Craig & Luke arrived on time and setup equipment in the space designated. They worked throughout the day & ensured the doors fit properly and were plumb and swung freely and smoothly - a difficult job when setting heavy solid core door slabs into an existing metal framework which were not level or plumb. They were both courteous and polite, and cleaned the work site when they were finished. Overall, quality workmanship and an eye for detail - as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for".
Description of Work: - Removal of Door Slab - Rehanging of (2) Solid Core Interior Door Slabs, including punchouts for the hinges and hardware to an existing metal framework. - Adjustment of existing metal framework, including threshold, new hinges, and latch strikes. - Sanding of original metal hinges - Installing new metal hinges & door hardware - Drywall repair, patch & sand

Taylor Made did a great job with our basement. The workers were the most professional I have experienced when it comes to home improvements. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to have work done on your home.
Description of Work: Taylor Made finished our basement for us. This included putting a bathroom in as well.
When remodeling, the construction process is equally important as the final product. Kevin Taylor was in constant communication with us. He allowed us to choose all of our accessories and provided me with a spreadsheet with all the prices. Everything was transparent. He crew was professional, friendly and considerate. They made recommendations and had our best interest at heart. They took their jobs seriously and made every attempt to keep us more than satisfied. I've used Taylor Made for many projects. I continue to rehire Taylor Made because they are consistent. I receive outstanding quality work from the crew and receive creative yet functional designs from Mr. Taylor. If you want a beautiful project from a trustworthy company, hire Taylor Made.
Description of Work: We recently hired Taylor Made Custom Contracting to remodel our basement. Mr. Taylor's design utilized every inch of space making the area as functional as possible. He incorporated a reading nook under the staircase and camouflaged utility items in closets. We originally had a pole in the middle of our basement, but Kevin Taylor and his crew installed a structural beam in its place. Because the room was opened up, we now have a billiard table in that space. They even created a tray ceiling in order to hide the structural beam. Kevin Taylor helped us choose materials that were attractive and durable. We added a full bathroom to the area. It has a custom shower complete with niches, diamond patterned tile and a transparent custom shower door.

The job was overall top quality with great attention detail... he came over and gave us an estimate and did a great job from the start until the completion of the job. He even helped out on a few other projects around the house. He is very trustworthy and punctual.
Description of Work: Kevin Taylor is extremely professional and did a great job designing a build out for our family in the entranceway for the kids to hang jackets, store their shoes, and backpacks. He also build a great bench as part of the design. In fact, he did such a terrific job we hired him to finish our basement with a bedroom, closet and detailed molding which he will be starting very shortly.
I got taken so this isn't easy for me to admit what everybody knows.I allowed myself to be taken in by Mr. Taylor and his main worker.I called Mr.Taylor and what I was proposing was a nice deal for him. He sized me up and that was all he needed. I was desperate to get my home back and my own exasperation set me up to become the perfect fool. I never was provided with a contract. It wasn't until I remembered that State Farm and Mr.Taylor were trying agree on the estimate. That estimate is the contract. I called my State Farm claims rep. who told me there was a contract and would send it to me. I was floored when I opened the envelope to find a 19-page estimate with over one hundred issues that Mr. Taylor was willing to take on. He was the one who made up the estimate so he can't complain now. They came to scam me and I was ready to be scammed. They just disturbed me and took my spring and summer and now probably my fall. We lost our privacy and it was terrible. There is no good future for us now. dos be careful whom you chose. have another person help you if you are alone. It helps to have an objective person help you. I had nobody to help me. don t's No matter what do not let anybody push you around and make you sign before you can think it over and again have a relative or good friend help you make a judgment that will affect your life. Let somebody be tough for you. Take pictures possibly to help you.
Description of Work: We had had a small arc attic fire on January 28, 2011. Because I heard the wires crackling and realized we were going to have a fire we called 911and 4 firetrucks arrived in a few minutes. They extinguished the fire immediately that never spread beyond one yard's diameter. We had no smoke or water damage. The next morning our State's Farm claims rep. arrived with another man, Frederick Haase of Haase Contracting who claimed he smelled smoke and had someonegoing around the smelling our clothes and curtains. Before we knew it we had people with contracts all over and we were cooked. After a 3 months' stay in an apartment we returned to a house with surfaces now rough and gritty having been sprayed with an anti-smoke chemical. The top two floors were filthy and stained and awful Our possessions that had to be taken out for the spraying could be done were stolen, broken, cracked, stained, disrepaired, etc, We were devastated and complained to State Farm who eventually allowed us to chose our own contractor who would address all the damages with State Farm paying for the work. The driveway also was stained and State Farm would also pay for a new concrete driveway. We chose Taylormade because of their excellent ratings and Kevin Taylorsaid he would be willing to work with State Farm and address all the problems. It took almost a year before State Farm and Mr. Taylor agreed on an estimate for the house. I left everything up to Mr.Taylor because I trusted him and knew he would be knowledgeable about the work needed and the way to address the problems. I felt relieved that we would finally get our beautiful home and our normal lives back. My husband has Alzheimer's and is now in the middle stages and he needs constant caretaking. We also had recently adopted an abandoned cat. We were getting letters to keep us advised as to the progress. On April Mr.Taylor came to our house with a copayable State Farm check for $38,703.31 that would cover all the work at hand. I had faith thatour lives were finally going to be normal after more than one year of suffering. He and I went through the top floors discussing again what his men were going to repair and replace and work on. The surfaces like the walls and the woodwork were a prime issue that needed comprehensive sanding followed by two coats of paint or staining. work started on April two workers showed up at our house to start work. They just used little pieces of sandpaper and sanded the walls here and there. I was busy working outside on our yard and garden that needed lots of attention. I just assumed that everything that was being done was the professional way. Even though they never used electric sanders, poles, sanding blocks, ladders, etc. to do the work I kept telling myself that they knew what they were doing. I thought the were all so nice. When they were still working in the master bedroom we started to try to move back into the large guest bedroom. While I started to clean it I realized that the walls were basically still rough. So I started to sand the walls and then before I know it I was doing the work that they should have done. I was sanding, cleaning, painting. The bifold door they took down that they took down because they said it was awful they had replaced with two flat slabs of wood and looked terrible. I then ordered bifold doors at State Farm the I paid for myself and when they arrived installed myself with my husband's help. They wanted to charge me $2.500 for the awful doors they put up. I noticed that the places they did sand were easily accessible. We have a wall 17'high they totally ignored.I talked to Mr.Taylor and showed him the many problems but he ignored me. I then knew that they had taken me. I had lost money and time and my spring and summer. Mr.Taylor couldn't have cared less. He just insults my memory and lies and lies. He tricked me. People kept telling me it's because I am a woman and my husband is sick. I was there for the taking. The same occurred with the driveway. He would tell me that a fake concrete contractor could do the work of replacing the driveway. He was hiding from me that he was going to do the work. I refused to let him throw rocks on the driveway and slather them with concrete. I was not going to allow him. He was scary when he insisted on doing the driveway and he couldn't force me. I had no option but pay for the driveway. I was spending money and he had every penny for himself. He would tell me he was willing to pay from a check for $5,919.91 that State Farm set to pay for the driveway. We took money out of a CD and got penalized $90.00. to pay for the driveway. He would tell me that he would be willing to pay for the driveway but I had to vow not to make any complaints against him and say that all the work was finished and was good work. That in my book is a form of extortion. He will say that he has sent money by Certified Mail Return Reciept but never sends a copy of the receipt or gives the number of the receipt. He lies and never provides documentation.to provae his assertions. I have already sent a complaint to the BBB and will be sending complaints to the MHIA and to the Attorney General. He is a person who will provide work but there has to be a good contract. I was so vulnerable and they played tricks on me. I now have had three paint contractors that have solid reputations. I am going to pay and use one because I now see Mr. Taylor never paying for anything. He has no conscience. I will have to get a lawyer I guess. I am so exhausted and depressed now.

Response from Taylor Made Custom Contracting Inc
We are shocked and confused at this member’s most recent report! Upon the project’s completion, just weeks ago, she posted a glowing straight A review. “They are all helpful and kind and enjoyable. They are the epitome of the great men of the day!! They are proud of their company and should be! Everything they did they accomplished in the same ultra-professional manner, from putting up doors repairing stairs, carpentry of many sorts, I could go on and on but I can now say with a happy smile my home, my home that I love so much is finally back for us and for the future.” We feel that there must have been some confusion between the member’s recollection of our company and her experience with her previous contractor. For a more accurate representation of our company, please read our 50 plus A-rated reviews, our 19 “Page of Happiness” nominations and our consecutive two year “Super Service” awards. We have been providing quality, trustworthy service since 1990 and we will continue to do so.

Kevin Taylor, the owner, arrived on time for every appointment, discussed the job thoroughly, and made helpful suggestions regarding fixture selections and counter materials. His estimate was fair and there were no surprise costs throughout the job. Kevin's workers were courteous, neat, and professional. Kevin contacted us regulary during the renovation to make sure that job was proceeding to our satisfaction. We were very happy with the entire process and are planning to use Taylor Made for our next bathroom renovation this fall.
Description of Work: Replaced counter, fixtures, and sinks in our master bathroom. Fixed the drywall damage around the shower. Fixed leaky shower head and replaced shower mixing valve, spray head, some associated piping, and shower door. Installed a new access panel for the shower plumbing. Installed new light fixture above shower.

The contractor started when promised and worked diligently until job was done. Cleaned up at end of each day.
Description of Work: Took out standard bathtub and installed step in whirlpool tub, and tiled walls around the new tub, did all plumbing associated with the new tub.
I got 4 estimates from A- listers from Angies list - I selected Taylor Made Custom Contracting because they believe in quality work and they were extremely creative and enthusiastic about making my visions come to reality. They listened to what I wanted and gave me excellent advice in designing for both form and function. No detail was too small for them to address and the cost and time estimates were realistic - comparable to other estimates and even less than my own (based on previous home renovations). Kevin and Craig and their team were a joy to work with: friendly, courteous and professional. This was an extensive project - they came to work early and were always very considerate of my neighbors in this condo building and myself . They cleaned up every afternoon before leaving. They used 3rd floor stairs often to avoid holding up the elevator for other residents and cleaned the stairs before leaving. They addressed every concern I have had promptly and resolved them all to my satisfaction. The kitchen is just what I wanted - it's beautiful and now I can sit at my counter, eat a meal on beautiful granite and watch the river roll by. The guest bath is finished and I'm using it while they work on the master bath - it is amazingly beautiful from the tile to the expert paint and granite. Picture perfect with excellent functionality. The master bath is progressing very well and I'm so excited about their design...I know it's going to be beautiful. Do: It's important to tell them exactly what you want and why you want it. That will help them suggest different options for getting what you want and staying within your budget as well as giving you the best design and construction. Also, be open to their creative ideas - they know the latest design and build concepts and are very experienced in remodeling kitchens and baths. Don't: be afraid to tell them if you have any concerns or questions; they are very responsive and address them promptly and effectively. This has been a very positive experience!
Description of Work: Kitchen: Removed Corian countertops then reconfigured existing counter cabinets so that the counter where you can eat faces the view of the river instead of the refrigerator and stove in the kitchen. Filled in the part of the existing counter cabinets which had been next to the dishwasher with a new drawer and cabinet door, filled in hard wood flooring under the new eating counter and completed all trim and woodwork. They expertly installed new backsplash with beautiful tile with decos, upgraded under cabinet lighting, replaced microwave oven and helped/supervised with the installation of granite countertops throughout. Replaced Corian counter in the passthrough window to the dining room with the same granite; repaired drywall and painted as needed. Guest Bath: Removed the plastic shower surround and metal frame and glass door. Installed tile, decos and chrome fixtures with hand held and recessed lighting in the shower including grab bars, granite covered seat, granite covered niche and glass panel and door. Replaced sink, vanity top and fixtures and supervised installation of granite. Installed picture frame mirror and new lighting, towel bars and robe hooks. Painted ceiling, two walls and all woodwork trim. Master Bath: In process: Designed and built wall between garden tub platform and shower to enlarge the shower by at least 1/3. Removed metal frame and glass surround and plastic floor for glass panel and door and tile. Built ledge, niche and seat in the shower. They are now in the process of running electrical wiring for 4 sconces along 3 walls, vanity lighting, upgrading exhaust fan, upgrading recessed lighting in the shower. Removed garden tub and preparing for installation of granite on all surfaces and new sinks, and all new fixtures, replacement of tub over the granite platform. Preparing walls for painting and preparing to install tiles and decos in the shower and around the tub platform.

Kevin and his crew did everything they said they would do in a professional, efficient, clean, and magnificent way!
Description of Work: Kevin Taylor is the man you want in your corner when dealing with a tough insurance adjuster and low ball claim figure. He and my husband went to bat together and they were able to almost triple the initial offer. Kevin and his crew did impeccable work. The areas were left clean and the work was beautifully done. Kevin had a keen eye to see what the damage was and advise us on what needed to get repaired. He kept all his promises and was patient with us as we have a small house and could not always move things to make room for them to do all the work at one time. He was okay doing it in piece meal. We have used other contractors in the past, without the same satisfaction, and would use Kevin and his crew in a NY minute! Not job is too small or too large for them.

The owner (Kevin) accurately diagnosed the problems with these windows that had broken seals and had leaked water extensively causing drywall damage. He recommended new construction windows rather than replacement windows but left the decison up to the homeowner. Kevin and Craig took extensive measurements of the existing windows to ensure that the new windows would fit exactly. The windows were delivered when promised and the work began on schedule. The window crew was professional and courteous while completing their work in 2 days with minimal disruption and damage to the outside flower beds (they did all their work from the outside which none of the other companies I talked with would do). Craig and his assistant did all the inside work in their usual fine manner to include cleaning up the work site at the end of each day. The new windows are low maintenance vinyl on the exterior (as opposed to the old windows which were wood and required painting) and you would have to look real closely on either the inside or outside to know that any work had been done which is a testament to the fine work Taylormade did. Craig even replaced the dead battery packs, with new ones I furnished,on the motorized shades for these windows. Of course there have been no signs of any leaks after a couple of very significant rainfalls after installation was completed. Overall another super job!
Description of Work: Replaced leaky, defective and poorly installed palladian windows (5) in an 8 yr old home with new construction vinyl windows. They also removed the siding in the vicinity of these windows and installed house wrap which the original builder did not use. They were able to remove the windows completely without removing the interior jamb extensions and molding thereby enabling the preservation of all existing window treatments.

We had the folks from Taylormade come in and take a look at our basement. Kevin seemed knowledgable, but largely disinterested in the project. He said something like, "I saw the budget was too low for the scope of work, but I decided to come take a look anyways." At nearly $30k, this is a large remodel for my wife and me, but I guess not for Kevin. A few days after the initial walkthrough, he called and said the whole project will cost $31k, a number with which I was comfortable. After asking him for more detail on how the $31k was going to be spent, even grouped in large line-items, he wouldn't describe the bid whatsoever. It was a black box $31k and Kevin was unwilling to give any further detail until we went under contract. When I told him that was highly irregular, he said that he didn't want to do the extra work to break it down unless we were going under contract. While I understand his need to balance the amount of work he puts in before the job is committed, Taylormade needs to provide more specificty pre-contract - I'm not going to commit $31k when I have no idea where the money is going. There were no selections, no flooring, no paint, no finishes and none of the trades had been in. I solicited bids from two other contractors, each of whom set up appointements for their trades to come in and each of whom provided me a detailed scope of work. Kevin and Taylormade may be good for other folks, but their lack of transparancy and arrogance really turned me off.
Description of Work: Basic walk through and estimate.

Taylor Made Custom Contracting was one of three contractors that I had contacted, based on reviews from this site, to remove and install a storm door and front entry door. The estimate provided by Keith was the highest of the three, however, he explained in depth how he could customize the work to properly allow the entry door that I wanted, to fit, whereas the other two contractors did not or straight out said that they couldn't do it. Fast forward to the installation date, Craig, one of Keith's workers, had picked up both doors and was ready to go. He kept me fully informed of the progress that was being made and the issues that he and his helper were running into. Speaking of issues, this job was estimated to take one day to complete, but took two. With that being said, the extra time required was not the fault of Taylor Made Custom Contracting. The sloppy original construction of the house (walls were not plumb, bricks on the doorstep did not extend far enough under the door's threshold) and heavy rain slowed this project. In further reference to the issues with the house, Craig took the time to develop solutions to the problem and cleared them with Kevin and I prior to doing them. After the installation was done, Craig and his helper cleaned up the mess that was made and disposed of the the old doors for me. The finished product looks and fits great (certainly better than the previous storm and entry door). I will recommend Taylor Made Custom Contracting to anyone who needs remodeling or other work done, and will be contacting them again when the time comes to redo my kitchen!
Description of Work: Remove and replace existing storm and front entry door
We have a large master bathroom with a large soaking tub that we never used in the 13 years that we lived in the house. We wanted to remove the tub and install a walk-in shower. The entire bathroom had to be gutted. They were very careful to keep the mess to a minimum At the end of each day the cleaned up the work area. All new plumbing and electrical work was roughed-in,Then the drywall, and ceramic tile was installed and ceramic tile shower with seat. They suggested many great features for the shower including how to keep the window in the shower area. All the ceramic tile work was first class. They helped us with the tile pattern. We also replaced the vanity with a Kraft Made vanity and toilet with a Kohler unit. The old shower area was turned into linen shelvimg, we also eliminated the existing linen closet. The bathroom exceeded our expectations. All the craftsmen we very professional and Kevin Taylor, the owner, co-ordinated the work flow beautifully. The project was completed in 23 days including painting our bedroom, which we added to the scope after the work had commenced. We are extremly happy with the work they did and we will definitley use them when we remodel our kitchen.
Description of Work: Major remodeling of our master bath including removal of our existing, small shower and large soaking tub, which we never used in 13 years. The new, 4' x 8' walk-in shower was installed where the soaking tube was.The old shower area was converted into linen shelving. The vanity and toilet were replaced, all new ceramic tile was installed and all new lighting installed.
The contractor came and looked any my small project of installing a full size washer and dryer in a large closet. They removed the washer dryer combo and demo the dry wall for the plumber to move the water and the electrician to install a new 110 outlet and circuit breaker. They then replaced the dry wall, painted the closet and a joining hallway (they did not have to this at all), put in a vent, and installed the washer dryer all before X-mass. Great job done by all.
Description of Work: The company was great and went above and beyond. I had a full size washer and dryer installed in a very small space. The contractor was very proactive in solving any issues. Fix drywall breech by the electrician which he did not have to do. The crew not only installed the drywall for the washer dryer but painted the complete hallway. The crew was polite and cleaned up after the job. I would use them again for small and big remodel projects.

I don't remember how much they quoted but the quote was high. Everything was pretty well in line. I would possibly take a quote from them in the future if they had a more reasonable quote.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Taylor Made Custom Contracting in January for a bathroom remodel.
Taylor Made repaired significant damage to my home that was caused when a tree fell on my house during Hurricane Irene. Throughout the long drawn out process of dealing with insurance company Kevin was a saint and the one bright spot in the entire ordeal. He patiently dealt with the insurance adjusters until the entire process was completed and all needed repairs were approved. The various workers that came to the house were the nicest group of guys and always polite and professional! My house is finally back together and looks great. I would highly recommend Taylor Made Contracting.

Everything worked out perfectly. The design and purchasing went smoothly. The carpenters put up a thick plastic curtain, with a floor-to-ceiling zipper, that sealed off our bedroom from the demotion dust. It wasn't a quick job - with carpenters, an electrician, a plumber, and a tile person coordinating their work - but it was done carefully and professionally. The bathroom looks terrific, and we are 100% happy with the result.
Description of Work: We had the small master bathroom in our 1930s house gutted and completely redone. In addition to new walls and floor, new fixtures, new tile, and a pocket-door to replace the previous conventional door, we doubled the size of the shower stall by taking the space that had been a small bedroom closet. We also put in a new ventilation fan where there hadn't previously been one, running a duct through the attic to the outside. (NOTE: We previously had our hall bathroom renovated by Taylor Made, and I wrote a separate review on that job.)

We are in the process of meeting with them but have not decided who will do our project yet. I thought their quote was pretty good although they were a little pushy. I think they misinterpreted, maybe, what we wanted but we felt like they were pushing us a little bit. We decided to delay the entire process until after the holidays so we could devote our whole attention to it. I will call them back in the future.
Description of Work: I am considering Taylor Made Custom Contracting to redo my kitchen.
Craig and crew did an outstanding job including working 11 hours on a windy and cold day to complete the job. The leaks appear to have all been successfully fixed. Craig is a true professional, very thorough and conscientious, and great to work with. Kevin is very professional and a pleasure to deal with. I continue to be highly pleased with their work and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I have had long time leakage issues in my great room Palladian windows, dining room window, basement window and walkout basement door. TaylorMade removed the siding from the basement doors to the eaves and installed new seals around the windows and the doors, installed flashing where the framing meets the slab to correct a builder defect and installed new Tyvek house wrap and replaced the siding. They also removed the walkout basement doors and installed an aluminum drain assembly beneath the doors to channel leaking water outside. They also temporarily repaired the leaking palladian windows that were defectively designed and constructed to stop major water infiltration until the windows can be replaced.

Description of Work: Our house was built in 1941 and we had very old front and back doors. We had both replaced, including screen doors.
Our basement door had been kicked-in which damaged part of the door jam. After getting quotes from a couple of contractors we decided to go with Taylor Made. The guys repaired the door jam, installed, painted, and weather proofed a new exterior door. They also replaced the hardware on the storm door, that we hadn't even talked about doing (...bonus). We also had an old wooden window replaced. The window had a pane removed and was acting as the exit for our dryer vent. The guys installed a smaller window, closed off the unused portion of the opening, and re-routed the vent. After the job was finished we had a few issues and Taylor Made worked with us to make sure that we were satisfied with the work that was done. It took a few tries but they didn't give up and the job was completed. They were very accessible and very willing to come back out each time I asked them to. Top notch customer service and pride in their work.
