There were other garage door companies who didn?t know what I was talking about. I mentioned it briefly and the person who answered the phone from Fred C Johnson asked me if I was putting in a lift. So I would say hands down on them since they were terrific as well as exceptional. I have recommended them to others.

They had a person there the next day after we called. He performed excellent work and made suggestions that saved us money.

A company representative came out to the house twice, once to discuss what I wanted, and to make suggestions and answer questions. The second time was just before installation, to make sure everything was properly prepared for the installation of the doors and openers. The doors and associated hardware and design options were selected during a visit to the showroom. The whole process was quite simple. No problems were encountered at any step of the way. The company representatives were friendly and helpful. Several weeks after the order was submitted, the doors were installed in a few hours. Except for a few minor adjustments, the doors have worked as promised since they were installed.

We have used Fred C. Johnson in the past for garage door service and have always been pleased. This time we needed a new garage door opener. I called spoke with Mariah who was very professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. She explained the process, suggested options, gave us an accurate estimate and scheduled a replacement within hours. The 2 servicemen who arrived were also professional and pleasant. We could not have been more pleased with this experience, the quality of the service and parts and the price which was exactly as estimated. We will continue to utilize the Fred C. Johnson Company in the future and are confident enough to refer our family and friends, as well.

The 2 man crew arrived about 30 minutes late, however, they were both very professional in their work, answered questions and cleaned up after themselves. It took them about 5 hours to remove the old doors and hardware and install 2 new doors. We are very satisfied with the doors and the work they did. I would recommend them to anyone that needs new garage doors.

They were promt and did a nice job. My only beef was the cost. The guys were at my house for no more than 15 minutes. The material was about $30 so the service component was $160 or so. That is a bit much for 15 minutes.

They had to change the whole orientation of the garage door and it was a big job.

I called them They came Diagnosed the problem. Had the parts needed to fix it on the truck. It is what they do all day so it went well. Took about an hour and they were done. Case closed. Another happy customer.

I have to release the latch to open the door manually and then I have to reset that latch. I am too short to pull it from the ground and I thought it was broken. They could have easily come home to fix it and charge me but instead they helped me over the phone to do it myself. They spent 15 minutes over the phone instructing me and then I got up a ladder to pull the latch. They did that because I had used them earlier and it was a part of their services to prior customers.

The garage doors are working great; the service man was polite and efficient.

Perfectly, this company is amazing. The top spring on the garage door snapped on Saturday afternoon, so we couldn't use the garage door opener. We called and left a message with Fred C Johnson Co., Inc. that night. They called my husband first thing on Monday morning, we left the garage door propped open so they could get in. By the time we got home the door was repaired. This is the 3rd time we've used them and each time has been flawless. Good workmanship, prompt response, very reasonable pricing. I highly recommend them for any garage door problems or installations.

I called in the morning and a mechanic came the same afternoon. He diagnosed the problem, customized the new springs at their shop in Elkridge and came back and installed them; the whole problem was fixed in one afternoon.

I called the company and described the problem. The person I initially spoke with suggested I adjust the sensors at the bottom of the garage door to make sure they were aligned. I didn't trust myself to do it correctly and asked if they would send someone out instead. I was pleasantly surprised when someone was scheduled to come out on the same day. Nick arrived a couple of hours later and quickly made the needed adjustments. He could've just charged me the hourly fee for a few minute's work and left it at that. Instead, he installed brackets to hold the sensors in place and keep them from shifting from the door's vibrations. He did a visual inspection of other components (springs, pulleys, etc.) and explained a lot of operational features that I didn't know about. He also oiled all of the hinges. I've had no problems since.

They were both very professional, tightened up, adjusted and repaired everything that was necessary. I was very pleased with their service. I even asked them to provide a sticker about their company so I could find them again easily. They even corrected some work that another company (sometime ago) had done incorrectly. These guys went above and beyond. I was so impressed and happy with them that I tipped them and I'm not that easy to please. I mentioned a few other projects I needed done around the house and they asked me if I knew about Angie's List. I eventually called Angie's List, became a member and am glad I did.

My experience with this company as a very positive one. I visited the business office on a Friday afternoon to see the products that were offered. We made an appointment for the following Monday when a technician came out to measure my garage door opening and help me determine the products I wanted. Three days later the door was installed. All appointments were timely and work was done to my satisfaction. The technicians answered all my questions and explained all processes involved. The techncian even programed the home safe garage door opening device in my automobile. All debris was removed and my garage was cleaner when he left the when he came.

Called for an estimate and work was performed the next day. Felt very confident that the servicemen were interested in doing only the necessary work.

The company was very responsive. A representative showed us various door styles and options in the showroom and explained the benefits of various doors. The installer was prompt and courteous, and demonstrated features of the door, and even features of the existing garage door opener that we weren't aware of. I would highly recommend this company.

Garage suddenly stopped working on a Wednesday night -- wouldn't raise all of the way. Called one company on Thursday that couldn't come out until the following week. Fred C. Johnson came the next day -- they called my cellphone half an hour before they met me at my home. Their office staff was very helpful on the phone, speculating over the phone about the possible causes of my problem and giving me general figures for cost of repair. Two repairmen arrived and quickly discovered the broken spring, which had to be special ordered. They came back Tuesday (I couldn't be home Monday, or they could have come then) and repaired the door. It took about an hour to complete and the additional lubricating and "tune up" they did really made a difference in how quiet my door now runs. I would definitely use this company again and recommend them.

One top spring broke-door would not open. Cars were inside garage, so we were "grounded." Called Johnson Co. approximately 12 noon. They arrived approximately 3:45pm. Door was fixed by 4:30pm. We decided to replace both top springs.

One afternoon my 15-yr-old garage door opener just stopped being able to lift that door all the way, so I went straight to Angie's list (great info!), did my research, chose a contractor and put the phone number in my planner, where it stayed for about three weeks, until I finally got really irritated at having to get out of the car every morning to close the door behind me as I was leaving for work. I called the company about mid-day on a Friday, explained what the problem was and said that I had two questions about the models of garage door openers that the company carried. The person on the phone was very knowledgeable about the products and helped me decide which one would suit my needs without adding unnecessary features and costs to the job. I offered to take time off from work on just about any day that was convenient for all concerned and was given an appointment for the following Monday, which just happened to be a holiday. The workmen showed up on time, replaced the old unit, explained the programming of the new one, carried all the pieces of the old assembly out to the truck and were on their way to their next job in a very short period of time.

This is my first review on Angie's List, but I felt compelled to write a review for this company. From the start, everyone I dealt with at this company was extremely patient, helpful and informative. The lady I spoke to when I first called listened to what was wrong with our garage door opener. Then, she told me what was most likely wrong, plus all the options I had available to me as well as their respective prices. She was able to schedule the installation for Monday (I called on a Friday afternoon). The day before the installation (on the weekend), I called the company and left a message saying I had changed my mind about going with one of the options. I told them I wanted to go with the belt option (not the chain option). That was no problem at all, because the installers showed up with the belt. Everything went great with the installation. They changed the system and did some little extras on top of it (oiling, adding support) at no charge. Nick (one of the installers) explained the system thoroughly, he was extremely informative and helpful. By chance, a few days later, we noticed the garage door was dropping to the ground at about 1 foot above ground when it was being closed. I called the company, and they sent someone out (Nick, luckily) ASAP. Unfortunately, when they showed up, the power was gone in our neighborhood, so the garage door couldn't be opened to demonstrate what was wrong with it. But, after listening to my description of what was going on, Nick knew exactly what was wrong. He said our garage door (since it is an old wood door) was extremely heavy and that was causing the drop. He adjusted a setting on the door opener as well as the spring on the door itself. When he left, the power was still out and he said he would come back out if the problem wasn't fixed. However, after the electricity came back, the door operated perfectly. Any other company tech would have left upon arriving at a home where the electricity was out, but Nick brought his flashlight into the garage and started working. I would highly recommend this company. They are truly excellent.

The person who answered the phone was very friendly and informative, and described in detail all of the various options I had and prices involved. I asked how soon could you come out to my house, and she scheduled something for the next day. I then remembered that my wife and I had to leave for an important meeting by 3:00 PM, so she checked back with her crew and said that they would be sure to finish before 3:00. The next day a repairman came around 12:30. He was also very friendly and helpful and finished the job by 2:00. He offered to reprogram the remote unit in our minivan to work with the new opener, which was really nice and unexpected. The new opener, which has a belt drive instead of the typical chain, is incredibly quiet in its operation. This was a great experience, and I would call them back in a heartbeat for any other repairs related to garage doors.
