I would definitely recommend this company. They were able to come out on the same day that I contacted them for service. When the technician arrived, he quickly and accurately assessed the problem and fixed it within about 20 minutes.

I have a garage that belongs to a block of twenty such units, which is common in Baltimore. The door I'd inherited from the previous owner was in pretty bad shape: it was a wooden overhead-style door with windows in it that has subsequently been covered with aluminum panels. The glass was broken on all the windows and the door itself was falling apart, to the point where it would jump its tracks and jam about 15" from the closed position. We made the call to Fred C. Johnson and someone came to the house on July 20. They looked at everything that we had and noted our needs (e.g. because of vagrant activity in the area, we didn't want a door with windows in it), and told us that they'd be emailing an estimate in the next couple of days. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to look in my "Junk" email folder, because it turned up there on the 22nd. I was a little taken aback by the cost (hence the "B" there), but there was a lot of work done that wasn't directly related to the door itself. I think I would have appreciated a little more breakdown of the work involved on the estimate, but this is a quibble, really. I called them back and scheduled the installation. The soonest they could schedule was August 3; I was told they'd be there in the morning, probably around 9:00. I was also asked to pay $500 as a down payment. This represented 1/3 of the total cost of the job and was noted on the estimate. They were able to take my credit card number over the phone. The crew (of two--Wayne and Cody) arrived a little after 9. but they were apologetic; apparently there'd been a burglary at the company over the weekend and there was some confusion going on with allocating resources. No harm, no foul to me; I'd counted on their being around for the better part of the day anyway. They gave the area the once-over and asked if they could run an extension cord from my house (nearly 100 feet away), then got to work. They worked steadily throughout the day, finishing late in the afternoon. They were to remove the old door, the tracks, the wood to either side of the door, the shingles over the header and cover it with new wood. When they took out the side panels, however, the header fell apart, so they wound up replacing that as well. They were not supposed to paint all the new wood, and they reminded me of this before they left. When they finished the job, they had me come out and review what they'd done, and demonstrated how to use the lock on the new door. I was able to pay using the same credit card (they'd kept the number on file), and merely had to sign the work order. So, I got good, professional work without any weird surprises and at a reasonable cost. And when they left, they took everything with them--with the exception of a new garage door in place, you'd never know anyone had been there. Thanks so much! I can't recommend them enough!

Can't recommend this company enough! I called them when another company we had been working with failed to follow up with us on a garage door that was not working. They were excellent. They responded within two hours and gave me a quote that was slightly less than what I was told by the other company for the same door. They set up the installation on a date and time that would work to my schedule. The tech called to say he was on the way ( and was actually 1/2 hour early), was professional and got everything done within a couple of hours. This company was professional and courteous from the woman who answered the phone to the sales rep to the technician. They will now be my go-to company for my garage door services!

Fred C. Johnsson and Co. came out the next day and fixed the garage door in about an hour. It runs very smoothly now - like a new door.

When I received the estimate, I told the gentleman that the work would need to be performed within a week, since I had received notice that my HOA had arranged for the prompt painting of the exterior of the homes, to include garage doors.The company was able to accommodate my request and work began within the timeframe specified. The installers showed up early, worked diligently, and generally did a great job. I was very satisfied.

The chain on garage door broke when my husband pushed the button to open garage door to go to work. Almost hit him, did hit car. I called Fred C Johnson and they came out within 5 hours. It turns out the contractor who built the house did not put bolt that holds the chain on correctly, and it took this long to break (was installed improperly on other garage door as well !) Technician fixed both of them, oiled door so it doesn't make that horrible noise anymore, and advised us that when gearbox breaks, it is more cost effective to replace than repair. Both doors work great now, I will definitely call them when it is time to replace.

They were great. They left the area like they found it except with better garage doors. They were actually a little bit early which was great because I was going into work afterward. We would definitely use them again.

When I called they checked and thought the technician would arrive in about 45 minutes - well, he arrived in record time! :) He was obviously well versed in the type of door we had and the repair. He did a great job! (Not a problem but was unaware that they only take a check or cash at time of service - no credit cards.)

We were very pleased. The young man was very nice and it seems to be working fine now. I would use them again in the future. They were about hour early which was nice, however I would have appreciated a call first letting me know.

They were the company that originally installed the garage doors. They are responsive and knew what they are doing. The price was right. I had no problems, and it all worked out.

Installed 2 new belt drive garage door openers and controls. Complete cleanup and removal of all debris. Excellent professional job completed by very knowledgeable and professional technicians. What they did was explain how to adjust the RECEIVING sensor on the garage door opener AND how to re-set the "arm" on the door-lift mechanism I had to release earlier when I needed to move the door manually. I solved the problem myself, but really the woman on the phone was the key piece of the puzzle. And I loved getting a real person right away!

THE INSTALLATION WAS COMPLETED TO MY SATISFACTION. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. THE DOORS AND THE DOOR FRAME METAL COVERS REALLY INPROVED THE APPEARANCE OF THE HOUSE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CONTRACTOR TO OTHER POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS.

They showed up at the appointed time, removed the old door. Installed the new garage door with electric opener and provided instructions for it's operations and features. They removed all old door removal and installation debris and cleaned up after themselves. They recommended an electrician for any addition work that may be desired. All work was very professionally done.

Over the weekend, a family member broke my garage door by slamming it off the track and my husband made it worse trying to fix it. I call Fred C Johnson's Garage Door company first thing Monday morning and they were able to get someone out to my home by Monday afternoon. After assessing the damage, the technician had someone bring the parts he needed. I was initially quoted around $350 for an hour's worth of work. Not only did they finish in about 30 min, my garage door opens better than it did before it was broken and they only charged me $208 for the parts and labor! He also recommended the type of garage door opener I should get in order to avoid this type of repair in the future. I appreciate their honestly and integrity and I highly recommend this company!!!

Clopay 16' Aluminum garage door installed 05/2009 by Fred C. Johnson (that also went well). Sat. evening one of the two torsion springs broke. At my house they break like clockwork every 4-5 years. Left message on their answering machine with details. Rebecca called at 8:10 AM Monday (they open at 8AM) and said that someone could be there in about 30 minutes. House is less than ten minutes from their office. Technician showed up at 8:40 as promised. Took the time to answer all my questions. Indicated he had brought stronger/thicker springs that should last longer. This model Clopay had lifetime warranty on parts so the new/better springs were free. Indicated old springs rated 10,000 cycles and new springs rated over 20,000 cycles. Should get 8 - 10 years. As is standard, both springs replaced as it is just a matter of time until second breaks. They simply wear out with use. Technician went straight to work. Installed springs, lubed track and wheels, checked door opener operation. Finished in 30 minutes. Accepted payment by check. Left the site clean. No messes and he was very courteous and professional.

They came out and provided an estimate and helped us select the style doors that look great on our garage. The installation crew arrived as scheduled. They did a very nice job. The doors operate great and they look great too. They left the job site clean. On schedule, budget and looks and performs well. Couldn't ask for more.

We had three garage doors replaced. With three new openers and tracks. Only place around that you can actually see full size samples at their showroom. I didn't want to spend all that money looking at a one inch chip like everyone else has. They were great from the quote to installation. Would certainly recommend. Job cost was just over $5k.

I would use the company again.
