Randy was very responsive when we called to get an estimate. He came to our home, surveyed the yard, and sent us designs based on our request.. Randy worked with us to alter the designs and Jim was very helpful in helping us secure the building permit and HOA paperwork needed before they could start construction. Both Jim and Randy frequently monitored process along the way. The entire crew from start to finish were extremely skillful, professional, respectful, and hard-working. In addition, they responded promptly to our concerns during the building process. We are extremely happy with the final product. The deck is amazing. It is just what we envisioned.

I was pleased to receive a comprehensive review of the deck when I called to get a quote for power-washing and sealing. The cost was reasonable and I was pleased enough with the experience to ask the team to return to a rental property for another conversation where real repair work will be involved.

Certainly the best experience we have had with a construction contractor in 20 years. Professional, honest and effecient beginning to end. The owners, Randy and Jim were responsive and oversaw the entire project on a daily basis; never missing a beat. All deliverables were on time and without compromise. Any issue, no matter the significanse was handled with deliberate speed directly by the owners in real time fashion (email, text or phone call). Confirmation of any changes in understanding or issue was memorialized via email with agreement. I would assign the highest recommedation to this company and look forward to utilizing them in future projects.

I called for an estimate on a Monday morning and Randy Smith came out the same afternoon. He inspected our existing deck and listened carefully as we explained what we wanted. The "low maintenance" aspect was very important; we were tired of pressure-washing and re-staining our wood deck. Randy thought the existing supporting structure might be in good enough condition to retain, which would reduce costs. He proposed a new deck using AZEK (PVC plastic) flooring with vinyl railings from another vendor with which Maryland Deck and Shed had had good experience. The proposal was e-mailed to us the same evening. Based on recent Consumer Reports decking material ratings, we asked about an alternative product: LockDry (aluminum with powder-coat finish). Randy was kind enough to investigate this. He contacted the manufacturer and had detailed conversations. He requested and received a sample kit which he brought to us. He also showed us samples of the AZEK flooring in our preferred color, which we found attractive. This, plus other information, convinced us that the AZEK was a better choice. Randy also proposed a couple of alternatives to the simple design we were considering. We appreciated this, although we ultimately decided to stay with our more basic design. Overall, we were impressed with Maryland Deck and Shed. The reasons we selected another contractor were: [1] Their proposal was about $2,000 higher than the winning bidder. This was based on a "not to exceed" price which included replacing the supporting structure and getting a county permit. The other two bidders included these components, not wanting to trust that the existing structure was acceptable. Given the floorboard orientation we wanted (perpendicular to house v. diagonal on existing deck), it is likely the structure would need to be replaced even if it was in acceptable condition, so we had to assume the high price was what we would ultimately pay. [2] Their labor warranty was only 5 years v. 10 years for the winning bidder. Notwithstanding these issues, we would consider using Maryland Deck and Shed in the future.

We were very pleased with Maryland Deck & Shed. Out of all the companies that came out to give us an estimate they were the most friendly and professional. Their quote was very detailed and reasonable. Additionally, they spotted existing structural issues and gave us several options to repair those as well. Ultimately, we had them install a new flight of deck steps as well as remedy some of the structural concerns with our present deck. They arrived promptly every morning when they said they would and completed the work in less time than they had estimated. Randy's crew cleaned up everything and didn't leave a mess. A great experience. We will definitely be hiring Maryland Deck and Shed again.
