I was very impressed by the receptionist who answered the phone, she was very upbeat and very efficient. She took my information and within a few moments had an appointment scheduled within five business days. The technician arrived on time, asked me several questions, tested the door and explained that the wall control was malfunctioning and that the motion detector which normally turns on the interior garage light was now activating the garage door. He replaced the controller and since then the mechanism has worked well. He pointed out that the door was binding because of a problem with the springs. I asked him to repair that problem, which he did. The door no longer binds. I was very happy with the work and with the quality of service from everyone I interacted with.

I am pleased to join the long list of very happy customers of this company. I originally called them for a problem in 2002 and they replaced my motor unit and gave me two remotes for about $350. There was a problem with the unit in 2005 and they came back and serviced it. Now (Oct 30,2013) they came to replace a broken spring on my double overhead door. They told me they would be here between 1 and 4 pm and would call ahead of time. They were here before 3 pm and called ahead as promised. They replaced the spring and lubricated both door chains and did it all in about 45 minutes or less. The charged exactly what was quoted over the phone which was $144 per hour for labor plus parts, which I was told could run as high as $75 depending on the spring I needed and any other parts. The total bill was $144 for labor and $65 for parts. They were professional; knew what they were doing and cleaned up after themselves. I wish I could find all my other trade people like that.

Estimator on time and knowledgeable. Did not overpromise or try to upsell. Installed on dates we picked. Installers were perfectionists. On time, flawless work, professional, cleaned up, removed all old hardware. Explained everything. Kudos to Bernie, Joe and Bill. Would recommend without reservation.

I got a number of proposals for replacing my garage door, but I chose Fred C. Johnson Co from the 2-3 best contractors because it offered the lowest price for the job. During the visit to my house, the salesman was very knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations about how to deal with the unique problems of my door installation. I was even able to visit the contractor?s showroom so that I could choose from among the different door designs (the other contractors didn?t have showrooms). Although I did have to wait more than 2 weeks for the special order to arrive from the manufacturer, the door was installed on schedule. The work was professionally performed, and the results look excellent. The only complaint I have is minor: the installers did leave a few pieces of broken glass from the old door?s windows on the driveway. Overall, I was really pleased with the work, and I would definitely use Fred C. Johnson again.

Repair went extremely well. Technician arrived within the time-frame. Quickly diagnosed the problem and repaired the fault. Additionally, the technician initiated checking the additional door and lubricating both doors. It was superb work. I recommend company.

They’re great. They are very reasonably priced and easy to deal with. They were very competitive.

Technician showed up on time as scheduled and was professional. Only one spring was broken but he recommended that both springs be replaced based on the age of the current springs but said it was totally up to me and did not pressure me in any way. He replaced both springs and lubricated all parts and inspected to make sure everything was working properly.

I gave him a price range and he was honest about the job. I appreciate him coming out and would definitely use him in the future when I have the means too.

They were very professional from start to finish. They answered phone calls and questions, and scheduled the estimate in a timely manner. I paid our deposit and they scheduled the installation for 3 business days later. Everyone I interacted with at their company from office staff, to installers were polite and professional. Their installers arrived promptly, were professional, and got the job done quickly. After completion, he showed me how to operate the system. Everything was cleaned up when he left and the door installation looks great. Everything lines up beautifully and the door operates very quietly. We are doing several major repair and remodeling projects and while Angie's List has helped us find wonderful service, working with Fred C. Johnson Co. has been the fastest and easiest of all of them.

Overall the project went well. We got 3 quotes and Fred C Johnson had the lowest price or the exact same product (brand, model number, etc) We were originally scheduled a week out and asked to be called with any cancellations. They got us in 2 days early! Install went well and so far we are very happy with the product.

After backing into and buckling one door of a two door garage, we contacted the company that we bought the doors from and the company that installed the doors 5 years ago. Asked them if they could repair/replace the damaged door or recommend someone who could. They were no longer installing garage doors, but said that they would see if they could work something out. After several months and many phone calls with no response, I did what I should have done first, checked Angie's List. Fred C Johnson had many top ratings so I went to their web site and sent them an email. Within about 5 minutes I had a phone call from Gwen Pfeifer asking what they could do for me. Told her about the door and stressed that I wanted a replacement that matched the remaining door. She arranged for an appraisal the next week. Joe Svitak, the appraiser was on time, courteous, and very professional. He said the replacement would not be a problem and would send me a cost estimate. Received the cost estimate by email the next day. Estimate was what I expected based on the initial cost 5 years ago. Placed my order and arranged for installation the next week. Installer was on time, knew exactly what he was doing and had the door replaced in a little more than an hour. The new door was a perfect match with the other door. The installer adjusted the door and cleaned the area. Could not have asked for more.

This is an honest company. No lies or hidden agenda. The estimate was short and clear. There was no long explanation or elaborate presentation in an attempt to fool me into paying more than I have to. Which is exactly what Sears, Home Depot, and Lowes tried to do. They all wanted almost $1,000. One company which name eludes me at the moment wanted almost $2,000. They all claim that my garage ceiling is awkward so they have to build a custom opener that would be mounted on the side. Of course I didn't believe them. I live in a townhouse and have seen my neighbor's garage opener. Her townhouse is exactly like mine. I knew it was possible to have a normal garage opener. Finding the right company for a garage door opener was not as easy as I thought it would be. Weeks turned months. I was so frustrated and ready to give up. Until one day I saw a Fred C Johnson van parked in my neighbor's driveway and there was a big sign on the side that said "Garage Door" and something about Angie's List super service award. So I wrote down their number and the rest was history. I called them, they gave me an estimate, the price was very reasonable so I went ahead and hired them. I got an appointment within days and they showed up on time. Sears and Home Depot made me wait several weeks just to give me an estimate. Home depot lost my paperwork and I had to go back to their store and do the whole process over again. All these troubles could have been avoided had I joined Angies List sooner. Which is also the reason why this review is a little late. My garage door opener was installed in April 2012. A long overdue Kudos to Fred C Johnson Co. Thank you for the phenomenal job you did. I am very satisfied and very happy with your service.

I called for an estimate on garage door service about one week earlier..Joe came out as scheduled and we went over what I wanted done.Joe gave me an estimate and when it could be done..All sounded good and schedule service for the 2 July between 8:30 and 10:00 AM. Chris showed up as scheduled July 2 and proceeded to do all the garage door work..Chris clearly had done this work many times as he proceded like a true professional.Had some nice chats with Chris as the work progressed and about 4 or so hours later 2 garage doors had been removed an 2 new ones installed along with 1 garage door opener..Chris cleaned up everything and even wiped down the 2 doors...Nice ..A real pleasure dealing with all the Fred Johnson folks..

I left a message on Sunday and got a call first thing Monday morning. They were here on time and went directly to work. Only thing needed replacing was the number pad remote. Before he left, the driver walked me through the process of reprogramming myself in the future. Great job. Thanks

From the first visit for an estimate to the day the old door was removed and new door installed, we had the best service! Very friendly phone and in-person contacts with everything explained in detail. The workers arrived on time and completed the job quickly and efficiently. We would definitely recommend Fred C Johnson for garage doors.

The original install went well except our new door had a problem around the windows. FCJ ordered a replacement section and did not charge us the remainder of the service at that time. They gently removed our old door and we requested they not haul it away, although they will do this as part of the service. During the install they put in all new tracks and suggested a seamless rod to make the opening of the door go more smoothly. We had them order this piece as well. The new section was also damaged so they notified us of the issue and reordered a second time. December 11 they came with the replacement piece and the extended rod and installed without issue. We remitted payment and couldn't be happier with our new insulated garage door!

Outstanding job. They came first to give us an estimate to replace the entire door and then reviewed the cost to simply replace the spring, which we decided to do instead of replacing the door. They did a great job communicating with us and were prompt and very easy to work with. Every time I called I reached a person.

I noticed that our garage door spring was broken. I called Fred C. Johnson and they scheduled a repir for the following morning. Shawn arrived on time and took care of the problem expeditiously. I have used Fred C. Johnson many times in the past for our garage door and, of course, will continue to utilize their services in the future. They are always pleasant, responsive, reliable and reasonable.

They were punctual, friendly and efficient. The job was more complicated than initially predicted. Yet there were no additional costs added. They were perfectionists.

Bob came out to give me an estimate. He was on time, very pleasant and knowledgeable. He gave me a quote on the spot. My husband walked in and after looking at the brochures, we picked different windows from the ones I had originally picked. Bob refigured his quote, was very patient with us. I was able to use an Angies list coupon. I was getting a quote later the same day from another company. He told me that if they were lower that he would beat their price. His price was slightly lower. We scheduled for a date 2 weeks out. The 2 men came on time, were very nice, finished the job, cleaned up and left. Job well done!

Very pleased with price and quality of work.

Everything went smoothly from time of estimate to time of completion. Work done well and beyond expectations. Looks like we have a new garage door, not just a repair. Bottom seal on door prevents water from "flooding" into our garage. We live down hill from road so some water to be expected but definitely a big improvement. Would definitely contact Johnson again if we need repair or replacement.

Our existing garage door spring broke one morning preventing us from opening our garage. With help, we were able to get the door open enough to pull out our cars however the door was bent in various places and especially at the bottom once the door was shut. After researching on Angie's List I decided to call Fred C. Johnson. They were able to send someone out that day and accomodated my work schedule. Joe, came out and gave me several options from repairing the spring to replacing the door. I never felt pressured to replace the door but that is what I decided to do. I purchased an upgraded insulated door. He even felt that my existing garage door opener should be fine and not need to be replaced. Again, to accomodate my schedule, they had someone out in two days to install my new door. The installer, Rick, first tested the opener before installing door and noticed a problem during the lifting phase. I have a screw drive opener and he thought the screw might have been stripped. He immediately called his office and they had someone bring out a new screw drive while he worked on installing the door. Unfortunately the replacing of the screw drive did not fix the problem. As a result, Rick finished his part of the installation and told me someone else would be out later in the day to look at the opener but I could go to work and not have to wait for them. When I came home, garage door opener was repaired and new door looks and works great. Fred C. Johnson never charged me extra for fixing the garage door opener. I can't comment on the overall price of the door replacement since I did not get other quotes but for the service and quality they provided me I am more than pleased.
