I wish I could have hired Kevin. I think I would have enjoyed working with him. Pictures of his work are beautiful. Kevin is an extremely pleasant and obviously very talented and knowledgeable contractor. However his quote for the project was only the cost, not what work he proposed to do. The quote came in more than twice as high as the builder we decided to use. But if the occasion arises again, I would welcome the opportunity to invite him back.

The work was somewhat delayed because of weather conditions but was completed in two days. The crew, managed by Mike, installed the tops on day one and finished installing the faucets and accessories on day two. They cleaned up at the end of each day. Taylor Made Construction was the most expensive of the three contractors that quoted for this job, but we selected Taylor because: 1. Kevin Taylor personally did the quote 2. It was clearly communicated that there was a team behind this project not just one person 3. All "A" reviews on Angie's list We have had, like everyone, construction nightmares - our new kitchen took 3 weeks to complete and they demo'd on the first day - and we wanted a hassle free experience which Taylor provided. My only regret is that we didn't have them do the painting - we have a local painter that we have used for years - and we now have to wait until he is available.

He was very punctual and when he said he would call he called. When he said he would be there at a time he was there. After talking with him just a few minutes you realize he knows his stuff. Other contractors I had hired on small jobs and then asked about the overall project were not able to propose workable solutions. I must save a little more money before I attempt to complete it. However it will be done correctly and it will be done by Taylor.

Kevin Taylos's workmen do good work but I would recommend that before doing any work the contract should include detailed information about the scope of the work, what will be done and the list of materials being provided. This will avoid any unexpected additional costs.

The work crew was efficient, helpful and did a thorough job of cleaning up after each day. The end result was literally night & day and provided us with ample storage options. This is my second time using Taylor Made Custom Contracting, who I found through Angie's List, and will not be my last. I can't recommend them any higher!

Kevin reviewed the space with me and we discussed how the pipes would be moved so the ceiling would be level, where a small enclosure would be needed to block in some heating vents etc. We also discussed the ventilation and how to extract to the outside which was very important since the bathroom has no windows. I had a vanity already and Kevin and his team selected the hardware, vanity mirror, tub and toilet as well as picking out a wonderful faux hardwood floor tile. They really took the time to ensure that everything complemented the vanity. The tub (though standard size) was shorter than the width of the room by a few inches and the team suggested building it out and then putting an inset in the tile about half way up the wall which was a brilliant idea. The project was done on time and Kevin kept me updated on progress throughout. I think Taylor Made might charge a little more than others but it is 100% worth it. The team cleaned up each day and at the end of the job and really took pride in what they were doing. The bathroom is absolutely beautiful (wish I had such a bathroom in my own home) and a top quality job. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone and will be hiring them the next time I need a project done in my home. 100% +++ satisfied Lynne Barnett

His crew had to move large pieces of bedroom furniture to do this job. They removed all carpeting from an over-the-garage bedroom (about 24x24, with 2 dormers and 2 closets, 1 of which is a walk-in closet). They removed all the old carpeting and padding, They installed Bruce natural oak flooring (our choice of color) in the bedroom and closets, and built a transition piece between that bedroom and the hall, which was carpeted. Then, we decided we wanted the hallway done as well. It's about 25-foot long, with several angles and 3 other bedrooms and a bathroom door off this hallway area. It also has an overhang, over the stairs, because of the french doors into the master bedroom. Well, after they removed the carpeting from this, they realized they needed to remove and re-install all the trim edging that goes around the hall flooring (about 6-inch wide, blends in with other open foyer ledging around the entire open foyer area.). It took them about an entire day to remove railings, and edge trim and figure out how to put in new wood on the deges, and 'build back' the flooring. Each bedroom has a custom transition piece in the doorway. Each transition is absolutely level -- NO excuses by the crew that 'oh well, your floor wasn't level to start with, so you need a transition piece that's angled ...' (I've heard that in my old house, which was built in 1922 and I believed it when they said nothing was level ... but not from a house built in 1995!!) There was also one board near the entry of the bedroom that had a small chunk out of it. Unfortunately, it was not noticed when they installed it. BUT -- when I pointed it out, that piece of wood was removed and replaced. The downside is that only one side of the board is truely tongue-in-groove now, but they secured it and I can't even see the repair. Overall, it's an EXCELLENT JOB. We are very pleased with the new flooring.

Throughout the past 20 years, I've hired Taylor Made Custom Contracting for many projects in my home. Those have included windows, kitchen sprucing, flooring, basement remodeling, siding and roofing. We have such a rapport with Kevin, Craig and the crew that price has become one of the least influential factors. I always feel that they have my best interest at heart. There have been a few instances where I needed a contractor in a hurry. Kevin, the owner, has responded to me within minutes- even after normal business hours. Craig, the lead man on the job site maintains a superior level of detail with workmanship and general regard for the remodeling process- which can get difficult at times. This past project was small in comparison to others, but Taylor Made Custom Contracting takes care of us each time.

I contacted three contractors for a price to design and remodel my kitchen. I hired Taylor Made in the past to renovate my bathroom, but wanted to look at few other companies for comparison purposes. I ended up choosing Taylor Made for the same reason I did in the past. They were the only company, once again, who listened to what I wanted and made intelligent creative suggestions. It seems that some other contractors just want to take the path of least resistance. The design of my kitchen is truly functional, which it wasn't prior to the change. The layout that Kevin designed is beautiful. The lead carpenter on the job was polite, courteous and knowledgeable. His crew cleaned up everyday and was respectful of my house and pets. This is an honest company who really wants to please their customers. They see the big picture of keeping lifelong clients! Unfortunately that philosophy seems unique in their industry. I plan to hire Taylor Made again for future projects.

Job was performed last winter beginning December 2013-January 2014, approximately. After the job was completed, I noticed a leak in our sunroom. We have a new roof so I called the original roofing contractor to come look at the problem since our roof was under warranty. The leak was caused by Taylor Custom Contracting. They removed a satellite dish (per my request) and simply put new shingles over the patched area (that did not match the existing shingles). The underneath was not sealed properly. Also, when the new siding was installed they failed to replace the j-channel, that was originally there, and did not caulk properly and this allowed water to get into the sunporch area, also attributing to the leak. In addition, when the siding was being installed, the installers used a ladder that they nailed into our brand new roof causing small holes in my new roof. Also causing damage that would eventually lead to water getting under the shingles and leaking. When I called Taylor Custom Contracting to talk with them about the damage they caused, they offered to repair the damage for free?however, my original roof warranty would be voided unless I used my original roof contractor. Taylor Custom Contracting contacted my roof contractor and negotiated $200 off the $1800 repair bill, but has refused to pay for the damage they caused. Also, without getting up on the roof and looking Kevin from Taylor Custom Made offered to fix my sunporch with estimates ranging from $5,000-$10,000. Saying it was being caused by ice damming. After actually getting up on the roof and doing a proper inspection, that when it was discovered that the siding job was the cause of my house damage. Glad I had a 2nd opinion! He was trying to charge me for work I did not need and still wasn't going to repair the job properly! My roofing company took pictures and showed me how the damage was caused by the siding installation, but Taylor Made CustomContracting refused to pay for damage they caused. I did not want them to work on our house any more and possible not repair it properly. Also, my siding along the back of my house is now warped. After having that inspected by another contractor, they agree that siding was not properly installed. I have everything in writing from all companies involved. I DO NOT RECOMMEND WORKING WITH TAYLOR CUSTOM CONTRACTING FOR ANY JOB! IN RESPONSE TO TAYLOR MADE'S COMMENTS BELOW: I DID NOT ask him to purchase materials for another job. He offered to do so to save me money. I, however, did not use him to purchase my materials. I hired the other contractor, also through Angie's list, and used him from beginning to end on the other project (a bathroom remodel). My other job did have some issues. I asked Taylor Made as a favor to look at my bathroom project just for a second opinion. The contractor that was doing the bathroom remodel completed my master bathroom job perfectly and I gave him a stellar review on Angie's list. My costs were high on the other job because I used high end materials that I chose myself. As for the other work on my house, Taylor Made never even got up on my roof to look at the damage. He assumed it was ice damming because that's what my neighbor thought it was?who also had not gotten on the roof, but suggested I contact my roofing company, which is what I did. There was not too much ice to see at the time?it was melting, which is why there was water pouring in my sunroom! I do not appreciate his lies or his personal attacks. He recently wrote me an email stating that I did not need the money he owed us, which is why he mentioned that I was calling from our beach house. My next step will be to file a formal complaint with Angie's list and go through their complaint resolution process. I have documentation from my roofing company that the damage was caused by Taylor Made and also that Taylor Made called them to get the price reduced, which they did. I also have emails from Taylor Made where he said he would pay us after I gave him a good review. When he refused to pay us, I simply told the truth about our experience.

Response from Taylor Made Custom Contracting Inc
Although we try to make every Angie's List customer very happy, we regret this member has such a sour opinion of us! We did everything we could to make her happy, but she refused our help, and hired someone else to work on the house. Initially, this customer was so happy with us when we completed her siding project, she asked us to remodel two bathrooms, and perform work in her kitchen. Ultimately, she found another contractor who offered her a cheap price deal for the bathroom remodel, and hired them instead. She then called and asked if she could use our accounts to order materials for the project that was being completed by the other contractor! She thought they were over charging her for materials. When the bathroom was nearly completed, she sent me pictures, furious with the contractor she hired, stating they did a terrible job, and wanted to know if we would fix it for her. We replied that we could certainly handle it for her, and scheduled a meeting to have a look. She was unable to attend the meeting, and called me from her beach house, asking if we would meet with her husband to review. When we did so, we thought the work was acceptable, but it could have been better. We offered to help repair the work, but. she called, and said she would just with hold payment from that contractor and live with it... When she had a roof leak, we immediately went over and there was so much ice on the roof, we couldn't see any issues. She then called her neighbor, who had built the home, and he determined it was an ice damming issue. I offered to repair it for her in the spring. If there was a warranty on the roof that stated all work had to be completed by the roofing contractor, we shouldn't have been asked to remove the satellite dish, and patch the roof, which we did as a favor since we had ladders set up in the area. We think this is one of those clients that will always be upset with people, and look for opportunities to make noise. We always try our best, and we hope most members will look at this review for what it really is. We invite members to look through our 100+ reviews with A ratings, ultra quality craftsmanship and service, and our four years of Super Service awards.

We chose to go with a different contractor because we were able to got to one show room to pick the items necessary to complete the remodel. I am a visual person and definitely needed to see the products in person all together. I would definitely call on Mr. Taylor in the future to price out additional jobs. He definitely had great ideas,
Description of Work: Mr. Taylor responded within 24 hours of my initial call to schedule an appointment. He was on time and very knowledgeable. We received 3 quotes for our master bath remodel. Mr. Taylor was very understanding of our needs and tight budget. He made accommodations during the estimate process to work with us on the price.

I can't say enough about how pleased I was. They were fast, on-time, accurate, and completely responsive to any concern we expressed. This is a high quality crew who are pleasant to work with, easy to communicate with, and do a great job, and also have a knack, as someone else commented, for seeing what looks good. Kevin's recommendations for what would be attractive were spot-on. Would 100% recommend. There may be folks who will work for cheaper but I can't imagine they would do as great a job, we were left feeling that the money was well spent.
Description of Work: We needed a new front door, locks, storm door, and replacement of rotting wood around the door and our front windows. It wasn't a huge job so I was worried about finding someone good. Not only did the crew do a great job, but they also put more durable products on the house, instead of the low-quality elderly wood that was there before. Now we won't have to be constantly repainting. They had a great suggestion to make our shutters match the baked-on color of the front door so once again it will minimize future maintenance. They just had such good ideas, even for a small job like this one.

No work was done and guy seemed a bit arrogant to me. No thanks, I will find someone at least 5,000 cheaper on Angies list.
Description of Work: Provider called next day to provide a quote. The guy threw out a bogus quote of 10,000 or few dollars less to put down some ergo floor and drywall for a 11x11 room, which just sounds ridiculous. The highest quote I have received out of all the contractors I have been in touch with so far. 4-6k tops is what the room should cost, not sure where he got 10,000 or few bucks less.

We at Taylor Made understand we may not be a good fit for everyone. This member already had a few estimates before calling us, and stated that they were all priced way too high for his budget. When asked the budget, he replied a couple thousand dollars. When asked what his estimates were, he replied several thousand dollars. His requested project was to convert a room into an office, not just install a laminate floor. We hope this member finds a contractor to help him that suits his needs.

Prompt response from Kevin to get a quote for the work. Flexible and easy to work with, got the install done in about 3 days after we signed the contract. On the day of install, Mike let me know that he was on the way for the install. Arrived on time, excellent workmanship, made small change for the storm door to fit nicely. He explained the work he was going to do, cleaned up the work area and was very detailed in his work, he was doing small and big task while installing the door with equal focus.

The whole experience of working with Kevin Taylor was pleasurable from start to finish. He quickly responded to my request to discuss the projects I needed to have done at my house. The most pressing was the porch support columns, and then the other items were needed and I just added them to the list. Kevin listened to what I wanted, and gave me some ideas of how he would approach each project. He sent me a quote for the work, and once I accepted the contract, the work started the next week. The two men working on the projects were extremely efficient, professional and just very nice. They cleaned up after themselves each day (all of the projects took about 2 weeks to complete). My porch has never been so clean. Their workmanship was excellent. I can't say enough about how great each of the projects looked upon completion. The porch columns are so close to what was there and so similar to the others in the neighborhood, no one can tell that they were replaced. The porch steps and hand rails are outstanding and I am just so happy with them. It is a shame that the ceiling in the closet cannot be seen as it is beautifully done. The skylight came out fantastically, and not only do I not have to worry about drywall crumbling and possible mildew, but the sun reflects off the shiny white surface and makes the bathroom even brighter. The back window trim was well done, but won't know if the repairs will help this winter or not. The weather strips have improved the breeze through the doors. Finally, unless you were in my kitchen after the pvc pipes were installed during my furnace replacement, you cannot tell that there was a build out of the wall and the shelves replaced. The paint blending was so well done, I am amazed. So overall I am extremely pleased with my entire experience. I will certainly call Kevin for any additional projects I have. I highly recommend Taylor Made Custom Contracting.
Description of Work: Repaired porch roof crack near gutter inlet; replaced two porch support columns to match existing one; pour new concrete shelf on one side of porch; build out kitchen wall and shelves over pvc pipes; build new stairs on rear porch, and add railings; remove rear window awning, and recover window trim; caulk and seal upper and lower windows; tile inside bathroom skylight; repair closet ceiling; install additional weather strip to front and rear entry doors; and hang blinds on front porch.

This kitchen update required detailed custom work to existing kitchen cabinetry and a total rework of the venting system. The work was well planned and completed with a high level of craftsmanship. Cutting out and rebuilding the cabinet to convert to a farmhouse sink required care and precision to maintain the existing look of the painted cabinets. The best part of this stage was that they made sure I never went without a working kitchen sink. As with any project there are bumps in the road. My new range was damaged and they quickly reordered another and, again, made sure I did not do without a range. The venting system was complex because I did not want a hood obstructing the view of my open concept kitchen. They worked through the floor and wall so that everything looked exactly as I wanted. The counter top turned out beautifully and they tweaked it so that it all came together perfectly. Everyone I dealt with was very pleasant and accommodating. They stood by their work and made sure I was completely satisfied at every step of the way, often making suggestions to improve my ideas.
Description of Work: Modified kitchen cabinets to accommodate a new farmhouse sink, created a custom kitchen venting system and installed new range, installed new counter tops.

Kevin has a knack for design, color and materials, overall. We bypassed using a kitchen design center for our planning. He just came over and mapped it out, working together with me. He had an overarching sense of vision, a listening ear for my preferences, and an understanding of what would be needed in the way of detail and functionality. If I suggested something that didn?t sit right with him, he let me know his opinion, and generally his instincts/experience showed through. He was right on target with steering me away from mistakes as well as having creative ideas and making making good suggestions. He even had a great eye for paint, and kept me from choosing colors that would have been too dark, and in the end the colors I chose for my main living area were perfect, with the effect I had wanted. Kevin is an excellent communicator, and touched base with me regularly and conscientiously. I always knew what was going on, how long things would take, and received immediate responses when I had questions. This was true from the planning phase and all the way through the project -- not a quick short project, either. Kevin has an excellent relationship with the individuals, supervisors/teams that he brings to the work site. They are all good folks, who aim to please and were readily responsive to me as the homeowner, as well as to Kevin. He treats them right, they are appreciative of that, and it shows in the way they conducted themselves and in turn treated me -- cheerfully and professionally. I felt safe and confident with them coming, going and working in my home. Everyone took care in the work that they did, and pride in the quality of the results. There were constant checks to make sure that the quality of the workmanship was the best, and that any small decisions that needed to be made along the way were given appropriate attention. There was attention paid to things that were not done correctly originally in the house, and Kevin fixed a leak in the roof, additionally. And after the job was done, good attention was paid to the punch list and anything that I needed that arose afterward. Kevin is pricey. Pricier than the competition on the first bid. Reasonable in cost for additional work added on after the initial contract. I suggest paying good attention if you find yourself adding on additional projects to your original plan, and making sure those costs are mapped out clearly before giving the nod to additional work, so that you are clear and not surprised in the end by a larger than anticipated price tag, however. Kevin may be pricey, but I felt comfortable with my large project in his capable hands at a time of transition in my life when I needed to be able to trust that things would go smoothly, on a good schedule, with no major screw ups. In fact, I give Kevin high scores on all those things. I also give him credit for treating his employees fairly and that was part of what I paid for. Good workers, working for a good and fair employer -- everyone very conscientious and accountable.
Description of Work: Kevin did a large project for me in a townhome I was moving to. He entirely refurbished the main floor, putting in new hardwood floors, new bathroom, entirely new kitchen, and finishing everything very well. Kevin also did work in two other bathrooms in my house, and installed my old kitchen cabinets in my laundry room area. He replaced bannisters with drywall on the stairs, which had the effect of updating the design of my home on two levels--in the main living room area and on the landing upstairs.

I was getting water in my house from an addition that was put on my house for a new rooftop deck. I contacted Taylor Made after having no luck with a roofing company that we had come look at the problem. Kevin was very professional and talked with me about the possibilities before they even came out. A few days later Mark came out to the house to give me an estimate. He was punctual and very professional. Mark came up with a few ideas of what could be causing the leak. The work was scheduled and completed within two weeks of the estimate. So far we have not seen a single drop of water in the house. Taylor Made did a fantastic job and I would recommend them to anyone that needs a contractor.
Description of Work: Repaired holes and cracks on my roof and extended the flashing on a small addition on the roof that leads to my rooftop deck.

(Removed Member Name), Thanks you so much for the glowing review! We couldn't have asked for a better client, either. You and (Removed Name) were totally accessible even though you were out of the country for a majority of the project. We're here for you when you're ready to tackle the next project.

Kevin and his crew are incredible craftsman from design through installation and including the finishing touches. Kevin listens to your ideas and guides you through design choices that will work in your space. He works hard to give you a unique bathroom rather than a cookie cutter, quick installation. His workers are as dedicated as he is and always strive to create the best. Our bathroom presented several design challenges, yet Kevin's crew spent hours on the placement of each part of the bathroom to give us a soothing space that functions efficiently in our upstairs space. Our tile work is beautiful; the floor and the shower are flawless and compliments the granite tile perfectly. Kevin went beyond the scope of the job to fix small problems near the bathroom too. He replaced a broken light fixture outside the bathroom and replaced baseboard trim on an adjoining wall. This is the second job that Kevin has done for us. He is the first contractor I will call for future jobs!
Description of Work: Completely remodeled and increased the size of our upstairs guest bathroom. Installed new walls, floors, ceiling, electrical, plumbing, shower, cabinets, counters, sinks, fixtures, toilet, and tiles. Finished the adjoining wall in the adjoining bedroom including a new closet, drywall, electrical, and molding. Fixed the hallway lighting and floor molding near the bathroom.

Taylor Made Custom Contracting Inc. were really professional. They stuck with the job. The contractor ended up coming back on a Sunday morning to do the finishing touches. The roof is beautiful. They took off everything and were careful with it. If it was going to rain they didn't start until afterwards, they came the next day after the rain. We were really impressed. They cleaned up really well after themselves. The contractor was here at 6:30 in the morning, he was always on time. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Taylor Made Custom Contracting Inc. just recently put a new roof on our house.

I have used them previously for replacement of a two story palladian window. They did a beautiful job, at a reasonable price, so they were my first choice for the list of repairs I needed. Their estimate was the same as other contractors. All the work they did was top quality, and done in the time frame requested. Kevin and his staff were all very professional, personable, and easy to work with. He was very responsive any time I had a question. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Replace existing kitchen counter tops with granite, replaced a kitchen window, repaired a crack in ceiling, replaced a shutter, secured all remaining shutters, fixed several windows, fixed a leak in the roof.

So many hassles. Based on Angie?s List?s rating of A, we decided to use Taylor Made Construction to install porcelain tile in our home?s family area. When the tile was initially installed, it looked good. Upon further inspection, we saw that many of the tile edges looked rough and uneven. This included the tiles immediately outside to the bathroom, the tiles near the steps, and the tiles on the edge of the hearth. Also, some kind of sticky black substance covered portions of the family area walls (which had just been freshly painted). I have had ceramic tile installed in three bathrooms and our basement and had never had any problem with walls. Kevin Taylor admitted to not properly supervising the job. The floor installer returned and removed the black substance with a cleaner that removed the paint from portions of the walls. Taylor Made offered to repaint, but I had my painter come back and repaint the walls. It took Taylor several weeks to pay him. Some of the edging was dealt with by installing molding over it. When I asked about installing molding to cover the edging by the hearth, Kevin Taylor said that molding would not adhere to the surface. However, one of his employees indicated that a thin piece of molding could be used. My "can-do" painter installed molding to cover the edges - with great results. Finally, for the 1st and 2nd payments of 3 payments, I had paid Taylor Made with two checks. Before the job was completed, I told Kevin Taylor that I was going to use a credit card (since the company offers the option of payment by credit card). He has since contacted me several times via cell phone and email in hopes that I will use a check rather than a credit card for the last payment.
Description of Work: Installed porcelain floor tile and molding and installed carpeting on two sets of steps; Removed old carpet.

We're so sorry this member wasn't as happy as most of our clients are after working with us. We did meet the timing constraints requested, which pressured us into hiring a tile installer that we will never use again. We offered to repaint for them, but paid their painter to do it instead, since they wanted to use their own person. We did use the tile the owners purchased, so we can't speak to cut tile edges, but we hope this member does enjoy the new flooring, and does realize we don't normally have these types of issues.

I chose Taylor Made Custom Contracting to rebuild the front porch (which is original to the house), and tear down the kitchen/lower floor bathroom bumpout, which has a deteriorating foundation, after reading reviews on Angie's List. I met with him quite a few times, and found him genial and professional, and interested in what I wanted to do. If anything, he seemed more ready to go than I was! I give him a big A for patience, as this was my first house and first attempt at renovations, and I was see-sawing around the dimensions (I'm not good at visualizing measurements), and was trying to get financing for the project. Sometimes, he is a little slower than one would expect to get back to you, at times, but I suspect because he is a very busy contractor, just judging by the number of reviews on the list. His estimate did come in highest of the contractors I talked to, but I was more interested in quality of workmanship than just the budget. I wanted the job to be one and done! Unfortunately, the work never got off the ground. Just as I decided on a financing company to back the loan for the project, I was laid off from my job and had to bring everything to a grinding halt. I'm still currently job searching, but hope to find something permanent soon, and get my renovations back on track--before the kitchen falls off!
