Great service. Very accommodating (in the middle of the project we had to postpone for several days due to a sick child).
Description of Work: Removal of existing ceiling and insulation (that was improperly installed by the original contractor) in kitchen. Replaced insulation with higher grade, installed sealed lighting fixtures, replaced drywall, painted ceiling and one wall to match previous paint.

It was quite an ordeal finding a company who was willing to pick up where another company had left off- much less a company who was willing to work on a project where they weren't in charge of the electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work. After being hung up on by several other companies, we came across Omar's- and I am so glad we did. In the initial consultation Rafael met with us for 2 hours to discuss the scope of work and to check out what work had already been done. We negotiated an hourly rate for them to fix the framing and get us to a place where he could generate a quote. Not only was he detailed and thorough, he was reliable, punctual, and communicative. Throughout the entire project we found Rafael to be a very reasonable person to work with as well as an excellent problem solver when unforeseen problems arose. His commitment to seeing a job through to the end and having it be done well was apparent during and after the project. Rafael sent his guys Monday through Saturday- sometimes on Sunday even if there was a time-sensitive part of the project. Not only did they move at a nice pace, the work was outstanding. We selected floor to ceiling tile in the entire master bedroom and Rafael's tile guy, Giovanni did an excellent job. His woodworker, Jovo, did an outstanding job on all the door & window trim and the crown moulding. I really could not have asked for a better crew- to top it all off, they cleaned up after themselves daily, which unfortunately could not be said of our other contractors. I am all-around extremely satisfied with Omar's General Contracting, and would highly recommend them to anyone else considering a major or even a minor renovation.
Description of Work: We completely gutted our old DC rowhome (except for the joists and the brick), so every sort of task you can imagine was done. We had three separate contracts with an electrical company, a plumber, and an HVAC company which we maintained throughout the project. Where Omar's came in was when we decided not to continue working with the company who we had doing all the other work (wood work, drywall, tile, etc.) That contractor had completed the basement and had framed the upstairs when we decided to switch contractors. So, Omar's did everything upstairs other than the electric, plumbing, and HVAC work. This included: fixing the existing framing, installing drywall, doing all tile work, installing and finsihing new hardwood flooring, doors, and our kitchen cabinets. They also repaired the cast iron steps at the front of the house and repaired minor issues in the basement. Additionally, we had them remove all the drywall on the ceiling of the basement in order to install sound-proofing insulation.

We've used them before and they were great then, but they are even better now. Their communication is great. We needed them to hurry on the job and they were willing to work over the weekend for us. The bid was less than others, even though they did more. They are extremely clean and prompt. They are just great. They are really interested in pleasing their customers and they did. I'd never use anyone else.
Description of Work: The worked on the roof exterior, worked on the chimney mortar and did work in the attic.

They were very professional and very prompt. The quality of the work was very good. The price was very competitive. We got good value for the work they did. There was one problem that was not of their doing, but we had the bathroom fixed and there was a leak. It turned out to be the older part of the pipes that had leaked. They came over and fixed it. They did the work and did not charge me anything. They were very good in responsiveness. They gave us the estimate on the work and held right through it. They were very punctual. In fact we were looking at asking them to give us an estimate on another job and we contacted them this morning and they called me tonight. They were excellent and very pleasant to work with. Omar's has high standards, quality wise and I really like their work.

They did not end up perfoming work for us.
Description of Work: They were prompt in responding to my email and scheduled an estimate that was convenient. I found the individual who came out though to be difficult to communicate with and fairly unprofessional. At the end of the appointment I just didn't have any confidence that he understood my concerns related to the project or that he would be easy to communicate with over the course of the work. Their estimate was actually quite low in comparison to others we received but we did not use them due to my low level of confidence.

I had several repairs I needed done and called to see if Omar's would come for an estimate. The person on the phone was very professional and gave me an appointment based on my limited availability. Omar himself came out and walked through our house and made notes for the estimate. A day later I got the estimate via email. I decided to postpone most of the work for reasons not related to Omar's and asked if Omar's would just do part of the job, namely the garbage disposal install. I was worried that perhaps the job would be too small, but they said OK. On the appointed day, the member of Omar's staff arrived at the exact hour. He was extremely professional and took time to cover the work area in paper to not damage the tile. He was obviously knowledgeable and worked quickly. At one point, he found he needed a $3 replacement part and he went to Home Depot and bought it and came back within 20 minutes. Everything works fine now. Overall, I was very impressed with both the quality of the job and the professionalism of the staff. They certainly deserve the A. I will be using Omar's again.

I called Omar in a bit of a panic and he was out the very next morning because of the frozen pipes. He demo'd the ceiling, insulated the plumbing (fortunately the lines did not break), insulated the underside of the deck , foam insulated the wall penetrations and refinished and repainted the surface. Omar recognized this was an emergency and was very responsive and professional. Omar will remain my contractor of choice for all work at my home. Do yourself a favor and call him next time you need general contractor.
Description of Work: The sunroom at my was a former porch and is closed in but the underside was not properly insulated. The floor was very cold and one night the the water lines froze due to a lack of proper insulation. Omar's General Contracting removed the finishes and insulated the plumbing lines and underside of the floor. The refinished and repainted the surface.

Overall, the experience went well and I was happy with the result.
Description of Work: Called for an estimate to replace siding on a small apartment building. They met me at the appointed time and reviewed with me, what I wanted done. They provided a written estimate and once this was accepted, arranged a start date. Because of adverse weather, the date had to be pushed back but once the weather cleared, they started the work. The workers were polite, the job took no longer than expected, they cleaned up after they were finished. The only thing that was unexpected was they forgot to replace the awnings over the doors (they had been kept in a vacant apartment during the work) but once notified of this, immediately came and replaced the awnings. I am very happy with the work.

They had good prices, they were better than anyone else. They were reasonable about additional work. They did excellent work and clean up. They did work in a timely fashion. They showed up everyday. They also gave us a guarantee to finish within the time specified or take 100 dollars off for every day over. They were fantastic.

Throughout the whole process, we were impressed by their attention to detail: adding a door stopper for us on a door that had caused a crack in our kitchen wall (we didn't ask for this, he didn't charge), adding the insulation to the bay window mentioned above (again, no extra charge), and they even let our dog inside out of the rain for us while we were at work! The price, I think, was fair. It was comparable to the other two estimates I got. It wasn't the cheapest one, but Wilbur, their administrator, got my business because she was immediately responsive to all the questions I had about adjusting the estimate for the scope of work. We did have water leak into our basement during the next big rain storm so I called and Omar sent two guys out the next day which was a Saturday to caulk along the interior of our wall. That seemed to fix it. I have no complaints.
Description of Work: Omar's crew did a great job for us replacing the sub-floor in our kitchen and retiling with ceramic tiles. They also replaced two doors that were causing water to get into our house-- one in the kitchen and one in the basement. They filled the doorjambs with insulation and caulked all around the outside areas of the doors. In the basement, they had to repair some water damaged drywall, and that was done well too. They fixed a leak around our window upstairs and repaired the plaster inside perfectly-- same thing in another bedroom doing excellent plaster work and repainting. They also replaced our bathroom door, shaved off the edge so that it would not stick like our previous one did, and painted the whole area. They replaced the termite damaged wood in our bay window, found that there was no insulation between the exterior wall and the window radiator there and filled that, and painted the wood around the window area.

Omar and his staff were very professional. They always arrived on time and were a pleasure to work with. They followed up and wanted to make sure the job was done correctly and that I was totally satisfied. The entire process only took about a week (there was no having to chase them down) and they stuck to the schedule that we agreed to beforehand. Excellent work and will contact them again for future work.

Omar was on time for all appointments including estimates and work. He was courteous and professional and the crew left our home clean every day. The crew worked in our home unsupervised each day without issue and made sure to lock up the house each day at the end of the job. His crew performed an excellent job and we are 100% satisfied with the work performed. They went above and beyond in their attention to detail, even switching hinges on a new door to match the finish on the hinges on an adjacent existing door. A small detail but very important and he performed voluntarily. All electrical and plumbing work was performed cleanly and to code. The siding work is perfect, the sliding door was well installed and properly flashed in. All painting and trim was completed beautifully and to match. Omar's General Contracting has earned our trust and confidence and will be our go-to contractor for all work at our home.
Description of Work: Omar and his crew installed a sliding patio door in place of windows opening onto my deck. This included substantial demolition of the exterior wall as well as the windows. The location of the original deck door was converted into a walk-in pantry with light fixture and door. As part of this work Omar installed siding to match my existing, relocated several electrical outlets, performed some minor but important plumbing work and painted all new construction to match. Omar also installed a door, wall and light fixture beneath my basement stairs to create a lighted closet.

Making the appointment went well. They were very pleasant on the phone, and gave me an appointment within a week. That's where the good part ended. The day of the estimate, actually an hour before the appointment, they called and said "Mr. Omar is having trouble with his truck, and just realized you were an hour away and doesn't want to take a chance coming out there. Could you tell him over the phone how much drywall you want and he will give you an estimate over the phone." My response was "nevermind". I was not about to deal with a company that wants me to give an estimate on how much drywall they will need, let alone have him give me an estimate without even seeing the work.

Omar's came on the day they said they would to estimate the work I needed done. They sent me the estimate 2 days latter by email and then followed up by phone and email to see when I wanted to have the work done. The estimate was very reasonable so I agreed to have the work done. The workman arrived on time was professional and understood what I needed done. He did have to leave once to get more supplies for the job but was very clear about when he would return to complete the work. He was gone for about one hour. The work was well done and everything looks and works well. All work debris was cleaned up and the bathroom was tidy when he left. The cost was true to the estimate even though nearly 6 hours was spent on the job. I will definitely use Omar's again for maintenance needed on this 40 year old house.
Description of Work: This contractor installed a shower in my old bathroom. The present shower was only a divertor faucet with a hand held shower which was leaking behind the wall and one of the faucet handles had broken off. Omar's installed the piping behind the wall for a permanent shower and also installed a new faucet and shower set.

It looks like we have a new house! Everything looks very professional, excellent quality work. They finished on time, with some minor touch-ups to be completed on the finish date. We would definitely use him again. Omar is very professional and courteous and knows a lot about construction. They have great service, they always responded promptly to any requests, and any changes we asked for were made right away. They went above and beyond to make us happy with the work. Omar took a lot of time to make sure we were happy with the floor stain and paint colors and did lots of test patches for us. They did extra stuff like install a baby gate at the top of our stairs, and came back to do some touch ups after we moved in. After we moved in I was also concerned about the type of baseboard heater that was installed in our basement (dangerous opening for children), and Omar came back to install a different one at no charge. They also ran into some issues and had their work cut out for them moving our upstairs toilet, but he said he would compelete the job he promised at no additional charge, eventhough it turned out to be a lot more work and effort for them than anticipated. There were some increases in price due to things we added on, upgrades for a better carpet (we didn't like the builder grade), and we added on extra wiring for speakers. The subcontractor Juan Carlos knew a lot about electronics and did a great job! Despite our add-ons and changes they still stayed pretty on-target for the finish date. And Omar was very clear about what increases in charges would be made and what was included in pricing, and what items we would have to buy ourselves.
Description of Work: We purchased a home with most rooms original to 1968. The price included remodeling and updating the look of the interior of most of the home: Complete overhaul/finishing of the basement: Building and framing walls, insulation, building wall to seperate out an exercise room with laminate floor and double french door access, heavy up and replace electrical panel, new carpet on rest of basement and stairs, add 12 recessed lights on dimmers, new handrails for stairway, some ductwork, 6' baseboard heating unit, plaster and paint, mount large TV, wiring for ethernet jack, phone and cable, labor for wiring for in-ceiling and wall speakers (we purchased speakers,TV mount, CAT 6 cabling, speaker wire) Remodel family room: Remove old paneling and ceiling beams, install drywall/paint, add 8 recessed lights on dimmer, crown molding, wiring for ethernet jacks, phone and cable, wiring for in-ceiling speakers, build-out asymetrical fireplace to make it symmetric, re-face old brick fireplace with stone (we purchased), install other items we purchased: FP mantle, FP doors, ceiling light fixture Demolition and remodel of one full bath and dressing area: Install cabinetry and granite tops (we purchased), relocate and install toilet, relocate ducts, relocate some plumbing, install tile on floor and shower walls, install bathtub, shower/sink fixtures (we purchased) Kitchen: Paint, replace light fixtures and sink fixtures with items we purchased Other areas: Refinsh hardwood floors on 2 levels, refinish stair rails, replace all door handles and window latches (we purchased), removing wallpaper and painting several other rooms and stairway, replace lights and rods in closets, install ceiling fans (we purchased) Price listed was for labor for work listed above, several different colors of paint, hardwood refinishing and basic construction materials. The price did not include items we picked out to install, such as stone/mantle/doors for fireplace, ceiling fans, light fixtures, in-wall/ceiling speakers, and bathroom fixtures, including toilet, tub, cabinets, granite, and tile/grout.

He was the only one that included carpeting in his estimate, including installation. They would actually provide samples of the carpets, which I really liked. It was an extra thing that they did for me. I think that he was pretty complete in everything. He also including removing a mirror from the wall and moving around our furniture, which was a big thing. At first I didn't think that he couldn't communicate well but then when he gave back the bid I realized that he was listening to everything . He came back with everything that I had mentioned and the bid was surprisingly good!

I called for an estimate and Omar called back the same day, which was nice (especially since it was a Saturday). He scheduled an estimate on Friday, March 11. Someone in his office called during the week to confirm the appointment. The estimate was scheduled for 12pm - by 1pm on Friday, no one had come by. I called and left a message to ask if there was a problem and if we needed to reshedule. It is now Wednesday, March 16 and I still have not heard back from them. I understand that things happen, but a phone call to let us know that they hadn't forgotten about us would have been nice. A reply to my phone call would have been even nicer. While this sort of behavior might be standard among contractors in this area, I consider it extremely unprofessional and uncalled for.

The only danger from using Omar's Contracting is that each project will be so professional and painless that you will be tempted to give them another job...and then another. They arrived on time, paid attention to my instructions, and went to work. They worked fast and hard, and cleaned up fully afterward. I left them alone in the house during the day: no problem. I often found them still there at 7:00 pm, in order to complete a phase. They wanted to work every weekend. Although there was a lot of dust, they worked hard to protect the furniture, avoided breakage completely, and generally took excellent care of my house, my furniture, and my belongings. When my instructions caused an error that they couldn't at the beginning (bad choice of paint color or, please, just one more speaker outlet), they re-did the job without fuss or expense. I am still finding little unasked-for favors that they did: a repaired door handle, cleaned up grouting, a new wall switch, a hatch to seal and protect the attic skylight. The electrical work was flawless and the painting and plastering to cover the holes was so good that I decided to have them paint the whole interior. The roof has never been so water-tight or the gutters so free-flowing. The new fixtures in both bathrooms were installed exactly as I wanted. There was no quibbling over the bill or receipts for materials. The superviser, Omar's brother Rafael, was there whenever I needed him and ran a tight ship. Bottom line: these were major projects and they went more easily than I could have imagined. Omar's doesn't know it yet, but I have more projects waiting for them....
Description of Work: I first asked Omar's Contracting to re-wire the four floors of my 1880s house for phone and cable. It went so well that I asked them to install 7-speaker home theater, re-floor and paint the attic, install new ceiling fans, and paint the interior. That went so well that I asked them to paint and repair the antique gutters, including a difficult repair of an upside-down soffet 40 feet above the ground, install a new roof, and perform some other repairs.

Rafael estimated the job and supervised some of it, good communications with him. We had not thought to ask for outlets in the new wall, so those were not included in the estimate. We requested that they be added and they were at no additional cost. We requested that the new wall be primed, they primed the entire room. Very nice job, they matched the old walls exactly. Before the job, they put plastic down on the rug to have a walking path into the basement up to the work site, they also covered the furniture taken out of the room with plastic to keep it from getting dusty. Very nice job.
Description of Work: Removing drywall and framing from a closet and redoing the drywall. Redoing the electrical to include 2 outlets and two more lights in the ceiling of the room. Removing the glue down carpet and replacing with pergo. We purchased the pergo ourselves, they picked it up from the store.
