As stated, Omar was initially very responsive however we still haven't received an estimate. We followed up with measurements 11/1 and an inquiry regarding expected estimate week of 11/11 with no response. Very disappointed as initially impressed with level of professionalism.

Omar came on time and provided estimates for each job. I liked him, was pleased with his pricing and I would have had no problem hiring him to do the work but ended up using another contractor that had worked on my house. In fact, I may call him next time I need a general contractor.
Description of Work: Received estimate for 3 projects: 1. Install four recessed lights in bedroom 2. Install two outdoor lights 3. Power wash and paint deck
When I began soliciting estimates for this work, Omar was among the quickest to respond and provide an estimate. His estimate was extremely reasonable. Their work was, for the most part, well done. I am rather particular about how repairs are done and how the finished product looks, and I would use Omar again. I did have to call them back out to touch up and finish a few minor items, but I would not fault them for that. He and his workers were very friendly and completed the work quickly. I highly recommend Omar.
Description of Work: Patched drywall, removed hardwood and installed porcelain tile, painting.
They were great. They were really flexible. Omar came out twice to help me walk through everything and be sure we got everything documented. They were easy to work with as far as scheduling. They were really professional and got things done when they said they would. They were always on time. On the carpet installation they ended up rushing the order for us and moved their schedule around to accommodate travel plans that we had, so that was really nice. The quality of the work was really high. Everything turned out beautifully and we are really happy with it.
Description of Work: They did some painting and drywall work. They also installed some carpet. They replaced a gutter and took some large mirrors off the wall for us. They built some shelves in a cubby hold as well as replaced a vent cover that was broken.

Everything went great right from the start. I called Omar on Friday afternoon and he got back to me that evening. In fact he tried to call three times since we weren't home. On Monday morning morning I received a call from Welber in the office and we set up an appointment for Omar to come out that morning for an estimate. He was able to schedule the work for Saturday morning. On Saturday two workers came and did a great job. They were very careful and put down covers on the floor and furniture. They plastered all the areas that needed it and did a super job. It looks great and we were very pleased. They also cleaned up very nicely when they were done. I would definitely recommend them and use them again for future projects.

First of all when I called to schedule for an estimate I did not hear back from them for a week. When they finally called back, they said they were having problems with their answering machine and just got my message, so that seemed ok. Omar came out to our home to review the work needed so he could give an estimate. Before he left he told us we would have an estimate from him within 3 days, and then we never heard from him again. I followed up with phone calls and emails and never got a response (I wonder if that answering machine is still broken). At the very least they could have given the professional courtesy of a response, even if it was to say that they could not perform the work.

My husband and I were taking bids for a basement renovation project. Omar showed up on time and was very professional and courteous - took all the measurements, talked to a us about what we wanted, etc. He didn't provide a lot of feedback at the time of the consultation, but we weren't too worried because we were promised an estimate within the next couple days, and assumed this would include all of the details we needed to make an informed decision. A week went by with no word, so I called back to see what might be delaying the process. The receptionist/office manager was very apologetic, which was nice, and promised that we would receive the estimate the following day. That deadline came and went, so I called back a few days later. The woman apologized again, and I was informed that Rafael (the person apparently responsible for putting together the estimate) had been dealing with a family emergency. No worries, we were happy to wait a few extra days. Another week went by without a peep, so I called back a THIRD time - again, I was met with apologies and a promise to reach out to Rafael to make sure he completed the estimate. By now I'm sure you know how this story ends - we never heard from them again and gave up. It was disappointing to say the least because Omar seemed professional and knowledgeable and *most* of the reviews here on Angie's List are good. It's a shame that the people on the business side wasted our time with their lack of responsiveness. We expected to receive an estimate, and at the very least, a phone call saying they were unable to take on this project for whatever reason. My husband and I are both laid back and very reasonable people - if they had only taken the time to reach back out and to keep us in the loop I wouldn't have felt the need to post a negative review.
Description of Work: Omar's General Contracting came out to provide a consultation (measurements, design, layout) of our unfinished basement space. Unfortunately, we never received the estimate/proposal.

I wanted to like this company! Too bad they drop customers like flies. Their Angie's List reputation was strong, they were local, and they were responsive when I first called for the estimate. Within days of my call, a Mr. Gamez came out to meet me and see the work. He spent about 30-45 minutes doing careful measuring, talking through the job, etc. I felt great about his reputation and professionalism. However, after that I never heard from them again. They promised me a written proposal many times, but never delivered. I could call or email and speak to the receptionist, but never get anything more than "The proposal is coming." Because this is a time-sensitive remodeling job (ceilings are falling!) I wanted several estimates and I wanted the courtesy of either a proposal OR a response such as "We are unable to do your job at this time, please try us again for future work" sort of thing. Nothing. After several attempts at calling and writing, I gave up. I see that another Angie's List customer had a similar experience earlier this year. Don't waste your time calling this company!
Description of Work: Job in question was to remove 5 plaster/cement ceilings in an old condo apartment, install new lighting and venting, and replace with drywall. Finish with painting the entire unit.
Overall, I was very pleased with the work and the workers. The contractors scheduled us in very soon after we accepted the estimate. They came when they said they were going to come. They were very careful to cover everything with drop clothes and clean up after themselves - as ceiling repairs do make quite a mess. The work was excellent. I have no complaints about the quality. After the kitchen ceiling was done, I could not pick out where the repair was - looked brand new.
Description of Work: Omar's General Contracting completed a few home maintenance jobs for us. We need a big hole in the ceiling repaired after some plumbing work as well as the entire kitchen ceiling painted. We also needed some water damage repaired in the garage and some drywall patched. In addition, we needed our gable vents in the attic replaced, and some siding repaired.
Very professional job with great attention to detail. All the work came out looking even better than we could imagine. Worked hard and always cleaned up. Would definitely use Omar's again.
Description of Work: Remodeled and painted space in kitchen that housed old water heater into a pantry closet. Fixed walls, installed shelves, installed tile floor and ceiling light. Remodeled basement laundry room. Removed wallpaper, cabinets, countertops, ceiling and dumped debris. Installed new drywall on ceiling, 2 ceiling lights, new drywall on wall, new shelves, installed new 30x80 door. Removed carpet and installed new vinyl tiles on floor. Painted walls, ceiling & trim.

The two gentleman were very professional and did an excellent Job with increasing the opening, balancing and adjusting the ladder, finishing the ceiling with a molding and made sure it was to my satisfaction. The work area was secured and exceptionally clean when finished. Great Job!!!
Description of Work: I needed an attic pull down stair installed. The opening was smaller then the size needed to install the the ladder. Also I had to purchase a steel scissor ladder as that was the only type that will work in confinements of the area.

Overall, we had a mixed experience with this company. The main pros were the cost (they were lower than several other bids) and the project quality overall was good. However, the communications was an a significant ongoing challenge, they required a lot of oversight, and the level of attention to detail was disappointing. Additional supporting details: We selected this company mainly due to the low cost (and the fact that they have positive reviews on Angie?s List). We are fairly satisfied with the overall quality of the deck now that the project is completed, but going through the project was time consuming and frustrating at times. Overall, the project took several weeks to complete, mainly due to the weather, since it was an outdoor project. The main challenge was communications. They sent out different crews for different parts of the project, and none of them spoke English very well, so we did not have the ability to really communicate with the onsite workers. Our main contact was their person in the office, who spoke good English and was responsive. However, she was not able to make decisions or answer questions. She would have to reply our questions/requests to the owner, which sometimes got lost in the shuffle. The owner was the person who could make the decision and answer questions, but his English was also not very good, and so talking to him on the phone was very challenging. There were several instances when we requested something from them multiple times, but it did not come through. The other frustrating aspect was the amount of oversight we had to provide. For example, during the project, we noticed that some of the boards were uneven and they re-used previous hardware, which were rusted. We had to ask them to fix these issues, which they did, but these should not have happened in the first place. Also, during the staining, at one point, they told me they were done and leaving, and upon inspection, I noticed that the entire underside of the decking had not been done. They tried to tell me yes, it was done, but it was obviously there was no stain on it. They called the owner, who I had to try to communicate with on the phone (with difficulty), and eventually they went back and did the staining. The most frustrating issue was they reused a rusted wheel on the gate, and we pointed this out to them several times, and kept asking them to change it out. They never did, and at the end of the project, we would not let them leave until they took care of it. However, they were not able to find a wheel to fit on such short notice, so we ended up just accepting the old wheel because we just wanted the project to be done with at that point. Bottom line ? we got what we needed done, at a good price, and we are glad it?s done. However, the process itself was not very enjoyable, required a lot of oversight and inspection on our part, and communication frustrations.
Description of Work: Replaced the flooring, rails, gate, and top of stairs on my deck with new wood. Washed and applied 2 coats of stain.

Omar and his roofer came out to take a look at the problem and provide me an estimate. After assessing the job, Omar said that my siding was not installed properly. He said that all the siding would need to be taken down and put back up right. At first he told me that it would cost $1900.00. I questioned that price and he dropped it to $1700.00 and told me that it would take 4-5 guys all day to complete the job. As it turns out, they didn't need to take the siding down and it only took 2 guys about 3hrs to fix our siding (6 man hours). I explained this to Omar and he dropped the price to $1200.00. So, that's $200/hr for a roofer and $200/hr for a roofer's assistant. I explained that even $1200.00 is simply not a fair price but he wouldn't budge. Actually, he wouldn't call me back or return my texts. He had his office do it. I decided to pay it and make sure that the Angie's List community is careful to get everything in writing. I made the mistake of thinking that since he has done work for a friend in the past, I could trust him. Obviously not. Get rates in writing and not just a lump sum for the job. I have no complaints about the quality of the work done. I simply think that the price was way overboard for a labor only job that took right around 6 man hours.

Omar came out for an estimate to get some work done in our house. 10 days passed and we had not heard back so we called and left a message requesting an estimate or a clearer timeframe. No response 5 days later so we called and asked for an update and spoke to the receptionist who said he would get ahold of Omar to get back to us. Still no response. Why bother coming to someone's house if you are going to ignore followups and requests for an estimate to give you money for work.
Description of Work: There was no work performed as we had never received an estimate after Omar came to our house
My basement got flooded during hurricane sandy and Omar's General Contracting was the only company that was willing to do the job without charging me a ridiculous price. I cannot thank them enough for the job that they did. Do not hesitate about this company!! You wont regret it!
Description of Work: The crew came exactly on time (8am) on the date that they were to start the project. They took down panels, replaced it with drywall. Removed asbestos flooring. Removed and replaced the carpet (stairs). Installed laminated floors. Replaced doors. Installed a fiber glass shower stall, the list goes on. I have attached pictures of before and after so you can see for yourself how awesome these guys are. I would definitely hire them again in an instant and would recommend them to all my friends.

We recently bought a home through the short sale process that needed lots of work. Omar came in person and walked through the house with us and discussed what each project would entail. While we interviewed a number of contractors, Omar's calm and kind personality and thorough attention to detail won us over. It was a fairly sizable investment that we made in fixing up our new house and of course we really wanted it to go well. We decided to focus on painting the main level and repairing the basement: Basement: When we moved in, we found crickets hopping around in the basement. The water was entering through the door of the walk-up basement. Omar recommended addressing the drainage problem, which was due to the lack of flow at the drain. Rather than replacing the drain, Omar realized that the problem was that the sump pump was not working. In addition to addressing the drainage issue, Omar recommended moving the door up so that it sat a couple of inches higher in the doorway and replacing the rotting wood under the door with concrete. After Omar finished, the basement was waterproofed to the extent that we can now install engineered hardwood in the basement. Omar's people were very thorough in removing drywall around the door about 10 feet in either direction and replacing the rotten insulation. They re-applied dry wall and it looks like new. Painting: On the first floor of the house, we have a 2-story family room, kitchen, powder room, and foyer. Everything, other than the powder room are large. The kitchen and powder room featured some truly terrible wallpaper. There is lots of trim to contend with as well. In short, the painted rooms look great. Omar's guys paid great attention to prepping the walls before painting. When they were done, we realized that the great room color that we had chosen was much too intense and clashed with the kitchen color. Omar re-painted the next day and we ended up being extremely happy with how the paint looked. Overall, the quality of painting and the craftsmanship of the basement work were both outstanding. We have established a great trust with Omar and, very importantly, his team. Everyone is highly, highly competent and friendly. They do their work on time and well. While Omar's people were painting our house, our new washer/dryer were delivered. The Whirlpool representatives refused to install our washer/dryer because a bird had entered into the exhaust duct and died. One of Omar's guys removed the carcass so that the Whirlpool guy could finish his work. We were so happy with the work that we have since hired Omar for more projects. They can do pretty much anything, as we've learned, and that is really helpful for new homeowners. We enthusiastically recommend Omar's General Contracting!
Description of Work: We ended up contracting with him to paint our family room, kitchen, foyer, and powder room, including removal of unsightly wallpaper from the powder room and kitchen. Ceilings and trim were also painted and a ceiling fan was installed in the great room. We also had work done in the basement, which was suffering from water damage. Omar's people replaced a sump pump that was broken (preventing drainage at the bottom of the stairs leading to our basement door), removed and replaced the door, replaced the rotting wood frame under the door with concrete, removed and replaced water damaged insulation behind drywall near the door, fixed up the wall around the door like new, and removed the old carpet.

Excellent. We have used Omar for years now and never have to worry about the quality of the job. For example, with the deck, we never spoke about whether the deck would be stained or not (it never even occured to us) and so it wasn't a line item on the contract. We received a call from Wilber when they had completed the deck asking us to please choose a stain color from the Benjamin Moore line of paint/stains for the deck. We didn't get back to him in a few days, and awoke one morning to find the color choice booklet on our screen door to help facilitate our choice. We'll be using Omar this Spring for exterior painting of our home, window and porch replacement and brick up-pointing.
Description of Work: Replaced old deck with a new deck (approximately 12x7) and replaced subfloor in bathroom, installed new ceramic tile and vanity.

Description of Work: Fix wallpaper seams in three rooms; remove wallpaper damaged by water; repaint area.
Have an older home in need of myriad of remodeling projects. Met with Omar so he could view property and make measurements in person. Requested pricing for a number of immediate projects (remove existing sidewalk leading to home and install pavers; remove satellite dish; add crown molding in all rooms; refinish hardwood floors throughout first level; install new floor tile and cabinets in kitchen; finish basement; etc.) He also suggested some additional external work (removing plants and adding soil/mulch). I indicated that for any projects with a decor impact, I would provide the materials (ex: kitchen cabinets, floor tile, etc) and just needed the labor quote. I also specifically asked that he provide individual "project" pricing (rather than lump everything into one big contract) so that I could have the external projects done immediately before the weather turns bad. And, of course, I also wanted to start with a few smaller projects to verify the work quality and ensure that I would want to continue with this contractor for the entire remodel since it would be extensive. The external work would then be followed by having the internal projects done in a specific order to minimize disruption to the living space (i.e., crown molding first, kitchen next, basement finishing, hardwood floor refinishing last). Could not get a timely estimate and had to repeatedly follow up asking for quote status, although I do not know of a single experienced contractor who cannot name a labor price off the top of their head (e.g., $4/linear foot for crown molding installation; $5 sq foot for tile installation; $2/sq ft for hardwood flooring installation) for traditional work. I finally got disgusted and began contacting other contractors for quotes on the projects. When I did finally get the quote (a full week later than anticipated), it was (a) lumped as one large contract and (b) was almost double other pricing I had gotten in the meantime. If a contractor does not listen to you and is non-responsive *before* you sign the contract, they will most certainly not improve afterward. Complete waste of my time.

Rafael from Omar's gave us a quote a year or two ago but we postponed the work until last Fall when we contacted him again. He was totally responsive and beat his original quote significantly, agreeing a major kitchen rehab and installation of new IKEA cabinets, removing old knee walls, moving and installing new sink and fridge--all for about $10,000. Rafael, his master cabinetmaker, Juan Carlos, and crew did an outstanding job, including moving electric panel and lots of rewiring... on time, on budget, and taking care of lots of little extras at no charge. We had them take on several additional jobs, installing attic stairway, and, this Spring--faced with water seepage problems from roof and/or brick walls--we had them repoint all our brickwork outside, reseal roof, dig out around part of foundation, repaint exterior, install some shutters and paint front trim... all for only another $3,200 round figures--beating quotes of others who have lesser reputations. We fully endorse Omar and his team and consider them among the very best contractors we've ever worked with on the renovations we have made of at least 4 antique homes here and in New England. I wish they were in New England!!

I emailed the contractor about an estimate and he responded right away to my email. We arranged for a time to meet, and he showed up at the house as expected, and performed the walkthrough with me as I showed him the work that needed to be done. We needed some drywall work done in one bedroom closet and in the hallway, and also a few patches in the bathrooms. We also wanted the interior to be completely repainted. Because we were getting the home ready to sell, we needed to find someone that would show up as soon as they could and do the work as quickly as possible. It was already the end of June and we needed the work to be completed by beginning of July. He promised he could do the work in 4 days and quoted an amount of approximately $4000. Less than a day later, he followed up that initial meeting by sending me a document that described the type of work to be performed and the amount he quoted. The team, always nice and friendly, arrived early on the first day and got right to work. They listened to our request to work from the back rooms to the front, to accommodate our need to work from home and have at least one bathroom available at all times. They used a great looking paint, called Antique White, for the walls with white trim for the windows, ceilings and doors. They worked expertly and efficiently and were completed on time. They were a pleasure to work with. I will definitely use their services again!
