I wasn't totally happy, but he worked really hard to make us happy. He came back, and made multiple repairs. I feel he is skilled, and tried to make you really happy. He claimed to be an expert in historic repair, and when you in historic masonry, its tricky to get a match, and we ended up finding the bricks for him, which has salvage bricks, which he didn't know about. He probably didn't want to take the time to clean the old bricks, which they had paint on it. Which we actually cleaned the paint off. He is excellent mason, but not artistic, arteasonal quality. He is not the top historic preservationist. If he is, there is place much higher, like the prices. He did work really hard. It's really expensive. I would like to find it cheaper.

Very nicely done, the quality of work was excellent. The replacement mortar was a very good match to the original, and they replaced 13 bricks. They also pressure washed the chimney and removed an old TV antenna from the chimney, much appreciated.

We began looking in the spring to have our brick front steps replaced. They were falling apart and the step height was not up to code. It was difficult to find a contractor who really specialized in brickwork. We interviewed several general contractors who did some brickwork but we didn’t feel that any of them was that invested in making the steps look good. One thought the steps could just be patched up and another was not that concerned about the (out of code) step heights. We got estimates in the $5000 range, but we didn’t feel that we would be happy with the final product from any of these contractors. We contracted with Eric who gave us a cap on the cost of the project ($8000) and told us if he came in under budget he would replace some cracked bricks around our home. As it turned out, the demo of the old stairs turned out to be more labor intensive than he thought, adding on an extra two days to the project. But true to his word he did not charge us any more than his original estimate. His crew was hard-working, and courteous and Eric was available to talk about how the project was going and gave us updates. In the end his crew made a set of stairs that looked like it always belonged there and we are very happy with the results. Eric obviously loves his craft and is in demand. We got on his list in May and the project got under way in November, so you really do have to plan ahead. But we feel the wait was well worth it as we now have an entrance to our home that we are proud of.

The initial estimate Eric gave us was $25,000, which was supposed to be a kind of hard-cap on the cost of the project. We expected it would actually be a bit less and he would deduct from that amount based on the time and materials needed to complete the work. As it happened, we needed much MORE work than anticipated and the final costs were something in the neighborhood of $27,000. One of the highlights of working with Eric was that he stuck with his promise that he would not charge us a nickel more than his estimate which I have never seen before from a contractor of any kind. That kind of honesty and dedication to good service is truly exceptional. Additionally, one small window was cracked by falling debris during the work. Eric was quick to find someone who was able to make the repair and ensure that it was covered financially. Overall, our experience with Eric was outstanding. The finished work looks beautiful and we have received compliments from everyone who has seen it. Eric takes a tremendous amount of pride in his work and it shows. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

We met with Eric, in the Spring of 2016. He was very polite and professional. He was also very upfront that he couldn't take on our project for a few months due to his workload. This was fine with us, as we were not in a huge hurry for the work to be completed. As Eric was highly rated on AL, we did not mind waiting. Eric did a full evaluation of our property, the work needed and provided us with an estimate. We felt that Eric gave us a fair price for the amount of work that needed to be done. Eric and his crew started on the date he promised. His crew was great: hard-working, focused, skilled workmen, who were very polite and kept us updated on the work being done. Eric was present throughout the complete project, inspecting the work, explaining how the project was going, and answering all of our questions. We were very satisfied when the initial project was completed. We then requested that Eric inspect the cracked pad in front of the garage and provide an estimate. Again, the price was fair and we gave Eric the go-ahead to do the additional work. This job also came in on time and again, we were very happy with the results. A few days after this job was done, we had a heavy rainfall and we noticed some standing water had collected in the front corner of the pad, where three different ground levels converged (front garden, front walk and asphalt driveway). Eric came out asap and assessed the best possible way to alleviate the possibility of standing water. He solved the problem by leveling down a small corner of the end of the concrete walk where the pad and walk met, He then creating mini-channels between the seams of the pad, concrete walk and the asphalt driveway leading to the pad. This allowed any standing water to drain off effectively into the lawn (with no pooling on the lawn). Eric himself was out there on a super-hot day for a few hours, using a power grinder, then running a hose on several times, to make sure that all the water ran off to our satisfaction. The only small downside was there was a corner of the last section of the concrete walk that had to be ground down, which maybe took away from the otherwise uniform look of the front walkway, but it really isn't that noticeable. I believe Eric absolutely did the best he could based on unforeseen circumstances with the different ground levels in that particular area. I would definitely use Eric again and highly recommend him. He is a true masonry craftsman and has trained his staff extremely well.
Description of Work: We needed our front concrete walkway redone, as it was cracking. We also needed a concrete pad in the rear of the home replaced because it had begun to sink down below the foundation. We also needed the brickwork repair of our front steps, chimney and a circular flower bed border. After Eric and his crew completed this work, we added another project, replacing a cracked concrete pad directly in front of our two-car garage.

It went well. Before he came on board we had hired another mason to do the job; that mason was not prepared for the complexity of the job and he left after seeing the entire scope of the job. Eric came in, took us through the process, and stayed to see it through. We hired Stinebaugh Masonry while we scrambled to address this dangerous situation. He and his crew squeezed us in by working Saturdays and Monday-Friday from 4pm to dark after working already-scheduled projects. When the wall was carefully being taken down there were many moments of high stress for us (afraid that the stones or perhaps the entire wall would fall). Throughout it all (and the process took almost two months of afternoons/evening work) Eric kept us apprised of what he was doing, when his crew would arrive and what to look out for. In the end the façade was removed, the structural rubble wall built, and the marble replaced and anchored so that it will last another 137 years. Eric and his crew are very professional. He honored his word; he and his crew were punctual, polite, and respectful of the residents and tenants living there. Our tenants appreciated his communication and protection of their living areas, while scaffold surrounded the building exterior. The team cleaned up the site and ensured all were safe: passing pedestrians, parked cars, and incoming and outgoing tenants. Dare I say that we spent far more on this project than we wanted to spend. This wasn't Stinebaugh Masonry's fault, but the nature of the complex job. Eric was generous with his time. Eric kept track of every hour his crew worked, and the hourly wage for his crew (even paying overtime [since they were working other jobs]) was in line with another bid we received. This is the second time we'd hired Stinebaugh Masonry. We would enthusiastically recommend Stinebaugh Masonry and their work without reservation. The hourly rate he quotes will be the rate you receive. He is also very good at giving ballpark prices that are right on the money. He is experienced, and his work is very good, and he is frequently booked. Give him a call, and get on his schedule for your masonry needs!
Description of Work: We presented Eric Stinebaugh with a real challenge; our 3rd floor window lintel was 6" out of plumb and in danger of falling to the street. Stinebaugh Masonry had to reinforce the lintel and then begin to assess the damage to come up with a work plan. In the end, the 4th Floor and 3rd Floor façade marble had to be removed and placed to the side; tons of loose rubble wall (the cause of the problem) had to be excavated and dumped; a new rubble wall was then built, and the marble façade replaced, with stainless steel anchors connecting the heavy stone with the new rubble wall. After the wall was rebuilt, Eric's crew repointed the entire façade and then cleaned it so that it was shimmering white. (Many people have given compliments, too.)

Eric and his crew did a wonderful job. The completed projects looked beautiful and the work was above and beyond what we had hoped for. One of the patios needed more work than originally was estimated. Eric stuck with his original estimate even though the cost ended up being more than expected. After the job was complete I noticed that the crew had fixed something for me that I had mentioned needed to be fixed next time I had work done....I really appreciated that! The team was neat and tidy and always on time. It was a real pleasure to have this contractor do the work at our home. We will definitely be using Stinebaugh Masonry again for other masonry projects that we need done!
Description of Work: We had various masonry projects around the exterior of the home. Two patios needed to be repointed, and a chimney needed work. Other cracks in the mortar were fixed as well.

The work began as scheduled, Eric was always available to answer any questions , his workers arrived on time, weather permitting and performed excellent work. All areas were completed according to schedule and in addition at completion , the results were beautiful. ** In addition , the work was performed under budget and he replaced the top stones that were broken on my driveway wall . His workers replaced and repaired missing and loose parts of the wall. The old driveway wall was found to be hollow as repairs were done and they filled hollow sections with concrete. In addition the opposite driveway wall had loose joints and a broken stone - all were addressed and repaired . All of this was done under the original budget and looks amazing!
Description of Work: Removed old existing and replaced with new stone masonry the following: stone porch, steps to porch, walkway, steps to walkway . Stones that were not broken were reused, the entire porch ,porch steps, walkway and steps were reconstructed with finger width masonry joints. An additional step leading up to the walkway was added as suggested by Eric, the owner. This proved to be an excellent choice . The walkway was excavated and replaced with underlying structural reinforcement,( the old walkway was sunk and joints and stones were missing,)

We couldn't have been happier with the job Eric's team did. They were on time and got things done well and quick;y. The repairs were done so skillfully that you could not tell what had been fixed. Eric prides himself on his skill as a brick mason, and he did not overestimate the quality of his work. It was also very impressive that the actual cost of the work was less than the estimate. Would use them again in a heartbeat.

Throughout the project, Eric?s team performed in a professional and personable manner. Each morning, they arrived like clockwork at the appointed time and worked diligently throughout each day of the two-week project. All the work was done as Eric had promised at the outset and was completed on time and slightly under the quoted cost. We look forward to Eric?s return later in the year to work on a second project for us and highly recommend him to anyone in need of brick or stone work.

Eric and his team were great. He came out and gave us an estimate and an idea of when the job could be done. The final cost was less than quoted as they were able to use some of the existing bricks. He even corrected a problem with our chimney that he noticed. We had known about it and just hadn't had it fixed.

commend him highlySorry I didn't get this evaluation in a timely fashion but I did want to report it even if late. I had discovered leakage of water around the chimneys into the family room. Eric and his crew did a great job repairing my chimneys. One was a complicated design but he was able to have his men repair it to the original state. The house is 30 years old and the bricks had come loose so that pieces had fallen off and risked crumbling. Eric told me he had a back injury and doesn't work on the chimneys directly, but his helpers are quite competent. The work was completed exceptionally well and in a timely fashion. Eric remarked that his estimate had been lower than the actual cost, but he said he would not charge me more as he said it was his error not mine when he made the estimate and he was a man of his word. I am truly grateful and will definitely use him should the need arise.

We could not have asked for a better result for our brickwork. Eric and his crew were great to work with. They listened to our concerns and addressed them all. Eric worked hard to make our new brickwork fit right into the old and he absolutely succeeded! He and his crew were always on time, took care to secure the work area at the end of each day and did a great job of clean-up afterwards. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them at all!

Eric and his team were excellent. I can't recommend them enough. He was extremely accommodating, punctual and made sure I was happy with the work at each stage, showing me the progress. Eric's a great guy, clearly passionate about the work he does. The work is very high quality, the wall his team removed and rebuilt will outlast the house itself I'm sure. His team was amazing, very well organized, very considerate, and did a top notch job cleaning up the area after the work was completed. This isn't your average masonry company with subcontractors and temporary labor. Everyone on his team is an expert and are able to do the work right, they can be trusted to delivery a quality job. I highly recommend Stinebaugh. I plan to use him again for anything related to masonry.
Description of Work: Replaced a very long section of a retaining wall which was deteriorating and in danger of compromising a portion of the driveway. Installed a cement wall behind the stone facing, refaced and repointed the stone work to an exact match of the house. Replaced a large section of stone on top of the retaining wall. Created a stacked stone wall with stone no longer needed which was originally part of the retaining wall. His team also replaced a portion of a set of stone steps to stabilize. Masonry is very difficult work to master, which is why I went with this company. As Eric will explain, it's both an art form and a technical skill that many companies advertise but most don't do well. All of the work his company completed is beautiful. Eric and his team, Salvador, Sergio, and Rubin, are all very skilled and experienced. They are extremely efficient, fast and talented. They removed all debris and were careful not to damage any of our wood floors on the way to and from the basement. I would definitely hire them again.

Eric and his crew were great. He revised the contract as needed until it was clear and understandable before we signed it. He was on site daily and spoke with us daily with updates, timing of the project, addressed questions and concerns as they arose. He returned calls very quickly -- within hours or at least same day. His crew cleaned up daily to reduce dust and mud on our driveway. The brickwork is beautiful and the new bricks match perfectly with existing brick. He was trustworthy and honest. We have had a few fires in one of our fireplaces that had the most work done and it lit easily and drafted very well. We would strongly recommend him for brick and chimney work.

Eric and his team did an excellent job with my home repairs. We required extensive stone and cement work on my home. Initally contracted for chimney repair and garage roof replacement which include side porch demoliation and reconstruction. His crew worked diligently and completed this 2 weeks ahead of schedule. At this point , we added another project of new stone and cement for walkway to my home and demolish 2 sets of stairs and rebuild. They worked everyday that weather permitted and showed up on time every day. Eric explained all of the work and the materials being used. My family and I enjoyed working with him and were so thrilled with the results!! Definitely recommend this company.

First of all, Mr. Stinebaugh is a true professional. Other than major specialty work such as significant masonry work, I do all work myself for two reasons: 1). I am very detailed and most contractors do not focus on the details nor do better work than I do. They focus on getting in and get out quickly at the expense of quality.. 2). I do not trust the craftsmanship, skill, knowledge or professionalism of contractors. Not being a stone mason, I had no choice but to hire a contractor. Thanks to the reviews on this site, I found Stinebaugh Masonry. Eric Stinebaugh is extremely professional and skilled and his crew displayed the same professionalism the entire month they were at my job. Mr. Stinebaugh came out immediately on my call to provide an estimate and discuss my issue. He did not rush, spent a significant amount of time with me discussing the problem, the cause and the detail how he would perform the work. He was not the quickest at providing the quote, but told me up front that would be the case because he stays out in the field on every job site and does not get to the office stuff very timely. This was no problem at all. Many other reviews before me described him as OCD in providing the most meticulous service and product. Being similar in that mindset, this was important to my decision. I brought in 4 companies for quotes. He was the only one that wasn't the BS car salesman, he was the only one that didn't tell me I had to remove about $10k of landscaping to set up the scaffolding and perform the work, he was the only one that could explain to me in detail what caused the problem...and he provided the cheapest quote as well. The other three contractors were also well reviewed on Angie's list but after meeting them, I had zero confidence in their ability to do the work to my satisfaction and their quotes ranged from extremely high to absurd. I was selecting Stinebaugh Masonry regardless of his price but his price was good as well. Mr. Stinebaugh started my job ahead of schedule and was onsite every day to check the progress and quality of the team. He was in regular contact with me through the entire process and performed several tasks within the original price that were not part of the quote. He wrapped the house at my request and hand cut 10 brick jack arches over 9 windows and front door. This set his team back several days to perform the complicated task of hand cutting well over 100 bricks, each one at a unique angle to create each arch. He definitely takes pride in his work and wants each job he does to show off his skill and attention to detail. He went out of his way to go above and beyond on my job and did not charge me one penny over the quote for the additional services performed. The last thing I can say is you should not call anyone else for your masonry needs. That is coming from an very experienced DIY person that thought it was impossible to find contractor to meet or exceed my expectations. I have some additional custom masonry needs coming up next year and I'll be calling him soon to get on his schedule.

I was looking for someone that was trustworthy and knew what they were doing with concrete. After contacting Eric Stinebaugh Masonry LLC I realized that I found the right person. From the initial conversation with Eric and him coming out to provide an estimate it was obvious that I was dealing with a professional and someone that took pride in their trade. Eric informed me that he was booked up for close to a year and that my job was extremely small for him. He quoted me a price for his crew to do a days work, but understood if I did not contact him. As I wanted the work completed properly I was willing to pay the price because of the work ethic that Eric displayed. I was also willing to wait the year to be worry free after the work was completed. Eric keep in contact with me and as he only was able to send one worker for my job, he provided me his worker for two days. Everything and them some was completed by his worker. It was obvious that the worker Eric provided had the same professional work ethic. He worked steady throughout each day and did a beautiful job. Eric stopped by to check on things to see if I was happy with the work and advised me to contact him if any issued arose after the completion of the work. It was a pleasure doing business with Eric and I would not hesitate to use him in the future, or recommend him to others. Just remember that you get what you pay for and if you want quality work and a worry free experience Eric Stinebaugh Masonry LLC is the place to call. I am very pleased with their work and I appreciate a mason of his caliber to do such a small job for me.

Everything was amazing! Communication was direct and clear. Eric and his workers were polite and cleaned everything each day and we knew exactly what to expect. We had a leak in our ceiling for 2 years and finally (YAY) it was fixed after Eric rebuilt the chimney. I would recommend Eric and his company to anyone looking for a mason for any job. We are going to use him in the future to re-point the front of our house. Not only are Eric and his workers nice to work with, but the work is top-notch.
Description of Work: Rebuilt the chimney. Re-pointed basement wall. Removed in-wall AC unit and bricked up wall.
