and after reading the Angie's List reviews, I chose Maryland Deck and Shed to do the construction, and am glad I did. They did a fantastic job. Really, I have nothing but praise for them. Not only did they steer me toward some great "green" composite material, they went above and beyond, including installing an outdoor outlet without charging me for it. I was a relatively small job for them, I'm sure, but never felt as if I was an afterthought to their bigger projects. I was just chatting with my neighbor, who had to live through a terrible, months-long concrete job/debacle of mine, and she mentioned how professional Maryland Deck were, as compared to the concrete guys. No bickering, etc. Just doing their job, and being pleasant about it. Plus they were nice to my dog. Big bonus points for that.

Description of Work: Called the company and I believe I must have spoken to Randy (don't hold me to that). He suggested to come out and appeared to imply that he preferred that no one be home or certainly seemed to prefer that option, which I thought was very odd and contrary to best practices to get the most reliable idea of what a customer wants. He may have not been available during typical hours but I believe he should have still proposed a date and time and I could have worked from home that day or come home for the estimate and discussion. Afterall, I don't think he was thinking of coming at midnight.This was in reference to a new landing and steps for the back of the house. I advised him that I wanted to be there so he said he would get back to me because someone was having a personal matter - so i said fine. A few days later I spoke with Jim, who left me a message. He agreed to meet me at my house on April 19 at 5pm. I left work early to be home in time. Well, you probably know how this novel will end. He was a "no show." I was already suspicious when i called him on my commute home to confirm and no answer - went to voicemail. I felt like a royal schmuck for leaving work early after having so much work to do. Since this is the only thing I have to rate this company by, I have to give them a big thumbs down because they wasted my time. Although they appear to do good work if they show-up based on what I'm reading in the reviews.
